"Happy birthday, Levi," Amy whispered, turning on the light next to his bed. Glancing across the room, she saw the younger boy was awake, "And good morning, Theo. Wanna help wake up your brother?"
The two-year-old bound across the room to his brother's bed. "Lev, wake up. Happy birfday!"
"Get off me," he groaned, pushing Theo away from him.
"Come on, Theo. Let's give Levi some time to wake up. Do you want to help me make him a special birthday breakfast?" Amy lifted the two-year-old from the bed and set him on the floor next to her. Levi didn't take long to perk up and join his brother and aunt in the kitchen. Placing a plate of chocolate chip pancakes in front of the first grader, Amy again repeated, "Happy birthday, Levi. Are you excited about your party this afternoon?"
He excitedly nodded, shoving another bite of pancake into his mouth. "Is the bounce house here yet? Can I play on it before my friends get here?"
"Uncle Sheldon is talking to the delivery man right now. You and Theo can play on it for a little while, but you have to get dressed first. You can't go outside in your pajamas." Levi took another bite of his breakfast before sliding from the chair and running upstairs with Theo close behind. Amy shook her head to herself, mumbling, "I meant after you finished eating."
Sheldon found Amy amidst the chaos that had taken over their house later that afternoon. "I am so glad Koothrappali volunteered to organize all of this. Inviting Levi's entire class didn't sound that bad when we were planning this, but this is just madness. No more big parties."
"You say that now, but you'll change your mind by next year. At least we have a few years before we need to start having big parties for Theo."
Dropping into one of the chairs near the snack table, Sheldon muttered, "When I thought about birthday parties for our kids, I always thought we'd get to ease into it. Small parties with our friends before having our house overrun with a bunch of kids."
"Well," Amy stepped behind him and placed her hands on his shoulders, "Most people do, but most people don't start with a six, well seven-year-old. At least we're able to ease into this with Theo."
"I guess you're right." He looked up at his wife, still standing behind him. "Thank you for doing this."
Amy leaned over his shoulder and placed a kiss on his cheek, "I think it's almost time for cake and presents. I'll see if Raj needs help with anything."
After Levi's classmates left, Sheldon and Amy's friends made an appearance for a much smaller, more subdued birthday celebration for the newly seven-year-old. The gang didn't stay for long, sensing both boys were about to crash from all of the sugar they'd consumed throughout the day. "Okay, let's get pajamas on and pick a book to read," Amy announced when the last of their friends left.
Levi and Theo began to move towards the stairs to go to their room, but Amy was stopped, "Can Uncle Sheldon read tonight?" Levi questioned.
"Sure," she agreed. "I'll let him know. You can get your pajamas on while you wait for him. Don't forget to brush your teeth." Amy watched her nephews scurry up the stairs before turning to find her husband. "You've been requested for bedtime tonight. I told them to get into their pajamas and brush their teeth."
Groaning, Sheldon commented, "That means there's going to be toothpaste all over the counter. I better go before they make too much of a mess."
Amy grabbed his hand as he passed her, "Hey, I know today was a lot. At least we don't have to do something like this again until next year. Get the boys settled, then how about we go to bed early? I think we could both use it tonight."
"Okay," he smiled while squeezing her hand. "You lock up and I'll take care of the boys. Hopefully, they pick a short book."
"I cleaned Theo's toothpaste off the sink," Levi announced as Sheldon passed the bathroom at the top of the stairs, spitting a mouthful of toothpaste across the bathroom mirror. The man didn't comment, waiting for the seven-year-old to finish and make his way to his bedroom. "Theo wants you to read the book Halley and Michael got me for my birthday."
Sheldon accepted the book, settling on Theo's bed, motioning for Levi to join him to see the pictures as he read. The book was quickly finished, and Sheldon arranged the blankets around Theo as Levi climbed into his own bed. He made his way to the other side of the room and as he was tucking in Levi, the boy sleepily shared, "Penny said mom's birthday is next week. Is she having a party?"
"Your mom's birthday is in February, the same as mine. I can talk to Aunt Amy and find out if she'd be okay with us going to Texas for it again. At least you'll be somewhat close to her then?" He suggested, running his hand over his nephew's shoulder.
"No," Levi sighed. "Penny said it's next week, the same day as Halley's."
Suddenly, it clicked for Sheldon that Levi was referring to Amy. "Oh, we've never had a big party for Aunt Amy. We usually have a nice dinner and a quiet night at home, but we do see everyone for Halley's birthday."
Levi shifted down under the blankets, "Can Theo and me pick a present for Aunt Amy?"
"I suppose that would be alright. How about we go tomorrow afternoon? I'll ask Leonard if he can drive us. Think about what you'd like to get her."
"Why can't you drive us?"
Sheldon reached over, clicked off the light next to the bed, stood from where he'd been sitting, and shook his head, "I don't drive, but that's a story for another day."
I've got 3 chapters left to write for this story. Don't worry, I've got several already completed and waiting to be posted. In total, it will be around 40 chapters. I was thinking of taking a break from writing after I finish this story, but I've had an idea stuck in my head for the past week that I feel won't go away without being written. We'll see how I feel once this story is finished. Thanks again for continuing to read.
