Robb rode into Riverrun with Ned and Ser Barristan by his side. Greywind, Starlight, Athena, Artemis, and Balerion followed quickly. Storm and Nymeria looped in quickly. They were followed by Achilles who closest to one of three carriages. Arya rode into the courtyard. Selaera, Dorgon, Rhaenys, Rhaegal, Visenya, and Viserion flew overhead. Ser Brynden "The Blackfish" Tully smiled as he looked up at dragons flying overhead. He smiled over to his great-nephew, Robb as he approached the carriage. He opened the carriage door holding his hand out for Rae to disembark. In her arms was Torrhen looking every bit the miniature vision of his father but with amethyst eyes. Torrhen little feet rest on the swell of Rae's belly. Valaena descended second carrying Lyanna and Lilliyan. Rae was dressed in a mint-colored traveling gown with a scoop neckline with silver direwolf necklace. It had an empire waistline with a dragon meets a direwolf silver belt under her growing breast. It flowed to the ground. Daeny along with Greyworm and Missandei rode into the courtyard. Brynden smiled when he noticed the swell of Rae's belly. It meant his great-nephew was successful at cementing his line again with the luck of the gods, this one would be another boy. He moved forward bowing before Rae and Robb. He kissed the top of Rae's hand.
"Riverrun is yours, Your Grace," Brynden stated.
"Thank you, Ser Brynden," Rae addressed.
"Is this your sister, Princess Daenerys," Brynden asked indicating Valaena.
Rae shook her head no. She looked over to Daeny. She had a sour look on her face. Rae motion for Daeny to come forward. Daeny dismounted her horse walking over to them with Greyworm right behind her. She held her head high with a proud look on her face.
"This my newest maid Lady Valaena Velaryon also known as Val. This is my sister Princess Daenerys. Daeny this is Ser Brynden Tully also know as the blackfish," Rae introduced Daeny.
"Princess Daeny forgive me," Ser Bryden said.
"Think nothing of it," Daeny said all the while burning with rage at Valaena and her sister. She gave Ser Bryden a smile. He moved forward kissing the top of her hand. Rae looked at Daeny she could see the fire beyond her sister's eyes. As much as she hated to play the game against her sister. She knew in her head she would have to. Rae felt a strong kick as she worried about her sister's fate. Rae rubbed the spot where her baby kick. She would do anything to protect her own family even if that meant fighting her family. "Riverrun is glorious, thank you for having us," Daeny said.
The Blackfish lead them all inside. Rae stood rooted in her spot for a moment thinking of what she would have to do. Robb came over to her his hand going to the swell of her belly.
"Are you alright, sweetheart? Is our pup alright," Robb asked?
"Yes, just lost in my head is all," Rae said placing her hand over his.
Daenessa stood looking out the blackwater bay. She stood on the beach looking out on the brewing storm. The weather had already become colder than she ever felt. She was dressed in a tight golden color Essos styled gown. The red keep and city were behind her. This was everything her family wanted. It was all within her reach. It was what her family thought was rightfully theirs. At the start, Tyrion was a means to end. The only problem was she grew to care for and love him. He saw more than a whore. He valued her opinion. They had sent an hour at night since the royal family left talking. He seemed to take what she said into consideration. She was not stupid or blind she knew Lord Varys and his little birds were watching her. She picked up the dragon pendant that hung around her neck. She snapped it off her neck. She looked skyward tears welling up in her eyes. With this single action, she would be turning her back on her family's teachings. She walked closer to crashing waves. Throwing the pendant in the waves to wash away. The bottom of the gown was sobbing wet as the rain started to pour.
That was where Tyrion found her hours later still standing on the beach in the pouring rain. Her silvery hair stuck to face and was drenched. Her already tight gown stuck to her like a second skin.
"Nessa, you will catch your death out here," Tyrion yelled over the storm.
"Who would mourn me," Daenessa said forlornly.
"I would, Nessa what has put in this mood," Tyrion asked nodding to one of the red cloaks to cover with his cloak. Knowing his own would do very little to keep her warm.
"I don't belong here," Nessa said.
"You do, you do," Tyrion told her taking her cold hand.
"My little lion, I am watched like a traitor. You worry for me so bit I fear what I have to tell you will change everything," Nessa said.
"Nothing you could tell me would ever change how I feel about you. I love you," Tyrion told her.
"I'm a Blackfyre. Originally, I came to take back was ours. But after meeting you and spending time with you can do it. Lord Varys I'm sure knows it and if he knows it Queen Raenera likely knows it. They are waiting for me to screw up. And I don't blame them. If I was in her shoes I would watch me too," Nessa told him.
"Good, now that you have told me we can plan for the future. And get you out of these wet clothes and into the keep," Tyrion urged her toward the keep.
"You not going to throw me I a black cell," Nessa questioned.
"For what," Tyrion asked. They regarded each other for a time.
"For trying to take the crown," Nessa said.
"But you didn't. You have not tried. You have done nothing wrong other being born with Targaryen Blood in you. They could no sooner arrest me being a dwarf," Tyrion told her.
Daenessa laughed at Tyrion's bad joke. She leaned to kiss him with a smile on her face. She just hoped that Queen Raenera would be just as forgiving.
Raenera was getting ready for the feast that would be held tonight in Riverrun. She was dress in a wine red color gown with a high neckline. There was choker like a necklace with direwolves holding the neckline up. There was a golden dragons' belt that was right under her breast. The fabric flowed over her ever-growing baby bump. She looked over the letter with her seal on it. She was just praying that she would not have to use what she was putting in to place now. But if it meant protecting her growing family she would. A knock sounded at the door. Howar Bracken opened the door.
"Ser Davos, your grace," Ser Howar said.
"Send him in and close the door," Rae ordered.
Ser Davos came into the chamber. Rae sat down taking a drink of her wine. She gave him a look as the door closed. Ser Davos came over to her bowing before.
"You wanted to see me, My Queen," Ser Davos said.
"I need you to do something for me," Rae told him.
"What is my queen," Ser Davos questioned.
"I need you to sail to Essos. Find the leader of the golden company and give him this," Rae said handing him the letter with her seal on it.
"Your buying sellswords, your grace," Ser Davos questioned.
"It brings me no joy in doing this. I don't want to do this, but I have no choice. I cannot ask Robb or the rest of you, lords, to fight this war for me," Rae said.
"What war? I know that you believer in great others and war for the dawn. But I'm feeling that is not the war you are talking about," Ser Davos asked.
Rae felt a strong kick. She lovingly smiled rubbing her belly were her child kicked. She moved over to the fireplace were the three fire-dragon egg rest by Starlight who was lounging by the fireplace.
"Something has changed in my sister," Rae admitted. She looked over to Ser Davos with a sad harden look on her face. Ser Davos moved closer to her, the letter still in his hand. "I have played this game for a long time ser Davos and have learned from the best. And as much as I don't want to do this. I need to think about my family," Rae said cradling her baby bump.
"Your Grace," Ser Davos questioned.
"I know what she will likely do. She has the Unsullied and she will send for the Second Sons and will likely try to buy the Golden Company knowing I have all of Westeros at my back. I need them to agree but all the while serving in reality me. I pray to old and new gods, and whatever gods that can hear me that I don't have to send the second letter that will destroy my sister from within," Rae said with tears in her eyes.
Ser Davos looked in Rae's eyes. There were so many emotions that filled her amethyst eyes. There was fear, sadness, and just a hint of hope. He nodded his head this was hard for her he could tell that much. But she was thinking like a mother would, protecting her unborn and children. No matter the cost.
"It will be done Your Grace," Ser Davos said as he bowed and left the room.
Rae looked to Starlight. She looked up at her mistress. Rae sank down on the chair by the fireplace. Starlight came over rest her head on Rae's lap. Rae hand's sank into Starlight's silky fur.
"Am I doing the right thing?" Rae questioned.
The feast was in full swing. Rae loving looked at Robb. He leaned down kissing her. That caused cheers from the crowd. His hand went to the swell of her belly.
"What do you think if it is a boy you want to name him?" Rae asked.
"Eddard," Robb said.
"What about Jaehaerys," Rae questioned.
"A Targaryen name?" Robb questioned.
"Your father suggested a Targaryen name. As it stands now my sister cannot have children and who knows if Jon ever will have children. I don't want my family names lost for all time. Jaehaerys was the name that your aunt Lyanna named Jon. And he was just and kind king. I don't want to name him after my father or conquers of Westeros. In a way, I want to name him after Jon. Besides, your sister will like to name her son Eddard," Rae stated.
"Name him after Jon I like that," Robb said rest his hand on the bump.
He felt a strong kick. That caused him to smile. He raised his goblet. The music stopped. All eyes fell on Rae and Robb. Catelyn and Ned were talking to the Blackfish.
"My queen and I wanted to thank you all for your warm welcome. The Riverlands has always been the heart of Westeros. We plan to keep it that way. Which is why I like to announce the name if the baby in my lovely queen belly is a boy. He will be named Jaehaerys." Robb announced.
"To Jaehaerys," Ned called out smiling over to Rae.
"To Jaehaerys" the cheer echoed.
A cheer went up and the music, dancing, and well-wishing continued. Arya was flirting with Gendry. Rae slowly ate cured meats and cheeses that were presented for her. Daeny on the sidelines. She had a fake smile on her face as Lady Val carried Rae up more meats. Ser Jorah came to Daeny's side. She looked less than pleased at how well her sister seemed to be loved throughout the kingdoms. The lesser Lords of Riverlands were buying for her and Robb's attention as she ate cured meats that she had been craving for most of her pregnancy. Many joked that it was a boy. Now they were naming their child a Targaryen name.
"You are on my side right Ser Jorah," Daeny asked.
"Khalessi there are no sides, Queen Raenera is not your enemy," Ser Jorah said.
"What makes her so special," Daeny went on.
"It could be the Umber blood in her," Jorah commented.
"What?" Daeny asked.
"There is a story, many years ago. Before, your family came to Westeros. That house Umber are descendants of giants or half-giants. No one knows if the story is true. But if they were, it would explain what makes her different from you," Ser Jorah said.
I hope that you like the chapter. What do you think of Rae starting to play the game with her sister before anything has happened yet?
