I ran off to meet the other guys. I got there 3 mins before 3 and most of the guys were there. Richard was handing out wetsuits. I got in line and grabbed a wetsuit that was similar to the one I had before and handed my tablet to a group of workers that were assigning gear to people.
Richard went over what we all were going to be doing. It should be easy to just add 5 new areas of a wing. There were 6 men including me and Richard. We all got air tanks and started to drop into the water adding on area after area.
Having the machines lift it then the men pushing it into place and welding it into place. Everything went smoothly until the last area was being moved on. One of the older men welded the seal wrong, making me get inside of the tube to seal it properly. Richard sent the rest of the men in, making us two the only ones on the comms and in the water.
I got inside and started to reseal the tube and the tube started to shake. "Richard, what is going on out there?" I asked through the comms, stopping the welding trying to keep my balance. After a few minutes the shaking got worse with time.
I heard Richard's voice come through. "Son…. " I could hear the worry in his voice. "Just tell me what is happening" I said, trying to keep my voice steady and calm. "The last tube seems to be stuck in a current that started when a rock glacier fell down near us leaving us open to the harsh currents. We are trying to get you out of there but the entire base is being pulled with the current and if we don't get it disconnected soon the entire base will flood and sink."
Without hesitation I started to cut through the welding I just did before. "What are you doing?! If you keep cutting it away you won't be able to survive that current" I cut through all of the welding I did and start working on the other side. Only a few feet of welding was left now. "Im sorry."
Then I cut the welding making me and the tube be pulled harshly down into the depths of the ocean. I lost consciousness due to the pressure.
I woke up to an alarm going off in my ears *Low Air! Low Air! Low Air!* I opened my eyes and felt a lot of pain.
There is a gash across my entire chest up the side of my neck which cut through my wet suit making the front part of it hang awkwardly. I had smaller cuts along my back shoulders, arms and hands tearing up the wetsuit in a lot of pieces making it open in a lot of areas. A terrible pain in my elbow and shoulder making me unable to move it much. I stand up and start to swim outside of the tube that dragged me down with it. Outside of the tube I see a sunken lifeboat with the number 18 on it. I swam over to the lifeboat as fast as I could carrying my welding equipment with me.
I swim through the hatch on the top that seems to be open. Going inside I close the hatch and drop my gear searching the chest for anything helpful. I find 2 air tubes that go in your mouth with about one hour of oxygen in each of them. I start to work on the lifeboat, welding all of the holes and then letting the system empty out the water that is inside of the lifeboat.
I used all of one of the small tanks up when fixing the boat. I grabbed some of the bandages from the air tight container and a large blanket as well as a long blanket that was waterproof. I took off my wetsuit and goggles, throwing them on the other side of the lifeboat now just in my underwear. I set the waterproof blanket out, and set the blanket on top of it and started to put bandages across the deeper of the cuts the best I could using some of the metal and bandages to wrap my arm into a sling tying it around my neck taking the pressure off of it.
I searched the closet for some dry underwear. The only ones were some slightly large boxers but I changed quickly into them throwing my wet underwear with the wetsuit then covered up with the blanket once I got warm I fell asleep.
I woke up to the alarm of my watch quickly turning it off. I made sure everything was okay in the life boat and changed my bandages then got some more sleep thinking I was going to need the extra energy when I tried to get out of here. I woke up several hours later cold. I made sure to wrap up tightly in my blanket when I woke up and got some water and bars out of the chest and ate them.
My watch went into power saving mode when i was sleeping. I switch back into my other underwear making me shiver at the cold and slip on my torn wetsuit letting them dry on my body a little bit, then slipping my goggles on. I packed the waterproof blanket and blanket together in a bag that zipped up and had two straps that went on my back like a backpack that buttoned in the front.
I put the extra water and food that was in the chest in there as well. I made a strap using extra wetsuits in the closet to hold the welder nozzle part to the side of the bag and then the heavy part of the welder to my chest using it almost as amour. I grabbed the air tank I fell with and grabbed the other air tube and put it on the side of my wetsuit clipped on.
I took a flashlight I found in the chest and attached it to my other hip clipped onto my wetsuit. I took one last breath then opened the hatch and climbed out. All I could see was my hand in front of me; everything else around me was too dark to tell where anything was. I started to swim up using the flashlight and I found a rock formation that has holes going in and out of it.
I swam toward the hole and a current picked me up and threw me out to the left, throwing me into the side of another rock formation I didn't see. I lost my breath but had to calm down to not waste any air. I started to move upwards using the rocks as hand holders. Eventually losing the current that was throwing me into a wall.
"I won't be able to just swim up the currents would throw me back down every time" I thought looking around for some new way to get out of here. I shine my flashlight into one of the holes that was in the rock formation. I grab a rock nearby the entrance and threw myself into the hole passing through the current that was at the start of it.
Staying close to the walls I move along the cave system that seems to be inside this rock formation. After about 2 hours of searching I find an air pocket at the top of one of the tunnels and swim up there sitting on part of the wall that is bulging out of the wall letting my head and neck stick out of the water I sit back and lean on the curved wall resting my body for a while. I took a few paths to their dead ends then came back to the air pocket to save as much air as i could. After trying 20 different paths I grew tired and came back to take a nap on the air pocket there is only one path left and if it does work i will have to go back the way i came.
It has been around 8 hours since i left the life pod. Considering my luck i might have to go back to the lifeboat for another night. I rested for two hours on the air pocket then headed to the path taking all my gear. I see an opening at the end of the tunnel. I swim with some more speed to make it to the top.
I grab the rocks at the edge of the opening and peak my head out. I could barely see the top of the water with it now being night time. I stuck my hand out and couldn't feel a super strong current but I knew I couldn't swim through it. I keep my body close to the rock formation and pull myself against the current to the top of the rock formation that is slightly peeking out of the water.
Once I reached the top of it I could see the lifeboat off in the distance but I would have to use this rock formation to get there. I get a good breath from the air then dive back into the water using the hand holders pulling me all the way across the rock formation using my good arm and my feet to keep me from being pulled off by the current.
My muscles are screaming at me to let go but I fight on using every hand holder I can find to pull me a little bit further. It took me hours to get to the end of the current.
I swim up and see the lifeboat only a few hundred yards in front of me. I start to swim along the top of the water taking in the air from outside of the water. It takes me 20 minutes to get to the lifeboat and I climb inside and dump the welder and big air tank along with the pack I had on me.
I grab the little air tank and dive down and start to swim to the base that was dark with all the lights out. I get to a familiar hatch and type in my code and open it, closing it behind me quickly.
I just lay on the ground outside of the hatch catching my breath.
