Much of the eastern parts of Germany near the Oder River would be made Polish territory in compensation for having to lose quite a lot of their eastern lands to the Soviets when Germany and the USSR covered up the Polish state in 1939. East Prussia would be divided much of which going to Poland while Konigsberg would be annexed to the Soviets.
Austria was once more made an independent state after being annexed by Germany in 38 and placed within the Western Allies zone of influence. Much of Eastern Europe would fall under the tide of Soviet control as Stalin would quickly set the groundwork for communist takeovers of the respective countries to make them satellite states of Moscow.
The two really tricky decisions were regarding Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. Tito and his communist partisans had mostly liberated their country of Yugoslavia without much outside help, but the Slovenian parts of the country had been liberated by the Allies and had quickly rushed to form a democratic government and their independence as they saw Tito cementing his communist rule in the rest of Yugoslavia. Eventually, Tito and Stalin relented, and Slovenia was not only given independence but the former Istria region of Italy as well as the region that city of Fiume resided in; renamed Reka, as added territory.
As for Czechoslovakia, while much of the Czech part had been liberated by the Allies in the last month, the Slovakia part fell under Soviet control. It was decided that the nations would be split with a pro-democratic Czech Republic in Western influence and a communist satellite of the People's Republic of Slovakia under Soviet control. Stalin knew this was the best he was going to get as the West held much of the cards as Peggy and Steve and the world would soon learn on August 6th, 1945, at the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
Peggy and Steve were horrified to hear about the bomb on the radio, and Stark defended himself that he never would be a murderer like that, and besides, he refused the army's orders to make a second bomb when they had turned to other people to make the first bomb for Hiroshima...
Steve was enraged himself, and he personally called Phillips, pleading to him to change the Pentagon's minds and all about Japan, saying that Japan would retaliate for revenge, having a bad feeling.
Phillips quickly explained to Steve of Truman's decision: that dropping the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and a second one that would go off on the 9th at Nagasaki might be more preferable to an invasion of the Japanese mainland that was planned for November, Operation: Downfall. The last year with the war against Japan showed just how far the whole nation was willing to go to save the empire. The battles around and for the Philippines, Iwo Jima, Okinawa... the Japanese would go to brutal lengths just to kill only a few extra Americans.
And of course, brutality met with brutality, as the US had been bombing the home islands with B-29 Super fortresses raids almost nonstop for months, including the firebombing of Tokyo. The idea of strategic bombing always unsettled Steve and Peggy, the idea that large bomber formations could destroy factories and cripple a nation's capacity to wage war. While good on paper, the theory was proven wrong when put into practice as while factories would be destroyed, they quickly could be brought running again by the workers, which led to the obvious and tragic conclusion: factories will still be offline if all the workers are killed.
Phillips quickly got clearance and permission to say the information that he needed for Steve. Operation Downfall was expected to conservatively cost the US a million casualties, almost twice as much as the US had already after almost four years of war. The Japanese estimate was even worse with perhaps ten million casualties at least. Some even thought that the entire population of the country would die before accepting defeat, and the Japanese certainly had proven they'd go all the way with that.
Thus, Truman's threat at Potsdam for Japan: accept unconditional surrender or be destroyed. The atomic bombs showed that Truman was backing up his ultimatum.
Steve resignedly gave in after hearing the outcome, and Peggy had to reassure him that it was Japan's fault in the first place for starting the Pacific war, and that Japan was a whole different world compared to America or even Britain.
Luckily, Peggy distracted him with new memories that quickly made him forget about Japan, though he paid respect for the Japanese with a prayer, knowing that all humans can't be that different somehow.
And so, the war of Japan and the Pacific officially ended on September 2, and the world slowly moved on, with Europe and the Pacific healing, with America mostly intact with many soldiers unable to forget the horrors of war but healing slowly with their families.
As for Steve and Peggy, they reveled in watching over Susan and Bucky, assisting Stark, and the growth of their new baby, and by December, Peggy was remarkably full-term, ready to be due any day.
"You alright?", Steve asked as Peggy nearly tripped while walking around their place, New York was fully engulfed in winter as the much of the entire planet was finally enjoying a December at peace after such a long time.
"I'm alright... just kinda wish this one was more like Susan at the moment; I wasn't having as many issues right up until the minute she was born.", Peggy chuckled.
Steve smiled, "True, but seeing you like this, Peggy, you are more beautiful than ever, carrying our second child.", leaning down to kiss her baby bump that's as big as a kickball.
Peggy sighed warmly, and gave a little laugh as there came a kick immediately upon Steve's touch, "I think our child agrees with me.", smiling. She can feel the familiar pressure on her hips, but she hasn't experienced contractions yet, and figured that the baby is taking its time...After all, it's the holidays, and New York City is having peace at least, so there's no urgency as far as she can tell, but she is a tad impatient all the same.
"Just be glad you're close to having it alright and not having to go a few extra months.", Steve reminded. "Good point.", Peggy looked down and smiled. "Maybe the little one is waiting until it's Christmas Day...".
"Well, they're only going to get the same amount of presents then if their birthday and Christmas fall on the same day.", Steve joked as Peggy lightly slapped his hand.
"Don't say that, Steve... our child can hear you... they'll wait till March or April to prevent that if you mean it!", Peggy laughed.
Steve held his hands up in playful surrender, "Alright, alright, I give!", and Peggy giggled before smiling, "Shall we check on what Susan and Bucky's doing?".
"Sounds good to me.", Steve smiled, escorting her to their master bedroom, and put the old wolf stuffy on the movie-reel stone as they sat on the loveseat couch, smiling as the usual visions of Bucky and Susan appeared, with Bucky having a card game with Mo in Bucky's room, and Susan talking with Tara as they are having a major discussion about Tara's high school boyfriend, Derek who's taking her out to the prom.
Tara has been dating Derek for the past year, and Susan can feel that something's off, but seeing that Tara is happy, she decided to let it go after a near-major fight about him a few months ago.
And as for Susan, being a freshman, she decided to go with Chris as friends, secretly knowing that Chris's boyfriend is going to see him in the baseball field while the prom is on full blast, distracted.
Susan has met Chris's boyfriend whose name is Marco a few times, and actually felt that Marco is genuine, and good unlike Derek for some reason, unknowing that she got Peggy's incredible institution of seeing people through their egos and stuff, but it's less strong in Susan.
Anyhow, the prom is going to be soon in a couple of weeks, and Tara had brought some well-quality dresses from thrift shops on impulse, unlike Susan who had already found a perfect dress.
Upon seeing that Tara is going to have a mini pageant-dress up session in Susan's room, Peggy smiled, "Steve, why don't you go make something for dessert? I know you have bathed and changed out diapers on Susan when she was a baby, but you better scoot out. And besides, I think Susan would want my expertise on Tara's dresses even if she might not hear me.".
"Alright, if you think that'll work... I'll stay back then for a bit. Same thing as when she was having her... moments.", Steve said. While Susan, when she started having her times of the month and all, had Wendy and in part, Tara to help, Peggy was also giving what little help she could from the other side as well, which meant that Steve was giving his respectful distance and letting them have their way.
Which honestly felt like the same deal in the outside world for them. It certainly wasn't the most visible, but you could feel it everywhere, especially when the men were slowly starting to come back from Europe and the Pacific. Peggy herself quickly outshone Rosie the Riveter and really started hammering in the idea of female empowerment; similar to one of the feminist waves that they were catching from Susan's time period, but here with them, it was happening earlier.
Peggy was shocked to have many fans, but luckily, paparazzi didn't exist a lot back then in the 1940s, especially when she has more to protect for.
"Thank you, luv.", Peggy kissed Steve on the cheek, and Steve smiled, and got off the loveseat, heading out of the master bedroom, to the kitchen, thinking that he'd whip up Peggy's favorite dessert, apple dumplings.
Peggy gently and contentedly laid back on the loveseat, rubbing her belly bump warmly as she listened and watched the pageant, occasionally voicing her opinion on the dresses, with Susan seeing and hearing her illusion, disagreeing or agreeing with Peggy's opinion, trying to give pointers to Tara as she showed off the several dresses.
Upon finally finding the perfect dress, Tara was elated when she got Susan's 'yes', and unknowingly, Peggy's 'yes' as well, spinning and dancing, Peggy smiled warmly as she adjusted herself, annoyed at the back pain, murmuring, "I know you're full grown in there, honey, but you are sure heavy on my back.".
A sharp punch showed through, and Peggy groaned, "No offense.", before she felt twinges, and then something broke, water spotting through her skirt, and she gasped out in pain as the twinges became shaper, and then screamed out, "Steve!", as her first full-blown contraction came, clutching her belly bump, unknowing that she somehow got not just Susan, but Tara, Bucky, and Mo's attention.
While those on the other side of the wall for moments were trying to figure out what just happened there with what could be defined as a strange event, Steve was running back to Peggy when he noticed the water.
"Oh, for a second there, I thought something happened with Susan...", Steve gave a sigh of relief as his Immedient worry was quickly dismissed. "Looks like this one's done waiting, huh?".
Peggy panted, nodding, "Yes, looks like Susan's gonna have a baby sibling on Christmas Eve.", as she took deep breaths, "Get me to the bed, Steve.".
Steve nodded, "Okay, hold on, Peggy.", slowly and carefully helping Peggy up as they waddled to the bed, with Peggy nearly doubling over in pain as she shouted from another contraction five minutes in.
On the other side of the wall, with Peggy and Steve unknowing that they had left the movie-reel stone on as they are extremely focused on the incoming birth of their second child, two mirrors turned on, glowing transparent green around the borders, in Susan's room and Bucky's room.
Susan glanced at the mirror, with Tara asking, "What is going on? Are you seeing it too? Wait, you knew!", and Susan smiled, "I have to know when it comes to my true parents...Chris only knew my secret, but he never saw this as he believed me first, but apparently, you are the type who sees it before believing it. Through this is the first time I actually am awake without sleepwalking.".
Tara widened her eyes, shocked and bewildered as in another place, Bucky grinned, "Looks like my bro is going to be a dad again, and I'm gonna be an uncle again...", with Mo staring in shock between Bucky and the mirror, "Wait, are you saying that the blonde jock is your bro, and the preggo hottie is your sister-in-law?".
Bucky smiled, "Yep. That's Steve and Peggy...I know you had always believed me when I told you that they were watching over me, but do you truly believe me now?".
"Can't really deny it now... that Quantonium stuff is weird...", Mo shook his head. "According to Doc.", Bucky chuckled as they continued to watch.
"How long has this been happening?", Tara asked Susan. "I think all my life... I... I still have questions, but... Tara... I think my parents are alive...", Susan looked over to her.
Tara looked at her, "What makes you say that?", and Susan gestured to the mirror, "Well, look, they got Christmas decorations, and Mum is pregnant, soon to be a mum again...They have been watching over me, so they never forgot me...They were there at my baseball parties, my birthday parties, you name it...".
Tara exhaled in surprise, "Whoa...", before hearing another shout of pain from Peggy as she went through another contraction, still in her long-sleeve pajama shirt and skirt, laying horizontally on the bed, which is how everybody is seeing her from the side, still respectful but able to see reasonably.
Steve checked on Peggy, removing the underwear discreetly, "Breathe, Peggy. Okay, you're about halfway dilated.", before moving to sit behind Peggy's side, facing her between her upper body and her lower body, tenderly brushing Peggy's hair back.
Peggy did as she was told to do and slowly started breathing, trying to take it easy and get through the contractions with as little pain as possible. "Do you want me to try and get the doctor here? At least it would be easier this time than Susan... we're not on the invasion beach with this one.".
Susan shook her head as the sisters continued to watch, "I just have so many questions... from the sounds and all... and just look at them compared to some of their furniture... how... big they are...".
Tara nodded numbly, "Yeah...But they look like you...and they gave life to you...That makes them good in my book.", and Susan smiled gratefully, "Thanks, Tara...", still watching.
Peggy shook her head as she took deep breaths, "I don't want you to leave me alone, Steve...please?", clutching his hand.
Steve nodded, "Okay then... we'll just have to do this one by ourselves again.". He squeezed her hand tight as another contraction went through her.
Peggy took deep breaths, smiling softly at Steve as he kept holding into her hand while he rubbed her baby bump with his other hand, hoping to settle the baby a little.
"You know, we never really decided on those baby names yet, my queen...Are you still set on Carol for a girl and Mark for a boy?", Steve asked warmly...
Peggy chuckled softly, "I'm still set on Carol for a girl, but Mark doesn't sound right anymore...", before clenching her other hand into the bed lining as she breathed slowly, "What about you? Are you still set on Henry for a boy and Diana for a girl?".
"I guess Carol is much better than Diana, but if Mark isn't working for you, then we can always do my choice of Henry. But first, let's just make sure what we've got before then, alright?", Steve said as Peggy nodded and gave another push.
"Please tell me we're getting close already... it's really taking so much out of me...", Peggy panted as she was trying to breath.
Steve nodded, and kissed Peggy on the forehead before moving to check, and smiled brightly as he looked over her legs, "You're all dilated, Peggy! Steady pushes.".
Peggy smiled in relief as she heard his proclamation, and took a deep breath before grunting and pushing, feeling the baby move through the womb, and gasped as she felt it drop into the birth canal, shouting out as another contraction passed through.
Steve stroked her legs, "That's it, Peggy, that's it.", as Peggy kept taking deep breaths and steady pushes for the next 10 minutes, groaning at the contractions before shouting out, "It's coming!".
"Yes, it's crowning, Peggy! Oh, my god!", Steve laughed tearfully as Peggy looked at him, "What's wrong?".
Steve looked at her with an ear-to-ear grin, "It got my hair! It got my blonde hair!", and Peggy sobbed happily, smiling at Steve's joy as she kept pushing, tears falling down her face as pain came at her nether regions, through her groin as the baby's head steadily came through.
"I got it, Peggy, I got it!", Steve took ahold of the baby's head, gently turning it in his hands, and Peggy panted, taking ragged breaths as she kept pushing, crying out at the increasing pain as the shoulders slowly came through, with one shoulder freed, and the other shoulder got stuck as Peggy sobbed out, panting as she stopped, "I can't just do it anymore, Steve!".
