We walk in like a group of zombies, David upfront shakes the hand of a built man around my dad's age. I watch as the crewmates ,i have lived on board with for months, flood out around me into the base being shown where their rooms were and being lead away in small groups.
I watch James' parents hug around a man close to my age with brown hair. Must be his brother Caleb I heard so many stories about. I watch around and my eye catches on a blonde girl in jeans and a white long sleeve shirt holding a black ring to her mouth as she scans the people walking in.
A throat wrechting howl tears my attention away and back on James' family to see Caleb drop to his knees being hugged by his parents who are also crying. A girl with black hair standing behind Caleb that I didn't notice before turns to the blonde girl in front of me tears streaming down her face and just shakes her head before turning back to Caleb on the ground.
I turn back toward the girl in front of me and see her face go pale as several tears run down her cheeks and she faints. I slide in under her, catching her before her head hits the ground. I pick her up asking for directions to the med bay before jogging after the man showing me the way.
I send the man away and set the limp body of the girl on the bed in front of me. I make sure to check her vitals and then apply first aid to her knees that hit the ground when she fainted. I pull up a stool and sit next to her bed just watching her sleep. I push her hair out of her face, and wipe down her eyes that were wet from tears with the sleeve of my shirt.
A few minutes later the man I saw shaking David's hand walks in worry flooding his face. He hurries to the bedside I am at, grabbing the girls hand and kissing it then holding it in his hands. He looks up at me now noticing me sitting there and sets down the girls hand gently. "She just fainted but I caught her before she completely collapsed so other than some bruising to her knees she should be totally fine… at least physically." I whispers the last part before meeting the mans eyes once again.
"It's Perseus right" He asks me. I nod in agreement. He extends his hand for me to shake. "The name is Richard Wylde, and this is my daughter Charlotte." He shakes my hand as he gestures with his head at the unconcious girl on the table. After exchanging pleasantries, I head out of the med bay leaving Richard alone with his daughter.
Remembering the path I took from the hatch I head back towards the connected bases and see most of the people have cleared. On a table off to the right of the hatch was a place to plug in your chips to update your maps and give you a map of inside the base with the software to update your map anytime new changes have been made to the main computer's map. I head onto the cyclops and head to my room packing up all of my things into a bag and grabbing my tablet, I head back to the base now updating my chip. I look onto the new map that was downloaded and head to the last room that wasn't occupied.
It was off to the side like it wasn't meant to be a room, I was fine with the distance wanting time to be by myself without anyone bothering me. I head to the room claiming it through my tablet. When I got to the room i scanned my handprint unlocking the door and walking inside. Inside is a bed with a black comforter and a note with a recording device on the desk. I toss my bags onto the bed and grab the note.
*Here are all of the days I was gone from you… James* I grab my tablet and connect the recording device to it and start the first video dated back 6 months.
James appears on my screen, hands adjusting the camera. "Testing testing" He watches his monitor to the right of seeing the volume go up and down as he speaks. "So i'm not to sure what to say on here but i wanted to get a recording of all of my days away from base, If i'm being honest it is really boring around here. I miss having lunch with Charlotte and joking around in my ship bay." I stopped the video clicking on another video a few months later. James appears once again in front of the camera; he now has a beard and dark bags under his eyes. "For the past 4 days I have had to pull 16 hour shifts on mining because Louis threw out his back leaving us with only three men working the mining hours. I could really use one of your head massages right about now Charlotte, i miss you…I hope to see you soon" The video stops. I click the last video on the list. The camera now shows a ship bay and somethings falling outside of the closet then James stepping out covered in oil and walks over to the camera looking past the camera smiling. The camera is picked up and moved following James who is making weird faces. He grabs the camera and turn it around showing Charlotte who is smiling while reaching for the camera. He sets the camera down and picks her up in a hug and spins her around, when he puts her down she makes a grossed out face to the now oil and sweat covering her clothes. The video cuts to another one of James sitting in a med bay bed covered in blood putting up peace signs to the camera before Charlotte pushes his chest so he is laying in the bed with bandages in her other hand. It cuts to a video with the room i'm sitting in as the background and then James slides into the camera excited showing off his ring. "Best birthday gift ever! Oh yeah and Charlottes ring was pretty cool too" he says laughing then sticking his tongue out. I stop the video and unplug the recorder from my tablet.
I sling my tablet around my shoulder and grab the recording heading out of my new room. Using the map I find the place i wanted to go to fairly quickly. I knock on the door after a few beats the door opens showing a blonde girl with red eyes and a robe wrapped around her.
"Hi, my name is Perseus, and I believe this belongs to you" I hand her the recorder and the note that were on my desk. I give her a nod and start to walk away before I am grabbed by the back of my shirt being pulled back off of balance. I catch myself on the door frame but am now leaning over Charlotte her feeling so small to me now that she was so close.
Feeling a blush on my ears I step back giving her space so she didn't feel uncomfortable but she was not even fazed. "Do you have a cord to connect to this?" She asked, her eyes not meeting mine.
Nodding to her and pulling around my tablet .May i come in?" I ask sticking my hand out for the recording device.
She puts it in my hand and steps to the side letting me step into her room. She stands next to me as i connect the recording device to my tablet like i did earlier and go to the first video. I motion her over to sit in her bed, after she sits I hand her my tablet taking it off my neck. I leave her room hearing the first video start as the door shuts.
I head back to my room, walking out of my shoes and throwing my shirt to the side I slump into the bed falling asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow.
