Friday – Late August, 2017

The Tennyson House

Ben

I woke up the next morning to the sound of my alarm going off. I let out a yawn as I sat up and tapped my phone, causing my alarm to shut off. I put my hands on my face as it dawned on me. It was Friday. One week of high school had gone by and it was terrible. I let out a sigh, not knowing what else to do.

One Hour Later

An hour later after eating my breakfast, I left the house and began my walk to school, alone. Again. I still wanted to avoid Nathan. Maybe that was unfair of me, but I just wasn't in any mood to talk to him after what happened the other day. Just then, I heard rapid footsteps from behind me.

I turned around, to see Nathan jogging behind me, trying to catch up with me. I turned back around and quickened my pace, but it was no use. After a few more seconds, Nathan caught up with me.

"Hey, you weren't waiting for me, just like yesterday!" he said as he walked by my side.

I ignored him as I continued to walk.

"Ben?" Nathan asked with confusion.

I came to a stop and sighed.

"What do you want?" I finally asked.

"To understand why you won't talk to me."

"You could have stood up for Gwendolyn and you did nothing to help her."

He shrugged.

"Hey, man. I told you that I stand up for you. Gwendolyn can stand up for herself if she really wants to."

"But she's being controlled by Kevin! He won't even let her sit with us at lunch!"

"Sorry. I'm sure she can handle the situation herself if she isn't happy."

"That's the thing, Nathan! She's so unhappy that she must think that there's no way out! She's not going to help herself!"

He didn't say anything this time.

"Whatever." I said, before I began walking again.

"Does this mean you're still pissed at me?" he asked.

I stopped once more.

"No, I am still unhappy with you, Nathan. You can walk with me and talk to me, just don't expect me to have much to say."

I continued walking after that.

A Few Hours Later

Madison High School Gymnasium

So, I was in fourth period. Physical Education. And seeing as I was a nerd, it should be no surprise that I sucked at P.E. This was our first week of school, so we weren't actually having lessons or anything like that yet.

Today, as well as most of the other days this week, were what Coach Ramos called a "free day". Basically, where we just did our own thing. Whether it be shooting hoops, girls playing jump rope or passing a volleyball back and forth or the lesser athletic kids walking around the gym for the hour, like me, this is what a free day was.

Coach Ramos was a Hispanic man and he was also pretty nice. Seeing as I was one of the lesser athletic kids, I was walking around the gym. I had also neglected to mention that Gwendolyn was also in my P.E. class. But of course, we didn't actually talk, as she had a few friends in the class.

And if she wanted to hang out with them, that was fine by me. But she wasn't the only familiar face in this class. Unfortunately, the king of the bullies, Kevin Levin himself was in this class, too. Most of the time he left me alone, but today was different. Today he was really giving me hell. As I was walking, he came up to me and began poking me in the back.

"Go away, Kevin." I muttered.

He began chuckling at that.

"Listen to you! "Go away, Kevin!". Wow, that's rich!" he said as he came to my side, putting his arm around my shoulder. "I just want to know what has you so down in the dumps today!"

His words made my face redden.

He doesn't care what's wrong with me! He just wants to know so he can torment me about it!

Me not answering made him talk again.

"Oh, let me guess! Mommy told you that you were adopted, didn't she?"

I said nothing in return. I looked around the room for Coach Ramos and eventually found him, helping a group of a few boys and girls serve a volleyball. He wasn't going to be of any help to me.

"Oh, are Mommy and Daddy getting divorced?"

"Leave me alone, Kevin." I said, trying to push his arm off of me.

That attempt failed.

"Come on, out with it! What are you moping about?"

Seeing as he wasn't going away, I finally sighed.

"You're the reason why I'm down in the dumps." I said.

"Me? What did I do?"

"Kevin, you're so negative! The way you treat Gwendolyn is awful! Y..."

"Don't bring my girl into this, Tennyson! You don't get to mention her! If she really had a problem with me, then I'm sure she'd tell me!"

For once, I ignored him.

"Kevin, it's clear to me that she hates you! The other day when you took her from our table, she looked at me with sad eyes! She hates being your girlfriend and she is so unhappy that she doesn't see a way out!"

He didn't say anything after that, so I was finally able to push his arm off of me and continue walking. I continued walking forward again and not even a minute later, a wave of pain jolted through my back as I was struck by something. I fell over onto the gym floor as a basketball rolled away out of my view. I pulled myself up a bit and looked behind me, to see Kevin standing there.

"That's what you get for mentioning my girl, kid!" he said with anger.

He seriously threw a basketball at me!

I just looked up at him with surprise.

"Wh... You threw a basketball at me?" I asked. "Why would you do that?!"

"Because you didn't listen to me, kid! I told you to leave my girl out of it!"

"You can't just..."

He interrupted me by walking over to me and kicking me in the rib, which shut me up.

"Don't try to stand up to me, kid! I already told you that shit won't fly with me!"

With that, he walked away. I turned my head to look at Coach Ramos, to see that he hadn't even noticed what happened. Only a few kids in the gym noticed it and they didn't even bother offering me help. Not even Gwendolyn batted an eye. It was typical. The nerd was getting picked on and barely anyone bats an eye.

Two Hours Later

Madison High School Cafeteria

"So, what happened?"

I sat at the lunch table, just poking at the food with my plastic fork.

"Ben?" Nathan said my name.

I dropped my fork and pushed out from the table a bit, resting both my feet on one of the table legs.

"Kevin was taunting me earlier today, trying to get me to tell him what was wrong with me. And once I mentioned Gwendolyn, he told me not to bring 'his girl' into it."

"And what happened from there?"

"I kept mentioning Gwendolyn and I told him that she didn't like being with him. He retaliated with saying that if she had a problem, she'd tell him. I told him that she was so unhappy, that she didn't see a way out. Then, he backed off to leave me alone. Or so I thought."

"What did he do next?"

"He threw a basketball at me with force and hit me in the back."

Nathan said nothing.

"He told me that was for mentioning 'his girl'."

"Why didn't you try standing up for yourself?"

I looked up at him.

"Yeah, I tried. And all he did was tell me 'you don't get to stand up to me' and to finish, he kicked me in the rib."

"Did the gym teacher do anything?"

I snorted.

"Of course not. Coach Ramos was helping a group of students with a volleyball. He wouldn't have been any help."

Before Nathan could say anything else, I heard Kevin yell from across the room.

"Incoming!"

I didn't even have time to turn and look, but I'm glad I didn't, as I was struck in the back of the head by something. It sent my flying face first into my tray of Salisbury steak, corn and green beans. A second later, I pushed myself off of my plate. I immediately felt pain in my nose, as well as in the back of my head.

"Agh!" I groaned, as I put my hands on my nose. "I think I broke my nose!"

Nathan shook his head.

"Nah, you would know if you broke your nose. Take your hands off of it."

I did as he said.

"Yeah, you'll be fine."

I now realized that my glasses were crooked. And one of the lenses was cracked as well.

"Oh, come on!" I said as I took them off. "Not my glasses! I can hardly see without them!"

"Damn. Sorry dude. That really sucks."

I would have said something, but I felt someone slap the back of my neck.

"Ack!" I exclaimed as I sprung forward, holding my neck as I looked behind me.

I wasn't at all surprised to see Kevin standing there behind me.

"Sorry about that, Tennyson! It seems as though I've misplaced my apple!"

Misplaced! He has some nerve!

I noticed that one of Kevin's cronies had a slingshot at their table, so Kevin hadn't "misplaced" his apple as he said he had. Kevin paced over a few steps, bent down and picked up the apple that had come to a stop on the floor. He stood back up and made a point that I noticed it.

"Thanks." He said.

Nathan violently stood up from his spot.

"Who the fuck do you think you are?!" he exclaimed at Kevin with notable anger in his voice.

I held up my hand, signaling for Nathan to stop. He did so, but looked at me with surprise.

"You can stop defending me, Nathan." I said. "It's not working. I tried standing up for myself and it didn't work. Even you, the meanest, toughest guy I know can't get Kevin to stop pushing me around. He isn't fazed by anyone. It just isn't working."

Nathan clenched his fist and gave Kevin a serious glare. I could tell that he was considering going against what I said and attacking Kevin anyway. I had to step in and stop him from doing anything.

"Nathan, please!" I exclaimed. "I'm serious! It's just not worth it."

He continued to look at me and the look on his face eventually relaxed, if only just.

"Okay." He spoke at last as he sat down. "If that's really want you want."

I let out a sigh as I leaned back in my chair.

"You hear that, Kevin? Do your worst."

When Kevin didn't say anything, I turned back around. I didn't see him there, so I decided to put my glasses back on. Once I had them back on, I saw Kevin already back on the other side of the cafeteria, sitting at his table and laughing it up with his friends. I let out a sigh as I took off my glasses once more and turned back around.

"Don't worry, dude. We'll get him somehow." Nathan replied.

I shook my head in response.

"There's nothing that can be done." I muttered.

That Night

The Tennyson House

Since it was a Friday night, I decided to stay up a little later and read for a while. I told my Mom and Dad what had happened, so they gave me my spare pair of glasses that I had worn last year. They weren't great, but they were better than nothing. While I was reading, I was going to turn the page I was on when I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I pushed my chair out from my desk and got up to look out the window.

So, the way my house is set up, the window of my bedroom faces the backyard and the woods past my backyard. And I could see a faint glow coming from the woods. I continued staring out my window as I considered my options.

I could go out there; it's not like I have school in the morning. It could be a hermit. Or worse. Wait, what's worse than a hermit?

I shook my head. I decided that it couldn't hurt to go and check out the woods. I got my day clothes back on and pulled my shoes on. I got up, grabbed my phone off the charger and I left the room.

Sometime Later

The Forest

I walked through the woods, getting closer to the source of the glow. I didn't see anyone around, so I was confused. I walked into an area where there weren't so many trees and I noticed it. There was a crater in the center of the area, surrounded by small flames. And at the bottom of the crater, was a pod of some kind. As soon as I got close to the edge of the crater, the ground crumbled beneath me and I fell into the crater.

"Agh!" I exclaimed as I tried to get out of the crater.

I tried to pull myself out, but my grip slipped, and I slid back down the slope, colliding with the pod, which was surprisingly only warm and not burning hot like the flames. I eventually stood up and as I did, I heard a hiss come from the pod. I jumped back with surprise and turned around, to see that the pod had opened. And when I looked on the inside, I noticed that there was something resting in there. It looked like some kind of advanced wristwatch.

It was black, green and had two gray stripes. There was also some sort of ring structure on it. Feeling somewhat intrigued, I reached out for it. And, as it the thing had a mind of its own, it leapt out of the pod and attached itself to my right wrist! I let out a scream of shock and I grabbed onto it, trying to pull it from my hand. But it wouldn't come off.

In my attempts to pull it off, the ring structure popped up and I saw the silhouette of a humanoid figure. I just stared at it, unsure of what to do. After a few more seconds, I cautiously turned the ring and another silhouette appeared, this time appearing more human than the last one. For some reason, I looked around my surroundings, before I turned back to the alien watch. I finally shrugged and began to push down on the ring.

Author's Note:

* I'm pretty sure this is a pretty uncool place to end it, but whatever. I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter! So, this is it. Ben finally has the Omnitrix. If this were a Spider-Man comic, well, the spider bite has happened! And because of that, his entire personality, as well as school life will change! I won't say anything else.

* So, with that said, I'm done here. I'm going to go though, so have a fantastic day and bye.

Review Responses

Car45 (Chapter 5): Interesting AU so far. I like your alternate versions of Ben and Gwen.

Thanks, Car. I'm glad you're finding this AU interesting so far. I'm glad that you like the alternate versions of Ben and Gwen, as well. Thanks for the review, as always.

DarkMinetex (Chapter 5): Oh nice! I was remembering about movies and cartoons, that I forgot the comics! It's been a great story so far and I have some questions. I hope this won't be a spoiler or something like that. I didn't see if you specified about what omnitrix will ben receive.

I mean in your story title it hints to the ultimatrix but so far you are mentioning about the omnitrix. So will ben have the ultimatrix or the omnitrix? and if it is the omnitrix will he have the prototype or the omnitrix saw in omniverse?

Also I see that at least now kevin looks like the antagonist and while ben will have other villains (I suppose) I wanna ask if you will introduce some kind of arc like the symbiote and after some interaction with ben. His host would be Kevin? or do you have other plans for him?cause I don't know if he is an osmosian or not) Anyway great chapter! I hope to read more of your story.

Thanks, DarkMinetex. Yeah, there are so many good movies and T.V. shows out there, that a lot of people seem to forget about the comics, especially Ultimate Spider-Man, I rarely see that comic being discussed and that's a shame because as I've said, it's my favorite comic run ever. Even the main Amazing Spider-Man series is doing pretty good right about now.

Nick Spencer, the writer of Amazing Spider-Man for the last three years is doing a great job with the series and he even seems to be repairing some of the damage that was caused by One More Day as well as from most of what Dan Slott wrote during his run on the character. Anyway, about your questions, I'll try to answer them while avoiding going too far into spoilery territory.

So, you were asking if the title of this story, Ultimate Alien hints toward the Ultimatrix and I can say that no, it doesn't. Seeing as I've been heavily inspired by Ultimate Spider-Man when coming up with the ideas for this story, I decided to use the Ultimate Alien title as a nod to my inspiration. As you may have seen from this chapter, Ben has the Omnitrix or at least the one from the original series.

And as for your question about Kevin, he is not an Osmosian, I can say that right away. I will go ahead and say that he has the basic energy sponge abilities, so definitely do expect for Kevin 11 to eventually show up in the story, though it will take a while, just don't expect him to have the full power set of an Osmosian. As for what you said about symbiotes, I will tell you that the Kevin 11 story event will be somewhat similar to the Venom saga from USM, but different at the same time.

I will also let this fact slip, that Gwen will remain normal and powerless for the full series. They're not related in this series in the first place, so she wouldn't have powers anyway and that's the way I want it. But that doesn't mean that someone in Ben's family won't develop some powers at some point, I'll say that. Thanks for the review, as always.

Next Chapter: Ben starts a forest fire.
