Jacob Black Pov

"So is this the part where you tell me that I should just leave?" Embry said as we both watched Josh drive away out the gate, onto the dirt road.

I glared at him. The last thing I need is his drama.

"Jake-"

"Save it." I said, stopping him in his tracks. "I told you before, whatever goes on between you and Sarah is for you to fix. Sure Josh thinks he can help you out but he can't, no more than Leah could if she was here."

I'd give anything for her to be here.

"I'm trying to do the right thing here." He said helplessly.

"Well stop. Take it from me, learn from my history and stop trying to repeat it. Got it?" I stated.

"What are you talking about?"

"This pissing contest with the Ethan kid. You of all people know when I allowed Camilla to get in between Leah and I, I nearly lost everything. Whose to say Sarah will be more forgiving and understanding than Leah. Sarah is sixteen, she has no clue how to check her emotions. I let my insecurities trick me into believing I wasn't good enough for Leah, in spite of everything we had. You of all people know how it all happened. You can't give Sarah a choice to be with someone else, ever. I've always tried to do the right thing for everybody except myself. Don't go down that road. You want her in your life, prove it."

Years ago I allowed Leah's coworker Adam, young sister Camilla to get in between my relationship- I was so insecure about Sam, that I confided in the wrong person.

Embry is very much pushing Sarah into trusting someone she does not know. Similar to what I had done months before Sarah was born, years ago.

I had practically become friends with Camilia. I didn't think anything of it, overthinking was my first mistake with Leah. I didn't know how to communicate with her, I didn't know how to show what I was thinking or feeling besides anger and neither did Leah.

Leah and Sam had history, but it wasn't nothing as I thought it was. Camilla came to me as someone who I thought wanted to help. I was desperate at that time to think I needed someone to tell me what to do, but she wasn't who I thought she was.

She was in fact worse than any nightmare I dreamed of. Thankfully I lived through it and Leah has long forgiven, merely forgotten it all. Never of what happened years ago is ever talked about now, but it's something I will never forget.

"You may not see it, but you pull away from Sarah… she will run straight to him." I said, speaking of the Ethan kid. "Almost losing the love of my life, the woman that I couldn't dream of even with someone else's imagination. I think back at that time a lot and at one of those moments that I couldn't see Camilla for who she really was. That Ethan kid is half-way in. We can't stop Sarah. She's a teenager, whatever you tell them not to do… they'll do it without a second thought. Stop trying to give her a choice. Nature has already done that for you." I stated.

Embry nodded "I know, but..." He trailed off obviously lost in thought and in defeat. "Know what, you're right. I know, I'm such an idiot."

"Won't argue there." I laughed, punching his arm. "Trust if there was a way I could have things be different, I damn sure would have tried to have a better outcome years ago."

"Thanks." Embry said and I nodded while walking towards his car.

"Well, I guess I'll give you a ride to the cafe then head on home since I'm off duty. I think i'll talk with Sarah tomorrow."

I nodded once more, not saying a word.

Sarah is a lot like how I was when I was younger when it comes to people. Very inviting, and other words...naive, in her case of being someone who is run by their emotions...an empath... she can be gullible.

Just look at what happened the other day, Embry told her he was moving and she ran straight to Sam's son. The fact that I overheard that from Claire, who of course lives with Ethan, just shows the drama is getting out of hand.

For everyone who knows of Leah and I history love triangle with Sam, I can only guess this generation's unwanted threesome involves my only daughter because of Embry.

All I know is that history repeats itself no matter if you learn from it or not.

*Flashback*

Sitting in my office half-asleep, I tiredly switch through the channels of my small portable television.

I snapped my head up when someone knocked on the door.

"Hey." Camilla said walking right in. Her chopper skin in sweaty gym clothes and dark hair in a bun.

I sat up in my chair, rubbing my eyes

"Sorry if I woke you. I just saw that the gate was open, and knew it was a little early on my usual run. I figured I'll come in to see what's going on." She stated. "Are you okay?"

I nodded, staring at the dark blue jogging suit she was wearing. I didn't know she jogged in the mornings.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm fine. Just .. couldn't sleep."

"Are you sure?" She questioned.

Clearing my throat I spoke. "I'm fine."

"You're here mighty earlier, and by yourself." She clarified.

How would she know what time I normally get here?

I sighed. "Like I said, I couldn't sleep." I needed to get out of the house before Leah woke.

"Well, I had been up for a while, made some coffee then decided to jog around and clear my head." She stated.

"Did it help?" I ask.

"I'll let you know once I get back to Adam's. He's still madly in love with your sister. He rarely sleeps through the night by himself anymore." She pauses for a second. "Are you and Leah still fighting?" She asked and I narrowed my eyes.

Fighting is a strong word.

I just shook my head at her, not wanting to think about it.

"You know… I get we're not friends, but we can pretend if you want. It's obvious you have a lot on your mind, and who knows… I probably can help. I'm good with secrets, if that's what you're worried about." She says.

I bit the inside of my cheek mulling that over.

Talking is the last thing I want to do, especially with her.

"It's six o'clock in the morning, and we're the only ones here. I have nothing else better to do but go home and watch television." She said, shrugging her shoulders.

I shook my head, not in the mood.

"Alright. Well, if you ever want to talk to get an inside glance from a chick perspective. Let me know, because I doubt you'll get too much from Adam or any of your wolf-mates." She said, turning to walk out the door.

Still not sure if what she said yesterday was on point or not, but a part of me was too afraid and pissed to find out.

When Leah walked in the house last night. Just the replay of seeing her get out of Sam's truck made me so angry I could have hit something.

I glance up at the clock on the wall rolling my eyes. "Wait." I said, staring down at the floor, then stood up from my chair. "Close the door." I said as Camilla paused, then slowly walked back in.

I sat on the edge of my desk as she shut the door. "What I say stays here. Got it?" I said when she came to stand right across from me.

"Yes sir." She said, nodding, placing both her hands in her thin jacket pockets.

I sighed, scratching my head. "What you said yesterday, How do I know what's really going on with her?"

I don't phase anymore, so I can't just read whatever it is that she's thinking like when we are wolves.

"I would say listen to her. Listen to what she doesn't say and also all that she does. Read between the lines, learn her patterns. If it's in fact obvious she's been lying, she doesn't trust you with the truth. You have to find out why. Usually it's because of the shame that she feels."

"Last night she tried talking to me, but I didn't want to hear it." I confessed.

I knew Sam had a lot to do with her wanting to break free from our everyday life.

"To me that's a good and bad sign, because no matter what she said; you would have a hard time believing her." Camilla stated, and I thought about it.

"True, if the conversation started off with the hint of Sam-"

"Then you feel she would obviously sugarcoat things to cover the fact that there's something deeper between them?" She suggested.

"I guess." I mumbled. "I already know it's for a fact on his part, but what I can't see is her possibly needing him?"

"So, How did the conversation start?" She asked.

That's easy.

"It started with…. 'What I have to say is going to piss you off' and 'At least you won't have to keep guessing' She said something like that." I stated.

"Then…. That's called trying to soften the blow." She snorted, scratching her head.

"Meaning?" I said, raising an eyebrow.

"Meaning everything your thinking is right on." Camilla replied. "Perhaps she was asking you to be okay with them."

"I don't know, none of it makes any sense. She said her relationship with Sam isn't as black and white." I stated.

"Ah, that must mean she's merely deeper than she wants to be."

"What do you mean?" I was lost.

"Guilt. Leah's already letting you know that she cares about Sam, but it isn't in love for him. She's using him. Yet, very much flattered by his feelings for her."

"I disagree." Leah never expressed being flattered by Sam's feelings before.

"You would." Camilla laughed a bit. "They have a tragic history, I'm sure you can understand that bond with someone."

"No." I said, shaking my head. "I mean yeah, Leah. We.. have a history. You don't know Leah. It's ying-yang, light or dark, yes or no, wet or dry-"

"Okay I got, Jacob." She said cutting me off. "She's all or nothing."

"Either way. It's like all of sudden she's obsessed with him." I stated.

"If she was ...then why is she with you?" She said fast,

I paused.

"I don't know."

"In my opinion, she's not obsessed. She's emotionally depressed."

I laughed without humor. "What?"

"Leah just enjoys his company and feels guilty about the past. There's nothing wrong with that."

"It is when it's affecting our family. Leah knows how Sam feels about her." I almost yelled.

Camilla flinched a little.

I rolled my eyes in anger. "Look, I'm not stupid. When someone says it's not you, it's me. That's the translation for it's entirely you."

"Okay... try talking to her once more, tell her to admit the real issue. Maybe she's tired of being a housewife, and is using Sam as an outing. For us women sometimes it's a turn-on when a guy who is into us flirts daily. Hints the term -work husband. How long has it been since you two had sex?" She asked.

I sighed, scratching my head. "Does it matter?"

"It does if she's really having an affair."

"It wouldn't be an affair, we're not married." I said too fast.

"That's surprising. You guys have been together for what…. Over nine years?"

"It doesn't matter." I mumbled.

"You have three kids and neither one of you have considered it?"

"A long time ago." I confessed.

"Let me guess, Leah claimed you guys were too young to wed."

"In so little words." I want to change the subject.

"It does explain some things." Camilla mouths.

"What is your honest advice? How do I turn her attention back to what's important?" I ask.

"You mean to remind her that your family is more important than Sam Uley affection?" She asked. "Easy. Give her an ultimatum."

"What?"

"An ultimatum. It's when-"

"Yeah, yeah. No need to explain, I know what the heck it is." I said standing up from the side of my desk frustrated.

"You know, for a beefy guy, you are carried by fragile wings. It's a little weird to see." She smirked.

"What does that mean?" I said, turning to look at her, putting my back against the wall.

"It means you're a guy, who's scared of losing his girl. You have to decide other than making her tell you the truth or give her a choice on whom she really wants. It's one and the same. Better than sitting and biting your nails, praying for the best." Camilla took a step closer towards me. "Give her an ultimatum. I can't tell you that she won't freak out, then break up with you, but then you won't have to question yourself anymore." She said, and I moved to lean back up against my desk.

"I don't want to do that." I stated.

"Why? Afraid of what her choice might be?"

"No. I already know it will be me." I say.

Camilla laughed. "Of course you'd say that."

"Look, I'm trying-"

"Jacob," She said, cutting me off. "My theory of a midlife crisis could be off and my thoughts of stress can be on point, but it's obvious neither will help you. Leah's unhappy. If she is struggling to get through something that only she feels is happening, then it's not you. With emotional depression, she has to find her way past it on her own."

"I need to help her. Just tell me what else I should do." Especially when all roads to a conversation lead to fighting. The last thing I wanted to do was fight with Leah.

"I told you. Give her an ultimatum. Tell her you don't want her to see him anymore. Try it. What do you have to lose?"

"No, I can't. It'll just piss her off and push her away."

She's right, I'm afraid I'll lose her.

"More than you already have?" She stated. "Are you sure?"

I shrugged my shoulders not saying a word, looking over at a photo of Leah and the boys on my wall.

For the first time since ever, I had no idea how to talk to Leah. We aren't teenagers anymore and I didn't want the boys to be hurt by our actions.

"She's been hanging out with Sam almost every day for the last few days, you know?." Camilla states.

"How would you know that?" I ask.

She shrugged. "I have eyes, and like I said yesterday, there are numerous reasons that things could be falling apart. Number one being intimacy, pretty understandable how you think you're the issue when it comes to that in particular. Has she mentioned anything specific to you? Unless she's worried about having more kids, that also could be a problem."

"No." I said, shaking my head. "I mean she mentioned not wanting to, but that's not on the list of possible problems."

"Are you sure?" Camilla asked.

"Positive."

"Well what about you? Do you want more kids?" She asked, and glared at her. It felt too weird that she was asking me this, like she had a hidden agenda by her question.

"I do. I mean I don't know. haven't thought about it, but not really. I mean I thought I did. I wouldn't mind, but it's obvious that's not going to happen."

"You never know." She said with a smile.

"Leah already said she didn't want anymore. Alright, another baby won't fix anything. It'll only make matters worse." I stated.

"So.. What will happen if she changes her mind?" She asked.

I shrugged my shoulders. "I don't know, but in order to have a baby- skin contact would have to be involved."

Camilla giggled. "Of course, and you won't be having sex until you talk things out. Things might help if you take charge more. Punch more into your Alpha-thing, I'm sure she'll love that. A little rough play never hurt anybody."

"Sex isn't our problem." I said irritated.

"Your words or hers?" She said with an amused look on her face.

I rolled my eyes. "Get off the subject."

"Maybe that's where you need to start. Find out what's going on in that head of hers. I would say 'try crying' but you're not a girl."

I chuckled. "Still wouldn't if I was."

"Right." She nodded.

"From inside the mind of a woman who cares, I'm sure the walls of control are crumbling all around her. If she honestly tried to talk with you last night, then it's obvious that your cold shoulder is making her… skin crawl and retreat like a cat. Sam's her mouse, Try again." She stated, and I bit my bottom lip thinking.

"Only when it comes to Sam. She's oblivious." I admitted. "I've been in his mind. I know what he thinks, and how he thinks of her. Even before she became pregnant with Josh or Daniel, Sam constantly has this look like he is waiting for her to go back to him."

"Oh." Was all Camilla says.

"I know that your advice is to give Leah the ultimatum and pray for the best, but I can't."

"Then tell Sam to stay away from her. If you can't find it in yourself to claim what is yours, then be ready to lose her. He has no right to pursue her, she's yours."

I snorted. "Trust me, if I lose anything it's my dignity. Not Leah."

She laughed. "Leah is your dignity. She has all the power."

"No, she doesn't. I own the house and the cars. The money." I disagreed.

"Really? That's power to you?"

"Well, materially."

"Is that why you're so helpless and enraged? Or is it just sexual frustration? Because I know it's not your personality. She has all the power." Camilla states.

"No. My frustration comes from being lied to for days and being labeled as weak."

"You are weak if you're willing to sit back, and let the love of your life slip in the arms of a person you hate most. How do you think your kids would feel?"

I sighed, walking over to my desk chair to sit.

I don't know how many times I have thought of how bad things could get.

Was I jinxing myself, or was it only a hunch of always seeing Sam larking around?

"I used to wonder how it would be if I was the only one, but here, this constant competition that I can't win." I confessed.

In the past it was clear that Bella loved Edward more than she cared for me. At least with Leah.. the love has been different. Years ago after she told me that Sam wasn't the reason she moved away, I knew it was because her feelings for me grew. I just never believed I deserved someone so beautiful, intelligent and fierce.

"Things have always been different with Leah. Our parents have been friends since they were young. My mom died I sat with Leah and Seth everyday after school. We barely talked, but when Embry and Quil started joining us… the pain was bearable. Few years later it was like instantly Leah became my Beta, and then from there she was the one I learned to care about most. Even when Renesmee was my imprint, I had-"

"Genuine feelings for her?" Camilla said, cutting me off.

I sighed. "Yeah. That's why I know that Sam's a threat. Having an imprint may fog what's underneath, but it doesn't erase any other bond."

"Jacob, I think you need to go talk to her. Leah's relationship with Sam cannot compare to yours. Even if it isn't physical, she still has feelings in some way. So go listen to her, if there's really nothing going on she'll try to tell you again. You just have to hear what she says."

I nodded, already acknowledging that. "That's going to be hard."

"If it was easy, you wouldn't like the outcome." She clarified.

"Guess you're right about that."

"Yes, well I better get going. Hope everything works out for you." Camilla smiled.

"Yeah… me too." I mumbled, as she turned for the door.

*End of Flashback*

...

*Couple hours later*

Sarah Black Pov

At Hazel's favorite underage nightclub, I felt a bit out of place here.

"I can't believe you cut your hair." Ethan said breathlessly walking up from behind me.

I laughed. "Yep. Do you like it? I needed a change." I smiled. "When Hazel and I were getting ready I saw this shampoo commercial and this girl had a pixie cut. I knew I had to have the same."

"Wow, well it's different alright."

"What does that mean?"

"Nothing. Nothing." Ethan says, shaking his head. "Can I get you a drink?" He asked, sitting beside me by the bar.

"No, I don't drink." I said as the bartender looked at me.

"Don't worry. Not that type of drink." Ethan smiled, placing his hand on my knee, then lifted it quickly, turning his body towards the bartender. "Two cans of Ginger Ale." He said and the guy nodded.

I wondered how many times he had been here with his brother Levi. As far as I know this club hasn't been here for long, I'm guessing only two or three years.

I peeked over at Levi who was dancing wild with Hazel on the dance floor. It's always nice watching her have fun. With Daniel gone for so long, she tries to hide the fact that she's sad inside. I'm actually surprised she's dancing instead of hiding in the corner somewhere video chatting with my brother.

I could also say the same for myself. In a strange world I wouldn't be here sitting in a club I'm too young to be at. In a perfect world I would be at home on my couch watching sci-fi flicks with Embry. Yeah, in a perfect uncomplicated world.

Life now, I'm here beside Ethan who isn't so bad though he's no Embry.

Safe to say Hazel and I are both in the same boat, almost.

"I like that you decided to come." Ethan raises his voice over the now loud song. "You should come out more often." He meant with him.

"You know Hazel is basically my sister?" I practically yelled over the party music. "My brother imprinted on her, Levi doesn't have a chance." I said warningly.

Ethan laughed. "Yeah, right Levi has a better chance with Hazel as I do with you." He smirked. "Don't worry about them. They're just friends."

I shook my head. "For her maybe, but he's single and very...flirtatious." I said not really speaking of Hazel and Levi.

"Trust, if what Daniel and Hazel have is real…. Nothing will come between them. Not even some guy who is too old for her." He said as our drinks were placed right in front of us.

Looking away from him to sip on my soda I wondered if Embry was to leave me here alone, would I have to give Ethan a chance.

I see that he's into me, and from the way he placed his hand on my leg it was obvious that he just had to touch me. Like it was killing him all day or something.

For Sam's son, he's okay-looking in the attraction department, yet I'm already wishing he was Embry.

Embry is always so serious, all the time. It's rare that he spits vulgar jokes or entertains teenage stuff.

Ethan on the other hand is so blunt and clownish.

Not that I'll want that all the time, but what I really would love is for Embry not to be all doom and gloom all the days of his life. I'm so unsure if he was always that way or if being a shapeshifter has a lot to do with it.

"I like you Sarah. We've known each other since birth, but have not really learned of one another. When you left my house the other day I couldn't stop thinking about you. Not because you're pretty wild… but because you're cool." Ethan said sentimentality.

I blushed before I smiled. "So you don't think i'm some poor pathetic loved sick kid?"

"Of course I do. Very pathetic… but still cool." He says.

"Thanks… I guess."

"For what?" He asked.

"Being a huge jerk ... but a friend. In a strange way I need it. With things with Embry up in the air it's hard thinking straight." I admirred.

"Let's make a rule." Ethan says, turning his entire body to face me. "When you're with me, don't talk about Embry."

I narrowed my eyes. "Why?"

"One, you talk about him too much. Two, no guy wants to hear a girl whine about anyone. Three, let's not base this friendship off of talk and pointless conversations."

I snorted. "Fine."

"Our new friendship is based on fun. So save the misery blah talk for Hazel's ears alright." He stated. "Now I'll be on the dance floor, drink your soda then come dance."

When Ethan got up to leave, I turned in my chair to finish my drink.

He was right, I talk about Embry way too much. I have to have a life without him.

Easier thought than actually falling through with it.

When my soda was all finished, I stood up to make my way to join Hazel.

"Hi." I heard a strange voice in my ear and I turned.

Standing beside me was a dark brown haired guy, no more than 5'feet tall.

The hair on the back of my neck stood. I stepped back to notice how black his eyes were and how pale his skin is.

Vampire.

"I apologize. Rude of me to stand so close." He says, not taking his eyes off of mine. "Do you come here often?"

"Ah no, not really." I say, glancing around.

Since the club was located in Forks, there wouldn't be many wolves around to notice that a cold one was here.

"My name is Alec. What is yours?" He said with both hands in the pockets of his black trucker jacket. I've never seen him before.

"Sarah." I said fast.

"This may seem to be a strange thing to say in a place like this…" He said, glancing around. "I would love to take you out."

I laughed nervously.

His face stayed as still as his heartbeat.

I cleared my throat. "You're a vampire, you shouldn't be here."

"I'm new to town, I would like to be your friend." He said and goosebumps appeared on my arms.

"Um alright…" I said unsure what I should do.

I glanced over at Hazel, Ethan and Levi but they were nowhere to be found. The place where they were was now filled with unknown faces.

"I visited your high school once, however let's just say I did not fit in. I now attend Forks High." He said and I was curious as to why he was talking to me.

"Okay, and how was that?" I ask looking back into his eyes.

"Relocating was a huge change. I actually like how everyone is so open to vampires now, or should I say 'us cold ones'. Forks is a very lovely place. However, my sister isn't thrilled that we moved."

"Oh you have a sister." I said which wasn't really a question.

"Yes."

"Is she here?" I asked, glancing around the club.

"No. Not at the moment." Something about him was creepy, I mean other than his pale dead skin.

"Oh…" I muttered and instantly my vision got blurry.

"Would you like to dance or go somewhere to talk?" He asked.

I looked at him confused and a bit light-headed. "Not to be blunt, but it's weird looking at you. Not a good idea to go off with your kind alone." He looked at me confused. "A pale face, with a russet skin like me... you and I should not be seen….." I added.

"Clever girl. I'm aware of who and what your ancestors are. Times have changed. We would make great friends." He said and I felt bad about how desperate for company he seemed.

"You must don't have many friends around here-"

"All of my friends are dead. Seems you have lost yours in this small room. Would you like to come to my home?" He said cutting me off.

I took a step back cautiously. "I don't think so, I just met you."

He smiled. "That is correct."

Feeling dizzy, I held my hand to my head, "I have to go find my Hazel." I wasn't feeling too good. Maybe it was the music and lights, or the fact that I haven't eaten since the cafe food.

"Wait." He says grabbing hold of my arm hard.

Like a cold hard rock. "Ouch." Ripping my wrist free, and shoved him away.

He didn't move. His arms at his side.

"My apologies." He said completely stoned inside.

"Whatever. I'm leaving." Backing away I glared down, noticing black smoke rising from the floor.

Looking at Alec, the black smoke was in fact coming from his hands.

"SARAH!" I heard Embry's voice out of nowhere.

Looking around the room, all I saw was techno colors and unknown faces. "Embry?" I said low wondering if the voice was in my head.

"NO." Alec spoke with extreme fury, and before I knew it his hands were reaching for my neck.

I screamed, lifting my arms for protection.

...

Daniel Black Pov

"Welcome to Quillayute Airport. Local time is 9:02pm and the temperature is 51 degrees. You may unfasten your seat belt."

"Thank, Heavens." Mom said taking off her seat belt.

"Yes! Home sweet home." I whispered as mom gathered her half eaten snacks together.

"Call and see if Embry is asleep. I'm sure he won't mind picking us up." She said and I nodded right away.

"No problem." I muttered pulling my cell phone out of my jacket pocket.

Since Embry was one of the few people I called, his emergency number on my phone is number five. I hit the button and waited for the phone to start ringing.

"Sorry, the person you are trying to reach cannot be reached at the time. Please, leave a message after the beep." When the phone beeped, I redialed and the machine came on once more.

"Mom, his phone is off." I said as she stood from her seat, and the flight attendant came down the aisle.

"May I help with your luggage?" She asked and her bright red hair reminded me of Hazel. There were a lot of young girls with different colored hair in Japan who reminded me of my imprint.

"Yes, thank you." Mom said to her wiping crumbs off of her pants. "Those four bags right there."

"I'll call dad." I said getting to my feet.

"No, he's probably closing up the cafe for the night. Call Quil." She said and my phone started buzzing in my hand.

Looking at the caller-ID it read 'grandma Sue.

To my surprise she mostly calls on holidays or for reservation meetings. "It's grandma." I said, hitting the answer button, "Hello?" I said into the phone.

"Hey, Danny. I've been calling for an hour."

"Sorry, my phone was off. Mom and I just landed."

"Landed? Landed where? Something has happened? Where are you? You have to come home. Can I speak to Leah?" She said frantically.

"Of course." I said hitting the speaker button on the phone. "Mom." I said as she was already staring at me.

"What's going on?" Mom asked clear enough for grandma Sue to understand.

"Grandma? Go ahead, mom can hear you." I say.

"I'm at the hospital with Jacob and Embry. Both Joshua and Sarah are also here from vampire attacks. Seems like the remaining members of the Volturi, Jane and Alec are in town. Joshua got into a car accident and was brought here by Jacob and Embry, who were on their way to the cafe. Joshua must have shifted and lost control of the car. I'm unsure of what really happened. As for Sarah she was out with friends when Alec attacked her. Embry got there in time except Sarah suffered a minor arm injury trying to escape."

"Oh my... no." Mom said running her hands through her hair, completely upset. "Come get us now. We're at the airport." She said to the phone then turned to exit the airplane.

"Grandma, we're gathering our bags now. We'll be waiting." I said hoping Joshua and Sarah were alright.

"I'm on my way." She replied.

"Alright, see you soon." I said and she hung up the phone without saying another word.

Just as I stepped out of the airplane the air hit me. It was a bit warmer here than in Tokyo. Suddenly, I wondered what Hazel was doing this very second.

I should call her and tell her that I'm home. I should call and let her know that something has happened to Sarah. Which begs the question… Why would Sarah be out on a school night alone? What friends was she with?

I looked over as mom took her seat inside right by the door and the flight attendant brought her bags to her feet.

"Are you okay?" I asked even though I knew she had to be worried sick.

"No. Not at all." She shook her head slowly. "I knew something one day was bound to happen. I was just counting down the years."

"Mom, don't worry. Josh and Sarah will be alright. The wolves will catch those who tried to harm them, I know it."

Mom didn't say anything else and I knew she was both furious and frightened. I didn't know much of the Volturi, except for the rumors I grew up hearing around the Reservation.

I'm also only familiar with the names of Jane and Alec due to my mother's book.

I can only pray that the rest of our La Push family will be safe against anymore attacks that might come.

Embry Call Pov

"Hey, Can I go back now?" Jacob asked one of the nurses walking through the motion doors.

"Sorry, Mr. Black. Not right now, we have to get permission from the chief of staff before allowing anyone back after visiting hours. It's hospital protocol."

Jacob growled, punching the walk. The nurse jumped back, then turned and walked towards the back.

I felt his pain.

"Hey. Come on." I said, grabbing his shoulder, turning him to face me. "We have to chill out. They're still resting."

"Don't you think you know that?"

"Then chill." I stated.

"I can't leave them on their own, those bloodsuckers will be back and once they are-"

"And once they are they'll pay, but right now if the nurses feel any more pressure they'll be kicking our butts outta here." I clarified.

He shook his head and took a seat. "This is all my fault. I should have seen this coming. I should have been with them." He says.

"Jake, you would have to have been in five places at once if so. No one could have seen this coming."

"Josh was one thing… Jane attacked him with her ability from afar." He stated.

"We don't know that, he could have pulled over and then realized what she was and started to shift while driving. Who knows." I say.

"I saw the car. He was driving. Just like my mother, he could have died. He could be dead, and Sarah…. What the hell was she doing at that club? If we wouldn't have found Josh in time Sarah would be-"

"Don't think like that, Jake. All that matters is that we got to them in time. They're safe now." I told him.

On our way to rush Josh to the hospital, we stopped by the house to make sure Caleb and Sarah were safe. Yet, Caleb was home alone and Sarah was nowhere to be found. When I phoned Haylie to see if Sarah was spending the night with her daughter Hazel, Haylie told me they were at a dance club with Sam's kids.

"Until when? This is all my fault. I knew none of this was over. No matter where I turn I can never escape a bloodsucker. You know you can't leave right?" He said glaring at me. "We have to protect her. We have to protect the Reservation, even if that means me shifting again. I won't let them win, I have too much to lose now." Jacob said, looking me right in the eyes.

"Of course, I'm not going anywhere. I can't even think about that. None of us will be safe until every cold, hard bloodsucking parasite is buried." I agreed with him on the phasing part.

I hadn't shifted in two years until tonight, for him it has been way longer.

When I shifted tonight, it actually felt amazing. The first person who was already in their wolf-form was Quil.

Quil was patrolling First Beach on Sam's orders, I had let him know that Jane from the Volturi got through the borders. The second I saw Sarah at that night club I instantly felt her fear and panic.

"I'm with you, no matter what." I said and Jacob put his head in his hands.

For as long as I've known him he was the bud with the weight of the world on his shoulders, it was never fair but he always took it like a champ. I hate that this has to happen to him. To us.

"Jacob?" We both heard a familiar voice and we looked over at the main doors.

I was very exhausted, Leah rushed towards us and shock hit me like a million bricks on how she was here and not across the planet.

"Leah?" Jacob breathed standing to his feet.

"Jacob, Where are they?" She said, rushing into his arms.

"Sleeping, the doctors kicked us out. We have to wait for visiting hours to begin in the morning." I said,

Jacob embraced her warmly, he ran his hand through her hair. "What are you doing here?

"Daniel and I were homesick. I want to see Joshua and Sarah." Leah says.

I sighed in relief that she was back. Early, but back.

I wonder if she was told the whole story about how the last two remaining members of the Volturi wanted revenge.

"Have you spoken to them? Sarah or Josh?" Leah asked, glancing at me then looking back at Jacob.

"Not yet." I answered. "Josh was awake for a bit but not long."

"I can't believe this happened." She says low.

"I know, and I can't believe you're here." Jacob says, wrapping his around her body as she stood in front of him upset. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming home?"

"It's a long story. I'll tell you later."

"We have nothing but time. Sit, talk." He said not allowing her to move out of his arms.

"No. not now, Jacob." She said, removing his arms from her waist. "I have to go see Sarah. What were you thinking about allowing her to go to some out in the first place?" She said moving away from him towards the nurses station.

If she's upset about that, wait until she sees what Sarah did to her hair.

Without replying Jacob turned towards me confused. I shrugged as he looked behind me towards the main entrance.

I glanced over as Daniel came through the hospital doors.

"Daniel." Jacob called to him.

"Hey, Dad, Embry. How are they?"

"So far ..Alive. Resting." I said, hugging him and Jacob stepped over just as Daniel held out his arms to him.

"Hey, Dad. How are you?"

"Fine. Is your mom-"

"Sorry, you know mom. Worry-wort. Where did she go?" Daniel said cutting him off already knowing something strange was up with Leah.

"Went to go see them, but visiting hours are over and don't restart until the morning. They won't let us back." I said to him, but it was clear that Leah disappeared to find a nurse.

"Don't worry, I fixed that. You guys can go see them now, just be quiet." Kelly said, walking towards us out of nowhere.

With her strawberry blonde highlighted hair, and oval skin, she placed her hands in her scrub pockets.

I had almost forgotten that she was chief of staff here, this is actually where she met Billy years ago.

I glanced at Jacob who had looked at his step-mom questionably.

"Honestly, everything is alright. You guys can go on back. Leah went to Sarah." Kelly said.

"Thank you, grandma Kelly." Daniel gave her a hug.

Since birth that boy always had manners.

We all nodded, Jacob and I not saying a word and headed straight back to where Leah disappeared to.

"Oh and Jacob?" Kelly called and for some reason we all paused as Jacob did to look at Kelly.

"What?" Jacob mumbled.

"Your daughter shifted moments ago, you have another child with the wolf-gene." She faked a smile at him.

"Holy crap!" I mouthed, turning racing towards Sarah's room with Jacob and Daniel.

Kelly still wasn't fond of wolves. I bet she can only hope Keira, her only daughter she shares with Billy- doesn't have the gene.

I wonder how Sarah is going to feel about this.
