Embry Call Pov

*Flashback*

Running through the woods in my wolf-form towards the first beach.

I stopped claws first when I smelt him.

Embry! Jared thought and I knew he was close by.

You have a hold of it? His stench is all over! Where is it? I asked, knowing he had to be closer to the vampire than I was.

It's on first beach. It's talking to someone. I'm too far away and I can't see. I'm headed there now, I'll meet you. He thought.

No wait. We need back-up, you should phase and tell Sam and the others. I thought.

Dude, no way. If I do that the vamp will be gone. Where are you?

I just left my house, I'm getting closer. I thought back to him. I was faster than he cared to admit.

Oh no. Jared exclaimed.

What? What's going on?

It's Haylie. Haylie is talking to the pale face. He has long hair. Dude, I thought you said she was hanging out with Leah today?

Wait a second did he say a long haired leech? She wouldn't be caught dead with a leech if she didn't know him, and far as I know she only knew of one. Her father.

Don't attack. Jared, trust me. He's her family. Don't attack him.

What? He was confused.

Seriously. I thought to him. The vampire she's talking to is her father.

Wow. She's seriously hugging him. He said and through his eyes I saw it.

With long black wavy hair and thin build stood Theseus, Haylie's father from Alaska.

Jared, try not to get too close. He may sense you and make a run for it. I thought to him.

Duh, I would rather not get closer to that thing anyhow, unless I can kill it. He thought back.

As I got closer to First Beach, Jared perched down beneath some trees.

"Aiden is Noah's half-sister." Haylie's father said to her.

"Yes, I know."

"She isn't what she seems." Theseus stated.

"What do you mean?" Haylie asked him.

"Aiden is working with Nahuel." He says. Nahuel is a half human, half vampire. He is also Aiden and Noah's father. Our enemy who we should've put an end to years ago.

"How do you know that?" Haylie asked her father.

I slowed to a stop reaching the beginning of the beach, the dark gray around Jared's eyes never left the leech as I approached. His short, thick, brown fur blended in well with the tree branches.

"Because Haylie, I've been around vampires all these years, and now that I know more, you cannot continue to stay here. It isn't safe."

"Dad, it's alright. The wolves are my family. It's our duty to protect La Push."

"Haylie, You have to come with me. We can go anywhere you want." He smelled of desperation.

l cannot believe Haylie's father is a bloodsucker. Jared thought to me.

He wasn't always this way. Theseus had the wolf-gene when he was a teenager, and then he married Haylie's mother before she died. I thought to Jared.

Haylie was in high school when her father was turned by his new vampire girlfriend. Soon Haylie first shifted; she was sent here to join Sam's pack, yet instead she joined Jacob's. Well, whatever was left of Jacob's pack.

Theseus once was close to Old Quil.

"No. I'm not going anywhere. What are the other vampires planning?" Haylie asked him.

"I can't say. They already know I'm here. If you don't hear from me in a while, then you know what happened."

"Don't say that, Dad. Don't even think like that. You can stay here with me, the pack will keep you safe."

The hell we will. Jared said growling.

Shut up. No growling. I thought. Don't let him know we're here.

"Haylie. Listen to me." Her father said.

"Why? How do you expect me to even think about leaving? Just stay here."

"People will die."

"No. No one is going to die." She argued.

"They will. I know you have become close with Noah and Aiden, but they both made a deal with Nahuel. They are young, his children no matter what."

"What type of deal?" Haylie asked.

"I myself made a similar deal, except I couldn't hold up my end."

"Dad, what type of deal?" She repeated.

"Same deal that Aiden and Noah made with Nahuel. Safety." He says, whispering the last word.

Why would half-blood-leeches make deals with their own father? Jared thought merely to himself.

"What is it?" Haylie pressed. "Safety? Of what?"

"The deal I made was for you, whenever they decide to attack... they won't touch the hair on your head." He said.

"Attack? Vampires are going to attack the reservation?"

"Sooner or later. Yes." He replied.

"No. That can't be. If Aiden or Noah knew of some attack they would have told me." She said slowly shaking her head in disbelief.

Seems like the rumors were true bro. Jared thought to me. Looks like Haylie has been sneaking around with the half-leech after all. He thought and I still didn't want to believe it, thinking back to all the days Haylie said she felt bad that he and Aiden were alone. Noah and Haylie have been having secret meetings.

"You don't know them as well as you think, Haylie. Don't trust Aiden and don't trust Noah. They're very good at pretending with everything. They aren't innocent." He dad warned her.

"I don't believe you." She said, continuing to shake her head.

"You must. For your own safety here. My deal was made to protect you. Noah's deal was to protect Aiden. Aiden's deal is to protect Leah. She only loves Leah, but she won't help protect her entire family."

"I can't believe that." Haylie muttered.

"I have to go, I have stayed much longer than I should."

"How will I know when they'll come? What should I do?" Haylie asked.

"Leave." He said to her and I growled.

Who is he to come here and tell her to leave us for dead?

Vampires dude. They are cold to the core. Jared thought. That's why it's up to us to kill them all.

"No! I can't go because this is my home." Haylie said.

The leech glared in Jared and my direction, then back at Haylie.

Knew he had to have seen us. Jared thought to me.

"Dad?"

"I love you, Haylie." He said, then he was gone. Just in that second Jared took off in the direction of the leech.

Where are you going? I thought.

To follow where he's heading so I can report his location back to Sam. No doubt Forks is his destination. He thought back.

Looking at Haylie, she stood there in the same spot. When she sat on the ground, I shifted into human form and unwrapped my shorts from my ankles.

I can imagine how alone she feels, having her father constantly be absent but the fact that she hid her club-meetings with Noah and Aiden really pissed me off.

Quickly putting on my pants, I walked towards her.

Stopping to stand behind her, she instantly turned to look.

"Embry?" She was surprised to see me.

"Expecting your half-leech?"

She turned her head. "It's not like that."

"Sure. You can stop lying. We overheard everything."

"Who's we?" She glanced around.

"The pack." I said even though it was only Jared and me. "Surprise you didn't see them go after him. One by one he'll lead them to The Big Bad."

"Liar." She said standing on her feet.

"Well you would know wouldn't you? Take one to know one."

"I didn't lie to you, Embry. All the times that Noah came to me, I told you."

"Whatever, Haylie. I'm so over this." I stated.

Her and I are constantly hot then cold, it's exhausting.

"What the heck does that mean?"

"It means I'm done." I say fast.

"What?" She said lost. "What are you talking about?"

"Us." I almost yelled. "This relationship. I can't do it anymore. I'm miserable. I can't pretend that I'm satisfied with being with you, because I'm not. We're better off."

"I can't believe this." She whispered. "I can't believe you."

"Come on Haylie, we both knew that this wasn't going to last."

"Are you seriously breaking up with me? Did you not just hear what my dad just said to me?"

"I heard him loud and clear." I say without remorse.

She snorted. "Is this a test? To see if I pick you over him? Because you don't have to be jealous."

"No test Haylie." I said, shaking my head. "This is me saying it's over. Our relationship is over. I don't want to abandon you, but I cannot stand here doing anything else."

My mother never liked Haylie, and I always felt bad that when she got sick with cancer that I wasn't always there to help her. But instead I continued to stay with Haylie because I didn't want her to be alone, and I didn't want to be lonely either.

"You suck." She yelled. "Do what you want. I don't care either." She adds.

Turning around to head back the way I came, I didn't feel bad for her. She will be just fine without me.

"You know, the hardest thing about knowing that you never loved me, is that you spent too much time pretending that you did and I hate you for that." She said and I paused, staring down at red cones in the dirt.

I knew she was hurt, but it hurt me more to stay with her. I didn't love her, and I don't think I ever truly did.

"Well now you know I don't. So you can move on." We both needed to.

"I hate you." She repeated as I continued walking.

"Good. Have a nice life with your vampire boyfriend." I retorted back.

Leah Clearwater Pov

*Flashback*

In Seattle with Sam, I glared out the Café window. Watching as the traffic-lights turned from green to yellow then red, over and over and over again.

Years ago, when Joshua was only seven months old, Jacob and I once came here for a comic book convention. We didn't really care for it like everyone else, but it was something new to do. We had fun.

The entire weekend, all I could think about was if Billy and Seth were overwhelmed with babysitting an infant alone. Those days were beautiful, and fast paced at the same time- but Jacob had a way of finding every solution to any problem for me. He and I truly took care and one another.

"You okay?" Sam asked from across the table, and I turned my head to look at him. He was dressed as if he was headed to a business meeting.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I stated.

"You sure?" He asked, tilting his head to the side concerned. "Earlier you were happy, now you seem like something's bothering you."

I sighed, shaking my head, not wanting to say a word.

"You're thinking about Jacob?"

"No." I lied.

"Then what?" He asked.

I sighed. "I don't know, Have you ever felt like you're taking everything for granted?" I asked.

He narrowed his eyes confused. "How so?"

"Everything, this air, food, our homes, family?" I asked.

"No." He said honestly, shaking his head. Of course he doesn't, he has no guilt about sneaking behind Emily's back. Yet I do. No matter how selfish Jacob acts, he has always included me in all of his future plans. There was never a time that he thought to make a decision excluding me, and here I am having hush brunch-time with my ex-boyfriend who clearly still has feelings for me.

"Why? Do you think you have?" He asked.

"In a major way, yes. Without a doubt I'm taking it all for granted, and just now realizing how great Jacob and I were. Back then, it was all so new, yet very familiar loving him." I nodded.

"I think when you get into certain habits nothing else is important. Such as self-care. Somewhere along the line you forgot about you, Leah." Sam states.

"I'm at this point where I don't care for anything important and the tiniest things annoy the heck out of me. So, maybe that is true." I stated.

"That sounds like mood-swings, which you already had. That's not taking everything for granted." He smirked.

"It is… when I don't care if a bus happens to swerve off the road and come straight towards us, killing us instantly for sneaking behind our families back."

"Oh. That-bad huh?" He said wide eyed.

I snorted. "It's an ongoing weary feeling. You don't feel guilty?"

"No, and maybe you should take Aiden up on her suggestion for a getaway." He says, taking a sip of his coffee.

I rolled my eyes. "Like that'll ever happen."

"Make it happen." He says seriously.

Sam's always been Mr. mellow-maturely since birth, It's nice to see he hasn't lost anything due to his father not being around his entire life. Things like that affect people, but not him. It's a good thing.

"I can't leave my family, they need me."

"What about Jacob? Do you think he's taking everything you two have for granted?" He asked.

"Definitely not. The only error that frustrates him is me not kissing him goodbye every morning, like I used to when we first moved in together." I mumbled.

"Well, maybe you should call him and you know... talk and tell him about these last few weeks." He suggested and I narrowed my eyes.

"Why? So he can kill us both? All I have to do is mention you once and then there he goes, back down that road that lends me defending myself all over again?" I shook my head. "No thanks, I'd rather not. You, of all people know what he thinks. These little sneak-aways stay between us."

"Fine by me, because the look he gives me at each council meeting explains plenty."

"Not even half of it. Then again after what you said that night of Billy's engagement party, will remain branded in Jacob's mind forever."

"Ah don't remind me, I'm still kicking myself about that. I wasn't thinking." Sam says.

"As long as it does not happen again, because I'll make it clear again that I don't want you in that way. We will never be more than friends. High school sweetheart once, yet no more. I love Jacob. I've always been in love with him, since the moment I broke free of your pack. I never felt the way I feel with him for any one, mainly you. No matter what bridge we cross or don't, It'll always be him." I said, picking up my cup of tea to take a sip.

"I am more well aware of your love for Jacob, we all shared a mind once and on numerous occasions. I had a moment of weakness at one point. I've had a long time to rethink my emotions and feelings for you, Lee. I also remember a while ago when I invited you guys to dinner with Emily and I, Jacob sulked the entire night making it clear he had other places to be." He said amused.

I didn't say anything while taking another sip of my tea.

"You and Jacob have to work most things out, I will never get in the way of that or anything. Joshua will survive with or without school, it's up to you to decide if you're ready to allow him to grow up." He said, taking a sip off his coffee with an eyebrow raised.

I nodded. "Enough about my home life, How is yours?" I asked him.

"Emily doesn't say anything but I can feel that she holds onto the guilt. Amy talks about you nonstop and sometimes it gets under her skin." He said looking down at his hands on the table and I bit my upper lip.

Of course it's nice to know how Sam's first-born is a little more fond of me, so much that it makes Emily's skin crawl.

Yet, I cannot find the pleasure in the fact that they never truly moved on. Not in the way I have with Jacob.

Sam and Emily are never a topic in my household, we in fact haven't spoken or thought about the past with them in years. Even with them living down the road.

"The only two that constantly go head to head in the house are Claire and Amy." He says.

"Sibling rivalry." I noted.

"I know, but at first it was Claire who was acting really strange and moody, not to mention when she couldn't attend dance school late at night. If it wasn't for Quil she would be repeating the same grade over again. It's hard for her to stay focused."

"What about Amy, is she following in Claire's footsteps?" I asked.

"Just a tab bit. She's obsessed with that Shane kid, losing interest in modeling and putting interest in crime shows." He mumbled.

"She's getting older, Sam. Three years older than Josh. Not to mention she's a young lady. Either with modeling or playing detective, we carry more issues than the mind can handle." I smirked. "To us a pimple on prom night is hell on fire, forgetting all about a little creation called makeup."

"I don't think I'm ever going to understand that. You know the new wolf Savannah? I get a glance in her mind more and more each day, but still can't figure out what she talks about all day long. I'm getting a headache now, just thinking about it." He says, and I burst out laughing.

"I can only imagine. Teenagers are scary, and there's no difference with the wolf-gene." I say.

"Anyway, You told Jake that you wanted to quit the shop huh?" He said changing the subject back to Jacob.

I instantly inhaled.

"Yes, of course he didn't get it. It's hard sometimes for him to understand how I feel."

"Leah, trust me when Jacob takes a step back to get a clear view of everything... he'll comprehend. Try handing everything to him slowly. With Josh, and the school thing going on- He may be feeling the pressure."

"Well I'll make sure to make it clear later on tonight that I'm not trying to make things hard for him." I stated.

"Or maybe you could do both. Come with me to the Makah tribe. It doesn't have to be everyday, just on certain days. I'll set up a couple of meetings for us to do some charity work. Then when you're not doing that you could work at the shop."

I shook my head.

"You're not getting it. I can't see myself fixing cars for the rest of my life. It was just a hobby to do with Jacob. If anything Joshua and Daniel are more likely to take-over that shop. I want a good career, not someone else's dream job."

The crazy thing is I was alright in the beginning when Daniel Camlens decided to let Jacob be the owner.

"Like I've said a million times, I have to find something for me."

"I get it. You haven't found your passion." He smiled. "Lee.. If you take time out from being a mother to find out what you love, I'm happy to help. In fact, let's just go job hunting and look at the paper for events around the area."

I shrugged. "I don't know, I don't need more tasks."

"Hey, if Jacob or anyone is too wrapped-up to notice you need a change.. Then I'm stepping up." Sam says, taking a sip from his cup.

"Right, because no one in the world cares what interests I may or may not have other than you." I mocked.

"Whichever. You already put yourself down that dejected road, and it's not healthy."

"Fine, then what should I do?" I said, rolling my eyes.

"Focus on your talent. Everything else will work itself out."

"That's the thing. A talent... I have not." I said taking another sip of my tea that was now cold.

"Well, you were always great in art and baking classes."

"Maybe the dream I had yesterday was a sign. Maybe Jacob, the boys and I, should move away from here." I stated. "I never planned for us to be here this long, anyway."

"Lee, you can't just sum up a bunch of solutions to a problem that you really don't want to deal with. Moving is not going to fix much."

"Why not? Since I can't fly all the way to Italy with Aiden, then maybe me and the kids should go to Makah Reservation. I've been meaning to visit Jeremiah for some time now. Other than Billy, Jeremiah is the closest thing I have to a father. We can live down the road from him." I suggested.

"Visiting Jeremiah, yes that's better but picking up and leaving... no. Not to mention I don't think Jacob would want to do that."

"Well it's not really up to Jacob, Now is it?" I snapped back.

"No. I guess not " He mumbled. "You can always shift and come running with me."

I laughed.

"You must be really desperate with these leeches running around, huh?" I stated as he just wanted me to help kick bloodsucker butt.

He laughed, or he just wanted to get in between Jacob and I by wanting to share something together.

"You loved when you phased before, you can do it again. Don't take the power to shift for granted like you do everything else." He mocked, but I could hear the desperation deep in his voice.

I bit down on my lower lip. "What's the point?"

"That point is to run so fast that you think you're flying, and not care if you'll make dinner just in time for everyone to walk through the door." He smirked.

I laughed. "When have I ever cared about timing dinner?" I retorted.

"Never, though that's not the point." He laughed.

I smirked. "No. Joshua keeps bothering me about school and Jacob constantly backs him up. I know Charlie wants to tell Jacob about this field he came across in Forks for another shop I think, but for what reason I have no idea. That would make an even bigger issue, Don't you think?"

"Billy told me about that. If you ask me ...either wouldn't be so bad." Sam shrugged his shoulders.

I narrowed my eyes confused. "If Jacob was to start working in Forks, that would mean him never being home." I stated.

"Isn't that what you want? Jacob not being home means Joshua being more obedient. How beautiful would that feel?" He says.

"As much as I would love for Jacob not to give-in to Josh, it doesn't mean I want him gone more."

"Either way it goes, with Jacob and Josh you're not going to be the vanquisher here."

"What does that mean?" I laugh.

"Just give in. More reason to forget all the crap, and phase with me." He smirked. "I know you're used to being the Captain of your bionic ship, but maybe you should let what I said yesterday and this morning sink-in. I know you have this plan to keep the kids home until they reach the proper age for high school, though you can't be in charge for that long. It can really be liberating just to lay your head down without worrying about everything." He stated.

"Basically, you're saying to stop being so uptight and let everyone walk all over me?" I said in a polite tone.

"No. No. I didn't say that, and I don't think you're uptight. Jacob does." He says pointing to himself. "Everyone knows the key to a successful relationship is that the female is always right."

"In your case keep the imprintee happy, Right?" I mocked.

"Right." He nodded.

"Though a guy shouldn't have to imprint to have the want to keep the person they love happy." He said, faking a smile.

"If the shoe was on the other foot, and Emily was all of a sudden Jacob?"

"And your kids were my kids?" Sam continued.

"What would you say?" I finished.

"The same exact thing. Let your boys be boys." He stated. "Of course things get exhausting and boring, though that doesn't say anything about anyone else. It's you. There's this problem that has been here for weeks, only Jacob is just now catching on. I see it and pretty soon so will others." He added.

"What do you mean? You lost me." I said, shaking my head.

"We agreed years ago to be friends, and reestablished today... We can be honest with each other. I mean if you're bored, I completely understand." He said, and of course I got it.

He thought I meant I was bored with Jacob. "I wouldn't push my luck, Sammy. I can easily go back to hating your guts." I said lifting my head propitiously. "I will never be bored of Jacob, I'm bored of never having anything else to do aside from being with him. I need my own identity."

"Well, hang with me. It will give me more chances of having meaningful and heart-wrenching conversations about our past." He jokes.

I sighed, seriously not wanting to even think of going down that road with him anymore. Just because Jacob imprint-bond broke doesn't mean it's possible for everyone.

"Leah?" I heard someone say behind me, and Sam looked over my shoulder.

I turned halfway around.

"Hey, Why didn't you tell me you were coming to Seattle?" Elena said, walking over to me.

Tall with light brown skin, she glowed as she tucked her hair behind her ear.

Behind her was her son Shane and husband Mason, who was very good friends with Joshua and Jacob.

"How's it going?" I said awkwardly, trying to smile happy to see her.

"I thought you were going to the studio?" She said then looked over at Sam.

"Hi, Sam." She said normally as if they were friends. Elena only knew him from the days he would stop by the yoga studio to pick up, Emily. Sometimes I took yoga in the mornings, as Emily would go in the early afternoons while Sam was on his work break. Emily would only wave, and smile in passing.

"Hey, Leah." Mason said, walking up behind Elena.

"Hey." I said then looked over at Shane who was quiet.

"Morning Shane." I smiled. He turns eleven years old in two weeks. He gave me a small wave. "Forgot how to talk?" I said tugging his shirt, he was only a year older than Josh.

"Hi." He mumbled.

"He's in a bad mood." Elena noted.

"Oh. Why?" I asked though I'm sure it's about the trip to the lake.

"Because I said I'll think about letting him share a room with Josh."

"Ah, I see. Well I'll remember that pouting face the next time you knock on my door then, huh." I said touching his curly black hair. "Looks like your due for another haircut, it's getting handsomely long."

"I was going to ask you to cut it yesterday, but I forgot." Shane mumbles.

"Okay, well we'll see you guys later on." Elena said, getting ready to leave.

"Alright, I'll call you right before I leave." I called her.

"Okay, talk to you then." She smiled and waved. "Bye, Sam."

"Bye." He said back.

Mason didn't say anything, he just kind of waved then walked towards the café exit.

Sam and I, waited quietly until they were fully gone.

"Remind me to kiss-up to that guy later." Sam joked while taking another sip of his coffee.

I laughed. "No need. The second Mason gets back to La Push he's telling Jacob about seeing us here. " I stated.

Sam nodded. "Great. Our cover is beyond blown. Though now you have a reason to phased, Momma-Leah." He smirked amused.

I rolled my eyes. I hate that nickname. "Time to get going." I said standing up.

"Now?" He asked.

"Yeah, maybe this was a sign that I shouldn't be here with you."

"Come on, we're friends. You can talk to me."

"No. You're my ex. It's not a good look and I respect Jacob too much to even continue like it's all hunky-dory. I'm obviously so desperate for company that I've come to you." I said, grabbing my bag from the back of the chair.

"Ouch." He said looking out the cafe window.

"Sorry, but you know I'm right." I said turning to leave, allowing him the honor of paying for brunch.
