Chapter 33: What's Going On, Meredith?

The day at the hospital was great, at least for Dawsyn. However, things were now completely different between himself and Meredith. So different that it felt like somebody had flipped a switch. They were still together but everything felt completely different.

"I made you some coffee..." Derek sighed, walking back into the living room with two mugs. Dawsyn was at school and Derek had the morning off work.

"Thanks." Meredith whispered.

"Yeah..."

"Hmm..." Meredith flipped on the television to the news.

"Do you want something to eat?" Derek asked, just trying to get her to talk.

"Nope."

"Okay..." Derek sighed.

"When do you have to go to work?"

"Why? Do you want me to leave?"

"I didn't say that, did I?"

"No. You didn't."

"Well then, I don't want you to leave." Meredith groaned.

"I work at four." Derek sighed.

"Okay."

"I can pick Dawsyn up if you want."

"She's staying the night at Sadie's." Meredith said, flipping the channel.

"Oh...Okay." Derek breathed, sitting back on the sofa.

"Do you just want...I mean we can just get to the sex part before you go to work."

"Seriously?"

"What?" Meredith hissed.

"Do you really think that I only come over here for sex?"

"No but that's just how this always goes."

"This?" Derek asked, raising his eyebrows.

"Whatever." Meredith turned the tv off, tossing the remote to the side before standing up.

"Where are you going?"

"To take a shower." She snapped, walking up the stairs.

"Just asking..." Derek muttered, picking up a magazine.

"If you don't want sex keep reading that magazine!"

"Yelling at me doesn't really scream that you want me."

"Taking a shower!" Meredith shouted. "Door...unlocked."

"Okay..." Derek groaned. He couldn't not go upstairs. But her yelling at him hadn't exactly turned him on. Either way, he followed her upstairs and into the bathroom.

"If you didn't want sex you didn't have to come in." She rolled her eyes, tossing the last of her clothing into the hamper.

"I didn't say I didn't want sex." He replied, shedding his clothing as well.

"Okay." Meredith rolled her eyes as she turned to look in the mirror.

"Okay." Derek whispered, wrapping his arms around her from behind.

"I'm just tired." Meredith whispered, looking at their reflection, as she leaned into him. "Tired and I just…I'm just tired."

"I know."

"I'm fine." She nodded, almost as if she was convincing herself more than him.

"I know..."

"Okay..." She nodded gently.

"But you still want sex?" He chuckled.

"I want you to get some before you have a very long shift."

"Hmm...Very nice of you."

"I'm a nice person...if you set aside the baby daddy drama and the whole failure thing."

"You're not a failure." Derek whispered, kissing her neck.

"How can you be okay with this?" She moaned, trying to keep her composure.

"I just am."

"Hmm...if that's what you…okay."

"Shower?"

"Counter..." Meredith turned in his arms.

"Really?" Derek smirked.

"You like it that way...if I remember correctly." She whispered, sitting back on the marble countertops, kicking the bathroom door shut.

"I do..." He smiled, kissing her hard.

"Mmm..."

"You're welcome."

"Hmm..."

"Yeah..." Meredith moved her lips away from his as she put her hands on his shoulders.

"Yeah..." Derek smiled, running his hands down her side.

"Hmm..." Meredith put her head down, running her toes along his thigh.

"Ohh..." Derek gasped, kissing her shoulder and then up to her neck.

"Let's just...yeah..." Meredith whispered, wrapping her hand along his length before pulling away.

"What?"

"Just...fuck..."

"I...yeah..." Derek whispered, sliding into her as she scooted to the edge of the counter.

"Oh Derek!" Meredith gasped, his hands clutching her ass and pulling her closer to him.

"Ohh..." He moaned, thrusting into her harder, burying his head in her shoulder.

"Derek..."

"Mmm..."

"Fuck..."

"Oh god..." Derek groaned, beginning to thrust into her faster and harder.

"Hmm..." Meredith moaned weakly, her eye focusing on the wall as Derek moved in and out of her. Her mind wasn't with him.

"Ohh..."

"Derek..." She whispered, her fingers lightly grazing his back.

"Meredith..." Derek frowned, keeping still inside of her, and looking at her.

"Just...finish...okay?" She whispered, tangling her hands in his hair.

"No..."

"Derek...finish." Meredith pleaded, rolling her eyes a little.

"I'm...No." Derek said, quickly, pulling out of her.

"Derek." Meredith groaned, looking down at his dying erection. "Just...come on..."

"You don't want this." He whispered.

"Derek..."

"I'm...I can't..." He said, pulling his pants back on.

"Just because I wasn't...you're so picky."

"No...You couldn't even look at me..."

"I'm...I'm looking at you now..." Meredith replied, hopping off of the counter.

"You weren't...before...and I just...What's going on?"

"What is that supposed to mean?" Meredith frowned.

"Are you angry with me for something?" Derek asked.

"Derek...no." Meredith shook her head, reaching for a bath towel.

"You're just...You're not being you." He whispered.

"I'm fine."

"I don't believe you..."

"I said I was fine, and I meant it." Meredith said quickly, turning on the bath water.

"Okay..." Derek sighed.

"You've been being weird ever since we left the hospital." She groaned, knowing he was right.

"Maybe I should just go to work."

"If that's what you want to do then fine."

"Are you really fine?" He asked, watching her.

"I don't know...I just...my head is foggy or something." Meredith replied, stepping in to the bathtub. "I just...it's a lot."

"What's a lot?"

"Everything...Daws...I just wasn't expecting her to be okay with everything and I don't think...I don't know."

"Okay."

"I'm sorry." She frowned.

"It's okay."

"She just wants things." Meredith sighed.

"Things that make you want to not be with me?"

"I didn't say that."

"You're just...not the same. We're not the same."

"Yes, we are..."

"Let's just talk tonight..."

"I'm going out." Meredith said quickly.

"Okay."

"You're working all night so I'm going out with my friends."

"That's fine...I'm not saying you can't."

"I know." Meredith hissed.

"I'll call you tomorrow then...I just think...I should go."

"If you want to." Meredith rolled her eyes, a hand resting on the side of the bathtub.

"I think I should."

"Well, if you catch a break at work...I'll be at Joes." Meredith closed her eyes.

"Okay." Derek whispered.

"Oh, if you get here tomorrow before I do...remind Dawsyn to clean her room."

"I will."

"And you're leaving now?" Meredith asked, looking up at him.

"I...Yeah...But I'll see you at the bar."

"You will?" She looked up, a small hint of a smile evident on her face.

"Yeah...I will." He smiled weakly.

"Okay." She whispered as he knelt down next to the bathtub.

"We're going to be okay." He whispered, reaching for her hand.

"Hmm..." Meredith whispered. "I know...Dawsyn's just...she's really okay with this and she wants things. It boggles my mind, which sounds crazy but...I'm just tired."

"I know." Derek replied. "I know...But we're going to be okay...I promise."

"Okay."

"I'll see you later."

"Okay." Meredith kissed him quickly.

"Call me, okay?" Derek smiled, kissing her again.

"Yeah."

"Okay…Bye..."

"Bye." Meredith sighed, watching him leave the bathroom, before sliding under the bath water, drenching her hair before she came back up, gasping slightly. She was okay, she was just tired. Derek had no reason to worry.
