Battle of Paris
Paris - French Republic - 6:34am CEST - July 10 1989
Outside the City of Light, a droid force of 40,000 moved north to meet the first wave of attackers, not knowing the main force was swinging around to assault the city from its south. The southern force consolidated and began to move north, attacking the first defenses.
The southern defenders, caught off guard, quickly radioed for help as the first few lines of droid defenders fell, the Terrans and clones making their way into the city. In the north, the confused droids began to realize what was going on, racing back south towards Paris. The Terrans and their clone allies succeeded in taking much of Southern Paris, with the goal of capturing the President's palace in the central city.
The main droid force began to funnel into the city, as the call went out for all droid forces in Paris to move south and engage the attackers. The two forces began to clash throughout Paris's tight and winding streets, the brutal urban warfare taking the lives of hundreds of innocents. Bombs crashed over the city, destroying roads and buildings, killing droids, civilians, and attackers.
Droid AAT tanks tried to navigate the French capital's streets, often getting stuck in the tight side roads, or bashing through storefronts and apartments with their wide frames. An incoming heavy rainstorm was beginning to take a toll on both forces, with vision being blurred, making navigation through the city much harder. Leading the charge was Obi-Wan, Jason, and Anakin, with clones from both the 501st and 212th. Along with them was Rommel, Hall and Bell. Rommel fired off his M16 while Hall and Bell loaded their sniper rifles. Obi-Wan, Jason and Anakin were slashing at droids, being covered by the bullets and blaster shots of a group of Americans, Germans, and clones.
The Eiffel Tower could be seen on the horizon, its iconic image tainted by the massive CIS flag flying from it. A group of 600 Frenchmen made an inroad towards the tower, with the goal of capturing it and raising the French tricolor as a symbol of hope to the Parisian people. However, making the mistake of abandoning the central invasion led to these Frenchmen being cut down, the last of them screaming "Vive La France!" before he perished.
The droids from the north were finally starting to reach the actual attack force, leading to more hellish urban warfare. Obi-Wan led his force deeper into the City of Light as the USAF and Luftwaffe used a tactical bombing campaign to take out key CIS vehicles and droid units. By now, the Terrans and their clone allies held much of southern Paris, parts of central Paris, and were now within miles of the President's palace. The droids, meanwhile, held the north, east, west, and most of the central city, and were now moving reinforcements around the center to hold the palace.
Hopes of a quick victory were dashed as the mass force -around 100,000 droids- garrisoned the palace, deeply entrenching themselves, using AATs to shoot bombers out of the sky. Obi-Wan sighed, knowing any direct assault on the palace would most likely fail and cost far too many lives. A bombing attack would likely destroy the palace and kill more innocents.
Obi-Wan, together with the commanding American and German officers, brainstormed plans of attack in a ruined coffeehouse, while troops outside fought away droid attack legions. Obi-Wan sighed again. The men were sitting at a rickety table with a map of Paris spread out on its surface. "What about through here?" A German mused, pointing to a small route through several alleys and back streets. "Too narrow. We'd barely be able to fit anyone through." An American said.
"We could attack from all fronts. But that would require securing the rest of the city first." Obi said. The second German nodded. "Ja, but, zat would be hard, and, we pledged to capture za palace first." "Pledges can be broken if necessary." The second American said. "Ja, und we're in France, zey know all about breaking pledges." The third German said, raising a chuckle from the others, even Obi, who knew what the man was referring to.
"We gotta find summin'." The third American said. "If not, destroying the palace might be necessary." Obi-Wan shook his head. "No, I won't allow that, we can't." "Zometimes, we must do vwat is necessary." The first German growled. Obi frowned. He knew many Germans still had a lingering bitterness towards France due to the Second Great War, in which France's fascist leadership allied with Oswald Mosley's Britain. Obi sighed again. "Major, I understand that necessity dictates many things, but we cannot let a false idea of necessity overtake us. We can still win without resorting to the enemy's tactics." The first German stared the Jedi Knight in the face. "War is hell. You can either fight, or die." Was the only thing he said. "Ohhhhkay." The first American said "Let's get back on track."
"Zell, we can attack from two fronts, which might break zier defense." The second German said. Obi-Wan nodded. "That may be our only choice, but, we have to be careful. Any full direct assault will be costly." Anakin burst into the coffee shop, knocking over the door that was already barely on its hinges. "Master, Majors, we have a breakthrough." "What is it?" the second American demanded. "Some French citizens have attacked the palace defense with molotovs, there's a small window we could use!" The majors and Obi-Wan looked at each other. They all nodded.
The Terrans and clones began to amass into one force, moving towards the palace before splitting into three prongs. The weak spot in the palace's defense was rapidly being fixed, meaning the attack had to begin now, and quick. The troops charged, covered by cars and tanks, firing at the droids. The droids quickly hardened their defenses, with several AATs going down to Terran tanks.
However, the Terrans and clones were also suffering bad damage, with many clone and Terran tanks going down. The Terrans and clones managed to break another hole in the droid defense, and Obi-Wan saw his chance, as him, Anakin and Jason charged the broken defense with several dozen Americans and Germans. They managed to get past the defenses at heavy cost, approaching the palace.
The strike force managed to break into the palace as the main assault continued outside. The strike force began to make its way through the palace, encountering droids. With the force was Rommel and Hall, both men fired off their rifles as the jedi slashed and hacked at droids and many good soldiers fell to their deaths. Hall slammed the butt of his rifle into a super battle droid as Rommel picked off two regulars coming down the hall.
Deeper in the palace, Mitterrand and several CIS officers were being surrounded by droids as protection. Anakin broke from the group, ignoring Obi-Wan's yells as the young jedi ran deeper into the palace, cutting down multiple droids. He then kicked in several doors, charging into the main room. The droid guards turned to face him as Mitterrand and the others began to slowly step back.
Anakin grinned and twirled his blade as the droids began to open fire. The Hero With No Fear began to twirl and jump around, slashing droids and deflecting blaster bolts. He leapt over a super, slicing both its arms off, before stabbing a droid commander through the heart and slicing the head off another. MagnaGuards began to enter as Anakin disposed of the last few battle droids. The young Jedi grinned, straightened his Fonzi jacket, and began to duel two MagnaGuards at once. He managed to decapitate both, still dealing with their chest eye. He blocked and parried, before slicing one's left leg off and then stabbing its chest eye. Now facing one, Anakin twirled and spun, driving his blade through its chest.
As its limp body collapsed, Anakin used the force to shove two wide doors open, storming down the hall after the Separatist officers and their small guard. He managed to corner the group in a large room, using the force to close and lock each door. The droids began to fire on the Jedi Knight, who responded by quickly killing most of them. Mitterrand began to frantically pull at a door as Anakin slaughtered the rest of the guard, now focusing on the Neimoidian officers. He slowly began to kill the defenseless officers as Mitterrand's frantic door pulling grew worse. Anakin stabbed through the heart of the last Neimoidian, then turning to Mitterrand. Angered at the death, destruction, and pain this man had caused, Anakin twirled his blade and approached the French ruler.
Back outside, Obi-Wan and Jason raced down the hall after Anakin, finding the destroyed MagnaGuards. Obi-Wan force-pushed the doors open, finding the field of bodies as Anakin stood over the decapitated corpse of Mitterrand. "Anakin..." Obi-Wan said, shocked. "Let's end this." Anakin said simply, walking past both men.
Outside, the attack on the palace was going well, with multiple breaks in the Separatist's defense allowing Terrans and clones to flood in. Eventually, the order was given to evacuated the palace and head towards the northern half of the city. The retreat was a hell for the droids, with the Terrans killing off hundreds of Seps for every mile they retreated. The droids began to dig in on the northern shore of the Seine River, using it to their advantage to keep the Terrans and their clone allies out.
However, all of southern Paris had now fallen to the Terrans, but the battle was not over yet. The Terrans and clones began to dig in and work on caring for wounded soldiers and civilians. Despite the half-victory, much of Paris was destroyed, especially the south. Entire streets lay in ruins, and many bodies -droid, clone, Terran- littered the streets. Ruined vehicles such as tanks, armored trucks, speeders, and civilian cars were everywhere, many overturned, on fire, or both.
Civilians limped through the hellish warzone, looking for belongings, relatives, and friends. The air was filled with the voices of civilians calling for friends, loved ones, and pets. Mothers cradled the dead bodies of their children, sobbing and cursing the Separatists, while men stared in horror at the burnt-out corpses of their wives, children and best friends. Obi-Wan and Anakin stared at this scene, as Terrans and clones tried their best to save as many innocents as possible. "Mein Gott..." A German soldier said.
"Savages..." An American gasped out. "No better than ze reds, savages!" a German shouted in his thick accent. "This battle ain't over yet." Jason said. "Let's end this."
The Terrans and clones began to amass and prepare for another attack, knowing something the droids didn't. A force of 10,000 clones, backed up by 3,000 Americans, 1,000 Germans, and 4,000 Frenchmen was preparing to attack the northern City of Light mainly as a distraction. Meanwhile, the main attack force prepared to cross the river, knowing full well it would be costly. Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Jason stood near the river, all using electro-binoculars to watch the droids on the other side.
"It's time." Obi-Wan said.
The Terrans began a barrage of the Separatist lines, planning to create an open path once the river crossing was completed. Clone engineers began to place down generators for an energy bridge to allow tanks to cross. The bridge activated, and Abrams and Panzers began to cross, incurring heavy fire from the droids. The tanks began to enter the northern half of the French capital, as more bridges were activated by the clones and hundreds of troops began to pour in.
The Terrans and clones took refuge in buildings and behind cars as they sprayed fire into the droid ranks. The distraction force began to attack the northernmost parts of the city, drawing away CIS forces to repel it. Obi-Wan grimaced as he deflected a blast bolt into a storefront. Jason and Anakin stood alongside him, while the main attack force began to slowly spread through the city. A force of clones began to attack an entrenched force at the Louvre as the Eiffel Tower was captured, French partisans quickly ripping down the CIS banner.
The Arc De Triomphe was in the sights of the Frenchmen next, as they split from the main force to beeline for the famed landmark. In the north, the distraction force was dealing horrible damage to the CIS, the battle in the process leveling most of northern Paris. With the droid army split in half, they slowly began to crumble, however, in the north, they managed to repel the distraction force, in the process losing 40,000 units.
In the south, three piercer prongs split from the Terran/clone force and crashed into the droids, breaking their lines. The attacks, led by Obi-Wan, Jason, and Anakin swept through the droid force and turned, beginning a series of hit-and-run attacks at the droids from behind.
Reinforcements for the Terrans and clones were arriving. The droids were now totally surrounded, as the outer bits of north Paris fell to the enemy. The droids began to evacuate, their ships being blasted out of the sky by Terran craft.
The Battle of Paris was won.
But was it truly?
The city lay in ruins, bodies were everywhere, and smoke filled the air from many fires. The City of Light was liberated, but at such a high cost, one could scarcely call it a victory.
Battle of Mexico City
Mexico City - United Mexican States - 2:23am CST - July 10 1989
Mexican troops stood in rows in the Mexican capital city. Mexico, while a protectorate of the United States, was more than capable of defending herself, and she was determined to prove that. 60,000 Mexican soldiers had surrounded the city and entrenched themselves in the city streets. President Carlos Salinas de Gortari sat in a bunker with Mexico's top generals.
A droid force of 80,000 was attacking the city, first by bombarding it from air then landing units directly in its streets. The battle soon dissolved into chaos as the Mexicans desperately fought to maintain their capital's freedom. Despite taking heavy losses, the Mexicans fought on and valiantly, they refused to be taken over by space robots. The droids carved out 16 conquered zones spanning multiple blocks, flooding their droids into houses and stores to secure them. The Mexican troops, disoriented, often fired their guns off wildly, getting cut down rapidly.
The droids rapidly began to connect their footholds, gaining a strip of territory across the city. Mexican troops attacked a weak point in this strip, managing to briefly break the lines, however, the troops in this attack were rapidly killed off. The Mexican forces consolidated around the government buildings, determined to hold them at any cost.
The tactical droid commanding this attack was please with how it was going as he dropped more troops in. The Mexican Air Force was a bit of an issue, but not too much of one. Hyena bombers attacked Mexican defensive positions around the city while civilians rushed to flee. The droid decided not to waste time attacking these people, instead bombing the government buildings, destroying them and killing thousands of Mexican troops.
The president was captured as droids flooded the shattered National Palace, capturing all of the Mexican high command. At order of several lower-ranked generals, the Mexican troops in the city began to evacuate to the city of Cuernavaca, where a military government would be established. However, the tactical droid would not allow the bulk of the Mexican army to escape this easily, he ordered a bombing run of the retreating Terrans, killing thousands more as reinforcements arrived, bolstering the fleeing force as it began to enter the city.
The tactical droid sent 20,000 of his remaining 40,000 droids to take the new quasi-capital, with the other 20,000 staying to occupy the city.
The Battle of Cuernavaca began as the droids rushed the hastily-set up defenses, succeeding in breaking many and flooding the city. The Mexican forces proved far more formidable this time, succeeding in repelling the droids, sending them back to Mexico City. As it happened, the First Battle of Mexico City had ended, and the Second Battle was beginning. The military leaders in Cuernavaca got word of American troops numbering 5,000 and around 15,000 clones on the way to aid their Mexican allies.
This news greatly bolstered the remaining 30,000 Mexicans, as the droids in the capital now only numbered 35,000, meaning the combined Mexican-American-clone force would greatly outnumber them.
The Second Battle of Mexico City began at around 7:02am, as the Americans kicked it off by bombing the droid defenses as the main force of 50,000 began its hour long trek back to the Mexican capital. Early skirmishes barely dented the Terran/clone force, with only around 200 men dying to hit-and-runs by droids. As the Americans began landing paratroopers in the city, and the main force began to assault the outer city, it became clear who would win the day here.
As the Terrans and clones began to enter the city streets, the tactical droid decided it wasn't worth it to hold the city, instead he ordered a full retreat, and, using Scorched Terra tactics, began bombing the city, slaughtering thousands of innocents and destroying many historical buildings as his landing craft were shot down, and the vengeful Mexicans charged the center of the city, ripping the tactical droid from his ship and tearing his limbs off.
The Second Battle of Mexico was a pyrrhic victory for the Terrans.
Wow! This one took forever to get done, sorry about that, life 'n stuff. Hope this chapter is good, as always leave a review with questions and suggestions for future chapters. Next chapter will showcase the battles of Tokyo and Nanjing, since I've been focusing on the Americas and Europe with these battles so far! stay tuned!
