United Nations Building - New York City - United States of America - 10:23am EST - July 20 1989
George H. W. Bush, President of the United States, stepped onto the podium in the UN General Assembly. "My friends, we all know why we're here today. We have fended off a great evil from our humble world." The delegates all stood and began to clap, cheering for their world. Bush held his hands out for quiet. "We, the nations of Terra, stand united and firm today. With our help from our friends in the Galactic Republic, we have beaten away the vile Separatist Alliance. Alas, this is not over yet. The CIS may have retreated, but they are still in this galaxy, along with god knows what else. We MUST stand ready to defend our world at all times."
"Also, can we truly just abandon our Republic friends? No, we must stand with them. We must present a unified front to the universe. Thus, today I propose the creation of the Terran Federation, a new union from the UN. Membership shall be voluntary, and national sovereignty shall remain. The only thing we ask of members is they contribute materials and maybe soldiers to war efforts, and to the peaceful colonization of other planets. The Federation's banner will show the galaxies, show our friends and enemies that we are strong! We are independent! WE ARE TERRA!"
The delegates all leaped to their feet again, applauding the President. They began chanting "Terra! Terra! Terra!" The GA's vote was a landslide yes. The UN flag at the building was lowered, and a new banner was raised. A blue field with a centered white eagle clutching arrows and a lightning bolt. Above the eagle, shielded in its raised wings, was Terra. This banner symbolized Terra, her glory protected by the might of the Federation.
The Federation of Terra was born. The Republic quickly recognized it, and donated it 100 capital ships as the Terrans began adapting their jets to space. Early German/American settlements began on Mars and Luna, as the two superpower allies rapidly came to dominate the Federation. The Federation's duel executives were the President of the United States, and the Reichskanzler of the German Empire. Below that, was the Federation Council, a cabinet comprising leaders from various nations that would rotate every so often.
July 20 was made "Federation Day", a new global holiday across Terra. Next, the Federation Congress -the old UNGA- voted to declare war on the CIS officially. The fledging Federation Navy -almost entirely comprised of the German and American Navies- began to move its ships to the Republic's galaxy, while also attacking the few remaining CIS forces in the Milky Way.
Grievous had fled back to the home galaxy, furious after been whipped by lowly Terrans of all people. News of nuclear weapons spread like wildfire, and the Republic, practically salivating over the prospect, had essentially begged Terra to supply it with nukes, which President Bush and Chancellor Kohl were more than happy to oblige. Now officially involved in the war, Terra was still shaken by the recent war, and had barely begun to recover. Multiple major cities laid in ruins, the world economy was in tatters, and many millions had died, and trillions of dollars had been lost.
But, Terra's people were galvanized, angry, and ready for a fight. Enlistment rates in the many armies and navies of the world skyrocketed, as the new Federation Army was created, though it of course was very decentralized to allow armies to fight independently and play to each other's strengths. The Federation began to slow process of rebuilding, which would take around a decade. Many cities like Chicago, Paris, London, Nanjing, Tokyo, and Petrograd had suffered immense damage, while others like Mexico City had almost entirely been wiped off the map. Others, like Berlin, New York, Los Angeles, Charleston, and Vladivostok were in reasonably good shape, with their recovery estimated to take less than two years.
The US and German economics were recovering quickly, while the economies of places like England, France, Mexico, and China were shredded. Three months passed, and Terra continued to rebuild. Memorials were built across the planet to the fallen soldiers and civilians. Meanwhile, Omega Team was dispatched and its members assigned to various jedi knights to join them in fights across the galaxy.
Jason, meanwhile, travelled with Obi-Wan back to Coruscant to receive additional training before the two would be sent back out to the front lines. Of course, both jedi received many gifts from the Terrans, for Obi-Wan, multiple shaving kits, dozens of history books, several historical artifacts from the US, Germany, China, and Russia, and for Anakin, multiple Fonzi jackets, several Mustangs, several Lamborghinis, and a high-quality copy of every Happy Days episode along with a VHS player and a television.
Both jedi knights were also gifted the highest honors and medals from every nation on Terra, multiple properties, and the honor of status in Chicago and New York. Celebrations also exploded across Terra, which would end up lasting months, people celebrating not only their victory, but the sheer greatness of being alive. President Bush's popularity exploded to extremely high levels, however, in other parts of the world, it was different. In China, their old regime was torn down by furious citizens, and a new pro-American pro-Federation government was established. France became a military junta, as did Mexico and Siberia. Russia, now under Vladimir Putin, aligned itself fiercely with the Federation.
So much had changed in such a short time, and Terra was ready for those changes.
Now I know this is a super short chapter, but that's because I really just wanted to showcase the status of Terra itself before getting into the actual Clone Wars, along with the Declaration of the Federation.
