Have I mentioned how much I love writing Nora? I 3 writing Nora.
After the double and triple checks had been finished, she was prepared for her segment on the show - every single strand of hair was in place, her makeup had been done to perfection, her clothes were impeccably coordinated.
Now she was watching the television monitors behind the scenes, waiting for her cue to walk onto the set. She could feel nerves building in her stomach, but those were solely due to the unknown of what was going to happen when she stepped onto that stage. Nora and Jaune were notorious for coming up with crazy, unsuspected things to do to their special 'guests.'
She laughed while watching Nora hold a full grown sloth like a baby, while Jaune tried to convince the girl to return the creature to its keeper. For a moment there, it looked like Nora might seriously consider making a break for it with the animal, but thought better of it at the very last second.
The man carrying the sloth walked past her a few seconds later, cooing softly to the creature that Nora had only been teasing about kidnapping him.
A brief commercial break passed and she heard Jaune begin her introduction.
"So our next guest is someone we've been trying to get back on the show for quite some time now - you might know her as Skyler Redd, the womanizing, adventure seeking star of The Dust Chronicles, but we know her as -"
"The womanizing, adventure seeking, Yang Xiao Long!" Nora cut in, grinning widely while gesturing in her direction.
Shaking her head with a smile, she walked onto the set to the applause from the audience - giving them a big smile and small wave before taking her designated seat to the right of Nora and Jaune's chairs. The only thing on the set with them was a small coffee table placed in front of the three of them.
"Yang! Welcome back to We Don't Give a -"
A loud, long noise rang out, bleeping out the word Nora had just said aloud. The audience all laughed, eternally amused by the redhead's carefree use of the word.
"Glad to be here," she replied with a grin, nodding her head towards her two hosts.
"Now, for those of you who might not know, Yang has been on the show before - right after the first Dust movie launched her into super-stardom. And...that show was amazing in many ways, but I'll most remember it for this moment. Role the clip!"
Jaune made a gesture in the air signaling the directors to play the clip he was referring to.
She turned towards the large screen behind them, knowing precisely which moment was about to replayed before their eyes.
"Ok," Nora commented, raising her hand to pause the clip for a second. "So here we are, sitting much as we are right now. But look at her - do you see how she's looking at that pie. Like seriously - she looks ravenous!"
She laughed along with the audience. In the video, her vision was trained awfully intently on the pie sitting on the edge of the table. She could remember at the time being so concerned about what Nora was going to do with the pie…
"Well, you see, I was getting in shape for the second Dust movie, so I was pretty ravenous," she joked instead, drawing laughs from everyone.
"Play the rest of it!" Nora shouted, the audio from the previous clip raising so everyone could hear.
"So, Yang, did you ever expect The Dust Chronicles to be such a huge success?" Jaune asked.
"Honestly, I knew that we had a great director, great script, and loved the idea. I hoped that people would like it, but never expected it to become as big of a hit as its been," she replied, her eyes flitting to the pie on the table several times.
"People have been talking a lot about you and Cinder Fall recently - calling you two the next up and coming film stars - what's it like to have those kind of compliments being written about you?" Jaune continued his line of questioning.
This had been back when the two hosts had actually cared a tiny bit about asking pertinent questions. Well, Jaune seemed to have cared. Nora was just watching Yang with a huge grin on her face - a grin that grew wider every time she glanced towards the pie.
And of course, Yang had been so new to this type of spotlight, she answered every question in the most politically appropriate way possible. At least, she had at first...
"Hearing those types of things is truly humbling and scary at the same time. But, Cinder is exceptional to work with and I hope we can continue to create films that people enjoy watching."
Nora interrupted Jaune before he could ask his next question, holding up a hand to silence him.
"Yang, I can't help noticing that you keep looking at that pie. Is it bothering you, sitting there?" the redhead asked with a sweet smile.
The question threw her off guard.
"Oh...uh...n-no it's not bothering me...I just don't really know why it's there," she sputtered out, her polished, practiced exterior instantly dissolving to reveal the nerves she was feeling.
"Ah...well you see…" Nora said, leaning close to Yang as if she were going to tell her a big secret, "that's there for when our guests answer a question incorrectly…"
Nora continued to stare at her with maniacal grin on her face while Yang looked at her in surprise. But gradually, her surprise began to fade when she realized what was going to happen.
Nora was going to throw that pie in her face.
They stared at each other, a mental game of chicken playing out between them while Jaune uncomfortably cleared his throat and tried to get the conversation going again.
"So -"
They both jumped from their chairs and scrambled for the pie plate at the same time, but Yang got her hands on it first. Turning, she aimed it towards Nora and released it. It happened in a split second, but the redhead ducked just in time and the pie flew past her - landing squarely on Jaune's face.
Both of them froze, staring at Jaune in shock at what had just happened.
When Yang broke down laughing, Nora instantly followed - the two of them doubling over, clutching their stomachs while tears collected in their eyes.
Meanwhile, Jaune calmly wiped off his eyes with his hands before licking his lips.
"Mmm...that's a really good pie, Nora. Where did you get it?" he asked good naturedly, only increasing the redhead's giggles.
"I don't know! It was just sitting there when we showed up tonight!"
The clip cut off and Yang turned back towards the two sitting beside her now. All three of them had changed since that day. She no longer felt that anxiety over always answering 'right' or not making a fool of herself. And Nora and Jaune...well, they no longer gave a boop about anything they said, did, or asked.
"I would like point out my lightning quick reflexes to everyone," Nora said happily.
"I would like to point out the complete absence of pie on the set today," Jaune added, drawing another round of laughter from their viewers.
Once the laughter had died away, Nora and Jaune both turned towards her.
"You're probably expecting us to ask you about the newest Dust movie today," Jaune began, making her laugh - she knew exactly where this was going.
"But you don't give a **** about that," she said for them with a grin, hearing the long noise play overtop of her swear word.
Nora clapped her hands once excitedly.
"Oh - I think she's got the hang of this now, Jaune!" she said gleefully, the boy nodding his head in agreement.
"You're absolutely right," Jaune said, eyes twinkling with amusement. "We're not interested in the movie at all."
"That's right! It's time for you to spill," Nora added, her own eyes dancing with more mischief than amusement. "Tonight's subject will be...Blake Belladonna."
The audience cheered loudly while she turned and gave them a winning smile, but she could feel her pulse speed up at the questions that were to come. She sent up a tiny prayer that she wouldn't answer anything too horribly.
"Now…" Jaune began with a smile, "More than just a few hearts were terribly broken when it was discovered that Yang Xiao Long was no longer on the market...so I'm sure we'd all like to know a lot more about this mysterious woman who's captured your heart."
"Oh! Let's do a rapid fire personality test!" Nora exclaimed - the audience loudly applauding the girl's suggestion.
Thankfully, she'd seen them do this 'test' before, so wasn't completely in the dark. But knowing what the test was and answering everything correctly were completely different things...
"Ok, we're going to flash pairs of words up on the screen for you - and you have to say the one you more closely associate with Blake, as fast as possible, got it?"
Swallowing once, she nodded her head and turned her attention back towards the screen while waiting for the first set of words to appear. She knew that there were always a few words that would trip people up...and trying to go fast only made it more likely she'd pick a word she really didn't want to. She could only hope that Blake would forgive her for whatever transgressions she was unwittingly about to make…
Giant numbers began counting down on the screen. She could feel her muscles tense in anticipation of the first pair.
Smart - Witty
"Witty!"
The word had hardly made its way out of her mouth before the screen switched to the next pair.
Passionate - Domineering
"Passionate!"
Petty - Gorgeous
"Gorgeous," she said, grinning at the little trap she'd just sidestepped. Nice try, Nora.
Honest - Shy
"Honest!"
Sweet - Simple
"Sweet!"
Clever - Exciting
"Exciting!"
The pairs of words were flashing on the screen faster each time, making her unconsciously make quicker and quicker decisions.
Romantic - Cute
"Romantic!"
Agreeable - Easy
"Easy!"
Wait…
Attractive - Playful
"A...playful!"
Sexy - Adorable
"A…uh…"
A buzzer went off after she stalled for too long.
"Dammit - Sexy!" she said, shaking her head while Nora and Jaune both laughed at how flustered she was. The entire ordeal had taken less than a minute, but she could feel her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"Hey, that was pretty good!" Jaune said, giving her an encouraging smile.
But any reassurance from his smile was instantly dashed when Nora grinned at her.
"Let's put up the words you chose to describe Blake! Let's just remember that this is the girl you are dating," Nora said before turning towards the screen, where a list of ten words appeared.
"Ok, so she's...witty, passionate, gorgeous, honest, sweet, exciting, romantic, easy, playful, and sexy."
Yang saw her one misstep loud and clear, even without Nora providing extra enunciation for the rest of the audience. She felt her face flush further while Nora collected herself from her laughter and turned back towards her.
"So...easy, huh?"
"I...obviously I meant 'easy' like 'easy to get along with!'" she sputtered, feeling her face grow even warmer.
"Righttt...obviously," Nora responded with a laugh. "That brings up so many questions I want to ask...but before we do that, we have to bring out the Chair of Love!"
She blinked at the term.
"The...what?"
Two stagehands were already pushing the object out towards them, one of them gesturing for her to stand up so that they could remove the chair she'd been sitting in. Not ten seconds later, she was still standing while looking at the new seat that had been delivered for her.
She started laughing as she looked at it - the sheer ridiculousness of it being quite impressive, even by Nora and Jaune's standards.
It was what looked like an old, brown recliner, but now completely decked out in pink and red glitter and paint. A piece of wood extended from the top of the chair, with the words "Chair of Love" written in huge, block letters, complete with streamers and hearts everywhere.
Looking back towards Nora and Jaune, they nodded in the direction of the chair.
"Take a seat," Jaune directed.
Hopping into the seat, she was pleasantly surprised to find that it was actually much more comfortable than the chair she'd just been sitting in.
"So, how does this work?" she asked while making herself comfortable. "Am I supposed to be under some sort of spell now?"
"Yes - a spell that makes you answer all of our questions honestly!" the redhead said delightedly.
She smiled back at them.
This was it - this was where Nora was going to drag information out of her - the type of private information that might come out eventually...she trusted that Blake wouldn't be upset at her for what she said, but that didn't mean she wanted to horribly embarrass the girl.
"We'll start easy," Jaune said, the blonde boy always taking the lead before giving way to Nora's madness.
"How did you two meet?"
"Ah...we met at one of her book signings," she answered fluently. That was the party line, at least.
"Hmm...I wouldn't have expected you to be much of a book reader - magazines, maybe," Nora said, eyes observing her reaction intently.
And she did the worst thing possible when under Nora's watchful gaze - she shifted in her seat.
"Oh, yeah I read books every once in awhile, but you'd be right that I usually read magazines," she answered.
Nora grinned at her and she knew that the girl had already caught on that she was hiding something.
"So...if you don't read a lot of books, what were you doing at a book signing?"
"I was just running home and happened to duck in for a second…" she explained, which was completely true. She had been running...
"Running home, huh?"
The toothy grin Nora gave her said that the orangette knew there was more story to be told.
But how? How could Nora already know that she'd been runn…
Cinder.
Nora had already spoken to Cinder, and Cinder had told her how Yang had run from her that day on the street.
This was bad - she couldn't admit to running from Cinder. That would open up a whole lot of questions about their 'relationship,' their breakup, and how they were continuing to work together. It would bring a lot of negative media attention to the movie...to all the cast…
"Yes...I actually ducked into the bookstore and ran right into the restroom, where I met Blake."
Nora's eyes widened while everyone else let out chuckles at her admission. It hadn't been what the host had been expecting - she'd been trying to get to the drama regarding Cinder - but had gotten something even more embarrassing. At least, in Yang's opinion.
"The restroom? You two met in the restroom?" Nora asked in disbelief, turning to glance at Jaune, who looked just as surprised as she did.
"Yup!" she responded proudly, glad that Nora was easily sidetracked by the admission. "I ran right in there and proceeded to completely humiliate myself in front of the girl of my dreams. Honestly, I'm surprised she gave me her phone number - I'm pretty sure I came off about as articulate as a box of rocks."
"And you've been dating ever since?" Jaune prodded, while Nora continued to stare in amusement.
"Ever since," she confirmed, remembering that day fondly.
"Have you said 'I love you' yet?" Nora burst out, catching both Yang and Jaune off guard.
"Yes," she answered honestly. She didn't care if everyone knew that she loved Blake - that was something she would willingly shout from the rooftops.
"Who said it first?" Jaune asked curiously.
"I did," she answered, leaving out the part where she had let it slip on accident.
"Have you two [booop]-ed?"
Nora turned towards the cameramen while Yang flushed in embarrassment.
"Ohhh that was a good one, boop operator!" the redhead exclaimed, giving the invisible man a thumbs up. "Very heads up!"
"So, have you?" Jaune pressed, his face just as eager as Nora's to hear an answer.
"Wow, Jaune. You're really into gossip, aren't you?" she replied, trying to direct attention away from herself and her burning cheeks.
Nora took the bait, laughing and lightly elbowing Jaune in the side.
"Jaune likes gossip just as much as the next girl, don't you Jauney?" she teased him while he blushed. "Let's show the picture of Jaune in the prom dress again! Do we have that one ready?"
Yang turned behind her when the screen lit up with a photo of Jaune wearing a strapless dress with a pair of sneakers - the blonde boy grinning like an idiot.
"You know, you actually have a great build for that dress!" she directed towards the boy.
"Thank you! See Nora? Yang thinks that I looked great in that dress," the blonde boy replied, making Yang laugh.
"But next time, you really should wear a different pair of shoes," she suggested. "What size do you wear? I think I have a pair of silver heels that would match perfectly."
She grinned as everyone laughed, including Jaune.
"Next time you're here, bring those with you and I'll wear them," he responded with a smile - completely serious.
"Deal."
She smiled while the rest of the audience applauded their pact. Only when she saw Nora's expectant face did she realize that she wasn't in the clear yet.
"Sooo...bringing our conversation back to you...have you two...been 'intimate' yet?"
"I...well...yes," she finally answered, feeling her face turn a deep shade of red instantaneously.
Unfortunately, rather than seeming to appease the small redhead, the admission only seemed to egg her on.
"What's the easiest way to get Blake to agree to do something?" Nora asked eagerly.
"Uh...bribe her," she answered. She wasn't completely sure she'd ever gotten Blake to do something the girl hadn't actually wanted to do though…
"Bribe her with what?"
"Food or...uh…" she began answering, but Nora interrupted her, thankfully already moving on to the next question.
"What's her most sensitive area?"
"Her ears," she responded, just barely managing to suppress the urge to hide her face in her hands in embarrassment.
Pyrrha had better have had a great time with Jaune. In fact, they'd better be engaged or secretly married now to make this worth it.
"Has she written you into any of her stories?"
"Oh...actually, I don't know -"
"Do you usually stay over at her place or does she stay at yours?"
"Uh...a mixture of both. It really depends on which we're closest to."
"Hey, take it easy on her, Nora," Jaune finally cut in. "At least give her a chance to breathe between questions!"
She shot the boy a grateful look, while Nora glanced at him before turning towards the audience.
"Who would loveee for our very own Jaune Arc to sit in the Chair of Love and answer questions next?" she asked, the audience going wild at the idea.
Jaune flushed deeply and gave Yang a sympathetic smile.
"Sorry, you're on your own," he said, making everyone laugh while she shook her head.
"I'm going to make sure to bring my most uncomfortable pair of heels for you," she replied, casually sending him a wink.
Thankfully, even though Nora externally dismissed the boy's comment, she took his advice to heart.
"Have you met her family?" the girl asked at a much slower pace.
"No, I haven't."
Going into Blake's lack of family was not something she was going to get into right now…
"Has she met yours?"
"Oh uh…actually no she hasn't yet."
Yang hadn't even thought of that yet! But of course Blake should meet her father, Uncle Qrow, and especially Ruby, if her sister would ever come back to Vale. Briefly wondering why Blake had never brought that up, she realized that the author was probably waiting for her to suggest it first.
Which was definitely something she needed to do.
A soft tone played, which only the three of them recognized as the signal that they needed to wrap up their conversation in the next few minutes.
"All fun and games aside," Jaune said, "we'd like to know how you really feel about her, Yang."
The question unleashed a spout of emotions - the ones she usually held at bay to keep from embarrassing herself.
"Ok," she replied slowly, turning towards one camera directly, "but Blake - you're not allowed to listen to this part, so turn off the tv now!"
After a few seconds, she nodded in satisfaction and turned back to Nora and Jaune to respond to their question.
"How do you know she'll stop watching?" Nora asked curiously.
"Well, if she doesn't, she won't be able to look at me the next time she sees me," she explained with a grin.
"But, to answer your question..." she began, taking a deep breath before taking the plunge - putting her feelings out there for the entire world to hear.
"She's the type of person I've had dreams about, but never believed existed. She's...my everything - my forever. So, I hope you don't get tired of hearing about her - because she's here to stay."
"Does that mean marriage is on the horizon, maybe?" Jaune asked, voice soft and curious while he leaned forward - intent on hearing her answer.
"It means...whatever she wants, I'll more than gladly give it to her. Whether that means marriage or not, I don't care as long as I get to spend the rest of my life with her."
She smiled at Nora and Jaune while the audience aww'd at her confession.
Nora glanced at Jaune before they both beamed back at her, clearly delighted by her answer.
"So maybe in a few months, Blake can come on the show and spill all of your secrets, huh?" Nora suggested, getting the crowd to once again applaud in approval at the idea.
Laughing, she shook her head lightly.
"I think you know enough about the both of us for the time being," she replied lightheartedly.
"Fair enough," Jaune said before turning towards the audience one last time, "and with that, we're saying goodbye for tonight. Be safe everyone!"
'That's a wrap' was shouted out over the sound of more applause. Standing from her chair, she followed Nora and Jaune back off the set - waving to the audience participants on their way. Already waiting there for them was Lie Ren, looking very dapper in a suave, dark black suit. Nora ran up to him immediately, jumping into his arms and planting a big kiss on his lips.
"Hey Ren," she said when the two had finally separated and Nora was standing off to the boy's side, clutching his hand firmly.
"Yang," he replied, dipping his chin in acknowledgement. "Thank you for agreeing to come tonight. That was one of the more...entertaining...interviews I've seen in awhile. Entertaining, but also heartfelt."
Her cheeks warmed at the comment.
"Well, you know things are usually entertaining when Nora is involved," she replied, nodding towards the redhead, who was now staring hungrily at the boy. Remembering what Jaune had said the other day, she decided that it might not be the best idea to linger for very long.
"But ah...I should probably get home and make sure that I still have a girlfriend!"
"Please...with how much you love her, she'd be a fool to ever leave you," Nora replied easily, her eyes were still refusing the leave Ren.
Grinning at the vote of confidence, she quickly said her goodbyes to the trio before making her way towards the exit - pulling out her phone while she walked and dialing the number that had been etched upon her heart.
"Hello?"
The voice on the other end of the line instantly sent her heart off on another race.
"You still love me, right?" she asked.
Her nerves disappeared when she heard Blake's familiar laugh.
"If anything, I love you more now…"
She couldn't think of anything to say in response, content to just grin into the phone like an idiot at the admission.
"So...are you going to come over?" Blake asked after a few seconds of silence.
"Really?" she asked incredulously. "I kind of...thought that you'd be punishing me for the 'easy' slip up for awhile..."
"Well, I told you to answer honestly and you did...because tonight, I will be easy for you."
Her feet stopped walking, her jaw dropping open at the words.
"I - sorry, what?"
"Don't keep me waiting," Blake responded before the phone clicked off.
"Holy...boop," she said, staring down at the device in her hand for a second before hailing the first taxi she could find and giving the driver Blake's address - telling him to step on it.
Apparently, she had done something right tonight.
