Chapter 42: She Loves Him

This wasn't exactly the way Derek pictured their reunion going. In his idea of them getting back together, there was the rain, with her waiting for him and them kissing and being themselves, but he hadn't exactly thought it would happen after a shooter entered the hospital and threatened lives. These things didn't happen. They happened to other people.

Except now it happened to them. The horror that brought people back together again happened to them. Now, they were lying in his bed in the trailer, tangled in each other's arms, never wanting to move.

Derek had woken up earlier and hadn't been able to go back to sleep. He just wanted to lie here and watch Meredith. The woman who he was completely in love with and never wanted to be without. As the sun came up, and she stayed asleep, he slipped out of bed to make them breakfast in bed for when she woke up. He wasn't expecting her to be awake this early as he heard her screams from the bedroom.

"Derek...Derek!"

"What?" He said, hurrying back into the small bedroom.

"I..." She sat up, running her fingers through her still slightly damp hair. She was wearing one of his large t-shirts and a pair of sweats that were far too large for her small body.

"What's going on?" He whispered, sitting down on the bed.

"I just...you weren't here and I was having a dream about last night again and...I'm okay now."

"I'm sorry..." Derek breathed, wrapping his arms around her.

"I'm okay." She whispered, falling back against the pillow.

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

"I'm not going anywhere."

"Okay...okay."

"You're still wet..." He whispered.

"There was a lot of rain." She giggled tiredly.

"And a lot of kissing in the rain." He smiled, laying back on the bed.

"I remember that."

"Did you sleep okay?"

"Yeah...it was good...I missed you."

"I missed you too."

"What?" She asked, nuzzling her nose in his chest.

"Don't ever go to a hospital where there's a shooter inside again."

"It was your fault."

"I didn't invite him."

"I thought about trying to go in another entrance but there were cops everywhere."

"Hmm...And what were you going to do?"

"I don't really know."

"Thanks for coming."

"Thanks for living." Meredith whispered.

"Mmm..."

"Last night was..."

"Scary."

"I just...I can't describe it and I was scared." Meredith murmured; her face buried in his broad chest.

"I was too." Derek whispered.

"You could have died, and that man shot people."

"He was so angry..."

"I love you...I really do." Meredith whispered.

"I love you too Meredith." Derek smiled, kissing the top of her head.

"I just...it's cheesy and weird but I can't get close enough right now. Nothing feels close enough right now."

"I know...I just...I want you here forever."

"Hmm..." Meredith whispered, lifting her head slightly. "But I think Dawsyn would panic."

"Probably." Derek chuckled.

"But we can enjoy this right now."

"I have to ask you something."

"Ask."

"Meredith Grey..." Derek smiled. "Will you go on a date with me?"

"You...seriously?" She smiled, the sun shining on her face through the small trailer windows.

"Seriously."

"Okay..." She nodded, before cuddling into his body again.

"Okay?"

"I'll go on a date with you."

"A real date."

"Okay..." She breathed, pulling away and resting her head on the other pillow.

"I told you...not letting you go." He whispered, reaching for her hand.

"We said things."

"Meredith..."

"We did...and I love you...and even with everything we said a few weeks ago...I love you...and I meant what I said last night." Meredith whispered. "And besides I love you...you never said anything about the other stuff and that's okay. But we said things and..."

"I'm sorry."

"But..."

"It's not going to be like that again."

"I think we're too cheesy right now to let it get like that."

"I did things...things that I shouldn't have done and I'm sorry..."

"Oh...me too."

"You're Dawsyn's mother and...the decisions are up to you and I'm not going to interfere with that anymore."

"I know but...if we're going to keep doing this...and if Dawsyn adores you like she does...we can make that stuff work for us. Right?"

"She's your daughter...It's your choice." Derek whispered.

"Derek you're family...I never actually believed we had one but...Daws and I are a family and you're...you belong in our family." Meredith whispered. "And it can be just the three of us...or it could be more than three of us...and I..."

"We're family."

"And I shouldn't have said anything last night about the baby."

"I want a baby with you."

"And it was cheesy and...what?"

"I want to have a baby with you." Derek repeated.

"Oh...okay." Meredith smiled, before burying her face in her pillow.

"What?" Derek chuckled, rubbing her back.

"Nothing." She giggled.

"Why aren't you looking at me?"

"Because..."

"Because why?"

"Because..." She lifted her head, sitting up on the bed. "I feel so stupidly cheesy and happy and...I love you."

"That's a good thing." Derek smiled, leaning over, and kissing her.

"Hmm...it is." She whispered, moving to straddle him on the bed.

"I missed you so much."

"I missed you too...I missed you so much." She whispered.

"Come here..." He breathed, pulling her to him and kissing her.

"Hmm..." Meredith wrapped her arms around his neck.

"Hey...You didn't mean that thing about going to the bar, did you?" Derek asked, cocking an eyebrow.

"No I wanted you to be mad..."

"I was..."

"I mean I did go to the bar...and guys were flirting and buying drinks but nothing happened..."

"Jealous...very jealous."

"That's...kind of hot."

"You think so?"

"Hmm...I danced with a guy." Meredith whispered, resting her head on his chest.

"Who?"

"Just a guy at the bar."

"Did you get his number?"

"No." Meredith giggled.

"Good...Because if you did, I was going to call him."

"Oh I see." Meredith whispered, nuzzling her nose in his neck. "The jealous thing...I like it."

"Really?" Derek laughed.

"I do...when you get mad, or you start sounding angry...it's really hot." Meredith admitted quietly.

"Hmm..."

"It's fun for me."

"Fun?"

"Yeah."

"I've never had that before."

"I did body shots...let the guy touch my butt."

"That makes me...very angry."

"See!" She giggled, lifting her head. "Fun for me."

"Okay." Derek laughed, kissing her.

"Mmm...I love that I have the day off."

"Even if you didn't...I was going to keep you here."

"Good...my feet are still sore from work yesterday."

"I guess I know where we're not going on our date."

"Not at the restaurant I work at." Meredith giggled. "Which...on Wednesday nights they have family night and I usually have to work and so does Izzie but...if you wanted to bring Dawsyn on the Wednesday nights you have off..."

"We'll be there."

"Okay." She smiled, kissing him.

"Our date...is just you and me."

"It is." Meredith smiled, resting her head against his as she took a deep breath. "I um...after today...things are different. I mean we're moving forward but I don't have an apartment so it's not like you can just come stay."

"We'll just have to have sex in my car." Derek smirked.

"I like sex in your car...in your bed..."

"And your bed when you get a new place."

"That might be a really long time Derek."

"Or my bed...when my house is done..." He whispered.

'What?" She frowned, as he ran his hands along her arms.

"I have all this land and I just thought...The trailer is small and building a house seems like a good idea..."

"Oh...you're going to live out here in a house."

"Yeah..."

"Okay." She breathed, before kissing him lightly.

"And maybe someday..." He whispered. "In a while...you and Dawsyn could move in with me..."

"Oh..."

"Only if you want to. I'm not going to push you or..."

"No it's just...it's really far from Dawsyn's school and I could still send her there, but it's expensive to do that and...we can do that until I can afford the fee for open enrollment." Meredith sighed.

"We can wait until she's older...at a different school...maybe go somewhere closer to here." Derek breathed.

"We'll...we can figure that out...we...I'll just pay the fee and I'll drive her to school."

"It'll be a long time from now...the house needs to be planned and built...But I want you two with me."

"Okay..." Meredith nodded.

"And if Dawsyn doesn't want to...we'll figure something else out."

"Hmm...I'll figure something out."

"I love you."

'I love you too..." She whispered, pressing her lips against his again. She pulled away, looking into his eyes, he smiled in a way that made her kiss him again.

"I was trying to make breakfast for you." He smiled, against her lips.

"Shh..."

"What?"

"I love you..." She kissed him deeply, her fingers moving to his hair.

"You too...I love you too..." He whispered.

"I need you."

"Mmm..."

"Love."

"You." Derek smiled.

"I'm all yours...forever." She whispered, pulling away to lift the large shirt over her head.

"I hope so." He smiled, tossing the shirt to the side.

"It's still early...we have the whole day." She whispered against his lips.

"We do..." He said, running his fingers along her bareback.

"Hmm..." She kissed him, before resting her head on his shoulder.

"I love you." He whispered again.

"We keep saying that." She giggled, running her hands along his chest.

"Because it's true." He smiled, kissing the top of her head.

"I could have taken the cop."

"I believe you."

"I should have tried." Meredith whispered.

"Then I'd be bailing you out of jail right now." Derek laughed.

"It would be completely worth it."

"It would."

"Can we just stay like this?"

"That's all I want."

"Good."

"Is it bad if I say I love you again?"

"Not at all."

"I love you."

"I love you." She laughed, her chest heaving against him.

"Breakfast?"

"Hmm...okay." She whispered.

"Your favorite." He smiled, getting out of bed and helping her up.

"French Toast?"

"French toast."

"Oh...good." Meredith smiled, following him into the kitchen. "Then we can eat it in bed."

"Where else?" Derek laughed, kissing her as they got into the kitchen.

"My body."

"Really?" He smirked.

"I'm just saying it is another example of somewhere to eat." Meredith shrugged.

"I would love to eat french toast off of you." Derek grinned, taking the bread out of the fridge.

"I bet you would." Meredith rolled her eyes.

"It was your idea." Derek laughed, walking over to her, and kissing her.

"Well it's one of many things you get to do whenever you want...from now on."

"Good to know...Very good to know." He smiled, kissing her again.

"Mmm...good morning."

"Good morning."

"Want to know what else you get to do every day for the rest of our lives?" She giggled.

"What?" He smiled, his hands on her hips.

"Make me french toast."

"I'm looking forward to it."

"Me too." Meredith whispered, sitting down at the small table as Derek began to cook her breakfast. She loved him, in a very cheesy way that made her question if she was really the same person. Except, something could have happened to him, and she loved him. She planned on loving him every day for the rest of her life.
