Chapter 26: Lucky Girl: Part 1

I Don't Own Ben 10 or Any of the Respective Characters, The Rights Belong to Man of Action Studios and Cartoon Network

Author's Note:

* Hello and welcome to Chapter Twenty Six of the reboot!

* This chapter will be a bit different from the original version, but not by too much. And it's also because of that that this chapter won't have a Director's Commentary segment at the end. There just isn't enough information to go over to warrant having a segment.

* To make up for the lack of no chapter last week, just like the last time this happened, I'll post two chapters this evening. And unfortunately, I don't know if I can commit to updating consistently every Friday from here on out. I really want to, but as you guys have noticed, I'm not doing too well. It also doesn't help that my life isn't in the best place right now and my priorities aren't where they should be. But still, I am desperately trying to stick to this thing. So, just let that be known, I will try to continue posting on Fridays, but I just don't know if I can keep up with that for the time being.

* I don't really have anything to say in regards to this chapter, so let's get right into it!

Downtown Bellwood, The Tenement Building, The Rooftop

Ben

I was still standing on the rooftop of the tenement building where Albedo had left me, when I saw someone—or something—fly by in a high tech black and purple armored suit.

"Now that's something you don't see every day." I said turning so that I could follow that thing's path. "Almost every day."

I decided that it was in my best interest to follow the armored figure, so I started running and leaping from rooftop to rooftop to keep up with him.

"Hey!" I exclaimed as I began to gain on the armored figure.

He turned his head to look at me, before turning back to focus on the direction that he was flying in.

"Where'd you get the cool suit?" I spoke again.

This time, the armored thing came to a stop and turned to look at me as it hovered in place. I came to a stop, as well, while that thing continued to hover in front of me.

"As you can see, I'm just a Do-It-Yourself costume-wearing snob." I said.

The armored figure said nothing in response, he just kept hovering there. That's when I noticed some kind of bright, glowing violet outline forming around his fists. He then pointed his fists at me and blasted some sort of super-heated plasma energy at me. I dove out of the way and barely avoided the blast.

"Okay, fine! It's a nice suit!" I exclaimed as the armored figure flew away.

I wasn't going to let that thing get away. I dialed up the alien watch and quickly transformed into Heatblast. Once I had transformed, I sprinted after the figure, trying to catch up with it. Once I had caught up with him, I did so just in time to witness him launch another plasma energy strike into the streets. The energy strikes hit a few light poles, bringing them down on cars and innocent people.

"Are you kidding me?!" I exclaimed as he flew ahead of me, leaving me to tend to his victims.

I ran over to one of the cars and forced one of the doors open. I couldn't grab the woman to pull her out since I was in Heatblast's form, but she was thankfully able to get out on her own. After that, I moved to the next car and repeated the process. And after that, I moved on to the people trapped underneath the light poles. I quickly lifted and tossed each one to the side, freeing the victims.

"What the hell was that thing?!" one of the people asked. "What the hell are you?!"

"I don't know what it was." I said. "As for me? I'm still figuring it out."

I looked behind me to see that the armored figure was just down the street. He was just hovering there, staring at me.

Did he just wait for me while I was tending to the civilians?

I sprinted forwards to the thing to give him a piece of my mind.

"Alright, I don't know who you think you are but I just—" I was speaking when he cut me off by throwing a ball to the ground, which created a wall of impassable energy.

After that, he flew away once more.

"And now I'm talking to myself again." I said as I looked for a way around the wall.

I wonder if Heatblast can fly?

So, I jumped up, thought about flying and wouldn't you know it, my lower body turned into a cyclone of fire.

Hmm, I thought. Maybe a little too convenient, but at this point, I'll take what I can get.

I used this new ability to fly around the wall of energy and to catch up with the armored figure. It didn't take me long to catch up and when I did, I was flying alongside him, just above a rooftop.

"Hey, what say we stop this chase and get a late dinner? I'm buying!" I exclaimed as the armored figure kept on flying.

In response, he increased his flying speed, getting ahead of me again.

"Just a suggestion!" I exclaimed as I continued to chase after him.

After a couple more minutes of chasing him, he busted through the windows of an office building.

Damn it, I thought as I picked up my speed.

I entered the office building through the shattered windows and surveyed the area. There were flames all around the floor, causing the workers to be caught in their cubicles. I decided to use Heatblast to absorb all of the flames, despite what had happened the last time I tried this. This allowed everyone to get out of their cubicles and from there, I busted open the door to the stairwell. I turned and pointed toward the now open door.

"Everyone, evacuate through there!" I exclaimed. "Go now!"

They all made their exit and after that had been done, I ran to the other side of the office building, where the armored figure had made his exit through another set of shattered windows.

"Where'd he g-" I asked out lout as I looked out the window, just to be cut off.

He must have been waiting for me to my right, because I was pushed out of the window by force. Next thing I knew, I was free falling to the ground. He slammed into me, increasing the speed of my descent. Once we were on the ground, he launched himself back into the air, only two or three feet from the street. He started hitting me with barrages of that plasma energy that he could fire from his palms. I easily jumped and flipped of the way, dodging the blasts.

I knew that his plasma attacks probably wouldn't hurt me, with Heatblast being made of fire and brimstone, but I didn't want take the chance. Once I saw an opening, I threw a fireball at him, scoring a direct hit. After I got that hit on him, he didn't attempt another attack. Instead, he started flying off again. I was forced to follow him yet again. As I used to Heatblast's power to follow in his path, I eventually noticed that he seemed to be flying towards nothing.

Where is he going?

And then, he just disappeared. However, as he disappeared, a light became visible in the night sky. I didn't understand what had just happened. Where had he gone? What was that light ahead of me? I wouldn't have to wait long to find an answer, though. Seemingly out of nowhere, a massive airship appeared.

Where did that thing come from? Had it been cloaked?

That's when I noticed that the airship had a small hole in the side of it.

Wait, is that the light in the night sky that appeared?

Assuming that's where the armored figure went, I flew up to the hole and entered the airship. As I followed the path of destruction, a couple of questions entered my mind.

Who's airship is this? How could anyone possibly afford an airship of this size? Also, this definitely reminds me of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Helicarrier from Marvel Comics. Only, I thought that kind of aircraft wasn't possible.

I kept following the trail until I came to a big room with a giant glass cylinder in the middle. The glass cylinder had been shattered, leaving some sort of liquid all over the floor.

"What the hell?" I asked as I touched down on the floor.

I approached the shattered cylinder, looking it up and down as I did.

"Something was held in here." I said to myself. "But question is, wha—"

My speech was cut off when I heard a roar from my right.

No, don't tell me it's Savage Animo again, I thought.

I turned to my right to see Kevin, in his mutated form, charging towards me. I tried to dodge his attack, but he was fast. He had gotten one of his hands wrapped around my body and threw me across the room. I slowly pushed myself back up as I recovered.

Son of a bitch, that caught me off guard! He's faster than I remembered!

"Expecting someone else?" Kevin said in a deep, demonic sounding voice.

"Kevin?" I asked as I got back up onto my knees. "Is it really you in there?"

"Doesn't matter." he said as I heard him approaching.

Once again, I wasn't fast enough to block his attack and he kicked me in the chin, sending me backwards into what was left of the glass container. I heard Kevin begin to run and I looked up to see him running through the hole in the wall. I let out a sigh.

"I'll have to find Kevin later." I muttered to myself.

Also, this just occurred to me, S.E.C.T. were the ones who took Kevin away. If this is where he was being kept, then is this S.E.C.T.'s airship? Anyway, as much as I wanted to pursue Kevin, he wasn't my current priority. I still had to find that armored figure that I had been chasing for the last ten minutes or so.

"Has anyone ever told you that you are really persistent? Annoyingly persistent?" I heard a mechanical sort of voice behind me.

I turned around to see that armored figure hovering in the air just a couple feet from me.

"Well no, actually." I replied. "I honestly thought I was handsome."

"You're naïve."

It reached around to its back, pulled out two submachine guns and then pointed them at me. Although, the guns looked as though they didn't belong on Earth.

"It's going to be a pleasure burying you for what you did to me. Besides, I've gotten what I came for."

"What I did to you? What did I do to you?" I asked.

He didn't answer. He began firing those guns at me and just like with his palms, they shot some kind of plasma energy. I dodged most of the fire, however I did get hit a few times. After standing up straight again, I shot a fireball at him. It hit him and sent him spiraling out of control, sending him head first into a wall. He just laid on the floor for a second, before getting back up.

"Okay, that caught me off guard. But no matter." he said as one of the compartments of his suit opened up.

What looked to be like a mini missile launcher popped up from his forearm, with three missiles on it.

"See you in hell." the thing said.

"Save me a seat." I said before he fired the rockets.

They exploded against me and sent me backwards. Once I recovered, I got back up and saw that he was gone.

"Where'd he go now?" I asked myself as I ran toward the hole in the wall.

I eventually caught up and saw him running back toward the hole that he had entered through. Once he reached it, he jumped out and his rocket boots fired up again, sending him flying back out to the night sky outside. I followed his trail in an effort to catch up with him. Once I had gotten to the hole, I noticed he was pretty far away now. I jumped through the hole and used Heatblast's power to start flying again, sending me after my target. Unfortunately, by the time I touched down on back on a rooftop, he was gone. I looked over the edge of the roof, hoping to find a trail, but there was nothing.

"Where'd he go?" I asked out loud. "No, seriously! Where'd he go?!"

I kept looking around in every direction for him, but didn't catch a glimpse of him. Whoever he was or whatever he was, he was gone. Just then, I heard someone let out a loud whoop of excitement. I turned around and just barely missed the glimpse of someone doing a front flip over my head. As I turned around, the alien watch timed out.

I got a look at the person now standing in front of me. It was a woman. She was about as tall as me, while in my human form. The thing I noticed first was her outfit. She was wearing a skintight black jumpsuit. The jumpsuit looked to be made out of spandex and her outfit had matching black gloves and boots.

Along with that, she was wearing the same kind of mask that the Black Cat wore in Marvel Comics. She also had some kind of utility belt around her waist, with a bright violet jewel in the center of the belt. She had black hair, as well as blue eyes.

"Well," she spoke as she pushed a few strands of hair behind her ear. "who's your hero?"
