Chapter 46: Christmas in New York?

Her body was shaking, as Derek pressed light kisses against her back. Just moments after making love, he started rubbing her back, paying attention from it after she shook from her orgasm. At the moment, she thought she might be dying. She giggled slightly as he licked behind her neck. "Derek..."

"Hmm..." He laughed, his breath tickling her skin.

"That tickles."

"I know..."

"Of course you know." Meredith rolled her eyes, her chin resting on her crossed arms.

"Love you." Derek smiled, kissing her before laying back down.

"Love you too."

"That dinner was...amazing."

"Dates are surprisingly...great."

"Did you really just say that?

"What's wrong with that?" She giggled.

"I tried to get you to go on a date with me for so long." He laughed.

"I had to make you work for it."

"Oh really?"

"Yep." Meredith turned on her back, pulling the sheet to her chest.

"I'm glad you did...It made it better." Derek smiled.

"Good."

"So...I was thinking about something..." He said, turning on his side to face her.

"Oh, that's never good." She laughed.

"Hey...It's good...I promise."

"Hmm...famous last words."

"It's about Christmas."

"Christmas?" Meredith frowned.

"Yeah...The holiday with Santa." Derek laughed.

"Okay first...I didn't know who Santa was until I was six...second...I know what Christmas is."

"I want you to come to New York With me."

"You what?" Meredith frowned.

"I'm going home to my family for Christmas...and you and Dawsyn are my family too...So I want you to come." Derek said.

"Oh..."

"Oh?"

"I just...I've never left Seattle with Dawsyn for Christmas and...I mean we could...let me talk to Dawsyn." Meredith whispered, her body tense. "And work...I'll have to take a lot of extra shifts and a second job to make up for it...and to get tickets."

"This is my Christmas present to you two...A trip to New York. And we could stay for New Years." Derek reached for her hand.

"I...have you talked to your Mom?"

"Yes."

"And she's okay...with me coming?"

"She can't wait to meet both of you."

"If Dawsyn...she still believes in Santa."

"Then she'll love Christmas with the Shepherd's."

"I just...it's the one thing I can't ruin for her, and she's used to opening presents from Santa and...I mean I'm going to have to ship presents there."

"That's what suitcases are for...and there are stores in New York."

"Right..."

"My mom has a huge house, and we can stay with her...She lives right outside the city..."

"That's...okay." Meredith closed her eyes, putting a hand over her face.

"That's okay like no thanks or okay like you'll go?" Derek asked.

"Okay...I'll...we'll go."

"Have I told you that I love you?" Derek grinned, kissing her.

"You say that a lot."

"Because I love you a lot."

"You poor...sad soul." Meredith giggled.

"We can take Dawsyn to ice skate in Central Park and to the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center..."

"She'd love that...she really would."

"And then I thought New Years you and I could go out..."

"And we just leave Dawsyn?"

"She could stay with my mom and her cous...my nieces and nephews. And we'd come home before midnight."

"Okay." Meredith whispered.

"I promise, it's going to be okay." Derek breathed.

"I think I believe you."

"Dawsyn can even have her own room."

"Oh...so you're sisters aren't staying at your Mom's?"

"They live close enough to just drive over."

"Oh."

"Don't worry...They won't be there all the time."

"No...I mean it's fine."

"And Mark won't be there this year...so it won't be as...vulgar." Derek laughed.

"I would think not."

"I do have one favor to ask you though..."

"You can't mention the trailer."

"Why not?"

"Because they don't exactly know about it..."

"Oh." Meredith frowned, lacing her fingers with his. "Well you don't have to tell them that I live with my friend because I couldn't afford an apartment."

"Yeah..."

"Hmmm?"

"Nothing."

"I went to look at these apartments down towards campus...I don't think I want Dawsyn in them."

"I don't think I want you in them either...Especially with all those horny college boys."

"Oh okay." Meredith giggled, rolling her eyes.

"What?" Derek laughed. "If I was a college boy, I'd be all over you."

"Well you're a different story."

"I don't know if that's a good thing..."

"I don't know either." She giggled, pressing a kiss on her cheek. "But I have to figure something out about my living arrangement. I just...I can't keep coming out here and leaving Dawsyn with Izzie or a friends house."

"She um...I know it's small but she can come too."

"To the trailer?"

"Yeah."

"We can't have sex with her here."

"I'm willing to sacrifice." Derek laughed.

"Maybe sometimes...until I find somewhere to live."

"And sometimes...you come by yourself so we can have sex."

"Hmm..."

"And there's always my office."

"I do like your office."

"Hmm...Me too..." Derek smiled.

"But we need somewhere private...besides the house that isn't built yet."

"I um...What if I get a place?"

"I was thinking more along the lines of hotel."

"You think I should live at a hotel?"

"Well no..." She giggled. "Never mind."

"I could do that." He laughed. "I mean...people do that."

"You would hate living in a hotel."

"I would?"

"You would." Meredith nodded.

"How do you know that?" Derek asked, facing her with a smile on his face.

"Because I'm your girlfriend and...I just know."

"Well girlfriend...what if I got my own place?"

"You have a trailer." She frowned.

"I'm going to be building a house here though...I'm going to need somewhere to stay."

"Oh."

"I could rent a place..." Derek shrugged.

"So your mother doesn't find out you live in a trailer?"

"So that we have a place to go...and somewhere Dawsyn can stay too."

"Can we keep the trailer?"

"You want me to keep the trailer?"

"Of course."

"We can keep the trailer." Derek smiled, kissing her.

"You're just not you without the trailer." She whispered. "Besides...it's hot."

"The trailer stays."

"Good." Meredith giggled against his lips.

"There are some nice condos by the hospital." Derek whispered.

"That's...it's...that's nice."

"But you have to come look at it with me before I decide."

"I can do that...I just...maybe we could look at a few closer to Daws' school...not that you can't...I mean it's up to you."

"I'll look for something closer." Derek smiled.

"Okay." She smiled, kissing him again.

"But still...no mentioning the trailer."

"I'm okay with that...we just have to make Daws understand she can't say it either."

"I forgot about that..."

"She'll be fine...I'll talk to her." Meredith whispered, deepening the kiss.

"Good...Now...Other things..." Derek whispered, moving on top of her.

"Other things." She repeated, placing her hands on his sides. "Love you."

"Love you too."
