…
Maple logged back into the game as her avatar materialized into the town she started in. "I'm back for more fun. Risa's still busy with school stuff, but I can explore on my own." Maple stated with confidence in her voice, until she noticed the people around her and the stuff they wore.
"Huh? That's some nice stuff everyone else in the game is wearing." Coco stated, looking at the background characters' clothing.
"Everyone looks so stylish." Maple commented, as she looked down at her own avatar's personage. "Meanwhile, I'm still in starting equipment." Maple noted.
"Yeah, if she's going to become even more powerful, she's gonna need better gear, I'll bet." Nora said.
"The said part is, she's already really powerful." Jaune sweatdropped.
She then noticed the man in red armor from last time as she saw the equipment he was wearing. "Hey, he must be a Greastshielder too." She deduced. "Sir!" She called out to him, but she continued to walk in the opposite direction.
"Excuse me, um…" Maple called out to the man as he soon looked behind him, only to gasp in shock at the sight of the familiar-looking girl.
"Huh, it's the guy that spotted Maple being attacked that one time." Ruby noted.
"Wonder how he going to react to seeing this girl act so casual like this?" Blake wondered.
"Hey there…" Maple said as she was running up to him slowly, breathing hard after she caught up to him. "Where can I get a shield like that? Is there a shop or something?" Maple asked him, as he turned his head to look at the shield on his back.
"Uh, like this?" The man asked.
"Yeah, I think your greatshield is so cool." Maple complemented, as the man awkwardly laughed.
"At least she's being polite." Pyrrha noted.
"I wonder how he'll approach talking to her though." Leonardo wondered. 'I'm sure she'll fair better than I do with Salem most of the time.' He thought with a hint of regret…
That is until he remembered what Riaze said to Hazel. 'I wonder, what are we going to learn and gain by the end of watching this?' Leonardo asked.
"Thanks, but this was actually made to order." He responded. "I had a crafter make it custom for me in exchange for money." He then told Maple.
"People in the game are able to do that?" Yang asked.
"Sounds like it." Emerald responded.
"Oh, that makes sense." Maple muttered.
"Do you want to meet her?" The man asked.
"Yes, I'd love to." Maple answered with glee in her voice.
'So she's a newbie, after all…' The man thought in his head. 'Never thought she'd straight up talk to me thought.' He added to his thoughts.
(A little later…)
A sign was soon seen that had the words: "Iz's Workshop Welcome" on the front, Maple and the man went in as Maple was amazed at the sight of the shop's interior.
"Hey." A womanly voice said as a woman with light blue hair and white and brown clothing walked up to a counter in the shop. "If it isn't Kuromu… and a friend." She greeted, as she noticed Maple's presence.
"So his name is Kuromu?" Hazel noted.
"And that must mean the blue-haired lady's name is Iz, if that sign was anything to go by." Yang commented.
"Sorry to intrude." Maple said as the man, now named Kuromu, spoke up.
"To be honest, I couldn't resist kidnapping her, she's a greatshielder newbie." Kuromu told the lady.
"Ummm… should he have worded it like that?" Sun asked
"Probably not." Neptune answered.
"She's super cute, but hey…" The image of a yellow triangle with an exclamation point and the word call in it, appeared on a screen that was in front of the lady. "Regarding that 'kidnapping' part." Kuromu was confused by that statement. "I'm just gonna go ahead and report you." She told him.
"Whoa, don't do anything rash, it was a figure of speech, I'd never be that weird." Kuromu told her, afraid that she'd actually do it, until the lady laughed and hid the screen away.
"Yep, he shouldn't have said the word kidnapped." Harriet said.
"I'm pulling your leg, sheesh can't you take a joke." The lady said with a small laugh in her voice, as Kuromu sighed in relief.
"Not when it's bad for my heart I can't." Kuromu responded.
"You shouldn't joke about reporting someone so casually, it's obviously a serious thing!" Sun exclaimed.
"How do you know?" Clover asked the monkey Faunus.
"Um… HELLO, it's reporting, I think it comes with the territory." Sun stated.
"And you should know better than to follow around suspicious people." The lady told Maple as the newbie greatshielder responded.
"Yes ma'am, I'll keep that in mind." Maple said as Kuromu raised his head upon hearing this.
"She seriously didn't question that, he seems like a nice guy." Yang said.
"Yeah, at least he's not some stuck-up hot shot." Ruby said, looking on the bright side.
"Are you trying to say I'M suspicious?!" Kuromu asked in shock.
The lady only laughed as she spoke to Maple. "So what brings you by?" She asked Kuromu.
"Well, this girl was saying that she wants an awesome greatshield, so I thought I'd be a good citizen and introduce you two." Kuromu answered.
"Well that makes sense. Nice to meet you, I'm Iz." The lady, now named Iz, introduced herself to Maple. "As you can see, I'm a crafter, but my specialty lies more in the smithing department, I do synthesis and stuff like that too." Iz told her.
"So this Iz character is a crafter in the game, she must be pretty skilled if she was able to figure out how to make an entire custom-made shield like the one that Kuromu guy has." Elm guessed.
"Indeed, but it is a game, it's possible that some things in the creation of that shield that would happen in real life were averted because of that factor." Vine noted.
"Cool, my name is Maple, it's a real pleasure." Maple introduced herself with a bow as she giggled a little.
"Maple, huh? So why'd you want to become a greatshielder?" Iz asked her.
"Well, uh, I don't really like getting hurt, so I thought it'd be best if I focus on defense instead." Maple explained her reasoning.
"I do have to wonder how focusing on defense is going to work out for her, I mean… you can get hit by a Ursa Major's right hook and not take damage all you want, but…" Qrow said in concern for her fighting style at the moment.
"And she's not all that good with a sword at that." Jaune added.
"And she finds some things too cute to kill, which could potentially be a bad habit." Cinder commented.
"If I take all that into account, sounds like vitality gear would be right up your alley." Iz ventured a guess. "But hooking you up with the good stuff is gonna cost you an easy million." Iz told her.
"ARE YOU SERIOUS!?" The Ace Ops shouted at what Iz had priced a beginning player.
"She trying to buy a freaking house or something with that price tag!?" Nora asked.
"But it IS custom made gear centered around vitality, so… maybe it makes sense in hindsight it could cost that much?" Pyrrha sheepishly defended Iz.
Kuromu looked at Maple and asked. "How much do you have on you?"
"Not much, only 3000 or so." Maple admitted.
"Yikes. That NOWHERE near the price tag." Coco grimaced at that amount.
Iz only laughed at that fact. "I'd say you're a little short." She commented. "But keep at it and you'll have enough before you know it." Iz said to cheer her up.
Maple only pouted at that news. "Guess I'll have to look like a noob forever." Maple said in sorrow.
"Oh, come on, I'm sure she'll pick up something amazing, eventually." Ruby said.
"And I bet whatever armor she sticks to at some point will be epic looking." Jaune complemented.
Riaze looked to the side discreetly. 'He's certainly… not wrong about that.' He thought.
The three of them were outside of Iz's shop as she pointed eastward of their current location. "Poison Dragon's Labyrinth is to the east. It's loaded with all kinds of super awesome treasure." Iz told Maple. "Oh, but the monsters can be kinda strong." She then warned her.
"Go check it out sometime, if you're lucky, you might even loot some good equipment to hold you over." Kuromu stated.
"Ten lien to her going there right after she finishes talking to them." Roman joked.
"Yeah, she looks impressionable, she's definitely going to head there." Neo said.
"That's good to know, thank you both so much." Maple thanked them both.
"And now that we know each other better, why don't you let me add you as a friend?" Iz asked her. "If you do that, then we can talk whenever you want." Iz told her.
"Thanks, that would be awesome, could I add you, Kuromu?" Maple asked the guy in red armor.
"Sure, I'll also split some of my potions with you." Kuromu said as he pulled up his inventory. "A small gift for a fellow greatshielder." He remarked.
"Wow, this guy really is nice, I'm assuming that those potions are healing items?" Sun asked Riaze.
"They are indeed. They're very useful and essential when going to places where one can expect to do a lot of fighting without rest." He explained.
"Huh… sounds like something we all could use actually." Qrow commented, making Riaze think for a moment before pulling a snapping a small notebook into existence and writing something down in its pages with his fingers, that seemed to double as pencils.
Iz and Kuromu's names were seen on a small list in front of Maple, indicating that they were now on her friend list as she smiled happily.
Maple then started walking off, but turned around to wave by to her two newly acquainted friends, before continuing.
Iz giggled a little, before a thought crossed her mind. "Hold on, you don't think she'll head to that dungeon all on her own, do you?" Iz asked Kuromu.
"Nah, that's crazy." Kuromu responded as the two of them suddenly had nervous looks appear on their faces.
"And the moment of truth is that she…" Neo spun her finger in the air as she pointed to the screen right as…
Maple was soon seen walking down a dirt road as the town was seen a far ways away from her current location. "Alright, it's dungeon time. I can't believe I'm taking it all by myself." Maple said aloud.
"Oh for crying out loud! She could at least bring someone ELSE along!" James said exasperated at the choice of action Maple is taking right now.
"I wonder if there's a poison dragon in the Poison Dragon's Labyrinth." She wondered, before disregarding that thought. "Whatever, I'm sure it'll be fine, I've got Poison Resist and lots of potions." Maple reassured herself.
"And somehow, someway, that's going to be enough. I can feel it." Mercury said.
"Good, I'm not the only one." Emerald said.
(A while later…)
Maple's face had an open-mouthed expression on it as she looked at the entrance to a dark cavern with trees and tree roots all over it. "Is this the entrance?" Maple asked before walking inside.
"It's kinda… scary looking admittedly." Ruby
"It IS the lair of what ought to be a poison dragon, so I guess it comes with the territory." Weiss said.
The interior of the cave was covered with green fog-like air as tree roots were traveling along the sides of the cavern walls and into the toxic-looking waters just off to Maple's side. Then all of the sudden, amorphous blobs of goo started approaching Maple herself.
"Whoa, they're Slimes!" Maple exclaimed as she pulled out her shortsword.
"Looks like she's gonna have to fight again." Marrow said, worried that she's not gonna be able to do much damage to them.
"But she might be able to take them on easy, aren't slimes the weakest kind of monster there can be in video games?" Jaune asked.
"Yeah, they typically are." Nora answered.
"I highly doubt she's got much to worry about, especially with her high defense." Yang said with her hands behind her head.
A Slime immediately rushed at her only to get slashed at, causing it to shriek in pain, the process repeated without any significant progress, as Maple was starting to feel tired.
"Alright, you asked for it!" Maple said as she sheathed her shortsword and pointed her shield at them. She then charged at the group of slimes with a battle cry and slammed down on top of them all with her shield, squashing them until they turned into pixels.
"Another win goes to Maple." Blake said, sweatdropping at the sight of her sandwiching the slimes.
"Woo… I actually managed to win." Maple said in relief as she saw notification saying that she had gained a new skill, referred to as 'Shield Attack'. "I would've prefered an actual attack skill, but beggars can't be choosers." Maple dismissed the notification as she continued forward.
As Maple continued down the Poison Dragon's Labyrinth, she continued exploring, fighting off slimes, finding an array of flowers, running away small balls of sentient fluff (for some reason)... Until she arrived at a large set of double doors.
Maple looked at them for a moment before walking up to them and pressing one of them open. "This looks like the kind of place a boss would be." Maple noted as she scanned the area, but not before the doors she just walked through locked behind her, causing Maple to shriek in fear.
"No doubt it's where the big bad of this place lives." Ruby said with a furrowed brow.
"I hope she'll be alright, she's going at this all alone." Winter said with a worried look in her eyes.
"Maybe she'll be just fine, despite the odds saying otherwise?" Penny said semi-optimistically.
The giant maw of a monster came into view with poisonous liquid dripping from its mouth that had large spiky teeth in it, as it growled in a low tone, with a giant clawed foot from the same monster hitting the ground and dispersing the fog in that area.
Everyone was shocked at the sight of the potential size of the beast.
"Whoa… that thing's big." Ruby said in awe and slight fear.
"How's Maple gonna fight THAT?" Glynda wondered.
"With grit, determination, and her high defense?" Nora wagered a guess.
Maple looked up to find a giant three-headed hydra that was staring her down with its gleaming red eyes and massive stature. "Found you, Poison Dragon!" Maple exclaimed undaunted by the monster.
"MAN, that thing's like a Grimm with those red eyes." Ruby said in shock at the monster's eyes.
"It looks about as big as a Goliath, if not slightly smaller." Oobleck noted, in analyzing the beast's appearance.
The Poison Dragon reared its three heads back as it spat out a large amount of venomous sludge at Maple, making her grunt in pain from the attack, not only poisoning her, but also destroying her weapons. "No, my sword and shield!" Maple said as they vanished into pixels.
"It spits poison sludge?" Cinder asked in shock.
"And the poison DESTROYS weapons?" James added.
"She's completely defenseless now." Port exclaimed.
All Maple could do now was get blasted by the Poison Dragon's sludge breath attacks as she screamed in pain, her health draining at a fast pace. "Shoot, I can't defend against that!" Maple whined as she looked at how much damage she'd taken. "In that case…" She materialized a potion bottle in her hands as the Poison Dragon spat more sludge at her. 'I'll have to time it!' Maple thought to herself as she popped the cap of the potion bottle, causing it to heal her.
Kali perked up at the sight of the potion being used. "Ha, the potions Kuromu gave her are working like a charm." Kali celebrated.
"But are they going to be enough?" Ilia wondered.
'Again.' Maple called out in her head as she did the same thing again, which caused her health bar to fill up completely. 'All I've got to do is keep this up.'
The Poison Dragon continued spitting sludge at Maple as she continued to go through her potions to restore her lost HP. She then received a notification that her poison resistance went from moderate to strong. 'I'm still not there yet.' Maple said as she used another potion. 'Will this work or will I run out of potions first?' Maple wondered as she had a look of determination on her face.
"An advance from moderate poison resistance to strong?" Tai asked before realizing what Maple was planning with a gasp. "She's trying to gain complete immunity to that thing's most dangerous attack!" He stated.
"So that's why she's just standing there." Mercury said.
"She's playing the waiting game to profit off of it." Roman noted. "That's a reasonable strategy, waiting is sometimes the best move a person could make, I should know." He added.
The Poison Dragon kept up its assault as she continued using her potions to heal any damage she was taking, she was eventually drawn down to the wire as… "Well, this is my last potion." Maple stated as she used it, restoring her HP for the last time.
"And now what happens?" Sienna wondered while leaning in.
She continued withstanding the attack as she soon got a notification that stated… "[Poison Resist - Strong] advances to [Poison Immunity]." Maple then gasped at the sight of it.
Most of the audience was shocked at the sight of notice Maple got. "She got it!?" Weiss exclaimed, gobsmacked at the sight.
"Now she's completely immune to that thing's deadliest weapon." James said with a nod.
"Yeah, I did it!" Maple cheered. "I'm sorry Mr. Poison Dragon, but your attacks are useless." The Poison Dragon finally ceased the sludge breath attack as it roared to the ceiling. "Except I don't have any weapons to attack you with. What should I do?" Maple wondered as she left herself open.
The Poison Dragon soon wrapped one of its head's necks around her, trapping her in its grip as Maple started to panic. "I said your poison's useless!" Maple said in mild annoyance this time. "Take this!" Maple began to fruitlessly whack at the Poison Dragon's head that had wrapped around her as the other two heads looked at her.
"She's got the staying power, but not any way to fight that beast." Winter said.
"Now what's she gonna do?" Nora asked.
"Oh great, my karate chops aren't chopping!" Maple complained as the Poison Dragon's right head roared in her face, making Maple worried… but also gave an idea.
Maple let out a battle cry as she opened her mouth with her teeth barred as she bit onto the hydra skin and tore it off. This time, causing damage against the monster. "It worked." Maple said in glee through the hydra skin she had in her mouth.
Everyone's jaws dropped at what had transpired. "EEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHH!?" They all collectively shouted at the fact that a little girl's only chance at beat a poison dragon was to EAT it.
"You cannot be serious!" Clover shouted.
"Even I'M not that crazy." Nora shouted as well.
"That's how she's going to attack that monster, BY EATING IT!" Cinder exclaimed in complete unbelievability.
The Poison Dragon soon let go of her as she fell to the ground and began her counterattack.
Maple ran up to the Poison Dragon's leg and began chomping away at it, all while biting off skin as well. "This tastes kinda nasty." Maple said as she held a piece of the Poison Dragon's skin in her mouth, the Poison Dragon's shot a small burst of sludge at her as she then stated. "Hey, I think your breath made it taste better." Maple said while chewing on it. "Not only did it tone down the spice, but it also toned down the pepper flavor." Maple described.
"PEPPER FLAVOR!" Oscar shouted at the comment Maple just gave so casually.
Maple began to continuously eat away at the monster's body with pixels coming off of spots she chewed on, she was eventually at a point where the whole body was disintegrating, from the Poison Dragon finally succumbing to the damage and fading away into nothing, leaving behind a large glowing treasure chest as well.
"She… won…" Gylnda said with a twitching eye. "She was effectively tasked… with… EATING… that abomination… and won." She continued as she took off her glasses and rubbed her brow.
"She's crazy." Weiss muttered.
"That is the most unorthodox form of a counterattack I think I have ever seen." Whitley said as Coco lowered her glasses.
"You got that right kid." Coco agreed.
"Woohoo! I'm victorious!" Maple celebrated as she got another notice, stating… "Acquired [Hydra Eater]. [Poison Immunity] advances to [Hydra]." It also stated that her level had increased to level 18.
"Yeah, I got twenty new status points, which of course, I'll put straight into vitality." Maple said as she examined the Hydra skill she got.
"Because why the hell not." Mercury said, exasperated by her extreme focus on defense.
"Not that anything has proved that strategy to be bad." Ruby said. "She beat that boss all by herself."
"Yeah, by eating it." Blake added.
"This seems cool, it looks like the Hydra Eater skill will let me use all of the Poison Dragon's powers." Maple read the description. "That's so awesome, now I finally have my first real attack skill, and poison magic totally works for me." Maple said to herself. "Because if I poison my opponent, all I have to do is outlast them, and bonus, a treasure chest." Maple ran over to the chest and opened it, as she smiled in amazement at the sight of what was inside.
"ALL of the Poison Dragon's powers?" Glynda asked.
"Wait, there was more to what we saw than just the poison breath?" Ren also asked.
"If there is, then why didn't it try to use them at some point?" Robyn asked.
A notice stating that she had received some new gear came up as she tapped on it, showing its properties in depth. "If it gets broken, it gets stronger and goes back to normal. Wow, it's one of a kind!" Maple said in amazement at what she was reading.
"Well there ya go, so much for looking like a newbie forever." Nora said with a smile.
"Which would mean, I'm the only person in-game who has this?" Maple wondered. "OMG, I am like, the luckiest player ever." Maple was soon seen wearing the new armor she'd gained.
It consisted of a black suit of armor with red accents. It had the crest of a flower, the image of a rose, on the armor's chest piece. With there being a red leotard underneath as well as matching gloves and thigh-high boots. Along with a cloak-like drape with a dark exterior and red underside.
She also had some new weapons, being an ornate shortsword with yellow and red emblem on it, and of course, a large black and red shield with a single red gem on the front of it.
"Wow, it looks amazing!" Velvet commented on the armor's look.
"And I can see a rose emblem on the chest plate and sword, that's so cool." Ruby said with stars in her eyes.
"You know, with that armor under her belt, I bet she'd be great friends with you somehow, Ruby." Yang joked.
Her defensive attributes continued to increase as she did the math in her head, which totaled a grand number of…
"864, really?!" Jaune said, blown away by the numbers of Maple's defense once again.
"This is beyond awesome, I'm gonna keep playing and specialize in defense stats. Don't wanna get hurt, right?" Maple said before logging out.
Later in the real world, Kaede was talking to Risa over her phone. "I know, didn't I tell you it was cool?" Risa asked Kaede.
"It's her friend Risa again." Weiss noted.
"Yeah, but I'm not that good since it's only my second day. When are you gonna be able to come and play with me, Risa?" Kaede asked her.
"It should be fairly soon." Risa told her. "Once our proficiency tests are over, I'll be able to log in, oh, but… make sure that you study for your tests too, if you do want to end up like me and get banned from gaming, right?" Risa asked her.
"Yeah, with the character you've got, I doubt she'd want that." Marrow commented.
"It would set her back a lot, would that actually happen." Penny said.
"Uh… Yeah, that's true." Kaede said.
"Trust me, it sucks." Risa stated before the both of them laughed together.
"Meh, at least they're laughing about it." Port said with a light chuckle.
After Risa's call with Kaede ended, she only sighed. "Aw man, I'm kinda jealous." Risa said as she looked to her side, seeing a pair of trophies sitting by a group of plush toys, with one of the trophies having a small game controller emblazoned onto it. As another wall of comments appeared on-screen before it went black.
"Huh? Is she a really good video game player or something?" Ruby said at the sight.
"I guess so, she must be if she was able to earn something like that." Clover stated.
(Episode 1 END)
And that's it, what did you all think of the first episode of this viewing?" Riaze asked the audience.
"It was pretty slow, but I guess it built up the fact that Maple's a player who's focusing on defensive strategies." Yang said.
"I found the armor at the very end cool, I can't wait to see what she does with it in the future." Ruby commented.
"If she was able to take down a monster like that simply by… eating it, then I guess all I can say to that is that I look forward to seeing how she grows throughout the playing of this game." Ozpin said his piece.
As everyone was saying their opinions on the episode, Riaze had a smile on his face. "That's great, it's what my master was hoping to hear, in all honesty, he wanted you all to see the things humans similar to you do, which inturn, is nothing like what you do in a way. THIS is the growth in spirit I mentioned when you first got here, as you continue to watch these worlds turn, you'll see many things, whether they'd be happy, tragic, or amazingly awe-inspiring, these are the types of moments my master wants to share with you." Riaze told them, shushing them all in with awe at that fact.
"Now then… we will continue, but not before seeing something… a little fun first." Riaze snapped his fingers as the screen lit up again.
...
Okay, sorry I was only able to get this out until now, but there's a good reason for that...
I got sick.
I was in total headache and throw-up swamped agony for about a full day, and even then, I'm suffering from a LARGE amount of coughing both day and night, so much so that I can barely get much sleep at night, and I usually cough myself awake somehow.
Sorry if this didn't turn out the way you all wanted, but regardless... this is the second part of BOFURI episode 1 for RWBY's viewing pleasure.
And I hope you all liked it.
P.S. Keep an eye on my Remnant's of the End fanfic, I'm going to be updating that fanfic with an announcement next time, an IMPORTANT one, which concerns the future of that fanfic, I'll try to post the update tomorrow, but no promises.
