Gumball smiled as sat with Penny at the park, hanging out with her on a date.
The two were telling each other various humourous and embarrassing stories from both recent time and their childhoods.
Usually, they would probably be too embarrassed to re-tell them but seeing as the other was also doing so and since they trusted each other, they felt comfortable enough doing so and were enjoying every moment of their time bonding together.
"and then the lights came back on and turns out, it was my mother!" He giggled.
"What?! You attacked your own mother??" Penny exclaimed."She must have been furious!"
He chuckled. "Nah, she laughed it off and told me she was proud of me for looking after Darwin and Anais."
"Aww, that's so nice of her!"
"I know! Thank God she was okay with it...I was horrified!"
"I would be too if I attacked my own mother! You're so lucky she wasn't mad!" She laughed.
"I know, I thought she was gonna murder me! Literally!" He laughed with her.
As the two continued to laugh Gumball felt a sudden wave of dizziness overcome him as he felt pins and needles in his arms and legs.
He stopped laughing and held onto the side of the bench, his hands beginning to tremble as he began to cry quietly.
Penny noticed and her face turned to one of concern. "Gumball? What's wrong?"
"I...I-I-I don't know..." He began to breathe heavily and hyperventilate as a wave of dread and anxiety hit him. "I...I-I-I'm scared..."
She moved closer and placed her hand on top of his paw. "Hey, hey, it's okay, I'm right here."
He felt his heart race as he began to shake. "I-I'm really scared...I-I-I don't know what's happening!"
"It's okay, just stay calm. Take deep breaths."
"I...I-I-I can't!" He began to panic and Penny noticed his paw had become very sweaty.
"Okay, I-I think you might be having a panic attack. Just...just relax. Deep breaths." She informed him, doing her best to remain calm and collected, though on the inside she too was panicking slightly.
"P-Penny, please, h-help! I'm...I-I-I'm so scared!" He begged her quietly as tears streamed down his face.
She wrapped her arms around him and pulled him into a tight hug as had continued to cry. "It's okay, it's alright, I'm right here." She began to stroke the back of his head.
She let out a gasp of pain as she felt him digging his claws into her back as hard as he could, purely out of fear, but she didn't mind, for she knew he couldn't help it in his current state.
She fought her way past the pain and ignored it as best as she cod as she continued to comfort him, squeezing his paw. "Just take deep breaths with me. In...out...in...out..."
He began taking small breaths with her, trying to remain calm. Slowly but surely his breaths grew deeper.
"There we go, there we go, that's it, just keep taking deep breaths." She smiled reassuringly as he continued to shake. "Just relax, everything is okay...you're alright..."
He sniffed as the tears continued to fall, struggling to speak, his voice very quiet and timid
"I...I-I-I'm sorry! I'm s-so sorry!"
'It's okay, it's quite alright. It's not your fault, you have. nothing to apologize for." She assured him as she continued to stroke his back.
He began to purr to try and calm himself down, which seemed to help as he slowly sheathed his claws, much to her relief, and his shaking began to slow down.
After a couple of minutes, he felt his heart finally slow back down to normal as he continued to listen to the sound of her voice reassuring him constantly. "That's it, you're doing great, just keep breathing, just keep breathing."
He continued to take deep breaths as he spoke his voice back to its normal volume but still sounding broken. "I...I think it's over..."
"Good...good. Just take it easy still. Take it easy."
"What...what was that?" He asked.
"A panic attack. People sometimes have a sudden attack of anxiety and/or fear, just like you did."
"W-Why?"
"I don't know. Were you thinking about anything that might have brought it on?"
"N-no. I was just laughing with you and it came on. I...I was so scared." He sniffed.
She placed her hand on his cheek. "It's okay, it's over now. You're alright."
"Only thanks to you...I had no idea what was happening. I don't know what would have happened if you weren't there...thank you so much Pen."
"You're very welcome! I'm not gonna lie though, I was freaking out myself. I had no idea what I was doing..."
He smiled. "Could've fooled me! You were amazing! You kept so calm and collected, you made me feel so safe and secure. I never would have got through it without you there..."
"Trust me, on the inside, I was panicking just as much as you were. Didn't help you were practically stabbing me with your claws..."
He looked at her back and noticed marks where his claws had previously been digging into her and his eyes widened in horror
"Oh my God, I-I-I'm so sorry! I-I-I didn't mean to hurt you!" He panicked, his ears lowering as a pit of guilt opened in his stomach.
She placed her hand on his paw. "It's okay, don't worry about it, I know you didn't mean it. You couldn't help it, it was a natural reaction." She assured him.
"A-Are you sure?" He seemed unconvinced.
She held both of his paws up. "I promise, it's okay, I'm not mad at you. You're my adorable little Gummy and I know that you would never, ever hurt me on purpose. You're such a softie that you couldn't hurt a fly."
She began to giggle as she remembered something she told him. "In fact, you wanna know how much of a softie you are?" She asked as she wrapped his arms around her and rested on his chest.
He began to blush slightly. "I'm not sure I do..."
She looked up and smirked. "I remember you telling me that you felt so guilty about killing a fly once that you had nightmares where you became one and were attacked by yourself!" She giggled as his blush grew.p
"It was an innocent fly okay! I felt bad!" He defended himself.
She giggled again. "You're such an adorable goofball sometimes, you know that?"
He smiled. "I do my best..."
"Oh, come here!" She raised her head and gave him a kiss.
She sighed happily as she stood up. "Right, come on you, we need to get you home to your mother and let her know what happened!"
"Ugh, do we have to tell her?" He moaned as he took her hand, beginning to walk out of the park with her.
"Of course we do, she's your Mom! She needs to know in case it happens again!"
He rolled his eyes. "Yeah, but she's gonna overreact and fuss over me for hours!"
"That's because she cares!"
"Well, sometimes I think she cares too much!" He chuckled.
The two continued to laugh and argue playfully with each other all the way home, glad to have such a frightening experience behind them, Gumball feeling luckier than ever to have had such a caring, loving girlfriend like Penny with him.
