I swear I didn't forget about this fanfic or any of the others I have. Its been literal years since I've updated, and that's about to change :)

Once the weekend was over, Sugar had to head back to Texas. Their time together was always short, but they made the most of every minute together.

Sugar pulled Brittany in for a hug before she walked into the terminal. "Everything is gonna be okay Britt. Give her that chance to hear you out. I'm sure she's a lot more understanding than you're letting on."

"I just don't want to screw this up yet." Brittany squeezed Sugar a little tighter before letting go. "But I know you're right. When the time is right, I will."

They said their goodbyes once more, and Brittany watched as her friend walked down to security. She had a couple hours until her shift started so she figured she'd get to the firehouse early so she could take a nap. It had been a long weekend but she had no regrets. Sugar always put things into perspective for her and it was always refreshing because she would never beat around the bush. Sugar was straight forward and always got right to the point.

When Brittany pulled up to the firehouse, she saw that Santana was already there. She usually got there early to go through the inventory in the ambulance but when she got into the garage she didn't see her anywhere. When she got into the quarters area, she saw Santana sleeping in the room that was saved for the paramedics.

Quietly, Brittany put her bag down next to the bed and got onto her bed. And slowly she fell asleep.

"Pierce. Hey. Britt. Wake up." Santana was lightly shaking Brittany. Their shift was about to start and they needed to be outside for the change over.

Brittany woke up slightly in a panic. She grabbed Santana's wrist and pulled her arm to the side. When she realized what she was doing, she let go. "Fuck, I'm sorry.. You scared me."

"It's okay don't worry about it okay?" Santana knelt next to Brittany's bed and kissed her on the cheek. "C'mon okay? We gotta get outside. I'm sorry if I scared you. I should've knew better than to do that."

With that, Santana stood up and walked towards the door. "You coming? Or you just gonna stare."

Brittany's cheek got pink as a huge smile stretched across her face. "Shut up man." She started laughing.

Shift was going smoothly.

Truck 5, Squad 20, Ambulance 21. Fire at 51-0212 West Lima Heights.

The firehouse was pumping with adrenaline. Within 5 minutes they were on the move.

Brittany was sitting passenger while Santana drove. It was an apartment building, with the fire engulfing the lower right section. Squad ran in first, with truck following right behind. The girls stood by outside, waiting for their signal to go inside.

It always was amazing to Brittany, how things seemed to go so smoothly when the firefighters were working. Quinn was an amazing LT, and it showed when they worked.

They watched as people were running out of the lobby doors. Coughing, but none were needing any treatment.

Lopez. Get in here. We got a non-ambulatory. Left side of the hallway, 3rd door.

With that they moved. Brittany loved the rush, so once they got through the lobby doors her heart was pounding.

They found the door and went inside.

"Hello? I'm Santana. This is Brittany. We're paramedics with 51. Call out."

"I'm in here." It was a elderly lady who was bedridden.

"We're here to help ma'am. Does anyone else live with you?"

"My husband. But he went to go and grab some things from the grocery store."

The girls moved fast, quickly unplugging her machines and plugging them into the generator they were carrying. They got the lady out in less than ten minutes.

"Nice work ladies. I haven't seen our paramedics look that efficient in a while."

Captain Shuester was standing near the bus as they walked back over.

"Thanks sir." Santana high fived him. "All cause of my girl here."

Brittany blushed slightly, as she raised her hand to high five Santana.

My girl. It had a slight ring to it, and it made Brittany's stomach flutter. She had imagined what those words would sound like coming from Santana, and in all honesty it was so much more than she imagined. It may not have be in the context she was hoping for, but it was something nonetheless.

But what was gonna happen that night, was something that she wouldn't be able to prepare for.
