Carley was rattled. Her mind was running a mile a minute. One second she was thinking of throwing the cabin group under the bus, the next she was thinking of offering her own up to him in their stead. But there was something about that tone Carver used, the way he talked, as if she and everyone else were completely beneath him, just pawns to be played with, that she just couldn't take anymore. Chuck had refused to negotiate, and so would she.
"Take us all." Carley said defiantly. "We're not going down without a fight. If Chuck can't convince you, no one can."
Carver looked down at Carley unimpressed. "No one can convince me? I don't think you understand the position that you're in." Carver reaches for his pistol. "Let me enlighten you."
Carley tried to hide her fear. She really did. She didn't want to give Carver the satisfaction. "Don't you hurt her," Chuck all but commanded. Carver didn't pay him the time of day. All he wanted, Carley presumed, was to relish in any shred of weakness she showed. This was all but a test, she realized. To figure out how useful she and the others would be to him. And as the cold metal barrel of the gun grazed her cheek, she refused to flinch.
"You must either have a gambler's intuition or way too much faith in that shameless little mutiny you're running with. It's almost kinda noble. Reminds me of Sam here. He's been a very good boy." Carley bit her tongue. Commenting on how he'd indirectly called her a bitch wasn't gonna do her any favors. The threat itself was clear. Carver didn't view her as human, just as she had suspected. She was only alive because he deemed it to be so, no matter how sick that thought made her.
It was right about this time, as Shawn was looking over her, that Molly began to stir. She instinctively tried biting him… again. "Will you quit it?" he asked. It was enough to drag Carver's attention away from Carley, placing the gun back in his pants.
"At least the brunette has manners." Johnny said.
Molly heard that one. "Well fuck you too shit for brains." She smirked a bit seeing Johnny flustered. "And you." Her next comments were directed towards Carver. "I promise, as soon as I get out of those binds, I'm gonna cut off your dick and shove it down your throat!"
Carver sneered. He clearly liked Molly even less than Carley. And unlike Carley, the survivor just didn't know when to quit. "Troy!"
A man dressed in camo gear got out of the passenger seat. He looked like a piece of shit, Carley thought. "Yes sir!"
"She's all yours. Just make sure to shut her up." Troy grinned. Carver turned toward Carley again. "If you want to actually make an offer, you know where to find me." Carley could tear her eyes away from Troy, taking off his belt. "And next time, don't waste my time." Carver started walking toward the front of the truck.
Carver started walking toward the front of the truck.
"I'm gonna have fun with you."
Molly tried backing up. It was useless. "I-I, get away from me micro pen - -"
Troy smacks Molly hard enough to knock a tooth out. Too shocked by the taste of blood in her mouth to respond, Troy ties the belt around Molly's head, shoving it in her mouth, gagging her. "If only we were back at my place, I'd be able to show you a good time properly. Guess we'll make due." With that, Troy started pulling down his pants.
Chuck wasn't having any of this, fighting desperately against his restraints. "Molly!" Carley was silent. She knew, just like Chuck, and even the red-head sitting in the back corner, how painful this was going to be to watch. And even worse, for Molly to experience. Carley remembered that drunken night by the campfire where Molly had opened up about what had happened in Crawford, and what Molly needed to do with the doctor to secure the medicine for her sister. This was eerily similar. Except this wasn't an exchange of goods. No. This was just pure evil.
"Yeah, get her! Show her who's boss!" Johnny encouraged. Shawn on the other hand…
He grabbed Troy by the shoulder, putting him back. "Get a grip man! This is wrong!"
If anyone had bothered looking, they'd have seen Carver watching Shawn with interest. "You shut her up man! She's not hurting anyone like that. Please!"
Troy looked back and forth between Shawn and Molly. Carley, Chuck, and the red-head waited with bated breath. Then the man groaned, shoved Shawn off, and pulled up his pants. "I'm hungry."
Shawn, breathing a sigh of relief, grabs a protein bar, what Carely assumes is his rations for the day, and hands it over to Troy. Carley can't help but whisper a quiet "thank you" on Molly's behalf. Not another word was spoken; not another sound made.
"Good," Carver says from the shotgun seat. "Now stay like that. Or else Shawn won't be back there to play hero." And so the ride continued in a palpable silence, giving Carley plenty of time to ponder what she had done to deserve this.
As Lee, Clementine, and Christa discussed the Carver situation, they were approached from behind by Luke. "Lee?"
"What's the matter, man?"
"Pete, Carlos, and I need to talk to ya. It'll only take a second."
Christa nodded. "I'll go check on Rebecca and Alvin." The fact she didn't trust Matthew more than she could throw him went unsaid, even if he was offering food.
Lee looked at Clem. She had no complaints either. Lee shrugged. "Alright Luke, lead the way."
"Great!" Lee followed after the machete wielder, leaving Clementine all alone.
That's when Clementine noticed Nick sitting by himself on the bench next to the station house. He looked like he was lost in thought, like he wanted to just be left alone. That's exactly why she couldn't.
"Hey Nick." He barely acknowledged her. She tried to be witty. "I thought you and Luke were a dynamic duo?" That only made Nick more depressed.
"Sorry Clem." He sighed. "I was just thinking about my mom. And about that conversation from yesterday."
"Oh." She was ready to walk away, give him the space he deserved but…
"I had to kill my mom." Nick admitted. "Sounds weird, doesn't it?" That was the last thing he wanted or needed. "I never actually wanted to go into business with Luke. He pushed me into it, just like he always did with everything. It was some fuckin' plan too. Sold me on it with a case of beer."
Nick didn't even give Clem a chance to respond. He was in his own little world. "We were flat broke within six months, but hey, at least we had fun." He glanced over at Luke. "I wish I was like him. Even after learning his parents didn't make it, Luke kept moving. But I'm not built like that." Nick shook his head. "So, how do you think the others are doing?"
Clem kicked the dirt at her feet. "I'm hoping for the best but - -"
"Yeah, I get that." Nick motioned for Clementine to join him on the bench. She did. It was super uncomfortable. "We're cool, right?"
"Cool?"
"I mean, Am I your friend?"
Clementine thought Nick was a weirdo. Something was up with his body language. Clem couldn't exactly tell what was wrong, but the way he was shuffling was strange. "Where are you going with this?"
Nick took a deep breath. "Do you think Molly likes me?"
"Oh." Clementine had no idea how to answer that.
