"They're cool." Clem states confidently. She looks back at the group, who all look down at her with silent thank you's. She nods back at them. Kenny huffs and stares down the group. There's a bit of tense silence around everyone, the Christmas music in the background being the only other noise outside of the thick wind outside. Nick gives Kenny a glare that the father reciprocates. Lee puts a hand on Clem's shoulder, Ben looks at Duck and the two cringe, Sarita gives her boyfriend a worried glance as her hand slides into his, Pete, Christa and Carlos continue to look defiant of the question and Walt and Matthew look at each other, overwhelmed.
The silence is broken by Luke of all people walking towards the bench, unsheathing his machete and placing it onto the bench. He looks at the cabin group and nods. Nick follows him, putting his rifle on the floor. The others in the group, including Christa, Rebecca, Pete, Carlos and Lee, follow suit. Even Clementine puts her backpack down, containing her pocket knife and various pictures/drawings. Sarita smiles.
"Good. If you'll all follow me, I'll show you where you can sleep." She walks up the stairs, leading the two groups. Kenny waits for Christa, Lee and Clem along with Ben and Duck, the six lagging behind completely. As they walk, Clementine stops fully to admire the lounge. A cozy fireplace, incredibly comfy looking sofas and a coffee table full of art supply. It almost made her feel.. Alive.
"Wanna sit down and talk? I'll show y'all where the beds are later." Kenny offers.
"Sure." Clem giddily replies for the rest of her group. They sit down, Clem sitting between Lee and Kenny while Duck and Christa take other seats. Ben stands, arms folded and a big smile on his face.
The Florida man smirks, rubbing Clem's blood smeared hat. "Still wearin' this dirty old thing, huh?" She smiles back, color coming back to her face in the heat.
"I gotta ask: Ben, what happened to you?" Christa questions, an amused eyebrow raised. The young man blushes. "You used to be a scrawny little dweeb, but now? You look like you could tear a walker in two."
"Thanks, hehe. Well, after Travis.. You know, I told myself I'd get stronger for him, and for the group. That I was gonna make up for everything I had done to him and everyone else, and my family that was probably already dead by working on myself. And so I did. I've got a lot more work to do though." He tightens his fist to his heart heroically.
"That's impressive. Good work, man." Lee praised. Ben smiled back.
"Lee.. your arm. I mean, I knew it had to go, but.. It's wicked." Duck remarks, his voice slightly deeper than it used to be.
"It must have fucking sucked having to save Clem with one arm." Kenny says.
"Save Clem? Ha, she saved me."
He leans forward. "No shit? What happened?"
Lee looks down at Clem. "We went after Vernon, but he had already tried to go after the boat. When he realized we didn't have it, he and the survivor group left."
"Of course." Kenny rolls his eyes.
"All of us made it. To make a long story short, that guy we robbed out in the woods, after the St. John's situation was the bastard who took her."
"You mean that station wagon in the forest? No way."
"We don't like to talk about it.." Clem mutters shamefully. Lee placed his hand over hers assuringly.
"No judgment here, darling. You were a little girl. I'm so sorry. We should have been there to help." Kenny says, tightening his grip on his pants with frustration.
"I'm glad you weren't, otherwise who knows what would have happened to you." Christa replies. There's another silence, however. The group looks.. Somber. They silently grieve their fallen allies, with Kenny assuming the worst for the rest of the main group.
Ben ends up popping the question though. "So.. where are the others..? Molly, Chuck, Omid, Carley? Don't tell me they're all.." He trails off when Christa glares at him and Lee looks down at his feet. Clem can't even look at him. "I'm sorry. It's hard not to wonder, you know?"
"Omid, well.." Lee answered for the group, looking at the crackling embers of the fireplace. He breaks his staring contest with the fire to look at Ben. "He was killed days ago. Poor bastard. We were in the woods during a rainstorm when we were mugged and shot at by bandits. Omid took the shot for Carley and.."
"He saved us." Christa whimpers, wiping away a few tears threatening to spill before clearing her throat and stiffening her shoulders. "He.. he saved us." She places a hand on her stomach.
"And what about the others? These new guys ain't got nothing to do with 'em being gone, do they?" Kenny questions. Everyone looked at Lee again, expecting for their leader to give an answer. While telling the truth was obviously the correct option, it wasn't exactly the safest if the group was going to stay here permanently. Should he tell him about Carver? Chuck's capture? The unknown fates of Carley and Molly? Or the cabin group's involvement in it all? What about Christa's pregnancy..? He looked around before deciding on an answer.
