"We're taking the plane to London!" Harry shouts as he enters the room of requirements.
"And how are we going to find London?" Hermione asks, "And how are we getting everyone else there?"
"Point me charm?" Harry says uncertainty.
"The thestrals of course." Luna says while studying a seemingly blank wall.
"That solves one part but how do we find our way?" Hermione asks.
"Thestrals know where they need to go." Luna says.
"Great, let's meet in the air in half an hour!" Harry shouts as he checks the charges on the engines.
As everyone else rushes out of the room Hermione moves to help Harry prepare the aircraft.
"Good thing we added seats and a proper fuselage." Hermione comments as she takes out the special air costumes her father had sent.
"Yes indeed, I wouldn't fancy flying down to London out in the open." Harry replies as he moves to check the landing gear.
"Even so get your jacket and helmet on, it will keep you warm." Hermione says as she puts on her own jacket.
"I will in a moment." Harry says as he crawls under the plane.
"Anyway, where are we going to land when we get there?" Hermione asks.
"We'll have to land in the park across from number 12, I'm not leaving my baby out on some street in London." Harry says.
"Oh? So we will check on Sirius in person before we head to the ministry?" Hermione asks.
"Might as well, we'll take the Floo to the ministry from there." Harry answers as he crawls out from under the plane.
"Too bad Dawlish blocked the floo here." Hermione comments.
"We should just be happy Umbridge is still missing, I'm sure she would be blocking all castle exits out of spite." Harry says.
"I'm happy no one said anything to the ministry about your little stunt." Hermione says, "You could have gotten into a lot of trouble."
"Everyone was glad to see her gone, the Aurors didn't even ask that many questions." Harry says as he grabs his jacket and helmet.
"Anyway, I'll get the engines started." Hermione says, getting away from the uncomfortable topic of Umbridge's demise.
Soon the propellers were turning and both teens were sitting in the plane ready to go.
"Alright ask the room to remove the wall, we're leaving." Harry says.
"Done, release the brakes." Hermione answers professionally.
The plane quickly took off and the two were flying around the school searching for their peers.
"Why did you have to put my seat in backwards!" Hermione shouted as the plane gained altitude.
"For defense, if we're attacked by broom riders you're our only protection unless we can get beyond their maximum altitude." Harry says back.
The two met the remaining four flying on thestrals soon after and after a quick chat were flying south at a rather pathetic top speed.
"Thestrals really aren't the fastest creatures are they!" Harry shouts as he sadly looks at his underused throttle.
"They're actually quite fast for flying creatures, only hippogriffs and dragons have a faster cruising speed." Luna replies.
"Still." Harry pouts.
"I'm sure you will get a chance to show off later." Hermione reprimands, "In the meantime, keep it down. I'm reading."
"As you wish." Harry says before returning to his brooding.
Harry somehow managed to land in the small park across from number 12 and when they realized two of them didn't know the secret, they simply stunned them and floated them into the house.
"You know, if you're taking a girl on a romantic evening, you should tell me first. I'd have prepared the place with some candles" Sirius says as he notices Harry and Hermione. "Nice outfits by the way."
"Sirius!" Harry shouts, nearly tackling his godfather with a running hug.
"Oof, it's not like I didn't miss you, but what's this all about." Sirius asks.
"Harry had a vision of you being tortured at the department of mysteries, so we were on our way to rescue you." Hermione explains as Harry was too busy holding back his manly tears.
"So you made the right choice of checking first." Sirius says.
"No, he just didn't want to park his 'baby' on some random London street." Hermione says.
"His baby?" Sirius asks.
"The magical aircraft he built." Hermione answers. "Also, do you have the secret, it seems Neville and Luna are still confused."
"Ah I'll handle that." Sirius says extricating himself from Harry and walking off.
"So, now what." Hermione says.
"Well, we know it's a trap, so maybe we should spring it." Harry says. "And I know just who should do it."
"Oh no..." Hermione moans.
Auror Roberts had been having a bad day, and he was stuck at the ministry doing paperwork way past the end of his shift.
"Evening Roberts." A man he didn't recognize from magical maintenance says.
"Good evening." Roberts replies.
"I'm here to fix the leak in the director's office." The man says.
"I'll let you in." Roberts says glad to have even a minute's break.
"Help! Is anyone there!" A voice shouts from the floo.
"Hold on!" Roberts shouts to the man as he leaps to the floo.
"Hello, I just heard something the ministry needs to know." a teens voice says.
"Alright, what is it." Roberts says.
"Call the Minister! I overheard that Dumbledore and his Vigilantes are gathering to attack the ministry down in the department of mysteries, in the prophecies room!" the boy says.
"Are you sure?" Roberts says.
"I'm certain." the boy answers.
"I'll tell the minister, you've done the ministry a great service today if you're right." Roberts answered, but the boy ended the call.
"Great job Neville!" Harry shouts as Neville leaves the Floo.
"Are you sure about this Harry, if you-know-who is really there." Neville mutters.
"No worries, now let's get back to the castle." Harry says, leading the group back out of number 12.
"The prank of a lifetime." Sirius says with tears in his eyes, "Prongs you would be so proud."
"Now, there isn't enough room to take off, so we need to tie these ropes to the thestrals." Harry instructs as everyone scrambles to get going before they are noticed.
"This is a terrible plan." Hermione says.
"It will be fine." Harry replies, starting the engines once more.
Somehow the thestrals managed to pull the plane back into the sky, but it seems that their earlier flight was noticed by the authorities.
"Guys split up, we can't all get caught!" Harry shouts as a police helicopter's searchlight illuminates the plane.
"Alright!" Ron shouts.
"Good luck!" Neville shouts and soon the thestral riders are out of sight.
"Well, now it's time for a show!" Harry says, gunning the engines and going into a dive.
"Harry! What are you doing!" Hermione shouts, eyes wide with terror.
"Losing them!" Harry replies.
The plane raced down to the London streets at a blistering pace, Hermione screaming all the way. And soon they reached the Thames river and flew low along it.
"Looks like we lost them." Harry says, but Hermione had long since lost her voice from the shock of Harry's unique flying style.
Just as they passed under Tower bridge they were again illuminated by a searchlight.
"Unknown aircraft! Fly to 1000 feet and maintain course!" A voice shouts from one of the helicopters.
"Not a chance!" Harry shouts and pulls hard on his stick, pulling a mighty half loop around the bridge and rolled before heading for Elizabeth Tower.
"You can't escape!" the voice shouts.
But to Harry that was just a challenge, and he raced along pulling all sorts of loops and rolls, defying gravity and common sense.
Soon Harry was laughing as he nimbly avoided the helicopters attempts to box him in.
The Grangers were having a good evening, spending the night watching their favorite series on the television, when it was interrupted by a news bulletin from the BBC.
"Breaking News, an antique aircraft is evading police over London." the news gentleman says. "Currently the police have not identified the type and are not sure where it came from."
The picture switches to a live video from a news helicopter showing the biplane looping over a police helicopter before turning to fly around Elizabeth tower.
"Is that the plane Hermione sent a picture of flying around Big Ben?" Mr. Granger asks.
"It looks like it dear." Mrs. Granger replies.
"It looks like she's in the plane as well." Mr. Granger says as the camera gets a closer look and Hermione's distinct hair flies around a familiar leather helmet.
"She's grounded!" Mrs. Granger shouts.
Nigel Westwood found himself responding to the strangest call in his long career as a pilot in the RAF. apparently he was to intercept a 'vintage aircraft' terrorizing London police.
His Tornado was flying wonderfully through the night air, but he was worried that the aircraft would be able to out turn him.
"Harry! That's a jet!" Hermione shouts as a fighter races by them, sending the plane spinning in its wake.
"I see that! I'm getting us out of here." Harry replies, heading down the smaller streets of London.
"Oh no you don't" Nigel mutters as the biplane races though the streets below him. He brings his jet down for another pass, but the biplane simply turns into a side street before any attack could be launched.
"It doesn't have a heat signature!" Nigel shouts, as his missiles couldn't get a lock.
It was a good bit after breakfast before Harry and Hermione landed in the Room of requirement, to a very anxious group of students.
"Where were you?" Neville asks as they land.
"Oh, just evading the RAF." Harry says before collapsing into a nearby chair.
"Never again." Hermione says before falling down next to Harry.
"So, what's the RAF?" Ron asks.
"Some kind of Muggle roofing association I'd think." Ginny says.
"Ah, RAFters. I get it." Ron says.
That evening while everyone was enjoying their dinner a flock of owls arrived in the great hall.
"Looks like an evening edition of the Prophet." Neville comments.
"I guess we'll know the outcome of last night's call." Harry answers as Hedwig lands on Hermione's shoulder.
"Oh, it's a letter from my parents." Hermione says, opening the package, revealing a note and a copy of The Daily Telegraph. "Oh no."
The note read, 'You're grounded.' and the newspaper had an image of a very familiar airplane on the front page.
"Good news!" Neville shouts showing everyone the Prophet.
'You-know-who captured! Scheduled for immediate execution!' it read.
"Just this evening a group of Aurors descended on the department of mysteries after an anonymous tip and discovered Death Eaters, who were defeated and captured by our superior Aurors, as they were leaving the department, they were intercepted by You-Know-Who himself, but were rescued by Headmaster Dumbledore, during the resulting duel Auror Tonks suggested they all stun He-who-must-not-be-named in the back, and the combined stunners of all thirty Aurors defeated the once feared Dark Lord." Neville read.
"That's lucky, good job Neville." Harry says. "And don't worry Hermione, I'll talk to your parents."
"You better! That is all your fault!" Hermione shouts.
AN: An unexpected continuation, as the aircraft develops. How did they escape the RAF? Luck I'm sure, and magic...
