Chapter 12 - Paranoia

Two days had passed, Shinji was lying staring at the ceiling of his cell, the only movement he received was the food that was delivered to him, but just as he received it was returned.

"Why aren't you eating?" His head asked confused, even Shinji didn't know why he wasn't eating.

Shinji lowered his gaze to the ground, he began to think about everything that had happened these two days, but he kept repeating the question his mind had asked him.

Coming to a single conclusion, giving a simple, childish answer. "I'm not hungry."

With a sound of something opening, Shinji looked at the source of the noise, seeing a square object being pushed, judging that it must now be lunch time, Shinji closed his eyes and let out a sigh, being in the dark of his mind again.

His mind was at peace during these two seconds that he had kept his eyes closed, with no memories to torment him, no screams from his guilty mind, no looks he had received from the people who were most important in his life.

"Monster."

Lying on his bed Shinji opened his eyes slowly, staring at the ceiling again, soon the feeling of sadness flooded his head and body, giving another annoyed sigh, these two days he had been in Wunder were not being easy for him, not being able to sleep and the few hours of sleep he got before were now no longer possible.

Again giving a bored sigh, Shinji stood up, knowing that if he stayed lying down, his mind would not leave you alone, and walked slowly to the container that contained his food.

Looking at the object he had received, Shinji observed a set of folders, soon his mind brought back images of his times in Misato's apartment, the meals he prepared for everyone, Misato's lunch before she went to NERV to work, the bentos he prepared for him and Asuka for the school day.

"Baka!" Shinji mimicked Asuka's voice in his head as he remembered her always reminding him not to forget to prepare something decent for his taste buds, but soon this memory that should be happy, something that would bring him pleasure to be reminded of.

With a scowl forming on his face, Shinji soon came back to reality, still looking at the plastic container containing his lunch, giving a dejected sigh, Shinji could scream and complain all he wanted, but he would love to be able to have one last lunch with Misato and Asuka like the old days.

Picking up the tray with one hand, Shinji soon returned to his bed, his eyes still locked on its contents, trying to guess what the different colored folders in front of his eyes were made of.

Picking up one of the cutlery, again being plastic, Shinji looked at it, knowing that it was just in case, Wunder didn't want him to use it if it wasn't for eating.

Remembering his time in prison, Shinji quickly knew that if he could turn this small object into a powerful knife, he could get out and try to escape from Wunder.

"I guess so." His mind laughed at the thought Shinji got. "Like your movements aren't being monitored twenty-four hours a day."

Shinji nodded to himself, he knew that escaping from Wunder bordered on the impossible, feeling the big ship moving and judging that they were going to get Unit 01 and them having his unit in their hands, the chances of him getting close to her again were almost impossible.

Taking a small portion of the yellowish colored paste, Shinji slowly brought it close to his nose, taking a small sniff to try to identify what it was, as he got a small fragrance of what it was meant to be.

"What the fuck is that?" Shinji wondered as he pushed the folder away, maintaining a look of disgust as he looked at the contents once again.

Still keeping a wary expression, Shinji took the contents into his mouth, he quickly remembered NERV's food, the taste was horrible.

"It tastes like shit." Shinji spoke as he wanted to spit it out, but he felt his stomach complaining, he hadn't eaten in two days and this was already making his body feel the effects of it.

"Better than nothing." His mind spoke as he could taste the repulsive taste of food, but soon he brought up images where he had nothing to eat, feeling his stomach screaming for food and having nothing to satiate that agony, the days where he had to travel great distances only using the strength of his legs and without the energy that food could bring, the effort was twice as hard to accomplish.

Again feeling sorry for his taste buds, Shinji took another serving into his mouth, trying his best not to have to concentrate on the taste, swallowing the food as if he were swallowing dirt.

Soon Shinji's culinary mind got to work, being a nervous tick still alive about the old days, this was something Shinji hadn't been able to adjust to, it wasn't his fault, but he knew how to cook and that was something he would never unlearn, thinking of all the ingredients he would use to make this food edible.

Immediately images of the crew having to eat this food popped into his mind, frowning at this.

"How can the crew eat that?"

"Your fault." His mind soon replied, in a scornful voice, this was a subject that was always on his mind, every day he remembered what he had done.

Stopping the spoon midway, Shinji seemed to have frozen in place, his head being flooded with memories of the third impact, especially his awakening, he gently lowered the spoon back onto the tray.

With a downcast sigh, Shinji closed his eyes as he remembered that it was his fault that the people who survived were in this condition, he remembered again the looks he had received from people, everything that had happened soon after.

"It wasn't my fault." Shinji spoke dejectedly. "Not entirely."

Again trying to clear the mental image of what he had done, Shinji again went back to eating, only having his nightmares as memories, only this time, he was no longer tasting the bad food.

"You say you are not guilty, so why all this guilt?" His mind spoke as he felt his head wanting to go back to self-righteousness, but this time it was different.

In all the years that Shinji had been away from the people who shared his daily life, he had managed to keep these feelings at bay, but all his efforts were in vain these two days, it seemed that all his psychological protection barriers were not being enough to contain the feelings, something was happening inside Shinji's mind.

Shinji stopped eating, looking at the partially consumed tray on his lap, he still wondered this constantly these past few days, even in his days of isolation in the red earth, the days he stayed alone in the apartments he entered to shelter from the weather.

Looking for arguments all the time to make himself feel better, but he always ended up facing reality, whenever he opened his eyes, the answer was always there, always hovering in front of him with a big reminder in bright red.

"You may not even be guilty, but it doesn't change the fact that you caused the third impact, you may not even have intended to do it, but you still did it." Shinji whispered to himself, as if he was hearing these words from someone else.

With a heavy sigh, Shinji looked again at the door to his cell, remembering his times in prison, his mind soon began to compare the locations, having been left with an individual scene due to his "dangerousness", he often caught himself looking at the wall hoping it would open, having the image Misato or anyone else from his former close circle rescuing him from hell.

Many times his mind fantasized about the image of Asuka opening the prison wall like a red valkyrie offering him her hand, finally delivering him from the eternal suffering that was being his life.

But he always fell back into reality, he wouldn't be saved, he wouldn't have a voice telling him that everything would be all right, he would only receive nothingness, like every time he closed his eyes, every time he stood around darkness he was reminded of who he was.

Still catching himself staring at the white metal door, Shinji returned to his reality, the reality was that this door would never open the way he would like it to, he was doomed to solitude within four thick walls.

Lowering his gaze again to the tray, Shinji felt that he would not be able to eat anything more, all the memories managed to suppress the desire to eat, with a bored sigh, he walked back to the door, again placing the tray that would be waiting for his collection.

Turning slowly to the bed, Shinji looked at the security camera that followed him everywhere he went in his room, looking at the center of the lens, soon Shinji's troubled mind began to work.

Feeling some anger rising in his chest, Shinji was soon flooded with ideas, ideas that his mind had produced, ideas that he refused to see how absurd they were.

Putting a sadistic smile on his face, Shinji spoke directly to the object in question.

"Hello Wunder crew." Shinji spoke as he pretended to be holding a microphone in his hands, maintaining the fake posture of a television show host. "I come to announce that broadcaster WILLE has managed to renew for a second season its most acclaimed program."

Bowing falsely to nothing, Shinji adjusted himself and spoke still maintaining his theater. "And that show is." At this moment Shinji changed his posture, turning somber again. "Shinji Ikari, the assassin ... Will he now be stopped?"

Shinji stopped what he was doing, realizing how ridiculous he was looking, lowering his arms and closing his eyes, again fighting the urge to cry, images of Misato and Asuka popped into his mind, both were standing next to each other and speaking a single sentence.

"I care about you." Both spoke in sync, perfectly their voices came together and they spoke in perfect sync.

Shinji at this moment shook his head and spoke into nothingness. "No, they don't mind."

Walking to his bed, Shinji lay down and turned to face the wall, feeling his body screaming for a few hours of sleep, he could only pray that he would get it, he closed his eyes and waited to be able to enter the dream world.

Again he was standing looking at the wall, keeping his eyes firmly in place, soon he could feel a hand on his shoulder, frowning at this, his mind screamed that this must be some kind of game his mind was playing.

Feeling a force pulling him, soon he was looking at the fountain, his eyes widened, beside the bed were two people, and those people were Misato and Asuka.

"Up!" Misato spoke strongly, she had a strong scowl on her face, Asuka stood beside her with her arms crossed over her chest, Shinji could see that she was holding a metal object, and that object was her trusty Beretta 9mm.

"Come on!" Misato ordered as she closed her fists, Shinji only stared at the two with confused eyes, he was remembering the encounter, even though it had been a bit tense.

Getting up slowly from the bed, Shinji lowered his gaze to the floor as he stood up completely, soon his gaze had fallen on Misato and Asuka. "Well?"

He felt a strong punch to his face, making him walk backwards and feel the wall of the cell against his back, raising his gaze he could see Asuka lowering her arms, he could see all her anger.

Feeling his mouth hurting from the impact, Shinji noticed another set of people entering the room, they were all WILLE soldiers, seeing what was happening, Shinji quickly adjusted, feeling his body starting to feel anxious.

"What's happening?" Shinji asked confused, deep down he could already sense that it was about to happen, but he refused to accept it, remembering Misato's words in his interrogation that he had done.

"That's easy to explain." Ritsuko entered the small cell having the space being opened by the soldiers, soon Shinji's eyes passed to the person who was leaning against the door frame, his eyes widened as he met Rei's.

Looking at his sister, Shinji was feeling strange, as her previously expressionless eyes now conveyed the feeling of anger and disappointment.

Ritsuko stopped beside Misato, seeing Shinji's gaze on Rei, she quickly spoke smiling, "She's our soldier now, not a disappointment like you."

"Disappointment?" Shinji repeated, deep down he was feeling dejected at these words, even though he had told Misato that his time at NERV were bad, deep down he had felt that he had done something good in his life.

"Yes Ikari." Misato spoke as she crossed her arms over her chest, she kept her posture cold, the same as she had when she met Shinji again, removing her glasses and staring Shinji in the eyes, he could see all her hatred.

"You had always been a disappointment, it was never necessary." Misato spoke bitterly. "You were only good for piloting unit 01, which only worked with you and which you proved to be useless or did you really think you were needed for anything?"

Shinji felt tiny about Misato's gaze, his hands were shaking with anxiety and from her heavy words, he wanted to cry listening to this, but the tears weren't coming. "But ... But what about what you said at that meeting?"

Misato gave a small smile on her face, she was feeling really happy to see the suffering on Shinji's face, knowing that it was hurting Shinji.

"That?" Misato spoke as she slowly approached Shinji, keeping her arms crossed the whole time, maintaining a steely gaze at all times. "It was just theater."

Shinji lowered his gaze, he was thinking about it a lot, part of his mind was believing her words saying that she cared about him in the end, it was wrong as usual.

"Did you really believe it brat?" Asuka spoke sadistically, pointing Shinji's gun at him, she could see the look of sadness on his face. "That was just to get the location of Unit 01."

"No." Shinji whispered to himself as he stared at the ground, his mind screaming at him that he should never have believed it.

"That ... That's exactly what happened." Rei spoke into the doorway, keeping wearing a monotone voice making it more frightening.

Shinji raised his head and stared at her in shock.

Rei seeing this continued. "I will pilot, you have fulfilled your role very well by giving her to us again, we now have three EVAS."

"But..." Shinji started to speak, but had been told off by Rei who raised her voice, becoming more annoyed.

"But nothing!" Rei spoke as she stepped away from the doorframe. "I will not allow an Ikari to cause more harm to the world."

Shinji lowered his gourd, he just remained silent.

"So Ikari." Misato spoke as she called out to Shinji, seeing that he didn't move she decided to speak anyway. "You told me about your biggest regret, and I'll tell you about mine."

"My biggest regret was taking you into my home." Misato spoke cruelly, watching Shinji's shoulders shake at her words, "It was spending my time with a disappointment like you."

"Misato please." Shinji spoke to his former guardian, but his words seemed not to reach Misato's ears.

"Really I thought you were different from your father, but I can see that you are not." Misato spoke as she headed toward the wall, bracing her back and signaling for her men to adjust.

Shinji only raised his head and watched as a small group of three men made final, Shinji knew what was going to happen.

"That is your punishment." Misato spoke as she gestured again, the three men stood in position, resting their rifles on their shoulders and waiting for the order, everyone was looking at Shinji as a highly anticipated show.

"If it's any consolation, I never wanted you in my life." Misato spoke as she gestured with her hands, soon the three soldiers pulled their triggers, three shots echoed through the cell.

Shinji had been thrown backwards as he felt the rounds penetrating his body, feeling the pain of being hit by three shots, he had slowly been falling, as he was sitting on the ground and struggling to breathe, he watched as Asuka approached him, ignoring the blood that was pooling on the ground, she looked coldly at him.

Raising the gun and aiming it at Shinji's head, she spoke coldly and with a smile on her face. "Brat, go to hell." With a final pull, Asuka fired the gun ending Shinji's life.

Gasping heavily, Shinji sat up in bed, feeling the sweat on his skin, he soon looked around and at the places where he had been hit, bringing his hand to his face he whispered. "It was a dream, it was just a dream."

"But the feeling is real, that's how they think." His sick mind spoke sadistically.

"No." Shinji held his head and spoke to calm himself. "It can't be."

(*)

In her office, Misato was looking at the security video feed from Shinji's cell, she watched crestfallen Shinji struggling on the bed and screaming, knowing he was having a horrible nightmare by the way he was struggling.

Wanting to go over and console her, hug him and show it that she wasn't lying in saying she cared about him, but she didn't know how, it was draining Misato's energy.

With a tired sigh, Misato brought one of her hands to her forehead. "Shinji ... What am I going to do with you?"

Soon the Wunder commander brought both hands to her head and clasped them tightly as she closed her eyes tightly, her mind was flooded with memories that had long been buried.

"What the fuck Shinji!" Misato growled as she lifted her head from her hands, but she kept her eyes closed.

"You don't care, never have, and never will." Shinji's cold voice echoed through Misato's head.

Shaking her head to clear these words, Misato was making a great effort to keep herself whole in these two days that had passed since her meeting with Shinji.

"At least he ate today." Misato's mind spoke to her, keeping her tone of voice calm and serene.

"Yeah, at least he ate." Misato spoke to no one as she slowly opened her eyes, she was still formulating a way to get closer to Shinji again, but she was never getting an answer.

Soon her mind was bombarding her with reasons and accusations, knowing full well what answer she had to give herself, the truth was that Shinji did not trust Misato, this was a reality that was bothering the purple haired woman a lot.

"How can I make you understand?" Misato whispered thinking of a way to get to speak civilly to Shinji again.

Having the possibility of him ending up as a member of her crew with the agreement the high council of WILLE was wanting to propose, even though the matter had not yet been addressed in an open manner, something in the back of Misato's mind was screaming saying that this would be a reality, that Shinji was going to be within her life again, his talents could not be thrown away by WILLE, in this day and age, all help would be welcome.

But the reality was certain, would Shinji cooperate? Would he agree to fight alongside the people who had condemned him? What would it be like with the crew? Misato was beginning to feel her brains burning with the questions she would never be able to formulate an answer to, but the main question was. Would she be able to get Shinji to see her as before? Not like her father.

Misato soon felt the image of Gendo Ikari coming into her face, shuddering at the possibility that she was being compared to him in these times. Knowing that she had changed a lot since the third impact, this world had turned cruel, but would that justify taking actions like she had already taken? Could a war be used as an excuse for such acts of cowardice and dishonor? Could all this behavior be explained away?

Misato again let out a long sigh as she felt her mind working, desperately wanting to clear those thoughts, hoping for any sign from heaven to ease his troubled mind, but that sign never came.

Closing her eyes again, Misato whispered dejectedly. "Am I doing the right thing?"

Misato asked herself this question, how in all those years she was serving for WILLE, was she doing the right thing? Misato asked herself again, desperately trying to find the answer.

But as before she was never coming, this was causing her anger to begin to grow, feeling her fists closing tightly to the point of hearing her knuckles crack, Misato opened her eyes and stood up, opening the door to her office and walking with accelerated steps to the bridge.

With her footsteps echoing strongly, everyone on the bridge already knew that Misato was coming for them all swallowed dryly and went back to work, they didn't want to get in Misato's crosshairs.

Misato stopped at the upper palanquin of the Wunder bridge, taking a good look at the red horizon rather than the dozens of caverns, crossed her arms in annoyance at her thoughts.

Hyuga was at his console, looking at the results of the sensors trying to find where Unit 01 might be hiding, but this was already looking like a repeat activity, because every time the searches were revealing nothing, many were beginning to doubt that Shinji had delivered the location.

With a sharp beep, Hyuga turned his attention to the screen, seeing that something would be inside one of the deep red earth caves, he soon began to do his analysis.

Shigeru looked up and watched Hyuga begin to work, making movements he was not making before, he judged that he must have found something, leaning forward and asking his former friend.

"What's up, anything?" Shigeru asked hopefully.

"It's weak." Hyuga spoke as he typed command on his keyboard. "But it's better than nothing."

Assenting and watching his colleague work, he could soon see Hyuga's gaze brighten in satisfaction, watching his friend turn and speak. "I'll send it to you."

Shigeru received the files, looking through and analyzing them as best he could, feeling satisfied with the information. "Well, it's definitely humanoid its shape."

Hyuga looked at his friend and listened to him speak smiling. "Tell her."

"Why me?" Hyuga asked as he lost the color of his face, he was afraid he would end up passing the wrong information to Misato who looked somber.

Shigeru gave an arrogant smile and spoke. "You found it, that's your bomb."

Hyuga only looked at Misato, feeling his blood freeze he would have to hand over this information to his superior, but judging by her dark and aggressive posture, she was not in a good mood.

Hyuga having the information he wanted, turned and looked at Misato's rigid posture in the upper palanquin, he swallowed dryly at the sight. "Colonel ... Colonel Katsuragi."

Misato was so focused on her world and her doom that she didn't hear Hyuga's call, she just stared at the red horizon while her mind sank into her biggest problem, that was Shinji.

"Ma'am." Soon Hyuga's voice had been able to break her trance and she stared at him coldly, responding gruffly. "What?"

Hyuga shuddered at Misato's voice, but he decided to cut to the chase, Shigeru was trying to look invisible in his place, again feeling his throat dry, he spoke as best he could. "We have something."

"Good." Was Misato's cold reply, she turned and picked up her communicator to talk to Ritsuko who was in the EVAS cage working on repairs. "Bridge to Ritsuko."

"It's me." Ritsuko's voice echoed across the bridge.

"We have something on sensors. Can the EVAS be implemented?" Misato asked as she formulated a plan to retrieve Unit 01 from the cave, they would have no way to remove it without the help of the EVAS.

"Technically yes, they can do that job in the condition they are in." Ritsuko spoke again, the EVAS were being repaired quickly, but they were short on manpower and resources.

"Well, get the deployment ready, we have a possible location." Misato spoke coldly as she closed the radio.

She turned and went back to her crew, looking coldly at everyone, she spoke. "Battle stations level three."

(*)

Cages of EVAS.

"Well, get the deployment ready, we have a possible location." Misato spoke coldly as she closed the radio.

Ritsuko just watched the line go silent, looking at the communicator with slightly wide eyes just waiting for more, but soon she judged that she finished what she wanted to talk about.

"Okay." Ritsuko put down the communicator and turned her vision a to the EVAS, having in front of her Asuka's red EVA, she had assigned for Maya to be in charge of the recovery of Mari's EVA 08, since the situation was not that serious.

Ritsuko knew that Maya was the most qualified person for the job, she could easily fix the two Evangelions that WILLE had, but right now they didn't have the luxury of time and resources to do so.

Soon an alarm sounded, seeing the monitors showed that Wunder was now on level three alert, soon Asuka would appear and stand by her EVA.

"Rei!" Ritsuko turned to her helper, she could see that the blue haired girl was pensive, suspecting that something was causing her helper to look stranger than usual.

Rei snapped out of her train of thought as she heard her superior calling her, keeping her gaze monotone the whole time, but the reality was that Rei couldn't remove Shinji from her mind, she wants to be able to talk to him again.

"Ma'am."

"I had to call you twice." Ritsuko spoke as she turned around and saw the work of the technicians in getting Unit 02 operational again.

Locking her eyes on the workers adapting a Jet Alone unit to function as a body to get the red giant operational again, but the truth was that it would never have the mobility and strength of an ordinary EVA again, its mechanical parts didn't come close to the biomechanical action of a real arm, but it could be something in this war.

Rei pondered the idea of speaking out, still not knowing what it would cause her superior, knowing that she could no longer keep it a secret that she was having the return of memories she did not remember experiencing.

"Ma'am." Rei spoke into Ritsuko's back, she didn't know if she was listening or not, but decided to inform her superior. "There is something going on with me."

Ritsuko frowned at this, turning around and staring Rei in the eye. "What do you mean?"

Rei kept her steely gaze. "I'm having memories that I don't remember experiencing."

Ritsuko only stared at her with a thoughtful look, but soon her mind began to work, especially her scientific side, leaning on the railing, Ritsuko crossed her arms and waited.

Rei judged that she was waiting for more information. "I'm having memories, with people I don't know and places I've never been."

Ritsuko just stood still, with only the sound of technicians working and small talk being played out, but this was not being noticed by the scientist, she was thinking about Rei's words.

With a sigh, she reached for a cigarette and promptly lit it, bringing her hand to her forehead as she thought, she knew that the Ayanami types had a connection that she had not yet understood and speaking in a tired voice. "Are you sure it wasn't a dream?"

Rei had thought about this, having asked herself the same question many times, but she didn't have the satisfactory answer she wanted, this was making her unhappy, as she was becoming uncomfortable with this, knowing that these new feelings and mixed with memories.

"I do." Rei began to speak as she lowered her eyes. "The dreams are different, these images are real, as if I have lived it myself."

Letting out a large cloud of smoke, Ritsuko only closed her eyes to think, she gave a long sigh. "Since when is this happening?"

"It's been a few months now." Rei replied directly.

"God Rei." Ritsuko growled upon hearing this, not believing that it had taken her so long to say it. "Why didn't you report this before!?"

Rei thought about the answer, she herself didn't know why she hadn't told the truth earlier, but soon a memory came up, "I hadn't gotten the opportunity, you or the commander were always with your duties, so I had reported it to pilot Makinami, I thought she would report it to you."

Ritsuko fumed upon learning that Mari already knew said before her, feeling anger taking over her limbs, Ritsuko growled. "Mari already knew!?"

"Yes." Rei answered directly, she couldn't understand why Ritsuko was irritated, but decided to leave it to ask another time.

"Listen to something Rei." Ritsuko spoke as she calmed down enough. "When all this is over, we're going to have a talk, I'm going to want to know everything, understand?"

Rei only nodded, Ritsuko seeing this decided to continue. "You will tell me everything you say you remember and when you have new memories you will report them to me immediately, that is an order."

"Yes ma'am." Rei spoke professionally as she faced Ritsuko back.

"Good." Ritsuko only stared at her with a cold stare and soon her gaze fell on Asuka entering the EVAS hangar.

"What the fuck is that?" Asuka spoke as she pointed to her beloved red EVA, feeling indignant at the new appearance, only the torso and straight arm of EVA 02 had been left after she activated the self-destruct, the rest was a jumble of painted metal.

"That." Ritsuko spoke dismissively as she pointed to the new EVA 02. "That's your EVA."

Asuka only gave Ritsuko a look of disgust, she hopes that her unit would be shaped like an EVA, not that it would look like a robot patched together with duct tape.

"Better than nothing don't you think." Ritsuko spoke as she went back to reading her tablet. "If 'it' wasn't possible, the only place Unit 02 would go is the trash."

Asuka only stared at Ritsuko's back, wanting to punch the sub-commander for speaking with complete lack of respect to her unit that had saved Wunder's skin many times before. "Have more respect!"

Ritsuko just ignored it, having no head for Asuka's tantrums, deep down she was thinking about Rei's words, this was being very unusual for an Ayanami guy, none before had this behavior.

(*)

Red Earth.

With a loud thud, the two Evangelions units stood up and looked around, they could see Wunder standing in the sky.

Asuka was inside her input plug, thinking about the gambit so she could get her EVA back, feeling the nerve connection only at the points where her EVA survived, with a growl, Asuka was about to complain when Mari's voice echoed through the comm.

"Ah!" Mari cried out with satisfaction as she was back in her EVA, feeling the freedom it represented. "That's really good!"

Asuka only rolled her eyes, still trying to digest that her EVA would never be like before, feeling the movement slower and the response slower. "Scheisse. "

"What's wrong princess? Didn't you like the present?" Mari asked with a smile on her face, she already knew that Asuka must have been very irritated by the condition her EVA was in. "Who said not to behave, Santa has eyes everywhere."

Asuka only rolled her eyes at Mari's off-the-cuff jokes, she only growled indignantly. "Grow up four eyes!"

She only got a giggle from Mari, but she could swear this would not be the end, she was very happy and when she was happy, her teasing never ended.

This was true, Mari was very happy, she was back in her EVA, Shinji was back and everything was going as she had planned, she just had to bring Shinji back into the light. "What is it princess? I know, that's not what you asked for Christmas."

Asuka could feel Mari's smile growing, she just had to wait, soon her eyes widened at what Mari said.

"I know what you asked ..." Mari paused to bring her best smile. "You want a certain puppy wrapped for a gift, to have him dominate you with his strong arms and hold you tight in bed while you both scream their names in ecstasy of pleasure."

Blushing heavily as she imagined the scene, Asuka wanted to scream, but the words wouldn't come out, she only stuttered as she blushed heavily, Mari had taken it too hard.

Laughing openly, Mari could imagine Asuka's face petrified at this, she knew she had won, looking at the cave in front of her, she controlled herself enough to speak. "We have our cave, let's go retrieve a brave dog."

Asuka finally came out of her mental stupor, looking at Mari walking away, she only gave a glance at the back the EVA 08 walking away, still thinking about Mari's words about Shinji, did she want him this way?

"Princess?" Mari called out as she bent down to look inside the cave, causing her EVA butt to stick up as she balanced herself to look inside the large cave. "Is my EVA's butt still nice?"

Asuka shook her head, speaking boredly to Mari. "Let's get it over with right away. "

Laughing, but soon Mari ordered her EVA deeper into the cave, looking around for any sign of another EVA, "It's too dark in here."

Activating the enhanced vision of EVA 08, Mari could see a dazzle of something big, she wanted to get in deeper, but was afraid of getting stuck inside, knowing that EVA 02 was too big to get in to rescue her.

"Well? Did you find it?" Misato's voice flooded through Mari and Asuka's entry plug.

Mari was looking around for anything, she was getting chills from the cave.

"Where are you?" Mari spoke as she reached out, having felt something.

Already almost giving up, Mari was ready to say she hadn't found anything when she felt her hand touch something, "Whoa."

"What is it?" Asuka asked as she listened.

"I touched something." Mari spoke smiling, groping to try to decipher what it was. "He's big and the cylindrical shape."

Blushing at the description, Asuka growled. "Four eyes, this is no time for your perverted jokes."

Mari smiled, it wasn't her intention, but she can't deny that it would come in very handy. "I didn't talk about it, then I'm the one with the perverted mind, I bet you thought about the puppy's."

Asuka blushed again, but before she could retort she heard a shout coming from Mari.

Mari was waiting for the answer when she looked forward, seeing Unit 01's eyes glowing in stark white, it took Mari by surprise to see Unit 01's huge face looking directly at her, it made her blood run cold, with a small scream she jumped backwards.

"What was it Four eyes?" Asuka asked as she approached the cave, she could see EVA 08's legs from outside.

"Mari! Report?" Misato ordered as she heard Mari's small cry.

Mari returned to her normal, seeing Unit 01's face go inactive again, she pulled herself together and spoke trying to control her voice. "I found the batcave."

Asuka looked down at the ground, knowing that Unit 01 was right below her at this moment, she didn't know why, but she felt like she was being watched, it made the coldest of chills run down her spine.

"Well, extract and come back, we're already overexposed." Misato ordered.

"Okay, how do we get you out of there?" Mari spoke as she managed to find one of EVA 01's legs, trying to come up with a strategy for how she was going to remove EVA from the cramped cave.

But she began to feel a small vibration, frowning as she put her hand on the wall. "Princess ... Do you feel that?"

Asuka also began to feel the vibration, she started to look around for anything, "Misato, we have a vibration."

After a few seconds, Ritsuko's voice spoke. "It's nothing, geological event."

Mari only shook her head, but soon the vibration returned and with a loud pop, she heard a sound of glass breaking. "Princess what's going on out there?"

Asuka watched as an AT field wall broke through, looking on with shock when a Unit Mark. 09 appeared in the background, Asuka looked at the enemy. "We have a situation here."

Mari already knew what that would be, slowly crawling out and looking at the shape of the enemy walking toward them. "Well, we have three against one."

Asuka only glanced back at her enemy, they had the upper hand, but a fight was a fight.

"Stay defensive, the EVAS are not ready to fight yet." Misato ordered over the radio, Asuka and Mari could feel the tension in his voice.

Mark 09 still quietly with his scythe, as if he were walking through a grove of flowers, but soon he stopped as he looked at Wunder and the EVAS standing still.

Wunder

"Battle stations level one!" Misato ordered, soon she could see the whole movement of the technicians running to their seats, she shook hands with the battle in front of her, even though they were at a numerical advantage, she remembered the battle before, how they had been saved by Shinji.

"When they are in range, fire with penetrating ammunition!". Misato ordered her crew, but soon a voice gained intonation.

"He's advancing rapidly!" Sumire shouted, soon her eyes and Misato locked on Mark 09 running toward them.

"We can't let them take Unit 01!" Misato shouted, looking at the moving target, picking up her radio again and talking frantically, she could hear Wunder's cannons firing.

"Mari ... Asuka!" Misato shouted as he saw the shots raising the red earth, watching as Mark 09 nimbly dodged the shots. "Don't let him get Unit 01!"

"Don't let him get Unit 01!" Mari and Asuka listened to Misato speaking frantically, they watched as Mark 06 dodged the shots.

Asuka adjusted herself in her seat, picking up a progressive knife and waiting, she could feel her blood pumping hard in her veins. "Four eyes, do your flanking!"

She only saw the shape of EVA 08 moving away, she could see that this would not be easy, her EVA was not ready, they were only implemented to recover Unit 01, looking at her controls, Asuka whispered to EVA 02. "Come on my love."

Running and dodging, soon Mark 09 took a leap toward the heavens, gracefully dodging Wunder's shots, he was having no trouble defending himself.

Soon the shots were getting scarcer, seeing Wunder starting to maneuver to get more advantage with the shots, he would get the opportunity he would like.

Falling back to the ground, a large cloud of dust rose up, soon his eyes locked on the EVAS around him.

"You can come!" Asuka shouted as she clenched her knife, she could see when Mark 09 ran towards her, she knowing her disadvantage, raised her best defense.

Running and raising his scythe, Mark 09 was putting a lot of energy into his blow.

With a calculated leap, Asuka moved her EVA backwards, seeing her enemy's weapon latching on the ground with a loud thud, seeing the opportunity, Asuka raised the knife swung forward, seeing sparks leaping in the air as her knife hit her strong armor.

Seeing her moves have no effect, Asuka could feel her weaker EVA, the mechanical parts were no match for a real EVA. "Four eyes!"

"I'm coming!" Mari shouted as she sent her EVA running, seeing Asuka trying to land her blows, Mari quickly tried to jump. "Ah!"

Asuka saw the giant Pink jumping up with the knife pointed down, hoping to be able to do some damage.

Mark 09 looked up and took a step back, seeing the pink giant falling to the ground, Mark 09 tried to lift his leg and deliver a powerful kick to the side of EVA 08's head.

Asuka seeing EVA 08 rolling down, Asuka raised her gaze again to her enemy. "Damn you!"

Moving towards the enemy, Asuka began to deliver blows quickly, seeing Mark 09 using his scythe to block and try to attack, Asuka was already starting to get frustrated. "Four eyes get up!"

Seeing Mari getting up and returning to the fight. "Take that!"

Having to divide his attention between two enemies, Mark 09 stood between the two giants, nimbly dodging the blows of Asuka and Mari who were together trying to stop the enemy.

"He's fast!" Mari spoke as she saw her blows being blocked, she tried to punch Mark 09, but she saw him blocking with his arm and returning the punch, but she couldn't be fast enough, the blow hit her face, feeling her nose bleeding from the impact.

"Son of a bitch!"

Asuka was the same, with the slower movements of her patched EVA, Asuka could feel the difference, soon she tried to take a stab at Mark 09's eye area, but she saw it when he punched Mari and turned his attention to Asuka.

"What was that freak!?" Asuka growled as she tried again to stab her target.

But with one swift movement, Mark 09 held Asuka's hand who could feel the grip, jerking to get free, she watched him deliver another kick to the face of EVA 08 who was left slumped on the ground, Mark 09 was second him to the ground with his foot.

"Let go of me!" Mari screamed as she punched her enemy's leg, feeling her EVA becoming more and more fixed on the ground with the force of Mark 09's grip on her chest.

Asuka watched as Mark 09 released his scythe and landed a powerful punch to her EVA's face, frowning at the nervous return, Asuka felt the pain of being punched straight in the face, but before she could focus, another punch was delivered.

With her mind clouded by the blows, Asuka felt her consciousness closing in, she knew these blows were strong, but soon she felt a vibration coming from the ground, but she thought it was her imagination.

Mari was doing the best she could, she was watching Mark 09 hitting Unit 02's face hard, loud thuds could be heard, fearing for her sister, Mari began to despair. "Let go of me damn it, let go of my sister!"

Soon the shaking on the ground intensified, Mari watched in confusion as a purple energy beam came out of the ground, passing through her side and hitting its target, Mari watched as the beam hit in smelt her enemy's shoulder removing his limb.

Feeling the grip loosening, Mari watched EVA 02 stagger backwards, soon her gaze fell on the unbalanced and now armless Mark 09, dizzy from the sudden attack, seeing the opportunity, Mari stood up and quickly grabbed the scythe from Mark 09.

Running towards the enemy, Mari raised her weapon and hit him full on, seeing the scythe penetrating the target's flesh, she soon remembered Shinji destroying the entry plug.

Removing the scythe, Mari soon turned the enemy over and left him face down on the ground, and with a roar of strength and determination, Mari hit the spot where the plug was and saw the scythe penetrating Mark 09's stuff, Mari saw his movements stopping and becoming motionless dead.

Seeing that they were now free, Mari raised her head and observed EVA 02 getting up. "Asuka? What's up?"

Receiving a growl, Mari smiled knowing that more Asuka's pride was hurt than her body, but soon her eyes fell on the now open crack in the ground, knowing that once again Unit 01 had intervened on their behalf.

Wunder

"Target destroyed." Hyuga spoke relieved, but everyone remembered the purple ray coming out of the ground, again knowing that unit 01 had attacked an enemy.

Misato took a long breath upon hearing that they had achieved a miracle, she quickly picked up her radio. "Girls, get Unit 01 back soon and get back to Wunder in an accelerated fashion."

Looking at the bridge's face, Misato spoke strongly. "I don't want to stay here any longer."

They all nodded, soon they could be flying at high altitude, being safer than on the ground, they all nodded, but they still had the vision of the purple beam of light coming out of the ground, freeing Mari from Mark 09's grip.

Misato closed her eyes behind her glasses, but she had the image of EVA 01 in her head, this unit really was unique.

"Shinji ... What are you piloting?" Misato asked herself confused as she began to suspect that EVA 01 had not been built in the traditional manner.
