Prompt #18: "Pack your shit and go. Get the fuck out of my sight!"

"WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THIS!" Jay yelled while following Hailey into her apartment.

She was angrily plowing into her front door and trying to gain distance away from him. Steam seemed to be coming off both of their heads. She left the door hanging open as she turned to give him the death stare while he followed her in.

"STOP BEING SO LOUD!" She sternly demanded as he closed the front door.

"I'll stop being loud when you finally agree to talk this over with me!" He huffed out his response, trying to reach for her as she yanked away.

"Don't touch me. Your affection isn't getting you out of this one!" She vilely shouted.

"Come on, don't you think you're overreacting just a little?" He said softly, hoping to calm her and having the opposite effect.

"Overreacting? OVERREACTING? I just caught you flirting with your ex-wife and I'M overreacting?"

"We were not flirting. Abby just got excited since she hadn't seen me in a while. Was I not supposed to reciprocate her hug and responding to her?"

"Regardless, she's your ex-wife and you hid seeing her from me. Would you have taken her somewhere more private had I not followed you?"

"You've got to be kidding me! We were married as a JOKE! If I wanted to cheat on you, trust me, you wouldn't find out about it!"

He was getting fed up and bit back hard, only enraging Hailey more.

"You are Unbelievable right now!" She screamed. "What happened to us? I can't believe you just said that. You know everyone warned me about getting involved with you this way, but I didn't want to believe it. Look at you proving them all right."

"Well maybe I'm just one of those things you can't fix anymore like you so love to do. You're so high and mighty that you're just irked right now you couldn't control my actions this week!"

He realized how hard he cut with these words after they exited his mouth, but it was too late. Hailey's eyes turned venomous. He was just opening his mouth to try to take it back when she spoke again. The volume wasn't nearly as loud as the rest, but the words were lethal enough to cast the room into silence.

"Pack your shit and go. Get the fuck out of my sight!"

She hastily spun away from him after she uttered them and then walked out onto the balcony, trying to hold back her tears. She heard a noise to her left and out of the corner of her eye caught her noisy neighbor and landlord, Lenora, sneakily looking over at her. She must have been listening in to the whole argument. Hailey stood outside for a good half hour, wanting to make sure Jay was gone by the time she walked back inside. He didn't even come out to check on her, not that she expected it, this was par for the course. When she was certain she heard the front door close and assumed he had left, she went back in.

She was just walking to the fridge to grab a beer when like clockwork her doorbell rang. She didn't even have to check the peephole, knowing her suspicions of who it was would be right. Sure enough she pulled the door back to find Lenora staring at her, a look of sympathy and curious anger on her perfectly aged 50-year old face.

"I'm so sorry, I overheard everything. These walls are so thin you know. You poor thing, how can I help?" Lenora said softly to her, making Hailey think the older woman truly empathized and it wasn't all for show.

Hailey swung the door back and let her in. "Thanks, Lenora! It's been a day alright."

"He's an asshole! We can't let men keep us down. Us women have to stick together you know."

"You're probably right. I never had a lot of female friends, especially as I've aged, but I'm starting to think that was a mistake."

"Well don't worry, you have me now. And we'll take care of this, we'll take care of him!"

Hailey gave her a small smile back. For the first time today believing the metaphorical rope being thrown was in reach.

"Thank you, Lenora. I'm so glad I moved here. You're just the person I need in my life!"

Hailey responded while she grabbed them a beer so they could sit at her kitchen table together. She listened intently as Lenora started to tell her about her own life and experiences with men...

It was much later in the night when Hailey was returning home again. It was well past bed time, but she had to get things done. She was exhausted and completely burnt out from the day's events. She honestly didn't know how she still had the energy to stand, to say she was mentally drained was an understatement. But she was starting to feel okay with how things turned out. She quietly inserted her key into the lock and instantly felt the warmth and comfort only her "home" brought her and there was only one reason for that. She smiled when she saw the small living room lamp casting a glow into the foyer. She slowly made her way over to it, the warmth she felt only growing.

As she turned the corner to the living room, she was met by Jay lying on the couch in his pajamas, the TV on low, and a bright smile on his face when he saw her. She instantly made her way over to him and he wasted no time to envelop her in his arms.

"You think she bought it?" He asked her as she laid her head on his shoulder.

"100 percent. She's already thinking of a way to 'take care of you!'" She raised her eyebrows at him in playful warning.

He chuckled softly. "Hmm, it's a good thing I'll have such a pretty bodyguard to protect me then."

"Yeah, Kim will have her work cut out for her." She jokes and was rewarded by a rare eyeroll from him.

Hailey and Jay had been undercover for almost a month as the team was trying to take down Lenora Spano. There had been an uptick of professional hits on a variety of men, all of whom had left their significant others distraught or angry in some way. The deaths were even more substantial against younger and middle-aged attractive males who cheated on their partners. Lenora was their prime suspect. It seemed ever since her rich husband divorced and embarrassed her to marry a much younger woman, she had taken it upon herself to become a mercenary of sorts to other women in the same position. Hailey had gone under to rent one of Lenora's vacant apartments. She didn't need the money by any means, but word on the street was she loved taking in emotionally weakened girls. Today was the climax of their trap for Lenora commencing with Hailey and Jay's staged fight. They knew Lenora would implicate herself even more to Hailey after that. Which meant hopefully they could be wrapped up with this case within the week. And she wouldn't have to sneak out to her OWN house anymore on nights like this.

She snuggled closer to Jay, ready to fall asleep, but so happy he waited up for her. They took a few minutes to just quietly enjoy each other, both relieved they would be returning to their normal lives soon.

Jay kissed her head and chuckled again. "This has been a hell of a way to spend our honeymoon, huh?"

Hailey turned her head to look up at him and grin, quickly pecking his lips. "I don't know, we did get a pretty fancy apartment to spend it in, one which we'd never be able to afford, especially the hot tub... so it wasn't all bad."

"Yeah but with Lenora's creepy, stalking ass, you didn't get to be as loud as you normally are. I hate when you stifle your 'oh Jay' moans!" He teased as she punched his arm.

They had gotten married in a small ceremony two months ago, but work had been so crazy they kept having to postpone their honeymoon. Voight promised them three weeks of uninterrupted furlough when this case was wrapped up though.

"Keep joking mister and I'll tell my aunt we don't need her vacation house in Greece after all. You can kiss seeing my bikini-clad ass goodbye!"

Jay laughed and raised his arms in defeat. "That's fine, I'll just make you moan here."

He smirked as he brought her lips to his and they got lost in each other for long, passionate minutes. Hailey pulled back breathlessly.

"Mmm, better hurry up, I'm really tired from yelling at and trying to fix my fake boyfriend."

Jay swooped his arms under her body and flung her up into them bridal style as he stood and started running them up the stairs to their bedroom. Hailey yelped happily, her exhaustion fading already.

"That guy's an idiot. You can fix me anytime. In fact, you can help fix some tension I have right now..."

Jay whispered into her ear as he started nibbling on her neck, right at the spot he knew drove her wild. She tried to stifle her moan, but it was a losing battle. And honestly one she wanted to lose. So she did with any doting wife would do and threw her husband a bone...

"OHHH JAY!"

He laughed into her neck, ecstatic to have this for a lifetime. "See, there's the spirit!"

She smiled into his mouth before shutting them both up with another kiss. She'd gladly go undercover with him as a dysfunctional couple all the time if every night ended like this!
