CHAPTER 201
As Demetri, Hawk, Shawn and Kenny approached the administration building of Golf n Stuff, before anyone could stop him, Shawn raised a foot and kicked the locked front door right off its hinges. It smashed to pieces with a loud BANG, causing Demetri to swivel around and turn to him, an angry look on his face.
"What the hell are you doing?! You just told anyone in the building that we're here." Demetri snapped. Shawn shrugged.
"If there are enemies in this building, chances are they already knew we were coming before we even arrived." Shawn pointed out, glancing behind Demetri and pointing at the flashing CCTV camera attached to the ceiling.
Demetri knew that that was true, more so because not a single alarm or burglary prevention device had been set off when the teenagers burst into the building. Someone had clearly deactivated the alarms. Someone who wasn't them. An enemy. Someone else was here with them…
"Let's just start looking." Hawk snapped, not even so much as looking in Kenny's direction as he stormed past them and started to move in the direction of the first few doors. Equally annoyed at the team they had been assigned, Kenny, Shawn and Demetri followed him.
The group began to look room after room, desperately searching for not just a hostage, but even an enemy. Some kind of inkling that they were in the right place. However, the group were far from efficient. Personal issues between them were preventing them from working well together, the memory of their infamous spar at the Cobra Kai dojo at the forefront of both Hawk and Kenny's mind.
Room by room they searched for the hostages in complete silence, tension mounting between the two as they did. Eventually, frustrations reached a boiling point as the team of 4 reached the final, unchecked room of the entire building: the vast basement. It was mostly a storage room from what the Miyagi-Dos could gather from the outside, but if they wanted to know for sure, they needed to kick down the door and get inside.
Kenny approached the door, ready to kick it down and lead his team into the room. But before he could, he felt himself being roughly shoved sideways by none other than his own teammate.
"I've got this." Hawk snapped, moving to stand in front of the door himself. Kenny, who had flown sideways at the unexpected push, reached his wits end with his 'teammate'. Although it was only now that the two were reaching their breaking point, they had spent the entire time searching the building throwing snide, subtle jabs at one another.
"The hell are you doing?!" Kenny shouted, moving to shove Hawk backwards himself, although expecting it, Hawk was able to slap his hands away before he could.
"Get your hands away from me." Hawk spat.
"Guys, stop." Demetri murmured, trying to maintain peace and order within the group, but there was no point. The tension was too high to be stopped at this point.
"Why? Scared I'll kick your ass again?" Kenny remarked. Hawk scowled deeply at the smaller boy.
"It took you a paid-off referee and an illegal hit to land 1 punch on me! If that's what you call kicking someone's ass, you're a worse fighter than I thought." Hawk snarled, before raising his hands up. "I can give you a demonstration of what that really looks like if you want."
It wasn't Kenny who spoke next, but instead his older brother, who stood between Kenny and Hawk, standing face to face with the Miyagi-Do. Although Hawk was probably a better fighter than Shawn, with the Cobra standing a few inches taller and definitely a lot muscular, it was still an extremely imposing sight.
"Lay a hand on my brother and I personally guarantee that it won't just be Silver's body who gets dug up tonight." Shawn snapped at him, extremely protective of his younger brother.
"Round of 16 elimination in the Taikai… I'm terrified." Hawk shot back.
Looking back on it, it was almost guaranteed that a conflict and a stare down like this would happen between Kenny, Shawn and Hawk. They could've had anyone in this group, but instead it had to be the 3 biggest egos and the 3 biggest alphas between both Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do. Miguel, Robby and Marcos might've been better fighters, but they were also incredibly understated next to the likes of Shawn, Kenny and Hawk.
Thankfully though, as the teenagers stood right by the door of the basement, they also had an angel at their side. An angel in the form of the most passive, rational person in the Valley. But by this point, even he had lost his cool.
"Oh, my God! All of you, shut up!" Demetri suddenly broke the silence, yelling at the 3 feuding teenagers. They all turned to him, stunned to hear him speak, even more shocked to hear him speaking in such an aggressive tone.
"D-d-demetri?" Hawk stammered, taken back by his best friend's tone.
"Seriously?! We're trying to look for 2 kidnapped minors and you guys can't pull yourselves away from your petty, stupid rivalry for long enough to help us get them back?!" Demetri shouted.
"But…" Kenny started, but Demetri shook his head, turning to Shawn and Kenny.
"No! No buts! What would Marcos say if he was listening to this, knowing that you two care more about feuding with Hawk than helping to save his girlfriend from a bunch of psychopaths?!" Demetri snapped, before turning to his own friend. "What would Miguel and Robby think?! It's their sister who's in there too! People who have done so much for both of us… you really think this is the way to pay them back?!"
Demetri had a point. Both him and Hawk thought back to just how much Robby and Miguel had changed each other's lives. Demetri would never forget the fact that back when he was too weak to fight back, both Miguel and Robby had fought for him at countless different points, even when that was against Hawk. Hawk, Miguel, Demetri and Robby had built a friendship that was more than just a friendship… it was a brotherhood! And it was all going to end like this? With them prioritizing a petty squabble over their own family?!
Needless to say, the tension died down faster than it even arose. Kenny and Shawn were feeling exactly the same as Hawk. Without fail, Marcos had been there for them every time they needed him since the day they had met him. He hadn't hesitated to put his body on the line for any of them time and time again. And now the roles were reversed - he needed them. He deserved them doing everything they possibly could to get Sarah back.
Sensing the fact that the animosity had decreased back to 0, Demetri let out a sigh of relief, shockingly the one who had stamped his authority over the team of attack-minded alphas.
"Thank you." Demetri nodded. "Now… can we get back to what we were doing?"
Hawk, Shawn and Kenny, with their tails between their legs after the scolding from Demetri, nodded. They didn't say anything to each other, but all of them had recognized the fact that there were more important things to worry about right now. Like what was behind the door…
Because as Shawn and Hawk smashed down the door together, the team burst into the room, only to find themselves face to face with 3 more henchmen. But not just that! In the corner of the room, crying as she lay on the cold floor, was Laura!
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
3 more enemies. The mission was clear for the Miyagi-Dos: take down the 3 henchmen; get Laura; and get the hell out of here before any reinforcements arrived. And the 4 Miyagi-Dos and Cobra Kais wasted no time at all getting started. Ironically, despite all of the issues that might've been between Hawk, Shawn and Kenny, they were actually kind of a perfect team. All 3 of them fought with a lightning-fast offense, exactly what they needed in this time-sensitive battle they were locked in. Demetri, meanwhile, kept them honest and balanced them with his calming, more defensive approach.
A history buff might liken the way that the 4 teenagers fought to Blitzkrieg, the Nazi German offensive tactic used to seize enemy territory at the beginning of the Second World War. Shawn, Kenny and Hawk wasted no time storming their opponents, penetrating the defensive wall that the henchmen had made between them and the baby. They used an unrelenting, unyielding stream of offense that eventually led to them encircling the henchmen, trapping the 3 fully-grown adults away from the baby. Weirdly, despite their conflict, Hawk and Kenny were actually enjoying fighting alongside each other. They fought in a very similar way, and now that they were fighting on the same side, they had to acknowledge their great fighting ability. Not only that, but even Hawk and Shawn got along like a house on fire. They played similar roles in both Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do by doing the dirty work, being the bruisers and the enforcers of their respective teams, so now that they were together, they were getting along superbly.
"Keep them circled. I'll get the baby." Demetri told them, breaking from the formation that the teenagers had created and running for Laura, who was still in the corner of the room, thankfully unharmed by any of her captors. Sarah was nowhere to be found, but thankfully, they had still managed to find 1/2 of the hostages, and the one unable to fight back for herself no less.
Now that they had grabbed the baby, there was only one thing left to do.
"Let's get the hell out of here!" Hawk shouted. Although they had initially managed to overwhelm the 3 adults with their rapid assault, the 3 older enemies were starting to adjust and even fight back. It had taken all 9 of the Miyagi-Dos to take out 4 of the henchmen earlier, so the prospect of a 4 against 3, especially without their team's best fighters, was not something they were looking forward to. It was something they needed to prevent at all costs, as it would result in an almost certain loss. There was only 1 thing for the Miyagi-Dos to do: run!
The adults might've been a lot stronger than them, but at least the Miyagi-Dos could boast a large speed advantage, especially with the likes of Hawk and Kenny on their side. All 4 of the Miyagi-Dos suddenly turned on their heels and sprinted as fast as they could towards the exit of the room. Demetri, who was carrying Laura, was the first out the door, with the other 3 boys close behind him.
As they retreated rapidly from the basement room where they had been fighting, they didn't look back, although they could hear the loud footsteps that indicated that they were being followed. Quickly too. They needed some way to stop their assailants before they reached them, and thankfully Shawn and Hawk managed to come up with an idea…
As they ran past door after door that they had searched through, they finally made it to the stairwell that would led them to the main floor and the exit. This was perfect for the teenagers, as given their speed and mobility, they flew to the top of the stairwell and were gifted a few precious seconds before the adults arrived. They found themselves in the front foyer of the building, and wasting no time, Hawk and Shawn ran to the nearest table and dragged it over to the stairwell door, effectively barricading it from being breached open by the approaching adults.
Once they had done that, the teens sprinted out of the building with the baby in their arms, finally stopping to catch their breath. They had made it out! Now they just needed to find their friends, find Sarah, and then they could get the hell out of here!
