Cloud Strife- a novice cadet and an even worse warrior in his own mind. Despite standard SOLDIER training, Cloud feels he can't get any better at anything, increasingly weighed down by his own subconscious. Luckily, two experienced SOLDIERs step in.

This story occurs during Crisis Core-ish. Before Cloud, Zack and Sephiroth went to Nibelheim, before Angeal's death, before Genesis's crimes.

Ages:

Zack- 20

Sephiroth- 21

Cloud- 18.

While may not be consistent with the actual game, it works out better with the story. Additionally, Cloud faces intrusive and self-deprecating thoughts throughout the story. This may be triggering to some readers, so please proceed with caution. Some chapters may be much longer than others, so please pardon the inconsistency.
