Tuck Everlasting doesn't belong to me, I only own Rosalie.

Chapter 10

One mid-morning, the Tucks started packing and loading their things onto the cart. Due to the fact Robert Foster is leading a search party for Winnie and Rosalie, the Tucks had no choice but to leave and bring the girls back to the Fosters. Both Rosalie and Winnie were saddened at the thought of going back home, for they enjoyed their stay. However, they had no choice but to go back.

And so, Rosalie helped Miles, Angus and Mae with loading up their possessions; while Jesse and Winnie tried to bid their farewells.

"It isn't fair, Tuck." Mae said softly to her husband.

"No, it isn't," Angus agreed with his wife. "But when has life ever been fair?"

Rosalie couldn't agree more with Angus' words. Finished with his task, Miles jumped down and faced Rosalie.

"I never thought I'd get a second chance at love, until you came along." He said quietly, looking into her eyes. "Who would have thought it?"

"I would have," Rosalie said. "I'd give anything to stay with you."

"Really?" Miles asks.

Rosalie nodded, as he planted a gentle kiss on her lips.

"Forgive me for interrupting such a tender moment." A man's voice suddenly said.

Miles, Rosalie, Jesse and Winnie turned to see the man in a mustard yellow suit.

"Hello; Winifred, Rosalie." He greeted the girls. "Everyone's been so worried about you two. I'm relieved to find you both so well."

Rosalie pursed her lips at the man, frowning.

"You girls know this man?" Jesse asks the Foster relatives.

"Rosalie and I met him once," Winnie answered.

Angus and Mae finally noticed the man's presence.

"Hello, Mr. Tuck," said the man. "You have no idea what a pleasure it is to meet you."

"You're the man who's been following my boys." Angus said in a rather calm manner. "Been expecting you,"

"Yes, and here I am," said the man. "Tell me, is it a relief…to be finally discovered?"

"Over a century of hiding out must have taken its toll on you." He added.

"Who are you?" Mae questioned. "And how do you know so much about us?"

"I first heard about your family from my grandmother." The man began to explain. "She knew a woman in a mental facility who used to…rant and ramble about a family who never grew old and never died. This woman, she used to call out a name. What was it, now? Anna."

Rosalie gulped, for she knew he was referring to Miles's first wife and daughter and just to hear him talk about them brought back painful memories for Miles. She took his hand and squeezed it for support. Glancing at Miles, Rosalie saw him frowning and fixated on this stranger who knew plenty about the family.

"Crazy old woman," The man resumed. "Kept on talking about a music box. It seems the melody had a calming effect on her children. I'm sure you know it, Mrs. Tuck?"

He started whistling the tune and Rosalie gasped, as her stomach churned. She now remembered where she first heard that same melody (from Mae's music box); when she and Winnie first met the man, that night when they were out in the garden.

"You have no right to come to our home and bring us such pain." Mae said with sharpness.

"There, good mother. I mean no harm."

"Tell us, sir. What is it you want?" Angus inquired.

"Well, you see, the Fosters have given me these woods in exchange for bringing young Winifred and Rosalie back home to them. I have the papers, all signed and legal. Gives me the rights to the forest and everything in it. Don't be alarmed. I'll let you stay here…on my land if you prove cooperative." The man informed.

"Cooperative?" Angus asks warily.

"I want you to take me to the spring."

"Oh, God," Rosalie thought, as she wrapped her arms around Miles's waist and he pulled her closely in return. Rosalie now knew why the man was intent on finding the Tucks. He wanted some of the spring water for himself, so he could stay young for all time.

"I don't know what you mean." Angus simply replied.

"Don't insult me, Mr. Tuck." The man replied. "It's immediately clear to me that the water's powers have been wasted on… unimaginative people like you. I intend to make this 'fountain of youth', as the simpletons would call it, available to those who deserve it. For a price, of course."

Angus approached the man, slowly. "You'll die of old age before I'll take you."

"Is that so?" The man suddenly pulled a gun out from his bag and snatched Rosalie, who screamed in fright; from Miles's grasp, aiming the weapon at her head.

"Then perhaps, Rosalie will!"

"Let me go, you crazy bastard!" Rosalie shouted.

"Rose!" Winnie hollered.

"No!" Miles screamed.

The man took his gun and shot Miles in the stomach.

"Miles!" Rosalie yelled.

At first, Winnie starts to go to Miles, but Jesse stops her. Eventually; Miles got back up, (much to Rosalie's shock and amazement) with help from Angus and Jesse. Seeing how the Tucks can't get hurt, actually in person was completely different from hearing about it from Miles.

"Yes! Bravo!" The man remarked, whispering. He walked backwards while still clutching Rosalie. Her body shivered with fright and disgust, while Winnie and the other three Tucks looked on in alarm; save for Mae who is on the porch.

"Come now, Rosalie. I'm feeling thirsty. Show me where the spring is. Perhaps I'll let you have a drink. After all, then we can spend eternity together."

"You sick pervert!" Rosalie screamed, heart pounding, as she tried to free herself from the man's clutches. "Let go of me!"

Without hesitation, Mae clubbed the man on the back of his head with a shotgun. Winnie gasped in shock. Slowly, the man fell to the ground, dead instantly with Rosalie on top of him.

Miles, Winnie and Jesse rushed over to Rosalie.

"Rose, I got you. You're alright," Miles pulls Rosalie up and wraps her in a hug.

Rosalie couldn't help but cry as she returned the hug. She was frightened at the thought of what the man in the yellow suit could have done to her.

Winnie rubbed her cousin's shoulders in circles. She was grateful that Mae prevented the man from taking away the one person who was like an older sister to her. She didn't want to bear the thought of it.

Angus consoles a sobbing Mae, for she felt terrible about what she had done. But deep down, the Tuck matriarch knew she had to save Rosalie's life.

Just then, shouts and dogs barking cut through the air.

"Pa," said Jesse. They listened as more barking and shouting grew.

"They're they are!" A voice shouted.

The entire group looked over and saw the search party horde swiftly around them.

"Winnie Foster! Rosalie Foster!" Another voice shouted. "I see them!"

"Go," Angus instructed the boys, before getting up on the porch and rushing into the cabin.

"Jesse, we have to get out of here," Miles addressed his sibling; releasing Rosalie from his hug.

Jesse is about to walk away, but Winnie stops him before he could.

"It's my father," She said softly.

"Jesse, come on! Let's go!" Miles called.

Before he got on the horse, Rosalie walks up to Miles and planted a farewell kiss on his lips.

Winnie and Jesse held hands for a minute and eventually, Jesse had to let go and join Miles on his horse. At last, they took off riding.

Suddenly, Rosalie smelled smoke and it occurred to her that Angus is burning down the cabin to destroy any evidence of the Tuck family; as if they were never there.

Robert ran towards his daughter and niece, and hugs them very tight.

"You're both alright! You're both alright!" He cried.

"Are you okay, girls?" Robert asked Winnie and Rosalie.

"Yes, we're fine." They answered in unison.

Rosalie stood there, feeling overwhelmed. Everything was happening so fast and spinning.

A/N: Well, I hoped you all enjoyed it!

I was prepared to have the man in the yellow suit snatch Winnie and shoot Jesse in the stomach, but then Gryffindor 20 reached out to me via PM, suggesting that I'd have the man in the yellow suit grab Rosalie and shoot Miles instead and let Angus & Jesse help him up; much to Rosalie's shock.

Coming up next, Rosalie & Winnie free Mae & Angus from the jailhouse with help from Miles & Jesse, and the Tucks leave Treegap. I won't go into detail for what exactly happens, regarding Winnie & Rosalie. It'll be a surprise, so stay tuned!
