Luna was charging towards the Demon King, but with a mere flick of his finger, he sent her flying through some rock formations.
"Oh no, Luna!" Snotlout yelled.
Luna was winded but still very much alive and looked up at the two of them. "Don't turn your back on him!"
Getting the message, Snotlout quickly pushed Hiccup out of the way just moments before a large sword cut the ground in two.
"I told you this already; I have no intention of ever letting you go," said the Demon King.
"Thanks, Snotlout," said Hiccup.
The Demon King swung his sword once again, and the two of them quickly jumped out of the way.
"Physical Hut!" Snotlout yelled out, stretching his hand, and began to absorb the Demon King's strength. "This is it!"
However, instead of getting strong, he suddenly found himself getting weaker and the Demon King didn't seem fazed at all.
"What?" said Snotlout. 'My powers are getting absorbed instead?'
"What's the matter?" Hiccup asked. He then quickly caught Snotlout before they hit the ground. "Are you okay or what?"
"Yeah," Snotlout winced.
The Demon King then swung his sword down towards them once again; the only difference was Hiccup returned to save Snotlout. The Demon came kept on swinging his sword at them again and again, forcing them to dodge each and every single swing.
"So, is this how you regard the Demon King?" he said. "Your efforts are futile; as long as I am standing guard, it's impossible for anyone to pass through the gate."
"So, but you're not the one that decides that," said Hiccup.
"That's where you're wrong!"
The Demon King unleashed a bolt of lightning at Hiccup, who immediately took it head-on.
"Plasma Blade!" Hiccup yelled, swinging his blade and sending a slash of plasma that struck the Demon King.
"Did he really absorb that attack and counter-attacked?" Luna stared.
However, the Demon King didn't look fazed at all, as if the attack had never happened in the first place.
"I don't know how, but Demon King seemed to absorb the attack himself," Snotlout observed. "Hiccup, what the heck is his magical power? None of our attackers are doing a damn thing against him!"
"It's the same as his title, but it has another name," said Hiccup grimly. "It's called the Demon King or the Ruler."
Luna then immediately took to the air and began firing a number of plasma blasts, but they did affect the Demon King at all. He then grabbed her and lifted her towards his face.
"You just never learn," he said and tossed her onto the ground.
"Luna!" Snotlout yelled.
The Demon King then swung his sword onto the ground, and while they were able to avoid the blade itself, the shockwave of the attack was powerful enough to send them flying.
When Hiccup came, too, he found himself with the mother of all headaches.
"Ow!" he groaned. "Where's that bastard, Demon King?"
"Nowhere near us, that's for sure," said Snotlout as he sat next to a fire cooking some meat.
"Well, that is true technically; the only reason he's nowhere near us is because he blew us away," Luna explained.
Hiccup sighed, and Snotlout immediately noticed something was bothering him.
"You know what, maybe going back to the other world isn't something that I'm supposed to do," said Hiccup.
"Why would you say that?" Luna yelled. "You don't strike me as someone who would just give up. I will never stop trying until the day I see my mate!"
"Don't get me wrong, I absolutely want you two to make it back, but it's a different story for me. It's Ruby; because of her curse, she always has to die right in front of me, and I called her and Meliodas."
"Oh, come on!" said Snotlout rolling his eyes. "The curse has already been triggered, and I don't think for one moment that you plan on leaving Astrid behind. Become mopey or fainthearted, and it's all over, so you listen to me and listen good. You and me are going to get out of here and reunite with our lovers no matter what. You are also going to be the Princess from her curse and unite her with the true Meliodas. As for me, I'm going to bring Shanna back the life. So what you say we keep things simple?"
"I only said it because it's not that simple," said Hiccup. "But believe it or not, you are exactly right. Above all, every one of the Seven Deadly Sins and Toothless are risking their lives for Ruby and Meliodas; I can't do anything less."
They then made their way back towards the Demon King.
"All three of you utterly discuss me," he said, looking down at them. "How can you still not understand? No matter how many times you attempt to take my powers, you'll only end up feeding me more power. No matter how many times you attempt to pierce through me, you'll never hurt me in the slightest. All that you do is futile."
Snotlout then tried stealing his power once more, and both Hiccup and Luna attacked him. The Demon King then struck Hiccup with multiple attacks.
"Dragon's Breath!" Hiccup yelled, unleashing all the stored energy he had absorbed from the Demon King.
"Your techniques are utterly useless against me," said the Demon King. "To stand a chance against me, you need Meliodas to unleash his intrinsic powers." He then promptly swung his fist at Hiccup, knocking him back. "But he's not here even if he were because he is in fear."
The three of them continued battling against the Demon King again and again, but it always had the same result. At the end of getting their butts kicked and were sent flying all the way back to square one.
"How many defeats does that make?" Snotlout asked after their latest defeat.
"I haven't bothered counting," said Hiccup.
Snotlout sighed. "Fair enough."
"By my count, around 6,093 and no wins," said Luna.
Snotlout blinked. "You are really keeping track this whole time?"
"It's been 60 years since we started challenging the Demon King," said Hiccup. "I hate to say it, but when no closer to his level now than we were before."
"60 years maybe, but not in our realm. It's only been about an hour out there," Snotlout reminded him. "Don't worry, we'll just keep trying."
Hiccup then noted the injury on Luna's back. "Luna, it looks like your wounded."
"It's nothing; hardly even counts as a scratch," she said dismissively.
Snotlout looked at his hand and got a wild idea. "Hey, wait for a second; maybe I should try it out."
He held his hand in front of Luna's wound in seconds; it was completely healed.
"Holy crap, my wound healed!" Luna announced, getting to her feet.
"Seriously?" Snotlout stared, looking at his own hand.
Hiccup looked at him curiously. "That healing thing is pretty neat. How long have you been able to do it?"
"Over the past 60 years, we've tried taking away the Demon King's power and strength again and again, but he always absorbs ours instead, right? Thanks to that, I got accustomed to the feeling of being robbed. No, that's not the right word; more like giving. So I thought that I just give it a try."
"Are you sure you're okay giving away your power?" Luna asked.
"Of course it is; after all, I am immortal," said Snotlout and looked at his hand. 'With this power, Shanna can be—'
"Either way, our worst terror continues to be the Ruler," said Luna. "How are we ever supposed to get the better of him?"
Hiccup thought for a moment.
"I don't know," said Snotlout. "I mean, that Snatch power of his doesn't weaken him. It just makes him stronger on top of that; he is able to absorb all of your attacks. Your magical power Inferno allows you to store up powers of enemy attacks and unleash it against them."
"Yeah, all the usual attacks don't hurt him in the slightest," Hiccup agreed. "He really is ruling the natural way of things." His eyes and lit up as he got a crazy idea. "Could it be?"
Snotlout and Luna looked at him as it looked as if he had an idea.
"Listen up, both of you," said Hiccup looking at them. "I think I have both a way of even the odds and how to counter his moves."
Moments later, the three of them returned to face the Demon King. Once there, Snotlout immediately used his powers against the Demon King.
"I'm so disgusted I can't even sigh," he grumbled. "Is this really your plan? Coming here solely to get your powers taken?"
Snotlout laughed. "If you're going to take them from us, I'll just give it to you right from the start!"
The Demon King was confused with that statement and then suddenly fell to his knees.
"I knew it," said Hiccup. "Demon King, the true power of this irrational magic of yours, The Ruler, is… reversing! Any attacks or attempts to weaken you gets converted to healing and protection!"
"Bravo, bravo, but it matters not," said the Demon King. "I will never allow you to return with my son's emotions to the present world."
"We'll see about that!" Hiccup yelled as the three of them dashed past him.
"Give it up!" the Demon King roared as he raised his sword.
"Let us through already!" Snotlout glared, using his powers once more.
The Demon King found himself getting weaker once again; he was barely able to hold his sword properly now.
"Snotlout!" Hiccup yelled.
"Just hurry up and find the gate!" Snotlout yelled and then turned towards the Demon King. "I want you to partake of my limitless life."
Hiccup and Luna searched the area until they found a giant hole in the ground, which was so deep they couldn't see the bottom.
"Sure enough, here it is," said Luna. "The gate of the present world."
Then suddenly, they heard Snotlout scream and saw the Demon King had recovered and was now grasping Snotlout firmly in his hand.
"The powers returned?" Snotlout winced. "What the hell is going on?"
The Demon King chuckled. "Oh, nothing special. I only seized the magical powers. He went out of your way to heal my damage; I want to show my gratitude."
He then began to squeeze his hand.
"You bastard!" Snotlout glared at the try to break free from his grip. "Do not underestimate me!"
Then suddenly, there was a flash as someone managed to pull Snotlout out of the Demon King's grip. The Demon King turned his gaze and saw a blonde-headed boy had appeared.
"Meliodas, I am surprised to see you here, my son," said the Demon King.
"You can thank Snotlout for that," said Meliodas. "He used his Snatch skill to separate our motions from one another."
"Wasn't easy," said Snotlout.
"You keep going; I'll keep him at bay," said Meliodas.
"No, you won't," said Snotlout getting to his feet. "There's no point in any of this if you don't come back."
"He's right!" Hiccup yelled. "The original idea was for us to distract your father so that you could escape!"
"That might have been your original idea, but it wasn't mine," said Meliodas. "Now get going!"
"Damnit, you better come back," Snotlout growled.
Meliodas then phased his father as Snotlout went to join Hiccup and Luna.
"I'll never forgive you," said the Demon King. "You're nothing but a disappointment who disobeys enterprise his father!"
"Why call yourself that now?" Meliodas asked, narrowing his eyes. "I've never recognised you as my father. What I don't get is why you keep clinging to this disappointment so much?"
Meliodas then charged towards his father.
"Why?" said the Demon King. "Because you are the destroyer!"
The two of them then clashed their weapons at one another and looked as if they were evenly matched.
"You're the destroyer!" Meliodas snapped as he landed on the ground. "I'm not interested in being the Demon King! I just want to put an end to this useless conflict!"
The Demon King then swung his sword cutting across the ground, and forced Meliodas to block it. However, the pure power behind the strike was enough depression backwards, and the Demon King then pulled his blade upwards, sending him flying into the air.
"Dangerous as expected!" said the Demon King slamming his sword down upon his son.
Hiccup and Snotlout plainly see that Meliodas was getting overpowered.
"What are you two doing? Let's hurry to the gate!" said Luna.
"I can't just run off and leave him here," said Snotlout.
"He's right; I failed him enough time is not going to fail him again," said Hiccup.
The Demon King had managed to create a crevice in the ground, and Meliodas was trapped inside it.
"You, Meliodas, are the most suitable successor to my throne," said the Demon King. "The only unnecessary thing are those emotions that plague you."
"We don't help him. Everything we've done will be nought," said Hiccup as they watched.
"You two just stay here," said Luna.
Snotlout looked at her. "What do you mean?"
Meliodas was now climbing out of the crevice just as the Demon King was about to attack again, but then suddenly, he was hit by a blast which had enough power to bring him to his knees.
"Cursed dragon!" the Demon King growled as Luna flew around. It was then that he noticed there was something different about her, a very powerful presence. "What is that power?"
"This is the power out of an alpha," Luna growled at him furiously. "You told me in my beloved part, and now you'll feel every ounce of my rage!"
"Stop, you idiot!" Meliodas yelled at her. "Are you trying to die?"
Luna landed beside him and then used her tail to knock him over towards Hiccup and Snotlout. The two of them were quite surprised, and Meliodas crashed into them, causing all three of them to fall into the gateway.
"You won't escape!" the Demon King yelled, reaching for them.
"I will be so sure of that!" Luna snarled, firing another plasma blast, knocking his hand away.
She then quickly fired a second plasma blast, which exploded a few seconds later. She then dived into the explosion and vanished.
The Demon King looked around frantically for her. "Where did you—"
His eyes then turned towards the gateway and then saw Luna and reappeared, diving into it.
"Let's go!" Luna yelled.
"No!" the Demon King roared.
Luna joined the others, and soon, the four of them found themselves falling into an endless abyss.
"We are sure this is going to take us home, right?" Snotlout asked. "It's not the undertaker's anywhere worse?"
"What's worse than Purgatory?" Hiccup asked.
"Good point."
"No, my father wasn't holding everything back to prevent us from escaping," said Meliodas. "I have no doubt that this will take us back."
Hiccup looked at Luna. "That was quite the move you did back there."
"It was a spur-in-the-moment decision; I'm just glad it worked," Luna smiled.
Snotlout then could feel himself being pulled away from the others. "I'm having trouble moving my body! I think we're going to get separated."
"Yeah, he's right; we're going to be pulled in separate directions," said Hiccup.
"Then I imagine that Snotlout will be pulled to Toothless since he came to Purgatory through him," said Meliodas. "You'll only find yourself back in your own body, and I'll go to the cocoon I made after taking in the Commandments."
"What about me?" Luna asked.
"I imagine that you'll go with Snotlout, but I can't be certain."
Then suddenly, the Demon King's hand appeared out of nowhere and grabbed Meliodas.
"Meliodas!" Hiccup yelled.
The Demon King laughed. "I've got you now. I already told you I won't let you return to the present world."
"Damnit!" Snotlout cursed, feeling absolutely helpless.
"I can't fly; there's nothing I can do!" Luna yelled.
"Don't worry, Meliodas! We'll find a way to save you!" Hiccup promised. "Just hold out until we do!"
"Don't worry about me; I'll come back on my own no matter what!" Meliodas vowed. "Just leave me here and go back! The two of you have to save your friends!"
"Not as if we have much choice," said Hiccup.
"You better come back!" Snotlout yelled.
The two of them and Luna then disappeared into the abyss.
The Demon King laughed as he pulled Meliodas out of the gate. "What a pitiful show of courage. How do you plan on escaping from my hands?" Then to his utter, something severed his arm. "What?"
He then didn't take them long to realise what had happened; somehow, Meliodas found the power to sever his arm.
"You harness the power to destroy my flesh. Meliodas, could it be that…"
"It was you that said I was in fear," said Meliodas. "Now that I have awakened to this power, even if I do go back. I would no longer be able to stay there, but I decided."
The Demon King actually looked terrified. "Stop! You can't! You can't go back! You'll ruin everything!"
Meliodas just smiled. "That's the first time I've ever seen your face so flustered."
He then fell down into the gateway, and the Demon King could only watch.
"Come back!" he roared.
Meanwhile, back in the present world, Astrid and the others could sense an incredible magical power emanating from Xeovell.
"It's coming from the direction of Xeovell," said Heather.
"Yeah, I send Ragnar's and Eret's powers, too," said Fishlegs.
"Let's hurry then; I presume that something terrible is happening over there," said Ruby.
"And it's now past noon, which means Eret's power levels start to fall," Astrid added.
Toothless' eyes then suddenly lit up, and he immediately began to panic.
"Toothless, what is wrong?" Ruby asked frantically.
"I've got no idea!" he yelled.
Then suddenly, a burst of light emerged from his eyes and emerging before them were Snotlout and Luna.
"No way," Heather beamed.
"You came back to us," said Toothless.
"My sister's eyes for people really outdid itself for you, Snotlout," said Fishlegs.
Snotlout took a deep breath breathing in the fresh air. 'Shanna… Hiccup… Meliodas… I made it back.'
"Sir Snotlout!" said Ruby rushing up to him. "I'm so relieved to see you safe and sound; we've all been so worried. What about Hiccup?"
"Hiccup should be fine now, and we were able to separate both him and Meliodas," Snotlout reported. "The two of them should be back."
Tears began to form in Ruby's eyes.
"Who's your friend?" Astrid asked, looking at Luna.
"Oh, this is Luna; she was a big help to us," said Snotlout. "And she's Toothless' mate."
"What?" everyone stared.
"I have a mate?" Toothless stared in shock.
"The Demon King separated us and altered your memories, but I can assure you that we are indeed mates," said Luna. "I've been looking for you for millions of years."
"This is a lot to process," said Toothless.
"I may be able to rekindle those lost memories if they truly do exist," said Skull. "However, it will have to wait until after this Holy War."
"I've waited for millions of years. I can stand to wait a few more days," Luna smiled.
"Listen up; all of you better go to Meliodas is quick," Snotlout advised.
"What about you?" Toothless asked.
"Well, there's something I need to take care of first."
"If you're heading to the front lines, you can hitch a ride with me and Meatlug," Skull offered.
Snotlout nodded. "I'll meet up with the rest of you afterwards."
At the front lines, the Dragon Knights had joined forces with the giants and fairies against a new offensive from the Demons. The battlefield was in utter chaos, and the Demons were slowly overpowering them.
Dagur blue someone way with several boulders, and Deathpierce cut through a number of Blue Demons. However, a Copper Demon then appeared right in front of him, and many of the Dragon Knights were knocked off their horses.
"Gabrielle!" Ake yelled, seeing her fall.
This momentary distraction caused him to lose focus, and he was struck by the Demon he was currently battling. The twins were struggling to take down a Red Demon, but suddenly a massive whirlwind erupted across the battlefield.
Shanna had now joined the battlefield, but she was completely exhausted, and Adava floated up towards her.
"Shanna, retreat!" she said as she fired several shots at some Demons attacking them. "You should give your body a chance to recover. If you strain yourself further…"
"Thanks, but it's fine, Adava," Shanna panted. "This life is transient after Roy was revived vengeful soul revival."
Dagur quickly raised his hands. "Fang of the Great Earth!"
Stone spikes erupted from the ground impaling a number of Demons. However, a large golem swung its massive fist down upon him, and while he was able to avoid the fist, the shockwave from the impact was enough to send him flying.
"Now… Tempest Falls!" Shanna yelled.
Massive tornadoes then erupted across the battlefield, sucking in all the Demons and golems they could find.
"Oh, wow," said Ake.
"Amazing, Lady Shanna!" Orist cheered.
"Shanna!" said Adava floating up to her.
"Listen, Snotlout is somewhere in Purgatory fighting frantically for his friend," said Shanna. "That's why I'm going to keep fighting too. As the Holy Maiden of the Fairy King's Forest, I have to fight or else I'll be far too ashamed… to see him."
Suddenly her wings disappeared as she started to black out from exhaustion and began to fall.
"Shanna!" Adava cried, diving down towards her.
A Copper Demon then appeared in front of them, ready to attack Shanna now that she was helpless.
'Snotlout… I wanted to see you one last time,' she said.
Snotlout then appeared and used his magical power to steal the hearts of every Demon on the battlefield. Hiccup, too, appeared in his Dragonborn form, smashing through all the golems within seconds.
"Is that?" Adava stared at Snotlout.
"It can't be," Ake stared at Hiccup.
Snotlout then caught Shanna in his arms and smiled down at her. "Sorry I took so long."
Shanna looked up and saw him. "Snotlout, you came back to me. Is this happening, or am I dreaming? It's you, right?"
"It's me," Snotlout promised.
"My wings and my body have reverted; I guess I reused my powers," she said and touched his cheek with her hand. "But I'm so happy that you're holding me close like this in your arms until my last breath."
"Lady Shanna!" the fairies cried.
"But this isn't the end," said Snotlout and raised his hand. "Gift!" He then began channelling his immortal power into Shanna. 'This isn't the last time; I'll hold you in my arms again.'
"I feel Lord Snotlout's tremendous life force, and it entering Shanna's body," said Adava stunned.
"What's happening?" Ake asked.
"When we were in Purgatory learned that he would give power to others," said Hiccup as he landed next to him. "I think what we're seeing is Snotlout giving Shanna his immortality to her to bring her back to life."
Shanna opened her eyes and realised what Snotlout was going. "Don't do this, Snotlout. If you use up the power of the Fountain of Youth, you will be immortal anymore."
Snotlout just merely smiled.
Once he was done, he then placed his hand over her heart and could feel it beating.
"Snotlout, are you really okay with this?" Shanna asked. "You're a mortal now; the mortality you once possessed is gone."
"But what immortality without the one you love, nothing but a doomed existence," said Hiccup. "Believe me, I speak from experience."
"He right; immortality means nothing to me as long as I can fulfil the promise I made to you," said Snotlout. "To steal you away someday, no matter what."
The two of them then kissed, and Shanna wrapped her arms around his neck as he lifted her off her feet.
"Shanna, now we're together for the rest of our lives."
