"I see...so that's what happened." Corrin stood before Lilith, processing everything that was told to him by the little dragon herself.
With the events that happened while the others were away, Evan and Corrin were less than enthused with what they came back to. It wasn't just the fact that the mess hall of all places was a disaster – no, much of their solitary fortress was borderline vandalized. The ideal 'home sweet home' motto and what they pictured coming back to was nothing but a fool's dream at this point.
After an hour of scoping the entire area within the fortress, everyone was able to come around and realize that they were finally left in their solitude. Although, it was safe to say that Chef DK and Doctor Poopenschmir were more than a little shaken up by their abnormal endeavor they starved a night over. Nathan took it better, albeit more annoyed than traumatized.
Lilith humbly nodded. "I'm afraid so. Fortunately for everyone, we were able to come out of it, as Evan would say, in one piece."
"That's true." While he was sound knowing his allies weren't killed, a frown spread across his face in displeasure. 'How could the Vallites know where we are? No...better to wonder how they got here in the first place.'
"Yo, Corrin!" From the direction of the bathhouse, Corrin turned to find Evan jogging his way back from surveying the damage. He trotted to a halt in front of his friend and inhaled.
"Evan, what did you find in there?" Corrin asked worriedly.
Evan shook his head. "I checked with what Nathan relayed, but I didn't find any bodies..." He lifted his left hand, showing his grip on an iron Naginata. "But they left their weapons behind, and the inside was a mess, so..."
"...so I guess Nathan and Lilith were right." Corrin retained a stoic disposition, but even he was mentally shaken by these turns of events, for a lack of better word.
The others ventured back, with Felicia leading the small group with an iron Naginata in hand. They ventures from the mess hall after finally managing to get Chef DK and Poopenschmir to calm down. "Milord, we've found these amongst the mess, too." She presented a Steel Sword to Corrin, showing its luster glimmering beneath the Astral Planes' sunlight.
"Yes, us as well." Gunter held up an iron club, with Azura holding up an iron Naginata. "It seems that our enemies have left behind mementoes from the little surprise they tried to give our colleagues."
"It's quite plenty of iron...much more effective than brass." Azura noted, holding up her own brass Naginata.
"Well, as the saying goes, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Best we keep what we find on hand." Keith nonchalantly advised.
Evan shrugged. "Yeah, I think I'm with Keith on this one. All these weapons around should be used somehow."
Freya tossed a long lock behind her head as she looked puzzled. "I'm still trying to understand how we got invaded while we were away. Is that even a thing?" she asked aloud.
"Apparently, Freya." Azura frowned. "But these sacred lands...how could they have been scoped out by these...invaders?" She paused before she could finish the question. She was a syllable away from saying the unspoken word of Valla. Thankfully she had enough common sense to prevent that.
Damon sputtered and shook his head. "Man, can we just move dis along? I getz dat we be gett'n ransacked and shit, and dey be leaving around their junk for us to clean up, but...what about us? What about me? We didn't come back with all dis food just so it'd go bad!" He held up the sack of various foods they had found in their prior venture. Though truthfully, it still wasn't much, aside from various fruits and grains, especially bread.
"We know, Damon. Sorry for the wait." Corrin apologized, hoping the consulting would calm his ally. He turned towards Lilith for answers. "Lilith, are you able to do anything for the damage done here?"
The little dragon closed eyes before looking brightly back at him. "As a matter of fact, Lord Corrin, it is."
"Really?!"
Lilith chuckled at his cute shock. "Of course. While it is true that with each return you bring along energy from the real world for me to use Dragon Veins, I can also gain Dragon Veins myself here. Though, really, it takes a long time for my body to stockpile it all. But it seems that being out into danger being active causes my body to absorb more Dragon Veins faster than before.
"So you mean like an adrenaline reflex of sorts?" Evan interpreted, earning a nod from Lilith.
"More or less, yes. Now then...everyone listen...I'm about to enact my powers again. Make sure you stand still."
"Thanks for de heads up, dragon lady. Now I'll know not to panic when I see something new pop out of de ground like a weed." Damon dryly chimed.
"Are you sure this is safe, Lady Lilith?" Felicia chimed in, showing genuine concern.
"Yes, I'm certain of it. Now then, allow me a moment..." Lilith remained quiet as she closed her eyes once more, this time to concentrate the Dragon Veins within the vicinity of the fortress. The current populace went silent as they waited in anticipation of what she was about to do.
Suddenly, her orb shined brightly as she opened her eyes, shining bright green. A wave of runes went underneath everyone's feet and faded into the ground around them. The shockwave dissipated to nothing in the soil and tiling until a light magnitude began picking up beneath everyone.
"What's happening now?" Freya asked worriedly.
Evan had an arm out in front of her. "Stay calm, Freya! Hang on a sec!"
The magnitude intensified as a wave of healing aura transmitted over the bathhouse and mess hall. Additionally, a wave of aura repaired Doctor Poopenschmir's makeshift lab area. Gradually, the energy reversed the damage dealt on the inside, as well as the outside. As if a reverse switch on time was made. The stab marks in the doors, the blood, everything about it all was cleaned up without a trace.
However, it didn't stop there. The energy also caused some more building to materialize. Several in a row in fact. Some were bigger than others, but one of them in particular comprised of a small dome-like surface that encompassed an arena. This area in particular was what caught Corrin and Evan's eyes alike.
When the area's runes finally receded back to thin air, everyone was finally able to calm themselves. They uncovered and found themselves raptured in not just the structural healing, but also how there were more places and monuments, much to their disbelief. Though in Keith's case, he stood in blind anticipation.
Evan eyed everything around him, ranting from the small shops to the north, towards the large statues. Suffice to say that even he was taken back by the extra commodities. "Woah...talk about a surplus." He muttered low.
Felicia gasped. "Oh, God! Lord Corrin, look at all this! Lady Lilith, did you really...?!"
Lilith sheepishly giggled. "You surprised, Lady Felicia?"
"Y-yeah...this is all so sudden..." Her eyes darted around, looking over everything around them. "There's so many...just like our stays our first time here."
Speaking of suddenly, doors flung open to the duplexes. Bursting out of them were Chef DK and Poopenschmir; the former held up a kitchen knife and frying pan that he kept on him alike. "Where are they?! Where's the invaders now!?" DK snapped anxiously. He looked around to find no one panicking, instead they looked awfully calm. "W-wait...what's with that big noise..."
"Oh, Chef DK, Doctor Poopenschmir." Corrin anxiously smiled. "Sorry about that. Didn't mean to startle you both. It was just Lilith using her powers again."
"Powers...?" DK was confused, until Poopenschmir tapped his shoulder with an index finger. "What?" He saw the way he looked at the sight with awe and shock and turned towards it. Suffice to say that his jaw nearly dropped to the floor upon seeing everything repaired. "...wait...wait, WHAT!? The hell just happened!? Am I dreaming!? Please tell me this is all just a dream and that I'll wake up on a park bench..."
"I-I believe that, uh, that this might be real after all...hehe...oof..." Poopenschmir shuffled anxiously, turning towards the others. He looked at the small pan he had on hand and lowered it. "Er...our bad. Just a little jumpy today still is all, heh..."
Corrin frowned at the two. "Oh, that's right. So sorry for waking you both. You, uh...wouldn't by chance know if Nathan is still asleep, right?"
"Right here." The sound of a familiar voice got Corrin to turn around. Nathan stood presently, holding onto the Armorslayer that he had ascertained from his previous venture in the canyons. The circles underneath his eyes were a visible representation of how fatigued he was, and yet he had that same scowl that nobody dared to mess with.
"Oh, Nathan, there you are." Corrin said, keeping a cautious tone. "How're you feeling?"
Nathan shrugged. "Well, aside from needing to look over my shoulder every five seconds, I'm still alive." He lifted his head, looking out past everyone towards the new buildings in the distance. He looked towards Lilith, putting the two together. "You used your powers again?"
Lilith nodded. "Sure did! You should all have a look for yourselves. I'm sure they'll all come in handy for your endeavors."
Azura grinned lightly. "We will. Thank you very much, Lilith."
DK sighed, putting down his kitchen knife. "Well, guess I'm up anyways...might as well see what this fuss is all about."
"Oh~, hope dere's a fast-food restaurant. Cuz I'd be craving some of dose sandwiches, fo'." Damon chimed.
Gunter turned towards him with a raised brow. "'Fast food restaurants', you say?"
"It's a thing from our world." Keith chimed in.
"Interesting...perhaps you would like to detail that to us later then?" Gunter smirked.
Damon smacked his own lips as he walked off with the group to the distance. "Well, fo', de key thing dat all those places have, is one thing: French fries..."
The group took to the first closest building, which – as opposed to the rest - was remarkably small. Borderline to the likes of a shack even, yet it was well maintained. The exterior alone was fine wood and a wealthy roof. There were windows on the front with a single bench along the side.
"So what's this place supposed to be?" Freya asked aloud.
Using common sense, Evan turned his head towards the sign that sat beside him. On it was "Lottery Shop", albeit in italic lettering. "A Lottery Shop?" he questioned aloud.
"What might that be, if I may ask?" Felicia inquired quietly.
Evan turned towards her, blinking. "Huh? Oh...well you see, back from our world, there's these drawings that people do with a bunch of numbers that they pick." He shrugged. "But I never tried it...mostly because you had to be at least 18 to apply."
"So then, how does it work?"
Suddenly from the side, DK stepped in. "Oh, that? Well it's like Evan said. You pick various numbers, and if they match up exactly like yours, you get a big prize."
"I see, and what prizes do you mean exactly?" Azura questioned, genuinely piqued by the concept.
"Well, it kinda varies to be honest with you. Some places give out a massive cash prize. Though the one in Lumiose City where I come from, that one had lottery places meant for trainers. Sometimes even they luck out."
"Interesting...so your world has games that swindles others essentially?" Gunter bluntly asked.
"I'm just surprised alone that this realm even has the concept of lottery." Nathan chimed in.
"Oh, a lottery?! Oh, fo'! I loves me some lottery tickets!" Damon snickered, rolling his tongue as he giggled. "I can tell you 'bout de number of tickets I always sto-uh, got and lemme tell you...this shits a big scam!" He suddenly spattered angrily. "Seriously! I rob-um, I mean spent all dat money dat I could use for Bluk Berry Juice on a weekend basis, fo'!"
DK sighed heavily. "He's kinda right...never won once myself. Really a bummer..."
Evan looked ahead, seeing the entrance being visibly without a door. Instead, it was just a jungle green curtain. "Well, guess we should at least check it out." He took the lead and swept the curtain aside. He and everyone looked around at the accommodations the shop had.
Once inside, there were small benches that lined up the sides of the shop's green walls. In front was a broad desk, with a large wooden mill that went down towards a small opening at the bottom that sat on a thin plate.
"So this is what a lottery looks like inside?" Corrin questioned aloud. Though granted, he had been cooped up in a castle his entire life, but even he found himself engrossed like an innocent child. To say he was genuinely curious would have been putting it lightly.
"It's rather small than what I imagined it would be..." Azura muttered loud enough for those around her to here.
"Well the one where I came from was a lot bigger, I can tell you that much." DK explained, scoping everything around them. "Still, i-it's not bad. A little touch-ups maybe, but I guess not bad, not bad..."
"So...where do we draw these numbers at?" Felicia questioned aloud.
"I'm not sure. There's usually a reception desk or something...oh, is it that you think?" DK walked up to the large wheel sitting on the desk. There was no one manning it, but there was a slot hole where something like a rock would fit on the opposite end. He looked left and right across the counter, but found no one. "Hello~? Huh...guess it's self-service here. So then I just...do this then?"
With caution, he gripped the handle and pulled it like a lever. Suddenly, the wheel went loose on its pedestal and spun in place. DK gasped and recoiled as everyone else watched the roulette spin around until they heard something rolling around inside. They saw a bronze ball roll out onto the plate that sat at the bottom.
"W-what was that about?" Evan muttered unsurely.
"I don't know. Looks like one of dem Nuggets back home." Damon shrugged. "Aye, fo', what you do with it, den?"
DK furrowed his brows. "God, keep your pants on, guys! Let me see!" DK stepped forward and took the bronze ball from the plate. He inspected it to see if any numbers were present, but found nothing of the sorts. "It's blank? Huh..." He looked over at the black slot sitting across the counter. He looked at the bronze ball again, then back at it. "So then...I just put this here then?"
He inserted the bronze ball into the hole. He heard the ball drop down somewhere inside, and then something else was rolling from the side. In an open cubby besides the chef, he looked down and saw a slab of packaged meat roll out.
"The hell is this...?" He picked it up, scanning it with interest. "A roast...? That's kind of a weird prize...well, guess it's a jackpot, cuz now we have dinner planned! Hehe!"
"Uh...good for you, I guess." Evan murmured.
DK stepped away, allowing Damon to step up with his lips smacking again. "Well, if dis is all free – which it looks like – guess I'll be having a turn now! Hehe! Gimme something good!" He grabbed the handle and yanked the lever down. The wheel began rolling over again and slowing to a stop. "C'mon! Gimme something good, fo! Something good!"
The wheel eventually stopped, sputtering out another bronze ball that rolled to a stop on the plate.
"Ah man, me too?" He complained loudly. He groaned and picked up the ball. "Well, guess we be seeing what I get. Better not be some damn meat package!" He placed the bronze ball into the hole and watched it go down a hole. He looked towards the cubby expecting something fancy like a golden chain, or maybe some Bluk Berry Juice...
But instead it was a can of peaches.
"What!? More food!? Are you kidding me!?" He smacked his lips angrily. "Fo', I knew dis be a scam! C'mon, lemme try again!" He went to pull the lever, but to his shock, he found the pedestal unable to pull. "Gnnngh...what?! It's jammed, too!? Fo'!"
Nathan looked over at a nearby sign posted towards the neighboring wall. On it were words that said "One Draw Per Day". As Damon was still muttering low and threatening to break the damn game, Nathan poked his shoulder.
"Fo', what do you want? Can't you see I'm trying to-!" Nathan sharply pointed towards the sign posted adjacent towards them. Damon furrowed his brow and looked startled. "...oh...well how de hell does it even know!? Man, dis stupid dragging bangs shit is rigged!"
Nathan nonchalantly shrugged. "Look on the bright side, at least you have a snack. Better than wanting Chef DK's cooking, right?"
Damon sighed heavily once more. "Yeah, guess so fo'..." He took the small can and started walking away. "Gonna get me some sweet peaches d'oh..."
"Huh, didn't think lotteries gave you those sorts of prizes." Evan spoke to Freya.
"Mhm, that's pretty odd." She turned towards him. "How about you try?"
Evan raised a brow. "Why me?"
Freya patted him on the back with a smirk. "What's wrong? Don't you usually take initiatives around here?"
He gave her a dismissing look. "You just want me to see if all we get are grocery store items, don't you?" He eyerolled away and sighed. "Well, guess as long as these things aren't age-restricted...guess it's worth a shot." He walked up and grabbed the handle. "Here I go!"
He pulled the lever down and restarted the wheel. The wooden wheel spun rapidly for several seconds until came to a slow halt. Once again, another bronze ball dropped out in front of Evan. He gave the ball a scrutinizing look before following the last few examples and inserting it into the hole.
He waited several seconds, and out of it came something he wasn't expecting. Out of al the items that came out, it wasn't anything like food...but instead a medium-sized, broad, yellow seed that had a very smooth surface. He reached over and picked it up between his fingers.
"So, what was it this time, Evan? More food from this apparent vending machine I take it?" Keith chimed.
Evan scrutinized the item, furrowing his brow. "Uh...not exactly? It's a huge seed, but what am I supposed to do with...wait a minute..." He squinted, inspecting the texture of the seed's surface. "Hold on...I know this..."
"You know what?" Freya inquired aloud.
Evan turned towards her, showing her the large seed. "Freya...I think this is a Miracle Seed."
"A what?" Corrin questioned.
"A Miracle Seed?" Azura parroted. "Is that a thing you're familiar with, by chance?"
"Well, kinda. I read up on them when I was still learning in school. These are really good seeds that help a Pokémon power up their Grass-type attacks." He scrutinized the seed further and gasped. "I know...!"
Without haste, he reached back and pulled out a Poke Ball. He tossed it up, bringing out his Bellsprout. The Grass/Poison-type blinked before realizing she was finally out. "(Ugh, finally some fresh air! Felt like forever since I was in that thing!)" she exasperated.
Evan kneeled towards Bellsprout, holding out the Miracle Seed for her to see. "Hey, Bellsprout, you want this?"
Bellsprout raised a brow at her trainer and the foreign object. "(What's this supposed to be? Am I supposed to eat it?)" She gave it a curious look, until she decided to touch it with a leaf. To her surprise, her body felt a strong lifeforce pump through her rootwork. "(Woah! What was that!?)"
"It's okay! It's supposed to help increase your Grass-type attacks. Give it a try at least."
Bellsprout blinked, but she didn't shy away. Instead, she eyerolled and stepped closer. "(Fine, fine, but only because you said so. This damn seed almost gave me a heart attack.)" Once again, she touched the seed with a leaf. Once more, lifeforce flourished from it that made her body tingle. She had a sprig of energy as she held the Miracle Seed voluntarily. "(Phew~! Damn, boy! Whatever this thing is, I feel like I can grow a forest beneath my toes!)"
Seeing her mildly content, Evan stood back up. "Well, guess as long as it works for you."
"Milord, can I try?" Felicia asked Corrin enthusiastically.
Corrin blinked nervously, but didn't seem to refuse. "Uh, sure Felicia. Go right ahead."
"Okay! I'll do my best!" She hurried over towards the wheel and pulled on it of her own volition. Once again, the wheel began spinning for several seconds until it slowed to a stop. However, when she was expecting a bronze ball like her friends, she instead got a small silver ball that rolled onto the plate.
"Huh? Silver?" she muttered lowly.
"Does that mean something?" Freya wondered aloud.
"Possibly. Silver is worth more value than bronze. It must mean good fortune for Lady Felicia here." Gunter pointed out.
Swallowing a lump, Felicia took a gander and placed the silver ball into the hole and watched it roll away. "I wonder what kind of prize it is?" She wondered aloud. She heard a loud clank when something came from the cubby beside her. When she looked down, she was taken back by something that sat flatly on it.
It was very small black disc, similar to a recording disc. However, in its center was an icy blue ring. When she went to pick it up, she read a label that sat beside it. "'TR 06: Blizzard'." She read aloud. She blinked several times, but looked confused. "Um...is this a good thing?"
"T-TR...?" Evan muttered. He looked just as confused as everyone else. He noticed the peculiar expressions on everyone else, but out of logic he turned towards Keith. "Uh, Keith? You sure you heard that?"
"Yeah, I heard it alright. It's supposed to be TM, not TR." He corrected.
"R-really? But the label says TR. See?" She showed Keith the small disc, expecting him to see it.
Nathan cleared his throat. "Maybe you forgot, but he's blind."
Felicia blinked in confusion before looking back at Keith. He held up the cane that was his Ditto to signal his blindness. It took a moment for Felicia to catch on. "O-oh! I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to offend you!"
Keith nonchalantly snickered. "It's fine...I'm used to it. Evan, can you read it?"
"Yeah." Evan took the disc from Felicia, looking at its surface. Almost immediately he spotted a clear difference. 'Huh...the coating is black. Thought TMs were supposed to be all about the color based on their move?' He furrowed his brow in speculation. "Huh, that's odd. It checks out...I don't know what that's about, but whatever it is, I think it can still teach a Pokémon Blizzard. I think..."
"Oh, so this disc is related to Pokémon?" Felicia gasped. She realized something else more pressing that got her worked up. "But, sadly...I don't have one. Sorry..." She looked towards the nearby people before turning towards Freya. "Here, Freya, you should take it. I insist."
Freya was surprised, but she didn't decline the offer. "Oh, thank you." She accepted the TR, choosing to save it for later.
"My pleasure." Felicia cheekily giggled. "Who knew having a lottery would be so thrilling!"
"Yeah. Sure looks like it." Corrin grinned. He couldn't help but feel enthralled by the idea. He was tempted to try it out as well before Hunter brought himself into the conversation.
"Milord, with all do respect, we should really invest ourselves in our new surroundings as well. Perhaps later."
"Yeah, guess so. C'mon, guess we should check out the other new places for now." Corrin turned and exited the Lottery Shop, along with the others behind him.
The next building everyone visited was one that was more accommodating for their group size. It was a one-story building, with finer walls for more durability. Said walls were composed of welded stone, with small windows to allow light in through all corners. While the outside had a slick brown roofing, the interior had dark brown, fine wood along the bottom. It all looked clean, but on various displays all around them were an assortment of weapons held in glass containers with prices marked on them.
Corrin and everyone else filed inside, admiring the interior and the various weapons that were on hand. They ranged from swords, to katanas, to scrolls, and even grimoires. They all looked mildly surprised at the large assortment available towards them.
"Woah~!" Felicia's eyes widened in shock. She saw numerous daggers beside her, immediately piquing her interests. "Wow, look at all these weapons!"
"I don't think I've seen this many myself in one place before..." DK swallowed a lump. He found himself gazing towards the daggers too. "Man, never knew that so many looked like kitchen knives to me."
"This must be an armory." Gunter preached, a small grin appearing on his face. "Though I must say, the selection here is rather mild."
"R-really? You think this is tame?" DK questioned aloud.
"Quite so. I've been to many myself. And judging by the weapons alike, they're all ranged between Nohr and Hoshido."
Evan paused to realize that Gunter was onto something. He looked over at the katanas, recognizing the bronze katana that was on the wall aside from the shuriken. Immediately he thought of the one he lost back when Corrin went on his draconic rampage. Of course he had the Killing Edge now, but the problem for him was that he had little to no experience with the art of the blade.
"Huh..." He hummed lightly towards himself. "Guess we should come around here often, huh?"
Freya, barely hearing his small words, glanced at him. "What?"
"Hm? Oh, uh, nothing. Just thinking out loud a little is all." He scanned the remainder of the walls for the weapons that were available. "So many...but wait, what's with these prices?"
"We actually have to pay this time?" Nathan raised a brow.
"It would seem so. I presume that making these has relevance to currency here." Azura pointed out.
Damon smacked his lips out of annoyance. "Man! For real, fo'?" he groaned. "But we ain't gotz no money. Dat stupid little village didn't have shit but bread! Knew I should have looked harder inside dose damn pots!"
Nathan furrowed his brow. "Well, I don't know about you guys, but we already have weapons right now anyway." He held up his Armorslayer to prove his point.
"I mean, these daggers are kinds cool...but Nathan kinda has a point. I mean, these daggers and knives look pretty good and all that, but hey, I'm as broke as I was when I was back home, heh..." DK meekly chimed.
Keith put a hand to his chin, humming to himself. Of course this didn't go unnoticed by Corrin. "Oh, what is it, Keith?"
"Hm? Oh, nothing. I was just thinking of something was all."
"Really? About what?"
He shook his head modestly. "Nothing important right now. How's about we check out the other places first. Not like they'll be going anywhere, unlike us. Right?"
While Corrin was genuinely curious at the International Policeman's pondering state, he couldn't deny that what he said was entirely wrong. They had to check out the other places and areas that was worth their time. With mild delight, Corrin and the others ushered out of the armory.
Everyone moved onto their next destination. When they stepped out, they noticed the two massive statues that bordered on either side of the castle's main chambers northward. The two statues stood at least fifteen feet tall, with both having different postures and colors. Both looked like dragons, though one was white and the other being black. The black dragon's posture was a quadruped, horned beast with large wings. The membranes looked small, so the joints on the wings looked like crooked claws that hugged the dragon's sides.
On the other side, however, was the white dragon. It took on a more regal stature, with smaller wings and a serpentine frame. The long body coiled around the beastly statue as it stared directly at anyone who gazed at it from the front.
Either way, everyone was mildly shocked at what they saw; nothing more, nothing less.
"Woah, okay. Never seen these here before. They look pretty cool though..." Evan marveled at the statues, keeping an open mind while retaining his opinion so as not to make it too broad.
"Wow, those actually look pretty cool! I'm impressed!" DK chimed loudly.
"Oooooh~! Yes! They look pretty good to me! Yes!" Poopenschmir chirped. "But I do have one question."
"Yes, what is it?" Azura asked.
"These two dragons, I don't suppose that they are relevant to this, er...how should I say this...?"
"Oh, you mean dat Ana-!" Before Damon could continue to answer the question, Keith's cane swiftly transformed into Ditto and slung after his head. The gelatinous mass wrapped around his mouth, muffling him from saying the name aloud for anyone to hear.
"Keith?!" Corrin exclaimed.
Keith cleared his throat. "Sorry about that...but we really shouldn't get carried away...not even for a second." He frowned. "That said, we should really talk about this, how we're going to explain about this without worrying about our lives."
"Okay...but how?" Freya shook her head, imploring an answer rather impatiently.
Evan interceded attempting to break the subject loosely. "How's about we talk about something else instead? Like what those statues are." He turned towards Gunter and Azura. "Gunter, Azura. Do you know anything about these two dragons by chance?"
Gunter admired the draconic black statue, putting a hand to his chin. "Let me see...hmmm..." He went quiet as he marveled at it. "...ah, yes. It's coming back to me now. Yes, I believe that this the Dusk Dragon that governed the protection of Nohr."
"The Dusk Dragon, you say?" Keith inquired.
Gunter nodded, continuing the fable. "Yes. You see, according to the tales, the Dusk Dragon was the overseer of our homeland. And it was because of him that his blood runs through the royal family as of now. It's also been said that he was the one responsible for enchanting the royal weapons as well belonging to Lord Xander and Leo...at least, that was the fable."
Evan furrowed his brow, recalling his encounter in the courtyard back in Nohr. "Yeah...I won't doubt that." He turned towards Azura. "So I guess the same if for Hoshido and the Dawn Dragon, maybe?"
Azura humbly nodded. "Yes. It's not unheard of, but I've been told that the Dawn Dragon's blood resides within the Hoshidan family. The fact that they are capable of using Dragon Veins themselves makes that point clear." She turned towards the statues. "The statue before you stands as a physical representation of such a manifestation depicted of the original Dawn Dragon."
Evan and Freya hummed, both neither uncertain nor certain of the details described towards them. The ideology behind it partially invested the firmer, but Freya seemed more neutral if her tossing another lock behind her shoulder meant anything.
"Well, it definitely puts up a theme at least." Felicia noted on a high note.
Azura smiled in delight. "Yes...you can say that. Shall we see what else is in store for us?"
"Let's go then. Ditto!" With the call, Keith held out his palm waiting to grasp something. Soon enough, Ditto lunged off Damon and transformed into a white cane. He gripped it and turned towards a panting Damon. "Sorry about that. You alright, Damon?"
Damon wheezed in and out, trying to catch his breath. "You...you popo and yo Pookymans are crazy, fo!" he wheezed. "If I wasn't so low on bullets, I'd bust yo cap big time!"
Keith smirked. "Guess it's a good thing bullets don't exist here then."
Damon smacked his lips. "Of course you'd be saying dat." He eyerolled and walked away, groaning. "Damn popo, giving me a hard time..."
Everyone walked towards the next adjacent area, which housed a closed-off area that was surprisingly large to accommodate all large number of people. One could say that it was as big as a football field – at least to Evan back when he was still in high school. But in terms of size comparison, it was about that size, perhaps a little smaller.
"Check this out...!" The scenery genuinely piqued Evan. His eyes were glued towards the arena, where there was a white, rectangular outline with a solid line dividing the two sides. 'It's almost like a battlefield like you see at the Indigo Plateau...'
Nathan stepped towards the stone bleachers, carved perfectly to accommodate a potential small-scale audience. "Not bad..." He spoke rather tiredly, if hardy at all. The hours lagging in sleep were finally catching up to him.
"Is this an arena?" Corrin gasped aloud.
Azura stepped forward, admiring the view. "For an area meant for combat, it's spaced out quite well,"
"I've always trained and fought in the castle courtyard. This might be the first time I've seen an actual arena." Corrin admitted aloud.
"I'll say. We could have a lot of good Pokémon Battles here for practice." Evan pointed out.
Corrin's eyes widened at the prospect. "That's right...that might actually be a good idea! We can train not only ourselves, but also our allies we catch! That's genius, Evan!"
Evan raised a brow. "It's really nothing. We just have battlefields set up similar to this one back where we come from. Though it's really meant more for the Pokémon and not actually people..."
"I'm sure we can work it out. We should probably see just how powerful your Bellsprout is now that it has that Miracle Seed, right?"
"Sounds like a good idea to me."
Before they proceeded, however, Gunter intervened with a loud cough. "Milord, with all do respect, perhaps we should all hold until we've inspected the rest of the grounds before we break in any new ideas. It isn't wise to procrastinate when knowledge of your surroundings is key."
Corrin frowned, looking mildly nervous. "Yeah, guess you're right. Sorry about that."
Gunter grinned. "It's no trouble...but I am looking forward to the progress being made. Perhaps your friend can help in training my Larvitar as well."
Evan grinned. "Sure, we can work it out I guess." He sighed. "Well, what's next?"
"Let's go find out." Azura proceeded away from the arena, with much of the roster following behind her.
Their last shop took them to another one-story domain, no bigger than the armory that wasn't too far away. They all stepped into the building, which was also made of stone walls welded together. The interior was clean, with laminated wooden flooring and windows pouring light into the domain. However, rather than weapons and armor lying about, there were assortments of clothing and accessories almost like a clothing store.
"Woah! Look at all these clothes!" Felicia gasped, seeing the assortments of robes and hats that laid everywhere. Her eyes almost immediately glued to a pair of high heels, much to her shock...and partial interest.
"So I take it that this is more for casual means rather than battle." Gunter noted aloud.
"Looks like it." Nathan nonchalantly answered. He looked over towards the wall, seeing an under-armor shirt selection. Right beside it, he noticed other accessories like headbands and bandages. Some were even fur-lined, much to his own inquiries. 'It's like a mall's clothing shop.'
"Woah~, just look at all these!" DK gasped, holding a hand to his gaping mouth. He eyed something shocking that grabbed his immediate attention. "Could that be...?" He walked closer towards a white chef hat, which was hung by a small hook against the wall. He eyed it as though it were national treasure. "Oh my god! An actual clean chef hat! Oh man, I can actually wear something clean for once!"
"Oooooh, fo'! Look at dese shades!" Damon held up a pair of black shades that were close to DK and the hat collection. "Man, dese be looking nice. I can be gaming, and den somebody ask me 'what's up?", and den I'll be like..." He pulled the shades down a little, tilting his head down with a raised brow. "You talking to me, fo'? Hehe!"
DK gave him a furrowed brow. "Right...sure..."
Evan looked around, admiring everything that was present. "Huh, gotta say, this is a pretty good selection, I guess."
Freya hummed, shaking her head as she put a hand on Evan's shoulder. "Mmm, trust me Evan, all this isn't anything like the stuff back home." She turned towards the surroundings walls. "But it's still a nice place, I guess..."
Evan turned towards her, raising a brow. "So then there's a lot more clothing stores in the Galar region where you come from?"
"Oh of course. Trust me, their sales blow up like crazy." She smirked. "Though, it always annoyed my mom at times. That woman managed everything and it drove us crazy."
"Huh..." Evan trailed off. He wanted to say something relevant like about the times his mother dragged him out for shopping for nice clothes. But at the end of the day, he really didn't find it appropriate to bring up his mother, or Freya's for that matter. Instead, he diverted his attention span towards the loose stitching of where she was cut the one time, as evident on her black jacket.
A frown crossed his face as he looked down at his clue shirt. It was completely dirty from all the traveling and the lack of a real laundry machine to do the work for him. He sighed out his nostrils and looked back at the wardrobe selections. 'Guess a change of style wouldn't hurt. Not like we have anything else...'
Damon was about to walk away with the shades still on, but then he noticed something else. "Wait...! Fo', you shittin' me!? Dese things have prices too!? Oooooh~! Dis damn realm be grimy as fuck, fo'! Uuuuugh~!"
"Wait...are you serious!?" DK looked down at the chef hat's interior, recognizing a small price tag stitched onto it. "Are you serious?! What the hell!? There isn't anything like a government or an IRS here anyways! Why they try to extort us like this?!" He broke down in a detestable, loud groan.
"I see...guess that makes things a little unfair for you guys...though, what exactly is an IRS?" Corrin questioned aloud.
DK sighed heavily, shaking his head. "It's nothing. Just be glad it's not part of your system here." He facepalmed. "But how are we going to pay for all this?"
"Fo', I said it before, I says it again. Be better be ransacking for change or charging people, ya hear?" Damon suggested.
DK gasped. "Really? You think that'll work?"
DK shrugged. "Not unless dey wanna end up killed by either dese ghosts or whatever kinda monsters dis world be having. Aye, I', just saying dat, fo'."
A loud cough was heard, gathering everyone's attention. They all turned around to face Keith. "Well, before we decide to commit extortion, Damon, perhaps you should all hear me out first." He started reaching for something he had in his pockets, drawing inquired stares from his peers. "Well, it might be a waste of reserved funds...it was still a good idea to save these for a rainy day such as this."
He pulled his hand out and showed everyone what he had stashed away. In his pockets, there were two huge nuggets made of pure gold. They glistened in the light to show how well in condition they were. Everyone marveled with shock and awe at the pure gold in his hands.
Corrin gasped, looking mildly surprised. "Keith, where did you get those?"
"They look like the balls from the lottery. Perhaps he..." Azura trailed off, coming to a scandalous conclusion.
Keith shook his head. "Please, Azura. I don't stoop to that kind of petty. These are just what's known as Big Nuggets from our world." He explained.
Evan blinked, realizing something else. "Hold on, can't you sell those for a ridiculously high value?"
Keith smirked at him. "Ah, you're catching on. We might be broke now, but hopefully this will pass off as a substitute. Alright then...who needs a wardrobe change?"
1 Hour Later
Corrin, Azura, Felicia, Gunter, and Poopenschmir stepped into the open. They faced the current armory shop that they thought to suit everyone up. Thankfully fir them, the cost of all their gear was paid handsomely by Keith, whose sum was actually more than plenty to leave some leftover, The small group turned back and waited for everyone else to come out.
"Well then, that should do it." Keith chimed highly, seemingly proud of his contribution. "Alright, who wants to come out first?"
Gunter raised a brow. "You're not going to spend some for yourself there?"
Keith turned towards the voice, grinning. "Much appreciated, but as resourceful as I am, I can't exactly move too well without some guidance..." He held up his Ditto cane to gesture his point. "But don't worry about me, I can manage just fine."
Gunter hummed in acknowledgment. "Quite confident in your allies, are we?"
His grin molded into a smirk. "Trust me, they're more dependable than you give them credit for." He faced the armory's general direction. "Alright! You can come out now!"
The first to step out was none other than Evan, taking the initiative. Upon stepping out, his Poke Ball beanie remined untouched, but much of everything else was changed. A tight, black, short-sleeved under-armor hugged his upper body. Shoulder pauldrons with navy blue metal and silver mineral protected his shoulders. Brown belts supported them and the pectoral armor. A brown belt held up two massive, blue cloths that were supposed to be cut resistant. They protected his black pants, which were protected by shinguards, and adorned steel-toe shoes. He adorned black, fingerless gloves, with his left arm lacing a medium-sized shield that could detach by straps alone. The Killing Edge was attached to his armor's back so he could pull it out at any given time.
Evan presented himself in front of everyone, his arms stretched out. "So guys, what do you think?"
Corrin smiled approvingly. "Looks really well on you, Evan. How's it feel?"
Evan moved his shoulders around to see how the paulrons protected and moved along with him. He then moved his ankles to test the steel-toe heels and how they clanged against the ground. "Not bad. It feels weird wearing armor like this, but at least it functions."
"That's the most important part." Keith chimed in. "Plus, you got a shield too, right?"
Evan looked down at the mentioned defense strapped to his left arm. "Yeah, it's just good measure. This armor doesn't cover my arms too well, so this is just insurance."
"Well thought out. Very good." Gunter commended.
"Thanks." Evan turned back towards the shop. "Hey, Freya, you ready?"
"I'm coming." Freya soon filed out as Evan made room for the Galarian woman. When she stepped out, she sported a whole new attire that almost reminisced that of a witch, if not sorceress. Her long, black hair was left alone, though a white ribbon tied it all at the bottom. She had a black robe top that was shoulderless and strapless, revealing her bare, milk chocolate skin tone. There were white straps at where the cleavage was that looped around her neck to support it as it hugged her figure. The edging of the robe was white, with a white sash around the waist to keep it in place. Her bottom half sported a black cloth that hugged her thick, sexy frame. On the front was a pure white insignia that had four pointed spokes connected by rings, with three small plate-like features on either side. She adorned high stocking boots that were also steel-toe. To complete the ensemble, she also adorned a black witch hat.
Felicia's eyes widened in amazement. "Oh my! Lady Freya, you look great!"
Freya bashfully grinned. "You think so?" She turned towards Evan. "What do you think, Evan?"
Evan eyed her, albeit in earnest. "I mean, yeah. You look gorgeous in that, Freya. But are you able to move around in that at least? That's what I worry about."
"I mean, yeah. I can move just fine. Everything else in there really wasn't my size." She pivoted around, showing her boots and the black cloth that concealed her lower-half. "This skirt is pretty thick, so it should protect me like you said, Evan."
"That's the important part. Still, you look good."
Freya chuckled at him and smiled. She seemed pleasantly pleased with Evan looking out for her well-being. She walked to his side as both looked back towards the entrance to see who would come out next.
They all looked ahead, seeing none other than Nathan show himself. However, unlike his usual appearance, his was different like everyone else. Liem Evan, he had under-armor, but was a dark blue coloring and was long-sleeved. Two black gauntlets braced his forearms. A dark blue drape-like mantle acted like a scarf for around his shoulders and upper body. His upper body was exposed, albeit a dark blue guard with golden edging around his abs. He wore black baggy pants with iron shinguards. His shoes were made solemnly for running, so they didn't protect him like the ones Evan and Freya wore. His Armorslayer and Wyrmslayer blades were held in both grips.
Gunter smirked. "Well, well, not so bad either. A rather fine choice I do say so myself. I must say, never seen much of a warrior who doesn't protect his body than so his arms. Interesting."
"Are you sure that you can hold both those at once, Nathan?" Azura asked worriedly. "They're both fairly heavy individually."
Nathan lifted both his forearms, gripping his blades tightly. "Yeah, this should be just fine. Plus I can always drop them and strike hard with my fists if I need to. It works either way."
Keith nodded and grinned. "Sound argument."
"Oh, is it my turn now, fo'?" A voice called from inside the shop.
Nathan glanced back inside. "Yeah, c'mon."
"Sweet!" Stepping out next was none other than Damon. On his face were a pair of shades, while the black cap remained left alone. A black, long-sleeved windbreaker with gold edging went over his black shirt. He had dark, fingerless gloves, with a brown belt to help him carry his Glock, along with pouches for ammo and anything he finds. His pants were guarded by iron shinguards as well. His new shoes were bright red with white edging. His S-shaped emblem shined brightly on his gold chain.
"Oh~, fo'! I am feeling fly! Dats f, to the l, to. De. I. Fly! Now, who wants to mess with me now, huh? Anyone?" He challenged with deep levels of both swagger and confidence.
'That's not how you spell fly...' Evan thought to himself. He would have said that aloud, but he didn't want a gun pointed at his face like what happened the first time.
Damon huffed and nodded at everyone around him. "Y'all better watch out, cuz the Skull squad be pimpin' up dis joint." He walked away, leaving an open space for the last person who got a wardrobe change.
"Is it my turn? Okay, here goes...haha!" Popping out was none other than Chef DK. "Surprise!"
Everyone looked at his attire from top to bottom. While it didn't look drastically different than what they had pictured, they noticed the thicker apron around his waist. He also had steel-toe brown boots, along with a clean chef hat that he ogled at earlier. In his hand was a knife with the blade embedded into an apple ornament.
"Well guys, what do you think? Pretty nice if I do say so myself." DK beamed with pride.
Farfetch'd eyerolled, barely showing any investment. "(Flatter yourself so much, aren't you? Try not to hurt yourself in your confusion.)"
Azura modestly hummed, giving the apparel a small grin. "It's not bad...but may I ask, what exactly is different about it?"
DK looked at her like she committed a crime. "W-well..." He looked down at his chef attire to see it wasn't like the others, how their attires were fitted to change completely. "...I mean, at least I have chainmail underneath. C'mon, guys! I even have this stupid thing!" He waved the knife in front of him for everyone to evaluate.
"Fo', why's it got an apple stuck in it? You cutting something and den rushed here or something?" Damon questioned.
DK shot him a look. "No! It's called a Fruit Knife! It's an actual battle knife, so I can defend myself!"
"But why d'apple, doh?"
DK facepalmed, sighing angrily. "God...look, I don't know myself. I questioned that when I saw it the first time. Just know that it can heal me if I cut or stab someone, or whatever the sign said."
"So it's like how a Leech Life or Horn Leech works?" Evan clarified.
"Uh, sure. Whatever gets your brain to process it better..." DK sighed pessimistically. "Man, so anticlimactic. Definitely not what I had wanted, but..." He took a breath out before straightening up. "Well, guess there's no use crying over it now. At least we don't have to worry about being defenseless like before! Wooooh!" He laughed. "Well, guess it's time to work out this new gimmick! Who's up for some nice, beefy, mustard roast?"
Everyone recoiled at his suggestion. Corrin especially looked surprised. "Um...mustard, Chef DK?"
"Hm? Yeah, of course. People like using ketchup for chicken tenders, so I thought adding some mustard to beef would spice it up. A little whipping cream and sauce it up and layer it. It's gonna be so good~!" He sang as he walked past everyone. "Alright everyone, you all must be hungry after that paddling, so let me serve you up a nice meal to celebrate! Come along, Farfetch'd!"
"(Here we go again.)" Farfetch'd eyerolled as he took his leek to his beak and flew over everyone's head to follow his trainer.
"Here we go again..." Nathan lowly muttered, following his wake with everyone else in tow. At the end of the day, they couldn't deny that they were hungry. They all made way towards the mess hall in wait of another serving of their chef's "cooking".
Meanwhile, inside her shrine, Lilith was enjoying a nice, sound nap. Though she could have taken one sooner, she opted to slumber only recently. With the recent escalation as of last night, even she was prone to some anxiety. Though with Corrin back, some alleviation was met; the usage of Dragon Veins also had their fair share of contributions.
With her finally able to sleep soundly after a lengthy toll, her body was gradually recovering its strength. However, her powers of awareness barely nudged her awake. Her orb shined dimly as a sense of alert for her.
"Mmmm...mmm...?" Gradually stirring in her half-sleepy state, she blinked and noticed a white coat with equally white hair heading her way. "Mmm, who's there...Lord Corrin...?"
However, it wasn't him, yet another person with white hair. "Er, hello...Miss Lilith, yes?"
Hearing the fractured, accented tone, Lilith blinked several times and recognized the figure before her. "Oh, Doctor Poopenschmir. Is there something troubling you?"
"No, no. Everything is well and all. I just came by to tell you thank you for last night. It was a big help indeed!"
Lilith smiled graciously. "Oh! Well in that case, you are very welcome."
Poopenschmir nodded vigorously. "Yes, of course. But, uh, I know that you might be running low now, but this is very important." He leaned in anxiously. "Do you, by chance, happen to have enough power to remake a lab?"
Lilith blinked in confusion. "A 'lab'?"
He jumped back. "Yes! Y-you see, a lab, is a big place where one is surrounded by machines. Huge!" He expanded his arms out to exaggerate his point.
"Okay...?"
"Yeahyeahyeah! So, and a lab had a bunch of fancy equipment that has many metal parts and gadgets that allows one to build stuff!"
"So...like a workshop? Like carpentry?"
"No...but...well, maybe...something like dat." He rolled his head back and forth as he hesitated. "Eeehh...l-look, I am a scientist. And where I come from, a scientist cannot build just anything out of twigs and rope. What I need is a capable facility to help me build stuff!" He paused before deflating some. "And, uh, repair the Immersifier too, I suppose..."
Lilith tilted her body, visibly confused. "Hmm...I think I can get the picture. A large facility, with metal and parts..."
"Mhm."
"And can help you invent stuff like the Immersifier..."
"Yes."
"Hmm...well, it might be worth a shot. But, unfortunately...I'm sorry to say, but even as it stands, I'm afraid that I have used up too much of my energy. Using Dragon Veins all in one go like that doesn't leave much left."
Poopenschmir sighed heavily, shaking his head and turning towards the ground. "I guess that's fair. Oh! How about this! What if I made diagrams! Yes! That way, while we are out kicking butt, and getting those parts needed, you can look over them!"
Lilith nodded in understanding. "Sure thing. I'll try my best to accommodate you, Doctor."
"Yes! I shall get to it right now! Rotom, prepare the crayons!" Poopenschmir rushed out of the small shrine with a skip in his aged step.
Lilith chuckled as she watched him take off. As entertained as she was for a minute, she felt her exhaustion overtake her again. "A lab...that sounds interesting..." She mumbled to herself shortly before her eyes closed again. It didn't take long for sleep to sweep her away once more.
With the long day eventually coming to its end, evening was gradually rolling into dusk in the Astral Planes' tranquil skies above everyone. It was a sign that the proper time to rest drew near.
Having recently bathed, Evan was in the middle of his and Freya's treehouse. The former was keeping his legs far apart as he stretched his inner thighs and bent over to touch the ground. "You hanging in there, Freya?"
Freya was on her bed fiddling with the pipes on her bagpipes. She only just got wind of what Evan asked and glanced over at him. "Hm? Yeah, I'm good. Why?"
"Just checking. At least we got lucky and didn't get into any big fights..." He brought his legs together and rolled onto his back. He arched his spine and got his lower-half as straight as possible over his frame. "Well, if you exclude Chef DK and the others."
Freya hummed, frowning. "Yeah, it looked rough for them. I'm starting to think leaing people behind like this isn't very wise."
"Well in the long run, it's not like those berries are going to just maintain themselves. All things considered, they may as well be our lifeline if things get dire. And we don't have the time in the real world to make our own garden...especially when we're on the move constantly."
"That's true."
"Besides..." Evan gradually unrolled his spine, grabbing his left ankle and bending his knee to stretch the back of his thighs. "At least now everyone is equipped...well, exclude Keith and Doctor Poopenschmir. I just hope that doesn't slow us down too much."
Freya tossed another lock over her shoulder, sighing. "I hope so, too. Though Keith isn't much of a hassle. His Pokémon are reliable."
"Yeah." Evan let go of his left leg, moving towards his right leg and pulling it in with the knee near his face. "I never thought wearing armor like that would make you feel so stiff. How does Corrin wear that stuff all the time?"
"He's had years on us. Why, you having second-thoughts about armor?"
"Not really..." His voice strained some as he lifted his leg into the air. He used his arms to climb it towards the tip. A painful, yet soothing, feeling went through his limb as he stretched the muscles. "But this stuff is going to take some getting used to. Also...I gotta start working out a little more."
Freya smirked as she chuckled. "Yeah, you're looking a little skinny there."
Evan furrowed his brow, frowning heavily in a small pout. "Thank you, Freya. I love your support..." He finished stretching his leg and sat up. His legs made another V-shape as he bent forward to try and reach for both sets of toes. "Hey, Freya, could you give me a hand here?"
"Oh, sure." Freya got off her bed, walking towards Evan,
"Just push my back forward if you can, thanks." He felt Freya's hands on his mid-back and felt her push a little more. He felt a deep stretch in his lower spine and exhaled heavily. He gripped the ends of his feet and held for several seconds until he felt less strained. "Okay...I'm good."
Freya eased her pressure and allowed Evan to get on his stomach. She saw him arch up and bend his spine upwards like frontward dog pose. He reared his head back as he felt a small stretch in the back of his neck.
"Do you know where we'll be going tomorrow?" Freya asked, starting another leg of their conversation.
"I talked with Corrin a little while we were eating. The village we were close to had a fort that wasn't terribly far away from it. I think more northeast if I remember."
"Hm, so near the Hoshidan border?" Freya personally didn't mind the idea of going to the Hoshidans side. As far s experience went, they treated them rather amicable...at least, that's what she would have thought beforehand. But now that they were a third party, both Nohr and Hoshido weren't taking them nearly as lightly as they did before.
"Yeah. I'd wager on that." Evan exhaled deeply to ease the tension in his spine. "Listen, Freya, for now, let's stick with our safest route. Your Pokémon are good with distance attacks, so as long as we keep our distance for the most part, we should handle ourselves."
She nodded. "Right." A small grin appeared on her face. "Has anybody ever told you that you have a knack for being thoughtful on the field?"
"Maybe a couple times...but like I said before..." He finished his stretching, standing back up. "I went to school. I had years of practice with battling. Just like Corrin with the sword and you with your bagpipes. It's just my edge."
Freya chuckled. "You being modest with me?"
"Am I ever modest?" he smirked back.
Freya shook her head, eyerolling. "I didn't think so before."
"Well...guess we better turn in. Got another big day ahead of us tomorrow. Let's get some rest while we still can." Evan walked over towards his bed, pulling his beanie over his eyes. "Night, Freya. Don't let the Bug-types use Bug Bite."
"Sure...night, Evan."
It didn't take too long for the two to find themselves situated in their separate beds. Exhaustion was quick to overtake them as they soon found the warm embrace of sleep.
The dawn of a new day soon blossomed for everyone. With everyone gathered, they all made sure to finish up whatever rations of bread and foods that were available to them – that went for whatever Damon had taken as well from the village. Much to his chagrin, he was at least compliant when enough reason got through to him for everyone to have at least something to stomach other than whatever Chef DK cooked. Even now, the taste of zesty mustard stained their tongues.
It didn't help either when the roast was overcooked to a borderline crisp. But as opposed to what they out up with regarding the past few times he's cooked for them, it was at least tolerable to ingest.
Once everyone was assembled in the courtyard, all of them were geared up and ready upon Corrin's word. He stood before everyone and took a short breath.
"Okay...so is everyone ready then?" he started.
DK raised an arm. "I mean, I'm ready."
"Same here, fo'. Gonna go kills me some haters!" Damon declared brashly.
"Right...though hopefully that won't have to be the case, Damon." For Corrin's sake, he sure hoped that was the case. He pressed on. "Alright, when we return, we'll pick up from where we left off and head east. Hopefully we'll find some Pokémon along the way."
"Okay, guess that's a plan." DK nodded in understanding.
"I think you're forgetting the most important part here." Evan pointed out, garnering everyone's attention. "How are we supposed to tell them about our...'problem', without actually saying it? It's understandable for us because we've been there, but it's not like the others are going to take our word for it."
"Evan..." Corrin frowned, visibly discouraged by the drawback.
"He's right." Stepping up beside him was Nathan. "Gotta look in their perspective for a change, man. If someone came along, trying to convince me that our real enemy isn't the other side, you honestly think you'd easily be swayed by a false hope? Besides, even if you somehow did manage to coax them, you'd have to tell them the truth once the time comes to head back in. That'll stab some people in their backs."
Keith frowned. "As forward as that was...I'm afraid Nathan isn't exactly wrong. You have to look at this realistically. People need security to retain their sense of loyalty. If we tell them the truth...we'll die. We're already in danger just jumping around the subject like this."
"And yet, if we tell them nothing, we won't get far with them...yes, that is a problem." Azura put a hand to her chin. She hummed lightly as she pondered about around the subject. "There has to be something that we can do...?"
Everyone fell silent as they were thinking to themselves. Amongst them, Corrin seemed the most worried. He truly wanted to believe that everyone would follow his lead if he tried to tell them in some way. But at the sane time, there was no other way to begin with. Drawing suspicion as such if they said something like 'another enemy' wasn't very specific. And what Nathan said really stuck to him.
'Would they really not put faith ahead of themselves?'
Damon smacked his lips and sighed. "Man! All dis secrecy be annoying and shit! If it weren't for dis damn voodoo, we'd be able to get dis done faster!"
"You see? Even saying stuff like that is...wait a minute..." If Keith wasn't blind, everyone would have seen his eyes widen with an epiphany. "I think there might be a loophole we can work with!"
Hering this made Corrin's eyes spark. "Really?"
"Yes. You see, as long as we say something that shouldn't count against us, we'll still have them on our side."
"Where are you going with this?" Felicia inquired.
"I'm saying that...perhaps we'll paraphrase instead. We'll be telling the truth, but under false names and places. It's a technicality. So for example, rather than say that particular name, we can say it's by something called...perhaps, Ghetsis."
"'Ghetsis', huh?" Gunter parroted the name aloud. If he was honest, that nae ha quite the powerful ring towards it.
Keith nodded. "Yes. You see, back in our world, Ghetsis was once the supreme ruler of a radical tyranny organization called Team Plasma. He used somebody else as a face while he pulled the strings from behind the scenes. At least, that's how it was told. This is no different."
"I think I understand now..." Azura's frown of worry transformed into a smile. "I see, yes. That would make things more understandable. So from now on, we'll go by Ghetsis."
"I think that'll work, but what do we say about where he came from?" Evan added. "They might ask where his land is from?"
"Oh...right, forgot about that." Keith grimaced.
Nathan folded his arms, closing his eyes. "Then we'll say some other land in response. We can just use another land from our world then. Where's this Ghetsis guy from, you know?"
"Hm, well, he was based in the Unova Region. His whereabouts now are currently unknown."
"Then there we go. Ghetsis from Unova. So if anyone asks who the enemy is, until we go back there, we'll just say it's Ghetsis. Got that?"
Everyone nodded in understanding.
"Isn't all this copyright infringement and identity theft?" Evan wondered aloud.
Nathan shrugged. "Probably, but we're in another world, so I doubt it matters. Not unless the actual Ghetsis is here, then as far as I see it, it's still killing two birds with one stone."
Gunter stepped up, his steed in the reigns in his grip. "Then let it be so. From here on, we shall say Ghetsis from the land of Unova, nothing more so. Right, Milord?"
Seeing how everyone was able to diffuse his worries, Corrin nodded. "Right. Honestly, I really wish that I could tell them all the truth...but I understand where you're going with this logic. It's for the best." He faced everyone. "Alright, now that we have that out of the way, let's get ready to head out."
Freya looked around, realizing that something was missing from the picture. "Wait...has anyone seen that doctor?"
"Wait, you mean Poopenschmir?" DK looked around, realizing they were short the one person. "Where's that crazy doctor?"
"I'm right here!" Trotting at a moderate speed, Poopenschmir made himself known as he carried pieces of paper in his hands. When he caught up, he looked out of breath.
"Doctor Poopenschmir, what took ya?" Evan raised a brow at the exhausted man. "Where've you been?"
Poopenschmir held up his index finger to signal he needed a breath. He placed a hand on his back and propped himself up. "Just...just give me a minute...phew! Been running too much for my own good these past couple of days...oh geez..."
Evan exchanged looks with Corrin before looking back at Poopenschmir as he finally settled his escalated heart rate. He walked over towards Lilith, who was ready in wait.
"Oh, good doctor. Were you able to finish after all?"
Poopenschmir adjusted himself, fixing the papers in hand included. "Yes, yes. Of course, heh...okay, so here's what I am asking for." He showed her the papers that looked to have been drawn on by crayon.
Before Lilith was a sight that brought up numerous questions, for a lack of better word. Her reptilian gaze was fixed with slight surprise at just the amount of detail that was on the several pieces of paper. And by details, that meant the multiple 2-dimensional drawings of shaded shapes that a kindergartener could have drawn. Even the lines were barely straight, with the ends having crooked spelling and barely legible lettering. There was a lot of gray to detail walls, with tiling being a pure yellow shade. All in all, it was something to behold, for numerous reasons.
Lilith blinked, trying to decipher the drawings put before her. "Um...what might this be, good doctor?"
Poopenschmir fidgeted in place, pointing a finger towards the diagrams. "Okay, so right here, this is where the main floor would be. It would be in this corner of the fortress, right where my workshop is, see?" He pointed to the far end of the fortress, where Lilith turned and noticed a makeshift shack held up by sticks with a sheet over it like a roof. "It shall be right there, and it will cover only a fraction of the size this place has. This should give me plenty of room to work, while repairing the Immersifier, and whatever else should be done."
Lilith smiled, though nervously, it was still an appropriate gesture. "I see...I-I'll do my best to study them while you're away."
"Yes! Thank you very much! Hoot!" He jumped excitedly and clapped his hands. The professor rushed back towards everyone and fixed himself. "Okay everyone, off we go! We have to find more parts to fix the machine that shall undo everything!"
Corrin nodded firmly. "Alright then. Everyone ready?" Everyone silently nodded. "Then let's get going. Lilith...we're off!"
Lilith hummed and smiled. "Be safe."
Once more, she used her powers and the orb shined brightly. A similar glow radiated around everyone before they vanished from sight. Once again left with solidarity, Lilith was left with the only company being the crude schematics Doctor Poopenschmir left behind. The more she looked at it, the more uneasy she felt.
"Oh dear, this other world stuff will take longer to understand..."
In the grand halls of the Nohrian royal castle, everything was sound for the most part. The only noise that was kept at a stable tone were the small torches that crackled with embers that were kept at bay. They lit up the hallway that Camilla walked down.
Just as she was about to close in around the corner, someone beat her to it. Leo walked around and stopped just in front of her.
"Sister." He started, his tone off to a morbid notion.
"Hello, dear brother Leo." Camilla greeted cordially. Even for someone like her, her tone was more deflated than anything else, and for a good reason both could relate.
"Father was most...displeased with what happened. I fear we must be on guard until he has calmed down from this setback." His brow furrowed in displeasure. "To think of all people, our brother Corrin would..." He trailed off, unwilling to follow through with the speculation. He knew better than to bring up the subject when it was already a touchy subject.
Camilla frowned despondently, grieving to herself on the matter. "Yes...my dear sweet brother, those Hoshidans have done something towards him, I'm sure of it."
Leo grimaced, looking even more astute than before. "Yes. But, he as it may, we can't rewrite what has been written. I'm afraid the damage has already been done. Xander himself has come to terms with this, even though he may seem fine. We both know deep inside, he is grieving for these circumstances."
Camilla was far from enthusiastic about this new order as well. She knew Elise was downtrodden to say the least. Not once had she seen her smile when they came back from the battlefield. Xander was anything but in a gracious mood of his own either. Really out of all the siblings, Leo was the one who was able to maintain his composure the best. That or he didn't feel as strongly for Corrin to begin with. But Camilla was certain that wasn't the case. They all cared for Corrin, that was a fact. Blood or not, they were family. Or at least, that's how it was supposed to be.
However, reality was anything but kind. It wasn't something Camilla relished in, but the truth hurt a lot more than she could have imagined. The love and compassion she gave Corrin all these years, and this was how he repaid her? If this wasn't a betray, she didn't know what else to call it.
'Dear brother, how could things have come to this?' She sighed grievously. To say she was upset would be putting extremely lightly. Was there something she was missing from all this? 'It had to be those Hoshidans. It just had to be.'
However, as tempting of a prospect that was to jump at, something in the back of her mind made her hesitate. Something profound instead jumped in place of that.
"I don't care about your orders, and I don't care about how sexy you are. I still have my side to say. If you aren't going to hear me out there, then maybe you do need to be here in this ditch we're in. If Nohr's treating their people this shitty, then I ain't taking no pass to that place."
She didn't understand it herself why such a statement shot up rom out of nowhere. Normally, she'd brush things off so easily out of the loyalty that she had to her father. But Nathan's words and the experience she had hunting him down made her momentum brake to a gradual standstill. 'That boy...are his words what also affected my brother's views?'
"Camilla?"
Her eyes widened as she snapped back to really. "Yes, Leo?"
"You seem rather spacious. Is there something on your mind?"
Camilla calmly shook her head. "It's nothing. Just having some thoughts to myself is all. Did you mean to say something else?"
"I said that I was told to pass this message along. His Majesty demanded that all of our forces to retain these creatures for our war endeavors. That includes everyone, even you."
Camilla's eyes widened slightly at the news. She wasn't sure whether to be shocked at the fact her father gave her one last chance, or how she was being given the opportunity to train one of these estrange beings. "I see...thank you, Leo."
"Yes...though unfortunately, yours was already selected in advance. You are to begin training it immediately."
"I understand." She started walking away, but before she got too far, she stopped in her tracks and opened her mouth. "...Pokémon."
"Leo raised a brow. "Pardon?"
Camilla shook her head. "It's nothing. I believe that is what those estrange humans our beloved brother went with called these creatures."
"I see...I'll pass that along then." He turned away, this time taking the initiative to walk off. "Pokémon...what a strange name indeed for such strange creatures."
Camilla made way down the hallway once more to where she saw two more associates waiting for her. One of them was a Scarlet-haired woman with pigtails, while the other was a shorter woman with short blue-gray hair with a black bandana over her forehead. She had dark armor relatively similar to Camilla's, with a purple cloth serving as a mantle.
"Lady Camilla, we're here for you!" The scarlet-haired girl stated. The latter woman silently nodded beside her.
"Selena. Beruka. It does me well to see you both doing well." Camilla chimed in a neutral tone.
Selena nodded. "Of course, It's kinda our jobs to look after you since we're your retainers."
Beruka stepped forward, becoming the center of attention. "Lady Camilla, shall we assist in the training as well? His Majesty is expecting results swiftly from you."
Camilla humbly smiled, looking somewhat eased by their company. "I see. I appreciate your concerns, both of you. I suppose since Father's patience has been thin. Come."
Camilla walked down the halls, with her retainers in tow. Her steps echoed through the empty halls as her large hips swayed side to side. Even though she was partially torn up inside about the confliction before, she knew where her loyalty lied. And she valued her own life.
'Yes...I know whose will is stronger. This path must be the one I must follow. My sweet brother, someday we shall rejoin each other on the battlefield...and I shall cradle your corpse, no matter how much blood shall stain my blade in doing so.'
The entourage of Corrin found themselves traversing through the woodlands. Their destination previously set, Corrin took the lead behind Riolu, whose sensory of emotions and entities made him diligent.
He kept his paw out as a blue aura enveloped him. When he opened his eyes, he looked steadily ahead with partially shimmering irises. "(It's all clear ahead.)" He barked back, before proceeding further.
Taking the notion, Corrin glanced over his shoulder at everyone. "This way, guys. Let's keep going."
Everyone followed him closely from behind, making a long trail through the woodland areas and the tall grass. They all proceeded without worry as they had Riolu and Corrin at the frontlines. However, despite how they were safe for the most part from enemy attacks, the problem was getting there.
As Evan moved a tree branch aside, he stepped off to the side to allow Freya clear passage. Following her was Damon, then Poopenschmir, and just as DK was about to pass by, Evan's nose crinkled as he suddenly sneezed. "Achoo!" He flinched into his elbow, causing the branch to swing back around and hit DK in the face, flooring him instantaneously.
"O-ow!" He groaned painfully.
"Sorry about that..." Evan sniffled.
DK groaned angrily, if not painfully. "Ooooh...my face. My beautiful face..." He gradually got back up, grunting as he covered his nose. "Evan! What the hell!?"
"Hey, I said I was sorry. I just had to sneeze!"
DK scrunched his brow in annoyance. "Just my luck. I end up getting ambushed, and then I get assaulted, and now my nose feels crooked! Just when is my luck ever gonna change, huh?!"
"Just shut up already..." Nathan scowled lowly like a growl. Unlike the others, he stayed well behind the pack, keeping an eye on them in case things looked dicey...that, and he didn't like people following his lead. For him, this was for the better.
"So, how much farther this way should it be then?" Keith asked. His Mightyena was currently out helping guide his way.
"If I recall, Fort Jinya should only be another fifteen kilometers, should we maintain a steady pace." Gunter foretold.
"Right, okay, but how many miles is that?" DK questioned in a scowling tone.
"About nine miles." Evan elaborated.
"Wait, what?!" DK nearly stammered in his own tracks yet again. "N-Nine miles? Great, now I have to worry about my feet not being sore before we get there..."
"Don't those soles have cushioned padding?" Keith chimed from further ahead.
"Well yeah..." He trailed off when something buzzed across his face, almost spooking him completely yet again. "Gah! The fuck! That a big fly?!"
Buzzing in front of DK, minding its own business, it was a large, bright yellow fly with white patterns on its tiny frame. The large black eyes looked around and it had a very tiny proboscis. Its wings had a dark gold ovular pattern at the base of each wing. Four very thin legs led to equally miniscule joints.
"What's going on?" Corrin looked back, seeing DK preoccupied by the very small insect. "Huh? Chef DK, you okay?"
"Well yeah, but there's this damn fly in front of me!" he scowled. "Go on, shoo! Shoo!" He blew several times into the fly's face, but all that did was blow it away by a couple feet.
The fly blinked several times, gathering her bearings as she looked back at the human brushing her off. "(Huh? Oh, sorry. Didn't see you there! You could have been a little gentler, though. I'm still so small here, you know!)" she buzzed back.
DK reared back, holding up his frying pan. "Stay back! I brought this along, and I can make this into a flyswatter if I must! Haha!" he mockingly laughed back.
"Fo', why's we not going anywhere?" Damon obliviously looked around, seeing everyone fixated on the panicking Chef DK and the fly. "Fo', what's you so scared about? It's just a Cutiefly."
"A...Cutiefly?" Azura asked aloud.
Damon glanced back at her. "Yeah, girl. Dose things are common where I come from. They be harmless...but, uh, y'know...unless dey get in yo face, den you gotta shoots 'em...which is what I'm gonna do less somebody do something here really quick."
"Please, Damon. Save your ammo." Keith insisted. "Chef DK, if it's a Pokémon like our associate says, we shouldn't let it stay here."
"Well..." DK was about to make a retort, but he found himself short of anything audible to counter with. If anything, he looked at the curious fly and blinked. "...actually...yeah. Yeah, you're right! If this fly wants a piece of me, then we'll make it so! You ready, you little fly!?"
Cutiefly tilted herself in confusion. "(Huh...your aura's really wonky, you know that? You were defensive, but now you're confident...)" she buzzed. "(You're a strange human indeed!)"
With them distracted, Evan pulled out his PokeDex to help them analyze more specifics of this creature.
"Cutiefly, the Bee Fly Pokémon. An opponent's aura can tell Cutiefly what that opponent's next move will be. Then Cutiefly can glide around the attack and strike back."
Corrin's eyes widened in shock. "It...can sense aura as well?!" He looked down at Riolu. "Just like Riolu!"
"(So others can read aura like me?)" Even though he was cautious with how he worded it, even his tone specified surprise at this revelation.
Though the information was appreciated, it didn't stop DK from throwing out a Poke Ball. "Okay then, Cutiefly! Let's see how cute you are after this! Go, Farfetch'd!"
The Poke Ball flew open, revealing Farfertch'd as he stood on the ground with his leek in hand. "(Alright, what's the big emergency now? Eh...?)" He looked up, seeing the small insect buzzing just above him. "(...really? Sizing them up much?)"
"(Oh, a new Pokémon! It's been so long since I've seen anyone out here! How you doing?)" Cutiefly chimed merrily, completely ignoring the battling mood.
Farfetch'd blinked. "(Um...good?)" He looked back the chef with a furrowed brow. "(We seriously doing this?)"
"Oh, don't worry Farfetch'd. We'll make quick work! It's coming with us!" He pointed his hand out. "Now, use your Fury Cutter!"
Farfetch'd slumped his wings. Even though he was partially against it, he chose not to argue as his leek glowed bright green. He raised it up and shot after Cutiefly with a clean strike. The impact made a bright slash mark that pushed Cutiefly away as she screamed.
"(Owie!)" She groaned. She shook herself and angrily buzzed back. "(You want to go that way? Fine! Then take this!" She buzzed her wings, unleashing a mild wind with pink waves and sparkles, via Fairy Wind. The wind blew into Farfetch'd and shoved him away with a baffled grunt.
"(Gngh! Huh...guess that little thing's got some bite after all. That actually stung a little.)" he huffed.
"Oh, don't take that, Farfetch'd! It's just a little fly, you can hit harder than it can, haha!" DK mocked.
"Geez, could he actually stand to pick on somebody his own size?" Evan muttered to himself.
"Hey, I heard that, Evan!"
"Well it's true! Just hurry up and catch it!"
DK groaned anxiously. "Alright, alright. Farfetch'd use Fury Cutter!"
Farfetch'd obeyed the command and his leek glowed bright green once again. He went for another clean swipe, but unlike before, Cutiefly was able to flutter skywards and evade the swift swipe.
"(Sorry! But take this!)" She fluttered her wings, expelling a yellow-orange powder that sprinkled down onto Farfetch'd. Rather than take a gander, the duck was witty enough to showcase his own dodge and flew away from the pollen.
"Use your Sand Attack!" Farfetch'd followed up by lowering himself towards the ground. He swept his leek across the surface of the dirt in the grass and swung upwards, kicking up the residue and sandy dirt into Cutiefly. The dirt got into her face, making her close her eyes as a blue aura enveloped her, depleting her accuracy.
"(Eep! Can't see! Can't see!)" She chirped haphazardly as she tried shaking the dirt out of her eyes. She fired a thin green laser from her proboscis at Farfetch'd, via Absorb, yet the attack missed its mark and hit the stick beside him instead.
"Ha! Here we go..." DK braced himself before pointing ahead. "Now! Cut!"
Farfetch'd narrowed his eyes before drawing his leek back one more time. He lunged after Cutiefly as she was still frazzled with the sand and slashed once more, this time making a sharp, cutting trail in the wake of his swipe. The attack met its mark on Cutiefly, sending her to the ground with a harsh chirp.
"Now that's what I'm talking about! Wait a go, Farfetch'd!" DK praised uproariously.
Farfetch'd eyerolled again. "(Whatever. Still feel a little guilt over the size, but it's...well, whatever.)"
"Chef DK, you didn't defeat it, did you?" Evan questioned.
"Uh...no? Look." DK gestured towards the Cutiefly that was still buzzing her wings. However, she looked to be hardly moving. "See? She's still conscious. That means I can capture her, right?"
He nodded. "Yeah, might as well hurry up."
"Okay! Uh, Keith got any spares on ya!?"
At the call, Keith smirked and lobbed a standard Poke Ball for Chef DK to catch.
"Thank you. Okay then..." He moved the capsule closer and planted a good-luck kiss on it. "Time to catch a new Pokémon! Go!"
The capsule flung across the area into Cutiefly as she was still in a daze. The capsule made contact and immediately opened to convert her into energy tht was absorbed inside the device. It closed shut and dropped to the ground.
The Poke Ball shook once, then twice...then a third time...and then clicked.
Cutiefly was caught.
"Wooooooh! You see that, guys! I'm a natural! Hahaha!" DK celebrated to himself as he went over to pick up his newly acquired Pokémon. "How about that, I caught a Cutiefly, guys!"
"Congratulations on your new ally." Azura smiled sincerely.
"Nice job, Chef DK." Evan nonchalantly praised.
DK beamed with pride. "Yeah, yeah. I know, guys. Still, woooooh! Heh, I feel like I can take on the world now! Bring it on, Hoshido and Nohr! You can't bring me down, cuz I got a Farfetch'd and a Cutiefly! Let's see even you guys top that."
"O~kay..." Freya eyerolled, easily getting annoyed with DK's ego trip.
"Chef DK...um, perhaps you should tone it down some?" Felicia insisted. "No offense, but...it's just a little fly."
"Yeah man, you're laying it on pretty thick right now. We're all happy for you and all, but no need to milk it." Evan clarified.
DK relaxed some and sighed loudly. "Okay..."
Gunter turned back towards Corrin on his steed. "So then, shall we continue?"
Corrin responded with a subtle nod. "Yes, let's go everyone." He turned and continued venturing, with Riolu taking the initiative as well and resuming scouting ahead.
"Here we go again, fo'." Damon muttered lowly as he and everyone else resumed the trek towards their next destination.

Managed to get this done before April rolled in! Hope you all enjoyed this chapter as much as I did. I figured using the Lottery Shop would be similar to the Lottery ID that you can use to get items, though I added some random spins so that it doesn't get settled with the plain Fire Emblem Fates items. Figured I could also introduce items from PokeEarth as well.
So for the time being, everyone is back on the full roster, with the addition of Chef DK's new Cutiefly included.
As always, your reviews are appreciated for feedback!
