The battle was now over, and everyone was standing around Ludociel, who was now fading.
"It's become so quiet; tell me what happened?" Ludociel asked. "I'm afraid I can no longer see."
"It's all over, brother," said Mael softly. "The Demon King has been defeated; the threat is finally over."
'It's all thanks to the Seven Deadly Sins; they were able to accomplish what no one else had ever dreamed of doing before,' Ludociel smiled. "Oh, is that so. Just because they defeated the Demon King doesn't mean the Holy War is over."
"Easy now, brother," said Mael.
"This is just one small step along the way, the first step that will bring Angels and Demons together after despising each other for so long."
"I can only imagine," said Alvin.
"That's very true," said Ruby as she stepped forward. "But honestly, I never thought I'd ever hear you say something like that, Ludociel."
"Please forget what you heard; I've simply grown weary of this futile conflict," Ludociel admitted.
"Ludociel, you sacrificed your life to protect everyone. Thank you, we won't forget."
Ludociel smiled as he disappeared into light.
"Brother," said Mael.
"My, you finally find peace," said Ruby as she looked up towards the sky.
Across the continent, the Allied forces were still battling against the Demons, and the fighting was worse at Berk. The human defenders fought valiantly against the Demons, but they were slowly becoming overwhelmed.
A Red Demon had managed to break into the castle where Slade was defending King Topaz.
"I won't let you anywhere near his Royal Highness!" Slade vowed.
The Red Demon opened its mouth and was about to attack them with fire, and they both braced themselves. However, the attack never came, and when they opened their eyes, they saw the demon retreating. In fact, all of them were retreating.
"How come they suddenly stopped attacking us?" Slade frowned.
"Is this a miracle?" said King Topaz. "The entire Demon Army is retreating!"
"Sir Hiccup and Sir Snotlout are finally back in the present world, and Sir Meliodas is finally free of his father; there's nothing else we can ask for," said Eret. However, he noticed that the others were not in a cheerful mood. "What's wrong? What's with the long faces?"
"We're happy that everyone's back," said Fishlegs. "However, the biggest problem hasn't been resolved."
"Yes, they're right about that," said Ragnar. "The time limit under Ruby's curse is up in one day, and unfortunately, we've lost the only way to stop it."
"Meliodas and I may be free from our curse, but the curse on Princess Ruby still remains," said Hiccup regretfully.
"Meliodas, you did try to absorb the Commandments to stop the curse once and for all, but in the end, he had to defeat the Demon King."
"With things as they are, Ruby will die," Heather cried.
"And this nothing we can do about it," said Astrid clenching her fist.
"Don't worry about it; the two of us have already made a decision about that," said Ruby. "What matters most is that we got the old Meliodas back. Just as he was before, and Hiccup no longer has to suffer. If he had ended up being the Demon King, we would never have been able to see each other again. Whereas if I died, I'll simply be reincarnated."
"Sissy, I know that was your wish from the start, but are you really all right with that?" Ragnar asked.
"I could feel Meliodas' pain every time you died; it was completely unbearable," said Hiccup. "And now he gets to see you die in person, trust me when I say no one can really get over that."
"I can vouch for that," said Snotlout.
"Sorry to butt in the middle of a super serious conversation, but there is still a way to lift the curse," said Meliodas.
Everyone immediately stared at ."
"This is hardly the best time to joke around," said Astrid.
Snotlout nodded. "Astrid's right; there's no way you can just conveniently pick up the power needed to—"
Snotlout stopped when he remembered what the Demon King said about Meliodas releasing his intrinsic powers.
"No way," said Snotlout.
"You can't be serious," said Hiccup staring at him. "You got your intrinsic powers back?"
"Yeah, that seems to be the case," Meliodas smiled.
Everyone else just looked at him with blank faces.
"Meliodas?" Ruby frowned.
"Now, if everyone would just give Ruby a little room here," said Meliodas.
"Why? Is something about to begin?" Heather asked as they complied.
"That would be your cue Ragnar," said Meliodas.
"Very well," said Ragnar and raised his hands.
A dark aura surrounded Ruby and launched into the air, and began to take form.
"What is that haze around Ruby's body?" Heather asked.
"What are we looking at, Ragnar?" Fishlegs asked.
"Her curse, the visible form of it rendered by magic," Ragnar explained.
It was certainly grotesque; it resembled a chain made out of human heads that looked as if they were trying to devour one another.
"Eternal Reincarnation," said Ragnar.
"So this represents the curse that's been floating me?" said Ruby staring at it.
"Meliodas and I had a similar sort of curse placed upon us, but thanks to the Demon King's meddling, that one is now broken," Hiccup explained.
Meliodas then began to transform, and while he maintained his physical appearance, he was now wearing a pure white outfit and had the same golden hands like his father. Everyone can also sense an incredible amount of magical power emanating from him.
"What's happening?" Eret stared.
"You look different," said Astrid.
"Ruby, I'm sorry that you had to suffer for 3,000 years, but now I can finally release you from your curse," said Meliodas.
Ruby approached with he is in her eyes. "Meliodas, tell me… Will you still love me after you break the curse?"
"Well, of course, I will, forever. You'll get sick of me long before I'm sick of you."
"How romantically put," said Hiccup shaking his head.
Meliodas then looked up towards the curse. "Now be gone forever!"
He then placed his golden hands together and a beam shot up towards the curse. The moment it made contact, the curse disintegrated, leaving no trace of its presence except for bright sparkles that looked as if they were stars falling to earth.
"Oh wow," Heather beamed. "So beautiful."
"Incredible," said Ragnar. "He destroyed a curse from a god-like it was nothing."
Meliodas then returned to normal, and Ruby ran up to him and jumped into his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck.
"Our long journey has come to an end," said Meliodas.
"And on that note, I must apologise to the two of you," said Hiccup approaching them. "Because of me, the two of you suffered greatly. All I wanted was to end the Holy War, and I used the two of you to accomplish that, only to have you suffer the most terrible fate imaginable. Can you ever forgive me?"
"There's nothing to forgive," said Ruby looking at him. "You have the best of intentions; it's not your fault that our parents could not see that."
"And what matters now is that we're together," Meliodas smiled. "And you are the Seven Deadly Sins had a hand in this. Plus, you also suffered in your own way, but now it's finally over."
Ruby shook her head. "No, it's just the beginning. Let us return to Berk; everyone is waiting for us."
Hiccup nodded. "Right."
Ake and the rest of the Dragon Knights were patching up the wounded, though they were still concerned with the explosion they saw in the distance.
"There were huge explosions over in that direction earlier; I wonder how the war situation is going," he said, looking south. It was then that he saw movement appearing from the horizon. "Wait, is that…?"
Sure enough, he could see the Seven Deadly Sins making their way towards them with Ruby and Meliodas in tow.
Once there, Shanna flew into Snotlout's arms and hugged him tightly. "I'm glad you're safe; I was worried."
Ruby then approached the Dragon Knights. "Thank you all for all your hard work. The battle is over, thanks to your efforts."
"All right, everyone, let's return to Berk with the heroes, the Seven Deadly Sins!" Ake yelled.
All the Dragon Knights immediately cheered.
"We need to make a little pitstop for heading back," said Meliodas.
It was late at night, and they finally reached Asgard Castle, 12 years ago, which had been a vampire attack. Everyone within the kingdom was killed, and Berk sent the Seven Deadly Sins to eradicate the vampire menace before things escalated.
They had won, but the entire castle had been destroyed when Eret killed the vampire King.
"Asgard?" Fishlegs frowned. "This is the castle where…"
"Eret made a huge mess," Astrid finished.
"I admit I went over the top, but it had to be done," said Eret.
The twins looked at the ruins of the castle both in awe and shock.
"I heard about the vampire attack, but seeing the devastation first-hand is something else," said Tuffnut.
"So, where did the vampires even come from?" Ruffnut asked.
"The vampires tried to rebel against the Demon King; in response, he sent Zeldris to eliminate them, but instead, he imprisoned them," said Meliodas. "I don't know how they got out of doubt. Someone stumbled across the seal and accidentally broke it."
They then reached a giant hole in the ground.
"Meliodas and I will be going by ourselves from this point; the rest of your way for us here, okay," said Hiccup.
Ruby then grasped Meliodas' hand. "I'm coming too."
Hiccup looked at her and then at Meliodas and sighed. "I'm not going to argue."
The three of them then jumped down into the hole.
"Do be careful," said Eret.
Hiccup took on his Dragonborn form while Meliodas and Ruby summoned their wings. The three of them then gently floated down towards the bottom of the chasm.
"If I recall correctly, Sir Hiccup created this hole himself, didn't he?" Eret asked.
"I see," said Ragnar. "So his aim is to break the seal."
"The seal?" the twins frowned.
"When we were here 12 years ago as the vampires attacked, the Seven Deadly Sins were tasked with dealing with them. There was one vampire in particular that Hiccup did not kill. Instead, he chose to use dark magic to reseal her."
"Her?" Ruffnut frowned.
"Who was she?" Tuffnut asked.
"That vampire's name is Gelda, Zeldris' lover," said Ragnar.
Hiccup, Meliodas, and be soon reached the bottom of the chasm, which led to a large carven. There wasn't really anything inside except for a huge dark sphere made of dark magic.
Meliodas then flexed his fingers, and the sphere shattered with, revealing a beautiful woman with long blonde hair. Gelda opened her eyes and came face-to-face with the three of them.
"What's up, Gelda? Long time no see," said Meliodas.
"Meliodas," she said and looked at the three of them. "Hiccup told me of the curse that was placed upon the three of you. And I correct in assuming that your curses have finally been lifted?"
"Yeah, it only took 3,000 years from the start of the Second Holy War," said Hiccup folding his arms. "Again, I apologise for resealing, but it was the only way to preserve you. I figured that I owed you and Zeldris some happiness."
"You did nothing wrong, Hiccup; if the roles had been reversed, I would have done exactly the same thing," she admitted. "Though I will admit that I made a bet with myself that the next time I woke from this seal, I would find Zeldris standing there before me. I would never leave his side again, no matter the circumstances, but I lost my bet. I guess that means I should give up, Ian. I shall never be."
"You're wrong; Zeldris still cares about you from the bottom of his hearts!" said Meliodas strongly. "You were the driving force behind everything he did."
"And you can't give up hope," said Hiccup. "Love is always worth fighting for; my feelings for Astrid is what kept me going for 3,000 years. It was that same love that drove Zeldris to do what he needed to do."
"I love him, but I want him to say that," said Gelda. "He loves me too and that I was his hope, but there was something else that he wanted more… the Demon King's throne."
"That's exactly right," said Meliodas. "But the reason that he wanted it in the first place was so that he could make Hell a peaceful place. That way, he could be with you without any judgement or pushback from anyone."
"You say all this in the past tense," she noted. "Where is Zel now."
"He went missing after the fight with the Demon King," Meliodas admitted. "I would do anything for my little brother, but now he's—I really a failure of a big brother."
Gelda then rose up into the air and began to leave.
"Zel's no longer of this world," said Meliodas.
She looked back at him. "It doesn't matter, where ever hears. I will find him and then be at his side. Even if he is no longer of this world."
"We never did find his body. He could still be alive," said Hiccup.
Gelda nodded and flew out through the chasm.
"Something just flew out of there!" Heather noted.
They then watched as Gelda disappeared off into the distance.
Back at Berk, Topaz was looking out the window with Slade and Samson kneeling before him.
"At long last, the Holy War has come to an end, even just for the moment," said Topaz. "The suffering that my people have gone through during these disasters is immeasurable. Nothing can be done to make up for the pain of losing family and friends. However, those who have survived must not only grieve, they must also carry on and live for tomorrow."
"Your Majesty," said Slade.
'Isn't that right, Emerald?' said Topaz looking out the window.
"Your Highness, please know that we of the Dawn Roar shall devote our entire being towards rebuilding the kingdom."
"I thank you, I'd be obliged if you would stay by my side tonight."
"Sorry, your Highness…" said Samson apologetically. "…but I only have another mission to—"
Slade then punched him hard on the head, making him shut up.
"As you wish, sire," said Slade and Samson glared at him.
Gilthunder awoke to find both Ake and Gael standing over him.
"Hello," Ake waved.
"Ake? Gael?" Gilthunder frowned as he sat up. "Where am I? What happened?"
"You're in a room in Berk Castle," said Ake. "While we were getting ready to pull out and head back to the battle, we found you collapsed with Sapphire in your arms."
"That's right!" Gilthunder gasped. "Where's Sapphire?"
"I'm right here," said a voice. Gilthunder turned and saw Sapphire standing there smiling. "Fortunately, you and I were saved. It was Alvin; we'll definitely have to thank him later."
"Alvin's alive too?"
"Yes."
Ake and Gael chuckled.
"I swear Alvin's got more lives than a cat," said Gael.
"As for you, you had better stop making me worry so much of you know what's good for you," said a second voice.
Gilthunder then noticed sitting at the table, was Amber, drinking a cup of tea.
"W-worried are you?" said Gael. "Well, with all due respect, your entire journey in learning the way of the sword has me exceedingly anxious."
"Oh man, come on, you guys," said Ake. "Would you to stop arguing and get together already?"
Amber immediately spat at the tea she was drinking.
"What's your problem?" Gael asked.
"Whatever, I'm just playing," said Ake.
Sapphire then approached Gilthunder. "Tell me, is anything you want or need?"
"I don't need any as long as you're here," he said, looking into her eyes.
"Save all that lovey-dovey stuff when you two are alone!" said Ake feeling like a third wheel or the fifth wheel given the circumstances. "Sheesh, we're leaving soon."
"Why so sudden, and where to?" Gilthunder frowned.
Both Alvin and Calder were walking through the streets of Berk.
"You truly astound me, you know that," said Calder. "I can't believe you deceived one of the Archangels."
"Well, it's like I actually set out to deceive him; I generally meant what I said partly," Alvin admitted.
"You dolt."
"I'm truly sorry, Calder; I should have at least told you what was going on. But I knew if I had, you would have tried to stop me."
"Of course, I would have!" Calder roared and punched him. "You're so reckless."
"I'm sorry."
"Look as your friend; I understand you better than anybody. But you need to be more careful."
"Calder, I—"
"My wife and older brother are both dead now, and Gael is all grown up. He'll probably be starting a family of his own soon. Even Fraudrin residing in me."
"Come now, he was—"
"Oh, I know! Even so, I still can't bring myself to hate him," Calder sighed. "Anyway, that means you're the only person left in my life I complain to."
"Is that the honour or burden?" Alvin chuckled.
Calder placed his arm around his neck and dragged him away. "Tonight we will feast on a full course meal complaints to go with our booze Alvin, my boy."
"I'm way too old for that!"
Calder just laughed.
Ase was standing in front of the fountain, looking at her reflection; she felt out of place wearing a dress.
"I hope I don't look stupid," she said.
"My, was a beautiful young lady like you heading off to at this late hour?" Gabrielle asked, holding Zel's hand.
"Gabrielle and Zel, what a coincidence?" said Ase looking back at them and jumping down from the fountain. "I could ask you the same thing."
"Now, now I asked you first."
"Master, I look forward to studying with you tomorrow," said Zel.
"Good, I'm going to train you real hard," said Ase.
"What?" said Gabrielle. "Ase, why is he calling you master? What training does he mean?"
Ase leaned in towards her. "He means he wants to learn how to use a sword so that he can become a Dragon Knight and protect his sister."
Gabrielle then bent down and hugged her little brother.
"But I warn you, it won't be easy," said Ase. Then someone collided into her, and she immediately turned round to face them. "Hey, watch, we're going!"
She was then stunned to find that the person who had bumped into her was Orist with Adava and Dagur, who was now human size, standing behind him.
"Wait, I know you," Ase stared.
"Lady Adava and… uh, Sir Dagur?" Gabrielle blinked.
"You must be surprised," said Dagur. "I took the potion Heather gave me, and it ended up making me like this."
"Lady Adava, it's the land inhabited by humans," said Orist as he looked around.
"Tell me, Orist, what are you guys doing here in the kingdom?" Ase asked.
"We were called."
Toothless and Luna were sitting at the hillside, looking up at the full moon above them.
"The real world sure is beautiful," said Luna. "It certainly beats Purgatory."
"Since I do remember Purgatory and at the take your word for it," said Toothless.
"Trust me, there's no comparison; this land is much more agreeable."
The two of them continue to sit there in silence, looking at the moon.
"So, you still don't remember me, do you?"
Toothless shook his head. "Believe me, I wish I could, but every time I try, I just have this blank memory."
"Curse the Demon King, though given how he treated his own sons, I can't say I'm surprised."
"Personally, I think his children had it far worse than us."
"So I'm stuck in the worst do-over in history," Luna sighed.
"You may have taken away my memories, but I still have this feeling of warmth when I'm next to you. I can't explain it, but it feels as if my body is trying to remember the time we shared."
"I guess you will have to be enough, and we can make some new memories."
"I would love that."
Luna then began to nuzzle Toothless, and he nuzzled her right back.
"I hope when not interrupting anything," said a voice behind them.
The two of them turned and saw approaching them were Snotlout, Hiccup and Meliodas.
"I think it's clear that we are, Snotlout," said Hiccup.
"Yeah, we should've shown up at a different time," said Meliodas.
"Well, you've already interrupted us. You might as well stay," Toothless grumbled.
"Speak for yourself," Luna muttered.
"Believe us when I say that we understand that you guys want alone time," said Hiccup. "But we all agreed to meet up at the reopening of the new Black Dragon, remember."
"I guess it did slip our minds," Toothless admitted.
"I still think it's a big waste of time; I mean, who is going to go out drinking on the very same night that the Holy War ended?" said Luna.
"Let's find out," Hiccup smiled.
They all made their way to the Black Dragon, and when Hiccup opened the door, they found the place completely packed.
Everyone had shown up, even King Topaz, and everyone was celebrating. All the Seven Deadly Sins and Ruby were serving everyone food and drink. Everyone was laughing and having a great time as they remembered all those that they had lost and honoured them.
After several hours of serving food and drinks, Ruby turned to Hiccup and Meliodas, who had been working the hardest.
"Hiccup… Meliodas… you two take a breather, okay," she said. "Let Eret and the rest of us handle things here for a bit."
"You got it, thanks, Ruby," Meliodas waved as they made their way onto the balcony outside. "Come on, Hiccup, let's have a drink outside."
"Don't have to ask me twice," said Hiccup.
Once outside, the two of them toasted the two bottles they were holding and drank the wine.
"The stars are a sight for sore eyes after 1,000 years," Hiccup smiled as he looked up at the stars.
"Yeah, I missed them too," Meliodas nodded.
Hiccup looked at the empty bottle he was holding. "At this rate, the booze is going to run dry. We can't let that happen."
"You're right," said Meliodas looking at his empty bottle. "We'll have to go on a run for more soon."
"And when will that be?" Hiccup asked, raising an eyebrow.
Meliodas sighed. "I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you know; we did, after all, share the same mind for 3,000 years."
"You can't stay here much longer, can you?" said Hiccup solemnly. "So tell me, when is the day that you'll be leaving us?"
Meliodas just remained quiet as they looked at the stars.
