Ever since they defeated the Demon King, it was almost as if nature was at war with itself. Far to the North, raging winds cover the countryside causing all the animals to flee in terror. In the forest to the south, sinkholes began to split apart the forests. And both to the east and west, your tired continent was reacting to something and was beginning to close in.
Hiccup and Astrid were in bed and began to explain everything that was going on was the result of one person.
"So the rumours are true; Meliodas does plan to leave this world," said Astrid.
"Now that he has much of choice," Hiccup sighed. "In order to save Princess Ruby, Meliodas had to become the Demon King of his own volition. However, the power of the Demon King is far too great for this realm. So in order to maintain some semblance of balance, this world is trying to get rid of him."
"So all the storms are merely harbingers leading up to it? Is there nothing we can do? Is there any way we can stop them from leaving?"
"We can't, and I won't stop him either."
"What?"
"Because I couldn't stop it moving if I tried, so what with the point be? All he ever wanted was to spend time with Ruby without worrying that she might die. Now that her curse is broken, he feels that even a single day with is a lifetime."
"That would mean that Ruby would be suddenly separated from the person she loves the most. We were separated for 3,000 years, and look how much I hurt you; I can't bear to see Ruby go through that pain."
"I know, but she's a lot other than she looks, and we both know it."
Astrid nodded. "But should we lease tell the others?"
"Meliodas doesn't plan on telling anyone else about it, but even so."
The next morning everyone was making their way to the Black Dragon.
"Come on, Snotlout, you and Shanna are late!" Hiccup yelled.
Snotlout and Shanna were making their way to the Black Dragon, but they were rather late.
"Late from what?" Shanna frowned.
"Don't worry about it," said Snotlout and looked up at Hiccup. "Nah, you guys are too early!"
They soon began setting out to who knows where.
"Today, we're doing a supply run for booze, fixings and ingredients," Hiccup explained.
"All right!" the Seven Deadly Sins cried.
"They're all excited that we're finally working together again," said Ruby looking at Shanna.
"Believe me, I'm excited too," said Shanna.
"Let's all have a good time," said Heather grabbing two girls.
"I think this is the first time that girls have actually spent some quality time together," Astrid smiled.
"Hey, what about me?" Ruffnut asked.
"I don't know if you count as a girl," said Tuffnut.
That earned him a punch from Ruffnut.
"You deserve that," said Meliodas.
"Oh, Snotlout, make sure you escort Shanna properly, will you," said Fishlegs.
Snotlout looked at him. "Wait a second, who are you?"
Fishlegs glared at him. "Don't be a jerk."
Their first stop was at Bernia, where Gilthunder was working hard in redemption for the nasty things done while being coerced by Vivian.
"Hurry up, slowpoke," said Agnar as Gilthunder was pulling out some weeds. "The sun will before you're done. Make sure to get every single leaf, or else the Garuda won't become big and strong. Argh, that the Garuda you're pulling out!"
Gilthunder stopped and realised his mistake. "Oh, you're right. I'm sorry."
Agnar's mother then punched her son on the head. "Why don't you quit trying to boss around the nice Dragon Knight and help him out instead?"
"Hey, Gil, looks like they're working you pretty hard," Hiccup noted.
Agnar's eyes widened when he saw Hiccup and Ruby.
"Hey, it's the village hero!" said Agnar
"Hey there, Agnar, it's been a while," Ruby smiled.
Everyone then began doing a little shopping, damning provisions they needed as well as buying a few items for themselves.
"I figured that was why you were here," said Agnar as Hiccup just bought a few barrels of alcohol. "Are you going to buy some Bernia Ale?"
"Oh, we plan on stocking up quite a ton of it at the tavern," said Hiccup.
Agnar then turned towards Ruby and Meliodas and can help but notice how close the two of them were to one another.
"So, are those two are a thing?" Agnar asked.
"If you're asking them in a relationship, then yes," said Hiccup.
"So when is the big day? When are they going to get married?"
Hiccup just remained quiet.
Back at Berk, King Topaz was looking at the new ring that Ruby had given her.
"Wow, from Ruby to your father?" said Amber looking at the ring.
"Yes, and she made it herself," King Topaz smiled. "Impressive, isn't it? She surprised me and said it was a birthday present. Gave it to me this morning, in fact."
"Oh may, but surely she must know that your birthday isn't coming for quite some time," Sapphire frowned.
"Whatever the case, I'm not surprised by the craftsmanship," said Amber.
"Oh, and also, I'm thinking of announcing that master of business today," said King Topaz, smiling. "That should get a reaction."
"Ah, that matter," Amber nodded.
"You seem almost giddy there, father," Sapphire noted.
"Now, let's get ready for the humble homecoming party before Ruby and the others get back," he said joyously and ran off.
The Seven Deadly Sins stopped at a forest, and the girls sat down on a beautiful meadow filled with flowers.
"Don't worry, we'll be preparing the tea," said Ruby.
"Happy hunting!" Heather waved.
"Don't have too much fun out there," Astrid smiled.
"Best of luck finding the ingredients," said Ruffnut.
"Stay out of trouble," said Luna.
The boys immediately made their way into the forest, hunting ingredients both Hiccup and Meliodas went out hunting for some dangerous predators.
"Looks like we got the main dish," Meliodas smiled.
"Just let me do the cooking; we don't want to give anyone through poisoning because of you," said Hiccup.
Snotlout managed to find a small lake. "We're going to need some broth too."
He then used his Snatch skill to grab a few fish from the lake rather easily.
Eret and Tuffnut ran as quickly as they could with a giant bull on their tails.
"Can't you do something about this thing?" Tuffnut cried.
"Like what? I lost all my strength remember," Eret reminded him.
Then a plasma blast shot out of nowhere, killing the bull instantly. They turned and found Toothless standing there.
"Where would you be without me?" he said.
Ragnar and Fishlegs were busy collecting fruit; Ragnar was using his magic while Fishlegs was using his spear in its Guardian Form to grab the fruit.
"So, are you going to propose to Heather?" Fishlegs asked.
"You know as well as I do that Giants don't marry, and I'm only half-human, remember," Ragnar pointed out.
"Now marriage me be a human concept, but that doesn't mean other races can't adopt," Fishlegs pointed out. "Besides, I doubt that Heather wouldn't mind the idea."
Once they all met up, they began making their way back to the Black Dragon to join the girls.
"Okay, now that everything is taken care of, let's head back to the tavern," said Meliodas.
"But everything is not taken care of," said Eret.
Meliodas looked at him. "Don't tell me you have to pee."
"Of course not!" said Eret. "But tell me, do you plan on staying at Berk or are you planning to go somewhere else?"
Tuffnut frowned. "What are you on about?"
Hiccup sighed and turned to Meliodas. "It wasn't me, but they are not as oblivious as you think. I'm guessing, like me, they sensed that something was up."
Hiccup remembered what he had told Astrid last night.
"Meliodas doesn't plan on telling anyone about it, but even so, I can sense that everyone has an inkling about it," he said to her. "They're all just trying their best to pretend otherwise. It's because they're afraid… afraid that saying anything out loud will make it a reality."
The girls, meanwhile, were sitting at the picnic blanket talking.
"So do you think that someday way into the future, our kids will all come together as friends the same way we did?" Heather asked.
"You're getting ahead of yourself; slow down," Ruby laughed.
"Speaking as the only one of us who's actually had children, it can be a joy watching them grow up," Astrid smiled. "And I wouldn't mind being a mother again."
"And I'm pretty sure that Ruby and Meliodas' child will be adorable," said Heather. "And if she looked anything like you, Ruby, I'm sure that Meliodas would dote on her like crazy."
"What if they have a boy?" said Ruffnut.
"I get the feeling no one will be able to tell the difference," said Luna.
Shanna looked towards the forest. "So when you think Snotlout and the boys will—"
"Wait a sec, because yours a princess. Wouldn't it somehow be possible for Meliodas to be the king someday?" Heather wandered.
"A demon as king of the human kingdom and goddess as its Queen, that would be a sight to behold," said Ruffnut.
"But one that caused problems. I mean, we were fighting demons a short time ago?" Luna pointed out.
"Not if Hiccup gives them their full backing, he's, after all, the founder of the kingdom, not to mention its big hero," said Astrid.
"If that were to happen, we would all be able to see him," said Heather as tears formed in her eyes. "Any time at all. So, Meliodas won't go away, will he?"
Shanna hugged her. "It'll be okay."
"Sorry, I can't help it," said Heather as she brushed away her tears. "I'm just so worried."
Astrid sighed and looked at Ruby, knowing that was no point in hiding it anymore. "Ruby, there's something we need to tell you about Meliodas."
"Oh, I know," she said must, everyone surprised. "He's going to disappear from this world, but it's okay."
"You mean you already knew that Meliodas is going away?" Heather stared.
"Well, I didn't actually hear it from his mouth directly, but yes, I had a hunch," she admitted.
"I don't get it. How can you say that it will all be okay? The person that you love the most is going to disappear from this world, knowing that how are you going to be able to stand there and stay so calm? If it were me, I couldn't bear that feeling. We have to think of something fast."
"If Meliodas forces himself to stay, then the entire world will be in deep trouble. It simply can't be helped."
"That's coldhearted," said Heather. "He's your…"
Ruby just smiled.
"What do you mean you're going to disappear?" Tuffnut frowned, looking at Meliodas. "Where would you go after you disappear?"
"Well, most likely, I'll go to the Demon Realm," Meliodas theorised.
"The Demon Realm?"
"It is my birthplace, after all."
"I still find it hard to believe that you're going to leave Ruby all by herself; you should at least tell her about this," said Toothless.
"I tried to tell her," Meliodas admitted. "However, I imagine how she would look like after I told her I just couldn't bear to do it."
Toothless sighed. "Meliodas… you're such an idiot."
They then began making their way back to Berk, and Ruby sat outside thinking about Gelda, who went out searching for Zeldris even despite knowing he was not of this world. She was determined to be by his side, no matter whether he was part of this world or the next.
Ruby would have to agree that she would have done the exact same thing as Gelda; she would do anything to be beside the one she loved, no matter what.
Later that night, everyone was in the Royal Palace is a huge banquet was being served to everyone.
"Good evening; I would like to thank you all for gathering here on my summon at such short notice," said King Topaz.
"No problem, but what is all this about Topaz?" Hiccup asked.
King Topaz then turned to Ruby and Meliodas. "Meliodas, there is a favour that I would ask of you in front of everyone. Speaking as king of this land and as a father, I asked you to marry Ruby and become the new king in my place! Nothing would make me happier."
Meliodas immediately spat out the wine he was drinking all over King Topaz.
"I'm not getting any younger," said King Topaz as Slade wiped him down. "The truth is I went to Sapphire and Gilthunder and at the same of them first, but they declined, saying they're not cut out for the job. And I cannot count on Gael or Amber at this point.
But everyone would acknowledge you as their King without question, especially with the backing of Captain Hiccup. You have the honour and the charisma to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt. How about it, Ruby? I trust that you have no objections."
Ruby then turned to look at her father. "Listen, father, I'm sorry, but I cannot accept your proposal." She then wrapped her arms around Meliodas' arm. "I have other plans… I'm going to the Demon Realm with Meliodas."
Everyone then stared at Ruby, utterly bewildered, but no one was more shocked than Meliodas.
"What?" everyone yelled.
The storms were now getting worse as Ruby was preparing herself for her trip with the Demon Realm. Though the only thing she was bringing was a single satchel.
"Really? You only plan on only taking this satchel with you?" said Shanna.
"Yep, it's fine," said Ruby. "I'll be living in the Demon Realm for now, after all. Anything I need, I'll just have to pick up once I get there."
"But it's the Demon Realm," said Shanna. "Ain't you scared or worried?"
"Sorry, I'll be lying if I said I was," Ruby admitted. "There's no curse to deal with. Now that it's gone, I will spend my final life living as Ruby with Meliodas."
"You seem so calm; take it all in stride, but that makes sense, I guess. It is part of what makes you who you are."
"I admit, it hurts to leave everyone," Ruby confessed. "My father and sisters, everyone from the Seven Deadly Sins, the twins, Toothless and Luna. And you, Shanna, I can't tell you how important your friendship is to me as well as Heather and Astrid's, but now I have to think beyond that too—"
Shanna then placed her fingers over her lips. "It's okay; you don't have to say anything. I understand, and besides, I'm actually relieved. This was an incredibly difficult have to choose, but I'm happy that you did."
She then gave Ruby a sad smile. "Even so, it is still sad to see you go, Ruby. Just because you're leaving doesn't change the fact that we're friends."
At a Black Dragon, all the Seven Deadly Sins had gathered around Meliodas; they were all still pretty sharp with Ruby's announcement.
"Ragnar, I've got a question for you," said Heather. "What kind of place is the Demon Realm anyway?"
"It's a land polluted with impurities, full of dark miasmas that rots away the bodies of other races, where dangerous creatures roam," Ragnar answered. "Even so, with all of sissy's magical powers, it won't be a problem."
"Still, I was shocked when she said it," said Eret.
"Same here, to think that Ruby would even consider such a thing," said Astrid.
"To be honest, I would have been more surprised if she didn't consider it," said Hiccup. "I mean, we're really any of us not considering joining our loved one, even if they plan to go to the most unhospitable place imaginable."
Meliodas just thought back to when Ruby made the announcement, leaving everyone stunned.
"S-so you're really coming with me?" Meliodas stared.
"Yes, I thought long and hard," she said.
"No way! I guarantee you that you'll regret it if you do!"
"I could never regret it; I've already made up my mind."
"When she gets that look on her face, there's no stopping her," said Heather.
"Yeah, you're right," Fishlegs agreed.
"That's the true Ruby shining through," said Ragnar. "Stigma loathed the Demon Race, and yet she declared Meliodas, the next Demon King, her very lover and included him in the alliance."
Hiccup gave a small laugh. "The look on the Four Archangels' faces when she declared that was priceless. They kept on telling her that it was crazy and tried to talk out of it, but she wouldn't have it."
Ragnar nodded. "She is strong, always has been."
Astrid then turned to Meliodas. "Tell me, Meliodas. Is there anything in this world you're going to miss?"
Meliodas placed his hands behind his neck and looked at them. "I suppose I'll miss watching all you guys starting new lives. Even though the fighting is over, that doesn't mean the Demons and the other four races have buried the hatchet for good. Not to mention the great sacrifices made during this war, Gustav is a good example.
I'm sure he would have made a fine king, and I'm responsible for all those losses. I'm an awful man; for 3,000 years, I could only watch as Hiccup wandered the land in search of a way to break our curse; I wasn't even able to help my little brother, not just once but twice. Hell is exactly what I deserve."
"You know full well that's not true," said Hiccup as he rose to his feet. "I've known you for a long time, and I know for a fact that you're a caring man."
"Besides, it was hardly your fault if anyone is to be blamed. It's the Demon King for the state of the world," said Eret.
"And in the end, you stood up against your father and saved many lives in doing so," Ragnar pointed out.
"He's right; me and Hiccup would never have been able to beat him without your assistance," said Snotlout.
"You're good. Otherwise, Ruby would never follow for you," said Heather.
"And the love it is natural to go to desperate measures to protect those we care about," said Fishlegs.
"So stop kicking yourself with this foolish notion that you need to be punished," said Astrid.
"I'm only here right now because all of you were there for me," Meliodas smiled at them. "So thank you."
They all smiled back.
The next morning both Ruby and Meliodas were about to set off for the Demon Realm. Ragnar had managed to open the rift high up in the mountains, far from any kind of civilisation, and everyone had gathered to see them off.
"Ruby," said King Topaz hugging her. "I love you; live a happy life, all right."
"Yes, I will, father," Ruby promised.
"Whoa, Ragnar, you opened the gate in a pretty remote location, didn't you," said Hiccup.
"It just so happens to be the closest point of contact with the Demon Realm," he explained.
"Impressive as always," said Meliodas.
Hiccup looked at Meliodas. "Meliodas, and sorry that things had to be this way. There was any other way I would jump at the chance."
Meliodas shrugged. "Hey, I made a choice, not that it was much of a choice, mind you."
"I promise you this, I'll use whatever remains of my life in order to establish peace between the Demons and all the other four races; you have my word."
"Thanks, Hiccup."
The two of them and shook hands.
Both Heather and Astrid approached Ruby.
"I'm sorry for calling you coldhearted; I was wrong," Heather apologised. "So, please… I just… I just don't want you to leave hating me."
Ruby then grasped her hand and smiled. "I could never hate you; you'll be one of my dearest friends forever, Heather." She then looked at Astrid with the same smile. "You to Astrid."
"We'll miss you," said Astrid hugging her. "Just take care of yourself."
"Don't worry, just you and Hiccup get along for me, okay."
Astrid nodded and broke the embrace.
Ruby then made her way over to the rift. "Let's go, Meliodas."
"Ruby! Ruby!" Amber cried.
'Goodbye,' she said with tears in her eyes as she kept walking. 'I won't look back. This is it; this is my resolve. Everything that has happened up to now and what I've decided, I don't regret a single thing. So I'm going to walk, facing only forward with Meliodas.'
"So long, everybody!" Meliodas waved.
Then suddenly, a huge boulder landed right on top of Ruby, much to everyone's horror. When everyone got over the initial shock, all they could see left of Ruby was a bloodied satchel.
"Ruby!" Meliodas screamed.
