Everyone was still coming to terms with Ragnar's confession, and most of them felt betrayed.
Hiccup stood there with his hands behind his back, looking at the horizon. "I would have thought it was obvious why Ragnar didn't say anything until now. He didn't want to lose any of us; it's as simple as that."
Ragnar, meanwhile, was fighting Cath alone and blasted him with powerful beings of magic that struck with such force that he was knocked to the ground. However, he quickly recovered and swiped one of his paws at him, but Ragnar was able to teleport away in time.
He then suddenly reappeared directly behind Cath and blasted him with some powerful lightning magic. Cath then jumped back to put some distance and fired a powerful red beam of magic from his mouth. Ragnar quickly blocked the attack, but he knew he couldn't keep this up forever.
"Stand aside, Ragnar; you're not the one I want to play with," said Cath.
"Then I'll take you on," said Gustav's voice.
Cath spun around and saw him charging at him swinging his sword.
"Gustav," he said happily.
Back at Berk, everyone was now looking at Hiccup.
"What you mean he didn't want to lose us?" Snotlout asked.
"Ragnar already suffered a great loss when both Astrid and Ruby were killed, and Meliodas and myself inflicted with a terrible curse. He clearly tried to fill that hole by resurrecting Chaos, plus getting vengeance on the two deities that caused so much pain was a bonus.
"I have no doubt at the beginning so as a means to fulfil his goal, but slowly we began to fulfil that massive hole in his heart. No doubt believed it became cleaned up back then, and we would fall apart, which is clearly what is happening now. It is clear that he cared for us; otherwise, he would never have helped us the way he did in achieving our dreams."
"It does make perfect sense why he didn't tell us," said Heather.
"Yeah, but that power really is dangerous," said Fishlegs.
"True, but that could be said for any power, depending upon how it's used," said Hiccup.
"But it doesn't change the fact that he's been using us, and he played with Heather's feelings!" Fishlegs yelled.
"Ragnar has been with many women in the past, but this is the first time about the scene, and he goes out of his way to propose marriage, so I think his feelings for her are genuine. Also, let's not forget that he has saved us countless times."
"He does have a point there," said Snotlout.
"Sometimes Ragnar can be his own worst enemy," Astrid sighed.
"I get the impression that he was fighting over the decision to resurrect Chaos, but he knew it didn't. Gustav would be lost forever," Hiccup added.
"You seem to be taking his site quite a lot, Hiccup," said Fishlegs.
"Because he's my best friend, and nothing is ever going to change that," said Hiccup folding his arms.
"And nothing to change how I feel about him as well," said Heather strongly.
"If anything, this explains why all the races never truly understood each other, especially us humans," said Astrid.
"But the presets never told us about the Dragonborn; how did they claim to be?" Snotlout asked.
"Sacred ritual, both the Demons and the Angels constantly fought with one another in skirmishes, and it was us humans that got caught in the middle. We may have been very numerous, but at the same time will be far weaker," Hiccup explained. "My ancestors decided to change that and greater ritual when we would drink dragon's blood to gain their power in the purpose of defending humanity."
"I still can't believe that the Holy War was just the two deities being paranoid and envious," said Astrid bitterly.
"Okay, but what about Eret?" Fishlegs asked. "Ragnar's scheming got him killed."
"Come on, Fishface, it was Eret's choice to sacrifice himself for us; Ragnar had nothing to do with that," said Snotlout.
"True, the Demon King was always going to be a threat, and Eret would tell us that a friend is a friend no matter what," said Heather.
"Agreed," Ruby nodded.
"Regardless, we can't let Chaos roam around freely," said Meliodas. "There is a ring leader responsible for this, and he needs to be held accountable."
"So, what do you plan to do?" Hiccup asked.
Before Meliodas could answer, all of them sensed a powerful presence emanating from far away.
"Meliodas, this magic I feel…" said Ruby. "Could it be?"
"I was wrong to take you back with me," said Gustav as he swung his sword at Cath. "I will settle this myself once and for all! Prepare for oblivion!"
With some very powerful strikes, he ripped Cath apart, but he quickly regenerated almost instantly.
"And how you do that?" he asked. "You can't kill me by simply chopping me into pieces."
"I will defeat you! No matter what!" Gustav yelled as he raised his sword, which began to glow in bright light. "As king, I have a responsibility to protect this country and its people! That means it is my sworn duty to exterminate any and all that pose a threat to either!"
"Protect the country and the people?" Cath laughed. "Don't you know that both of those things are gone already?"
Gustav's eyes widened as he lowered his sword. "No way."
"Oh, didn't you know?" Cath smirked. "Xeovell no longer exists on the continent; it is the collateral damage between the battle raged between the Seven Deadly Sins and the Demon King."
"That's a lie!"
"If you don't believe me take a look for yourself; you can do so by using the power of Chaos."
Gustav decided to do just that, and he saw his entire kingdom in ruins.
"No!" he said, horrified, and fell to his knees. "This can't be…"
"Gustav!" Ragnar yelled. "Don't let your word sway your conviction!"
"But I-I can see it," said Gustav in a shaken voice. "Xeovell has been reduced to rubble. The people aren't there anymore; it's… everything has been destroyed!"
"You can rebuild your kingdom again!" Ragnar yelled. "And most of the people who have been held hostage by the Commandments are safe; they're sought refuge in Berk!"
"But the vault… the underground vault is gone too," said Gustav looking completely devastated. "I remember so many people being in there, awaiting the return of their loved ones who had been taken, hostage. I made a promise; I swore to everyone that I would restore Xeovell, and now, after all that happened—"
Cath used this opportunity to swipe his paw at him, flatting him into the ground.
"Gustav!" Ragnar cried.
He then quickly fired a barrage of spells at Cath, but he quickly jumped into the air performing a somersault. Within seconds he was directly above Ragnar and swatted him with his paw, sending him crashing to the ground. He then unleashed his magical breath attack upon him.
However, just before the spell struck, Meliodas appeared directly in front of Ragnar.
"Now Full-Counter!" he said, swinging his sword.
The spell was immediately deflected and struck Cath twice as powerfully.
Ragnar looked at him stunt. "M-Meliodas? You're—" He then quickly spun around and saw Ruby healing him. "Sissy? Both of you are here, but why?"
Ruby smiled at him and shook her head. "It's not just the two of us."
Ragnar turned and saw the other Seven Deadly Sins had arrived as well, all of them wielding their Sacred Treasures.
"Now, you didn't think I was going to let my best friend fight an impossible battle all by himself?" Hiccup smiled.
"Or that I would leave my fiance behind?" Heather added.
Ragnar quickly deduced that Fishlegs used Pollen Garden to transport them here, but that still didn't explain why they came to help.
"We should help Gustav at once," Ruby advised.
"Right," Ragnar nodded as he rose to his feet.
The two of them quickly made their way over to Gustav, and Ragnar was relieved to see that he was still breathing.
"It would seem as if he's just unconscious," he said.
"What a relief," said Ruby.
Meliodas then approached Ragnar. "Ragnar, we're going to hold you personally accountable for resurrecting Chaos. So you must devote the rest of your life to the protection and guidance of Gustav."
"You came all this way to tell me that there was no need; that is already what I had planned," Ragnar admitted.
Hiccup then approached Ragnar. "You know, sometimes you can be your own worst enemy. Do you really think we wouldn't have forgiven you? That is what true friends do. They forgive one another come what may."
"And on that note, we plan on protecting you guys for now on going forward," said Meliodas. "Sound good?"
Ragnar gave a small smile. "I'm truly unworthy of your friendship."
Then suddenly, Cath began to regenerate, even after being blasted into virtually nothing.
"I am sick and tired of everyone always getting in my way," said Cath sounding annoyed. "It's so annoying."
"That thing is starting to regenerate," said Heather.
"This is the same kind of immortality as Snotlout's?" Fishlegs asked.
"Not at all," said Ragnar. "We're dealing with a being who transcends life and death itself."
Gustav coughed as he regained consciousness.
Ragnar quickly bent down to him. "Gustav, just hang in there."
"Hey, Gustav, are you really shocked to this degree?" said Cath. "About losing your country and your people? All countries eventually fall, even if the Demon King and the Seven Deadly Sins hadn't done it; something was bound to happen to it eventually."
Cath and now fully regenerated and smiled down on all of them sadistically. "A giant meteor could have struck it and wiped it off the map, or it could have sunken into the sea and vanished. The possibilities are endless!"
"What are you getting at?" Gustav growled angrily as Ragnar helped him to his feet.
"I'm saying that the outcome is always the same."
"You don't know what you're talking about!"
"I'm warning you to quit fighting what is obviously inevitable. No matter which route you take, everyone is eventually going to die, you know. That goes for humans, animals, countries, mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, stars and even gods!"
"So you're telling me that I might as well let you easily and have done with it!"
"That's right, Gustav, you're correct."
Hiccup then raised his sword. "Enough of all this chitchat."
"You said it," said Snotlout gripping his mace. "Let's beat this guy down to a pulp, shall we?"
Cath looked at them, even more annoyed. "Dealing with you all is such a pain."
He then jumped at them, but Snotlout quickly reacted by hitting him with his mace repeatedly. However, Cath struck him, sending him flying, but thankfully Heather was able to catch him, and then she quickly swung her hammer into the ground creating a crevice which extended towards him.
Cath merely jumped into the air to avoid it and attempted to pounce on her, but Hiccup appeared in front of him and slashed his head to pieces with his blade. Both Meliodas and Ruby blasted him with their dark and light magic. Astrid then jumped onto his head just as he finished regenerating and slammed her down on top of him; the moment the blade pierced his hefty found himself unable to move. Fishlegs then used this opportunity to strike him with his spear in its Increase Form.
"All right, I'm going to defeat you myself, Cath!" Gustav proclaimed, creating several swords of light.
"Gustav… please, no!" Cath pleaded.
Gustav then compressed the light into a single blade and swung it straight down upon him cutting him in half. However, he quickly pulled himself back together.
"Just kidding."
Ragnar then suddenly cast the same spell he had used the seal the Demon King freezing Cath in place.
"Cath just stopped moving," said Heather.
"I've suspended time on him, but the curse I used is unstable," Ragnar informed them. "Possibly due to the effect of Chaos. He'll likely recover sometime in the near future, perhaps in a few decades, perhaps in a few centuries, who knows."
"Well, we'll cross that bridge when we get there," said Meliodas.
"Yes, whatever happens, we'll be fine so long as we fight together," Ruby smiled at him. "Now, let's all go home."
About a year later, both Ruby and Meliodas had their wedding, which was a very joyous occasion for the entire kingdom. Sadly the Seven Deadly Sins were not able to attend
"I wish everyone could have joined the ceremony," said Ruby as the two of them went for a walk.
Meliodas nodded. "It can't be helped; Shanna's expecting the kid Snotlout is probably not leaving her side, Hiccup and Astrid are on a long journey, Fishlegs is busy rebuilding the Fairy Kingdom, and the same could be said for Heather with the giants with Ragnar's help. It's just not easy bringing everyone back together like it used to be."
"I wonder how Gustav is doing?" Ruby wandered.
"It has been a while, and Ragnar has been back and forth between Heather and him, trying to rebuild the new kingdom with him."
Then many decades later, the inevitable happened; Meliodas being the Demon, have a much longer lifespan than that of humans. Sadly, for she had the powers of an Angel, Ruby was still human, and as such, she was reaching her final moments.
"Are you in pain?" Meliodas asked, standing by her bedside.
"I'm sorry, my love," she said weakly.
"Why are you apologising?"
"Because I'm not long of this world, and I'll be leaving you all by yourself. I've grown old and will never be reincarnated again, which means today is the last day I'll ever spend with you. It was really a happy 3,000 years. Please don't be sad, Meliodas. You're—"
She then closed her eyes for the final time.
It was then that knight burst into the room with an anxious look on his face. "Your Highness, it's an emergency!"
Meliodas sat up.
Cath had emerged and was now running rampant but only stopped when Meliodas confronted him. "Hey, long time no see. All alone today? Did everyone else already die? Ah, that's a shame."
Soon the two of them battled with one another.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Cath laughed as he began pushing him back. "You seem to be in a bit of pain. I should kill you all last battle; that way, you would have been saved from this pain and loneliness. Now you're alone and have no friends left. Give it up; there are no constants you can depend on. This world is Chaos itself. Everyone eventually fades away as though they were never here from the start!
'Don't be sad, Meliodas,' said Ruby's voice.
"No!" Meliodas yelled stubbornly.
'The beast is wrong; you're not alone. We're all with you, and we always will be forever.'
"Our bonds will never fade! Not today! Not tomorrow! Not ever!"
Meliodas then suddenly found himself back at the lake; he was breathing rather heavily and was wondering about what had just happened.
"Well, look at that," said Cath looking down at him. "What a surprise; I didn't think you would make it back."
Meliodas looked around at the others and saw that they were perfectly still; they weren't even blinking.
"Ruby! Everyone!" Meliodas panicked. He then looked at Cath. "What I experienced just now… was that some kind of hallucination? Or future reality?"
"It was neither," said Gustav, who looked unfazed, no doubt thanks to his power of Chaos. "More like a future possibility. A glimpse of the as of yet certain take on this world."
"It took an extremely strong sense of will not be fooled by it; it was so real," said Hiccup looking a little shaken.
"Hiccup? Gustav?" Meliodas stared.
"We're good; I don't think any of us will be for long unless we find some way to defeat him," said Gustav.
"That's an exercise in futility," Cath laughed. "I can't be killed. Gustav will be eaten by me, and then I will become fully unified with Chaos and then swallow everything."
Gustav suddenly got an idea, it was crazy, but it was their one and only shot. 'That's it! I've figured it out, Cath!'
Cath then suddenly pounced at them.
"I know how to defeat you!" Gustav yelled.
"That's funny, Gustav," said Cath looking amused. "So you say that you know how to defeat me? Do you tell? If chopping the won't kill me, then will you crush me? Burn me? Melt me? All the above, perhaps? It doesn't matter; I'm going to eat you hold before you have the chance."
The ground then suddenly became twisted and wrapped as Cath grew in size and began to swallow the ground with them along with it. Hiccup and Meliodas attempted to grab everyone and for them to safety, but it looked as if it was too late.
Gustav stood there and phased, staring him down. "You're wrong; the one getting eaten will be you!"
Then suddenly, a big mouth emerged from the ground swallowing them whole, and for the first time, Cath looked worried. Everyone then suddenly found themselves freed from Cath's trance.
"Wait a second, what were we just doing?" Fishlegs asked.
"Everyone! Are you all awake now?" Hiccup asked.
Heather practically screamed when she saw Cath. "What in the world is going on here?"
The sharp teeth attached to the cavern above them then began to plunge down towards Cath. However, before they made contact, he extended several sharp spikes to hold him in place, but he was now stuck. A split second later, tongue then suddenly wrapped itself around his head, attempting to pull him deeper inside.
"If I can't defeat you, then I'll absorb you!" Gustav announced. "Cath Palug will cease to exist, and I'll take back all the Chaos that you've stolen!"
Cath found himself being pulled in deeper and did everything he could to stay put. "No… I won't… give it back! As a direct descendent of Chaos, I am the only one in existence for it to wield its power!"
"Is it actually trying to push back against Gustav's power?" Heather stared.
"Tell me, what exactly do you hope to accomplish with the power of Chaos?" Gustav asked.
"I'm going to destroy everything! Anything with a form will perish and disappear! Then I'll destroy everything else that remains! Destroy! Destroy! Destroy!"
"It's sad," said Ragnar. "He's nothing but destructive will wrought by chaos."
"What about you, Gustav?" Cath asked, looking down at him. "What would you use Chaos for? Would you fail to learn your lesson and build another kingdom even though it is destined to fall? I bet every single one of your dead subjects hates you now. To them, you are the incompetent King Gustav, unable to protect his people or his country."
"Gustav!" said Hiccup.
Gustav quickly looked back at him. "Sir Hiccup?!"
"Listen, what matters is not what others think about you, but what you think about others," said Hiccup.
Gustav stood there looking at him for a few seconds before turning his gaze back upon Cath. "What I want isn't for others to acknowledge me as a good king. All I want is the chance for everyone to live happily!"
He then pointed his sword at Cath, unleashing a blinding light. "What I wish now, I don't care who laughs at me or talks behind my back. I want a land where no one suffers or experiences grief, a place where no one knows fear from any threat or disaster. I will create such a place as an everlasting kingdom!"
"An everlasting kingdom?" Cath scoffed. "Are you really this big of a fool, Gustav? Nothing is everlasting. That's an illusion." Cath was so busy talking that he failed to notice that there were cracks forming in his spikes to hold him in place. "That kind of world does not exist. It's a contradiction; it's Chaos!"
Everyone was silent until Cath just realised what he had just said.
"What do you know, the crazy beast just admitted himself," said Meliodas.
"He was right into that one," Ragnar agreed.
"Chaos is not just about destruction. It's also about creation; I guess he forgot," Hiccup smiled.
The time that was wrapped around Cath tightened.
"That's right, and I am the King of Chaos!" said Gustav.
"No!" Cath screamed just as his spikes shattered.
He then suddenly found himself being pulled deeper into the cavern, where he was welcomed by massive jaws that crashed him.
Ruby had closed her eyes, not wanting to witness what happened next.
"Ruby," said Meliodas softly.
Ruby opened her eyes she found that they were back in the normal world, and it was now the middle of the night.
"Looks like we finally made it back to the normal world," said Heather. "But what happened to Cath?"
"I think Cath is inside me," said Gustav looking down at his stomach. "Though not sure he is in my stomach or not."
"So, did you get back whatever that monster cat had stolen?" Snotlout asked.
"I wish I knew the answer to that, but I'm not really sure."
"Yes, the power of Chaos has been returned in full," said Ragnar. "What you holding your hand is more proof than anything of that."
Gustav looked down upon his sword, and it was a radiating power. "The Holy Sword!"
"That's the magic power you got there," said Hiccup approaching him. "It suits you, definitely fits for a king who would make an everlasting kingdom."
Gustav blushed. "Come on, I'm blushing. I was only trying to rise to the occasion, and what I said was pretty silly when you think about it. So…"
Hiccup then tapped him on the shoulder. "A man can't just take back a promise like that once he said out loud."
"Sir Hiccup, I—"
"Go for it, the world of the goal you set for yourself, the more that it's worth carrying out."
"Okay," Gustav nodded.
"Perhaps even too wild," said Fishlegs.
"Let's see what you've got in mind," said Hiccup. "Go out there and create that world; if you take the wrong path or make a mistake, it will be all right because…" They then bumped fists. "…the Seven Deadly Sins will be with you."
Gustav looked at them and smiled. "Thanks for that; I appreciate it. Pure purity and truth are my everlasting goal."
