In the middle of the night, the two were cuddled up together until she started tossing and turning. So much so that she fell off the bed, and woke him up.
"Nova, what's wrong." He was half asleep but when he looked over in the dark he could just make out that she seemed to be writing in agony. The pain was concentrated in her head.
"It's the vision... I've never had the same vision more than once and it keeps flashing through my head so fast, it's on a loop. It burns."
"What can I do?!" He had never encountered this in a thousand years. "Is there anything I can do?"
"I don't know." She tried her best to not scream in pain. He felt so helpless and that made him angry. Eventually she stopped and she told him in more detail about how Manta's father was coming with an army and that the shaman had to fight them because they couldn't allow them to reach their goal. "I'm sorry, the vision didn't show me what it was they wanted. I just know they're coming. I saw you and Yoh fighting side by side too. Goldva already knows that much, that's why she gathered the Patch except for me. She said she wants to keep me safe in case I have any more visions."
"Safe... so that's why you came here."
"That and I wanted to be with you. I want to spend as much time with you as I can, Lord Hao. It's time I told you, my visions are how I know you'll be Shaman King. I had a vision of you sitting on the throne. My visions have never been wrong, you will be Shaman King, it is assured."
"Thank you for telling me. Do you think you'll be okay now?"
"It's never happened like that before. I think it was a warning."
"I don't like seeing you like that, and to make matters worse I did nothing to help. I'm sorry."
"There's nothing you could do. Just need to let it pass. It's over now anyway, we can go back to sleep."
"Who needs sleep?" He was about to kiss her when she stopped him.
"We do, we can 'not' sleep tomorrow night if you wish. But after that I am really tired. I just want to rest my head."
"Understandable."
"I don't blame you for trying though."
"So you'll stay with me tomorrow night too?"
"Well if I'm going to be your wife, I need to know what it's like living with you. You know Yoh and Anna have been living together for some years now."
"I think that's just an excuse to spend more time with me but I'll happily go along with it." Hao was about to go to sleep on the floor.
"You had no problem being in the same bed before. Besides, it's cold tonight and you're a human radiator."
"Excuses." He smirked as he cuddled next to her. He kissed her on the forehead tenderly. "Goodnight, Nova."
The next morning they had slept in. The remainder of Hao's followers were already at the hot springs, including Opacho.
"Hope you slept well, Lord Hao, Lady Nova." Luchist nodded to both of them. He knew but he wouldn't say anything. They decided not to see the match and to instead spend some time relaxing.
"Lady Nova, you really like the hot springs, don't you?"
"Yeah I do Opacho, I've missed out on these for years on account of being away for so long and nowhere I travelled to had anything close to this. So I want to take advantage as much as I can. I remember my mother told me when I was a little girl that the water that flows through these mountains is so pure that just by drinking it, you'll be healed. Legend says it'll heal anything. So the day I last saw her, I brought some of the water to her and gave it to her as best I could. Well, not even mythical water can heal death." She lowered her head and a tear fell.
"Is that why you don't take about her much? Because you'll get sad?"
"Partly. But I was young at the time and I think what makes me sad more than remembering watching her die, is that I can't remember her face or the sound of her voice." When she said this, it really reached Hao deep. He knew this is why she understood how he felt and why she wanted to help him become Shaman King. Nova lifted her head and did her best to force a smile.
"Well I remember her very clearly. I didn't for a long time though. But every time I look at you, I see our mother."
"Is that why you're so angry at me all the time?" She looked down into the water to see her reflection and she realised that she does look so much like their mother.
"That and because you left. We lost both our parents that day and you. Chrom was heartbroken even though he'd never admit it. I think deep down he was more upset about losing you than losing our parents."
"I left because I would've slowed you down. I wasn't strong enough to fight. That's why... mother... if she didn't have to carry me she'd have made it."
"I never realised you watched it happen though. But we would've looked after you, me and Chrom!"
"You're the same age as me and Chrom wasn't much older. It would have been a child looking after two younger children. You couldn't fight much back then either. I left so I could travel around and learn all I can, I always promised to return once I was ready."
"It took you ten years to come back, and when you did it was because you joined the shaman tournament."
"I wanted to make sure I was strong enough to join the patch again!"
"I just wanted my sister!" His eyes were watering. This was the first time Nova had seen such emotion come from him. She didn't realise but she was crying too. She used her oversoul to create clothes as she jumped out of the water and she hugged Nichrom tightly.
"I did it all so I could protect you. I wanted to make sure nothing would hurt us again. But by doing so, I hurt you. I'm so sorry Nichrom. I promise, I'm here now. But you've got so strong yourself. I'm questioning whether you need me or not."
"I'll always need my big sister. And like it or not you're always going to need me."
"Guess they 'Patched' things up."
"Funny, Hao." Nichrom said monotone.
"A thousand years and that's the best joke you've got, a pun?" They all laughed and continued to enjoy the springs.
It suddenly came on the radio that Yoh said Hao has no friends.
"Hao has plenty of friends, what an idiot." Nichrom turned his face.
"No no, he's got a point. Luchist is his right hand man. Opacho is more like a adopted daughter really, and I'm a lot more than a friend. And you, well you're just my brother. So technically no, Hao doesn't have any friends."
"Well neither do you!"
"I have lots of friends."
"Name one?"
"Opacho." She gestured to Opacho who was jumping with joy at being called her friend.
"Uh-oh, they're back at it again, Lord Hao." Opacho looked on as the siblings began bickering once more, as if the past five minutes never happened.
"I have friends too." Nichrom sulked.
"In your head doesn't count."
"There's Magna."
"Thought you two were more than friends?"
"What?! No! I like women!"
"Oh, my bad, it's just you two are normally joined at the hip apart from when you come to see Hao."
"We patch officiants are meant to travel in pairs. You'd know that if you paid attention to the rules."
"Enough." Hao finally interrupted. "As entertaining as your sibling squabbles are, this morning is a squabble free morning. I'm in a really good mood and I don't want anything to spoil it." He stretched out.
"Even if it did I'm sure my sister could bring that good mood right back."
"Nichrom!" She dunked his head under water and apologised for Nichrom's rude comment but Hao just laughed.
"He's not wrong though, is he." Hao looked at her with his warm brown eyes and made her blush. She let Nichrom go but gave him a look as if to tell him to behave.
"Whatever. Let's just listen to how the match goes." At that moment Yoh used Na-Avidya to nullify Ren's mana. "Seems your brother learned a lot from you. This match may be more interesting than I first thought." She listened intently.
Lyserg suddenly appeared and brought the fight to a halt. As he and Gandhara explained what was going on, the first part of the tournament came to an end.
"Well that sucks, they didn't get to finish their fight. I was waiting for Yoh to pull something new out of the bag. Oh well, it can't be helped. And if it's the will of the Great Spirit then so be it." Later that night, Hao joined Yoh and friends for a bath.
"Lady Nova." Luchist had returned, not that anyone noticed he'd left in the first place. "I have prepared a lentil curry for yourself and Nichrom and there's something else too."
"That's really nice of you, Luchist. Thank you!" She opened the present he gave her and it was a set of sleepwear much similar to Hao's and a pair of pants identical to his as well as gloves to match, there was also a white shirt with a pentagram on it and a set of earring just like Hao's.
"Lord Hao mentioned you don't have any clothes of your own, so I made these for you, I wasn't sure what style you liked so I made the same as what Lord Hao wears. I hope that's okay?"
"YOU MADE THESE?!?!" She was stunned. They were very well made. She started crying. "Thank you so much Luchist, they're amazing and I love them! It means even more that you made these yourself."
"I'm pleased you like them." He smiled. Hao smiled at her reaction. She went to go change and when she came out she almost looked like Hao. Now they had matching clothes.
"They're so comfy!" She had the biggest smile on her face and did a few spins in them. They all went to eat at Hao's base.
"You know Nichrom, if you learned to cook like this then maybe you'd have a girlfriend."
"Luchist literally cooked that and he doesn't have a girlfriend." He said angrily.
"Yeah that's by choice."
"I'm single by choice too!"
"Yeah, hers!" All but Nichrom laughed and Anahol even nearly choked on his food. Despite having a laugh with everyone, Nova couldn't fully shake the feeling of dread that looked over her, knowing what was coming.
