Finn walked up to the Falcon and cupped his hands to his mouth "REY!" He shouted hoping she would hear him. She poked her head around the door and down the ramp.
"What is it, Finn?" Rey started to walk down the ramp and Finn walked up. They met in the middle.
"How is… you know…" Finn looked into Rey's eyes with a furrowed questioning brow. This was the first time he has expressed any concern for Ben Solo, and it was making him quite uncomfortable. He was lucky Rey caught on to his meaning.
"Ben's fine, he's just mending himself," Rey replied with a smile that indicated she was pleased with Finn's new attitude towards the man she had come to respect. "We should be ready to go soon."
Finn looked off to the distance and itched the side of his head. His face contorted with an acute agony."Were you going to say goodbye?" He looked at Rey again like a puppy dog about to be abandoned by its master.
Rey launched herself into Finn giving him a tight hug. "This isn't a goodbye. I'll be back." She said, "I know you want to come with me, but you're needed here." Rey released her hug so she could talk to Finn directly. "There are a handful of ex-stormtroopers who need a leader. Possibly hundreds more who need guidance. I can't think of anyone better to help them along their way."
Finn began to stare intensely at Rey. It was hard to see her leave again. He knew at this point he couldn't stop her. It was just… she was an anchor to him. If she went away he wasn't sure if anything was keeping him here. But she was right. Janna and the others were still counting on him. He had a responsibility as a general to lead them. Finn sighed "I'll miss you. One of these days I'll get you to stick around."
"Hardly!" Rey laughed. "I've got the whole galaxy to see!" She loved Finn. He was one of her closest friends. But they had different paths and it was time to go their separate ways. For a while at least. Finn was like velcro. He has stuck snuggly to Rey since the first time he grabbed her hand on Jakku. Rey chuckled at the memory. This time, she hoped, Finn would find his own way. His purpose didn't include her. It couldn't… she had already found her purpose… in her dyad.
Finn gave Rey one more hug. He took his time to let her go, and once he did she climbed slowly back into the Falcon keeping her gaze steadily on Finn. Saying a wordless goodbye with every footstep. Then she shot off to find Ben.
Finn walked dejectedly down the ramp and started for the crew quarters on Ajan Kloss where the other ex-stormtroopers slept. A determination to prove himself a good leader began to motivate him and his steps became more and more confident.
Rey was right, he was needed here. And he wasn't going to let Rey down.
