Chapter 13
Fawkes had just finished telling his father everything that there was to tell before he felt the most powerful magic erupt from afar. He quickly apologized to his father before flying straight towards the source of the magic. He knew the source was magical but at the same time it was almost like another power was mixed into it and he knew he needed to get to whatever was creating it fast. He flew and flew until he encountered a storm that was pouring down rain and the winds whipped around him so fiercely that it was hard to keep his flames from being extinguished. He looked and looked for the source and before long he found it but it was not coming from a human boy but rather a purple bipedal Pokémon who was in severe pain with a mew by its side surrounded by a psychic bubble as the mew desperately tried to talk to the Pokémon as its pain continued.
"Mew!" Fawkes yelled over the wind and rain to the small legendary Pokémon that was in the bubble. "What's going on?"
Mew opened a small opening to the bubble and flew out before closing it. Fawkes could only wince in sympathy at the pain filled roars he heard before the bubble closed. "Moltres, why are you here?" Mew asked as she got another psychic bubble set up around them to not get completely drenched by the rain.
"I felt a power explode and I was called here." Fawkes explained. "Is that Pokémon alright? And which Pokémon is it?"
Mew hesitated but before she could say anything the storm stopped and she immediately let go of her psychic bubbles and went to the Pokémon who now was laying limp upon the ground. "Mew!" A woman's voice rang out before Moltres was almost knocked over by a woman who immediately knelt by the Pokémon and started to try to help it.
Fawkes had to stand aside and just watch as the woman worked before announcing himself to her.
…
Delia rushed outside as soon as the storm cleared, and knelt by Mewtwo and Mew before sighing in relief as Mewtwo seemed to have just passed out from the pain and didn't need to go to the Pokémon Center for further treatment. He was panting badly and seemed to have a twinge of color to his cheeks but that may be from a developing fever from the rain and wind he was in before Mew was able to get the bubble over him. "Mew, take him inside to the home. Inside by the living room is a guest room and a bed that should be big enough for him to be comfortable." She watched as Mew nodded before slowly and carefully using psychic to lift and move Mewtwo gently. Delia turned and looked at the other Pokémon that was in her backyard as it made a gentle sound and sighed. "You might have to stay out here for a little bit." The Pokémon looked a bit surprised at Delia's reaction. "Don't worry," she smiled. "I'm used to much weirder things happening around my son and his friends than the legendary Moltres appearing. I'll bring you some food and refreshment while you wait."
She went inside quickly grabbing some food for the Moltres, taking it to the large Pokémon, going back inside, and then informing Ash that everything was alright and to stay seated on the couch while she went to check on Mewtwo. Ash grumbled but did as asked as his mom disappeared into the guest bedroom. Delia had noticed Mew had put Mewtwo under the covers and was currently trying to wring out a wet washcloth. She smiled at the way Mew was caring for Mewtwo and as it finally was satisfied with the washcloth, it floated over to Mewtwo and put it on his forehead before drifting backwards a little. "I'll talk to the Moltres in the back for you Mrs. Ketchum." Mew said aloud. "He felt the power from Mewtwo and apparently was called here. I'll try to explain things but I won't reveal Mewtwo's secrets if he isn't awake for him to approve of the Pokémon being told."
"Alright Mew." Delia said. "I'll tend to Mewtwo while you talk. I know I'll inform Ash and Pikachu of what's going on as well but knowing Ash, he'll try to figure out some way to help Mewtwo even when he isn't allowed to do much."
Mew nodded it's thanks before floating to the backyard where she saw the Moltres enjoying some fruits. "So," Mew started as she sat down by the collection of food items before grabbing some grapes and starting to munch away to curb her own hunger. "What called you here again?"
"I told you," Fawkes started. "I felt a great power explode and the source of it called me here. I am guessing that the Pokémon on the ground was the direct source of the storm?" He asked though he knew the answer.
"Yes." Mew said. "He has these attacks before but this was worst than the last one. I only witnessed it once so I am unsure if he had them before I met him."
"Which Pokémon is he? I have not heard of any like him before?"
Mew looked up at the legendary bird with slight cautiousness but did not sense any ill intentions so she decided to just stick with the basic facts until Mewtwo awoke completely. "I won't tell you everything because it isn't my story to tell."
"Understood."
"His name is Mewtwo. I came across him during a private tournament being held. He wanted to come with our new trainer Ash after his last owner took advantage of him and I decided to join afterwards. It's a learning experience for everyone in this family but as we learned, some things that get too confusing for Mewtwo and something happens to him."
Fawkes nodded. "I think I know what is going on but I cannot verify until my companion comes along. I don't want to bring him here if your friend is unwell though."
"I doubt Mewtwo would care either way if you brought your companion." Mew stated as she finished the last grape from the vine she held. "He can easily just wipe the memories away if the person shows untrustworthy." She glared at Fawkes. "I doubt your companion would have ill intentions but legendaries have trusted the wrong human in the past so guards will be up. Arceus was one of the legendaries to make that mistake before he fell into slumber."
Fawkes looked at Mew and saw the determination in her eyes at protecting her friend. "I understand. So this Mewtwo is powerful?"
"He is. I have even fought him and we were almost evenly matched in every way. It was refreshing to battle again but I would still look more towards playing and making friends than battling."
"So why join a trainer if you do not want to battle?" Fawkes asked. "It seems counterproductive to travel with a trainer if you do not wish to battle."
"Traveling with Ash has been better than anything I have experienced in my own personal travels. Mewtwo and I are mainly with him for the travel scenery and friends we will meet along the way. We are usually under a disguise to make others less suspicious of our presence with Ash because we don't want certain people to gain interest in us and ruin our travels so when your companion does come we will be under those disguises."
"May I inquire as to which Pokémon you would be under disguise as?"
Mew gained a gleam in her eye. "I'm sure you will figure it out next time you come by Moltres." She giggled in mischievousness. "Now, why don't you go get your companion. We will still be here for quite a while due to Ash being injured so we won't miss your arrival."
Fawkes sighed. "Very well. I will arrive again within the next week with my companion. I will warn you that he is very eccentric so his way of doing things might be a bit weird for everyone." He said.
Mew nodded. "Farewell Moltres."
Fawkes opened his wings and took off, sneaking some of the food with him as he left. Mew watched until he was gone before turning and going into the home. She knew this meeting was a short one but got the feeling the next one wouldn't be as easy.
…
Albus was on guard when Blaine led him to a room that held a couple of chairs, bookshelves, and tables before pressing a button that seemed to seal them inside by metal sheets that lowered on all the walls. "Albus," Blaine started as he sat in one of the chairs indicating for Albus to do the same. Once he did so, Blaise clasped his hands onto his legs and deeply sighed. "I know of this boy. When he appeared in front of a leader of a organization called Team Rocket, he was taken to a laboratory with a friend who took charge of his being. I was brought in to consult on a project they were undertaking where the leader of the organization wanted to have us create the strongest Pokémon in the world. I thought with a genetic fossilized match of the known strongest Pokémon that it would complete the experiment at long last."
"I take it that you were incorrect about your assessment?" Albus asked.
"You would be correct. Even with the perfect fossil, our project could not stabilize enough to make it through the final stages." He paused before continuing with his head bowed. "The child was brought to the lab after I confirmed that his blood actually helped the final stage to create a Pokémon. The power he had somehow made the process almost seem easy and straightforward unlike before. I left shortly after the confirmation but my friend sent me updates through letters that made me feel guilty and almost wishing that I had never confirmed what I did."
"What do you mean?" Albus pressed gently.
"My friend, Fuji, was actually a volunteer to take care of abandoned and orphaned Pokémon before coming to Cinnabar to start a lab where we actually worked on researching Pokémon together. He was one of the first friends I had in the scientific field of study before he was taken by Team Rocket for a short time. After that experience he had changed but I am unsure of why, though I am sure the death of his daughter did not help matters especially when his research was dismissed by the scientific board. He had then disappeared with only letters coming to me on a weekly basis after I found out that he was the one in charge of our grand project." He stood and walked over to a bookshelf before pulling a book, revealing a small hidden compartment with a small box in it. Blaine pulled out the box before shutting the hidden compartment and going back over to Albus.
"Is that holding the letters?" Albus asked ignoring his own feelings as he could see Blaine was suffering a lot more than he was.
"Unfortunately not." He answered sitting back down and opening the box. "I destroyed each letter as to keep the work he was in safe from anyone who pried into the past." He took an album from the box. "This however, has some hand drawn photos from him that I did keep that showed the progress of the experiment. Would you like to see them or hear the story before looking?"
Albus looked at the album before saying, "I will hear the story first and look at the album later. I feel like the drawings would upset me greater than the person explaining."
Blaine nodded before starting the tale. "When the young boy arrived at the lab he was immediately placed inside an incubation tube. These tubes are for testing, growing, or preserving a subject of a project so they were put to effective use for the project. Fuji started Project Clone when his daughter died because he couldn't let her go. According to his letters he had tried for years to work out the formula to bring her back before Team Rocket came into the picture. They allowed him to work on the clone of his daughter along with the three starters of Kanto and a new Pokémon but unfortunately each clone had failed, causing more pain and heartbreak for Fuji each time his daughter passed away. One day though, the Team Rocket leader brought a child in claiming that he had just appeared in a middle of an important meeting out of thin air and demanded Fuji to use him to further the experiment of creating the strongest Pokémon in the world. Fuji agreed in hope that he could finally resurrect his daughter but unfortunately the leader had enough of the experiment Fuji was putting all his hopes on and demanded that he would only make the one Pokémon and that any other would be destroyed by him personally as he would oversee the project to make sure Fuji would concentrate on the leaders Pokémon."
"I do not understand why the leader would immediately target Harry even if he appeared out of thin air." Albus stated. "Wasn't he worried that he would have family that would be looking for him?"
"No. The leader is very confident and judging by the looks of the boy when he arrived, he knew that wherever the boy came from that no one would bother looking." Blaine said ignoring the fact that Albus said the boy's name. "I myself never saw the child but Fuji described him in great detail along with drawing him when he first arrived. He was shocked and saddened when the boy woke up and was terrified of where he was but Fuji could not let this stop him for the Team Rocket leader would know if he tried to let the boy escape so he talked to him. The boy didn't even know his own name apparently and referred to himself as a freak to Fuji as they talked so Fuji gave him a new name to be called as he was going to be made into something new and magnificent. The boy spoke of places and things that Fuji did not know of that made him theorize that the boy wasn't born of this world but the things he opened up to Fuji about the ones he called his relatives was a lot more distressing to Fuji then the part about being from a different world."
"What did this Fuji character rename Harry?" Questioned Dumbledore even though he knew the answer.
"Fuji named him Mewtwo before he started the process of putting him into a stasis like sleep. As the first year passed, Mewtwo soon started to forget his past and in some way Fuji was thankful that he forgot about the cruelty and unfairness of his past because he grew to love and care for Mewtwo as a son of his very own. Each week over the next 4 years, he spoke to Mewtwo and told him about where he was and who created him but while Mewtwo forgot each conversation after a week, Fuji never gave up on him nor resented him for forgetting as his brain along with his body were making humongous changes that, if Mewtwo were awake, would kill him. Fuji was hugely thankful that Mewtwo started to slowly remember conversations over the last years of being in the tube and he came up with a plan that would see Mewtwo learn how to take advantage of learning to use his powers while being free from the clutches of Team Rocket. Fuji's last letter to me was that he was going to start the plan shortly and to wish him and his son luck but a few months after that letter, I received word that the Team Rocket Leader was needing my assistance in creating another Mewtwo. I politely refused and have been away from any dealings with Team Rocket for months but a grunt named Ken has told me that another Mewtwo has been created and is in the process of awakening in the next month or so."
Albus grew alarmed at this on top of the news of what had happened to Harry. "Do you know if he used another child?"
Blaine looked into Dumbledore's eyes and said, "I have no doubt in my mind that he has."
….
Mewtwo groaned as he awoke slowly and painfully opened his eyes. His whole being felt as if it was on fire and each movement he tried seemed to send even more pain rushing through his body. He never felt such physical pain before and was completely irritated and confused why this pain was happening to him along with the phenomena of unknown and uncontrolled powers. He carefully sat up, taking note that he was in a bed covered by a soft baby blue colored quilt in a pastel yellow room. He didn't feel completely well enough to stand, let alone walk so he used his psychic to gently scoot himself back against the headboard of the bed after adjusting the pillows to have his back get a bit of support as he sat upright. He didn't remember everything as the pain erupted but he did remember a female voice yelling out for help. He didn't know what to make of this revelation of something reaching out to him for help but he felt like this call for help dealt with Giovanni.
It seemed that no matter how much he tried to escape the Rocket Leader, he seemed to just creep right back up into Mewtwo's life by creating pain through others. He knew he couldn't get to everyone Giovanni has hurt but he could try his best to help who he could and this female seemed to call to him with a desperation that only he seemed to understand.
He needed to find this being and soon because no matter how he tried, the fearful, desperate, pain filled scream kept replaying over and over in his mind and he knew that unless he found her, she would suffer even more than she already has but the question was, how was he to find her and get her to safety without drawing the attention of his most hated enemy?
Mewtwo was startled out of his thoughts when a cry of relief filled the room. "Mewtwo!" Mew's saddened voice said before he felt a weight attach to his side making him wince and growl in the pain that shot through his body at her actions. "Sorry!" She yelped as he flew backwards a bit. "I was just so worried…" her voice trailed off making Mewtwo look at her only to silently sigh at the tears that were in her blue eyes. "I tried and tried to talk to you and get you out of that pain and storm but nothing I did worked. I felt helpless with you just like that."
Mewtwo hummed. "You tried and that at least counts for something Mew." He said. "I doubt anything could have helped me. I even feel the lingering affects of the attack and I hardly feel this type of pain anymore."
Mew shook her head frantically. "But you shouldn't have to be in such pain!" She wailed as tears flowed down her cheeks and her powers that were gently floating her made her drop down onto the side of the bed. "My memma shouldn't have even asked Arceus for the gift of children! You shouldn't have to suffer like this constantly and wonder why everything is like it is! You shouldn't-"
Mewtwo gently and painfully put his paw on the top of Mew's head making her instantly quiet. "Mew," he said quietly. "No matter what happened in the past, nothing can change what has been done. I do not fault your memma in the slightest for what is happening to me nor will I blame you for her actions. The only being I blame is Giovanni for creating such pain and suffering. He has used and abused his influence and created a fear that runs deep into the region if not the world and he won't stop until he succeeds." Mew's sniffles and crying settled a tiny bit. "I will say that this most recent attack made me hear something."
Mew opened her eyes as he took his paw off her head. "Hear something?" She whispered.
"I heard a female voice. She was screaming in pain and I could feel her desperation to be saved. I am unsure of where she is or if she truly is calling for me but I can't help but feel that if I do not find her, she will be lost to suffering for a long time."
Mew's eyes darkened slightly. "I can hardly believe this but it sounds like SOS but on a more painful scale." She murmured. "Only legendaries have the power to send signals strong enough to another legendary of the same kind from anywhere in the world but all Pokémon can use it in short distances to receive help from the strongest Pokémon in the area. If another Mew was in desperate trouble, it would let out a call to the next strongest of it's kind because it would know that whatever is attacking it wouldn't be able to handle another of the same kind. A legendary named Celebi has needed to do that on some occasions along with others but it's rare and even more so with you but I have never heard of the signal causing pain to the one who is to receive it."
"So you mean…?" Mewtwo started as the implications settled into his mind.
"Another Mewtwo is out there and it is calling to you to save it and this one is a female." Mew stated. "Either is is being forced to call you in hopes of you being captured again or it really is in need of desperate help that only you can provide."
Mewtwo stared at Mew as she explained the situation. "So this is going to be a lot harder than I previously thought. Do you know how long this call can go on for?"
"It all depends." Mew said. "Judging by the reaction you had I would say that she'll try it again in a few days maybe a week tops. Though as they progress, the location of where they are should become clearer."
All Mewtwo could do was groan at the future prospect of another call for help coming in the next week.
