7. Working Together (Pre-canon ~ around season8)
Donna usually just goes in his office right away and doesnt need his new secretary to ask her if she has an appointment. She's Donna, afterall. It doesnt make sense now that she stopped by his secretary before coming into his office and he cant hear what they're talking about.
She just looked at him and didnt come in and walked away. He's confused with what just happened. Is he in trouble? Is she mad at him?He thought of what just happened in the past few days that might have upset her but he cant think of anything. The last thing he wants is for her to be upset. He just thought of dealing with her later and went back to work.
She came back to his office and placed her laptop on his desk plus a few folders. She sat down and set up her laptop and started typing.
He cleared his throat. "What are you doing?"
"Working" she replied without looking at him.
"Here in my office?"
"You have a problem with it?"
"No. Its just- " he stopped with what he's about to say, scared that he might upset her. "You miss me." It wasnt a question but a statement.
"No. Uhm I- uhmm.. fine! I just miss us working together that's all." Donna confessed. She had to check with Harvey's secretary if he has a client meeting and fortunately he's free for the rest of the afternoon so she decided to get her work stuff and do it in his office.
"For the record, I miss this too" Harvey replied. They worked in silence. Sometimes they would ask each other's opinion.
People who passed by noticed, but nobody said anything. After 13 yrs, everyone's just used to them being together.
Donna had to leave for a bit to go to the restroom when his secretary came in.
"Hi I didnt want to interrupt earlier but Mr. Atkins wants to set up a meeting today, 2 hrs from now."
"Is he going to lose the company?"
"I uhm I dont think so.. he just said something about a new business venture"
"Move it to tomorrow"
"But your schedule's full tomorrow and ur free for the rest of the afternoon today" His secretary justified. He didnt say anything and just gave him the stare.
"Okay. I'll tell him today's not a good time" His secretary left. She might be new at the firm but from that moment on, she knows Donna wasnt just his boss' ex secretary. Donna's very special to his boss. He's willing to give up a client meeting for her.
Donna and Harvey worked til night just like the old times. They ordered takeout and played his dad's music. Flirty banters, latest office gossips, and some light hearted conversations happened. Nobody dared to talk about their feelings. Its what they never do.
Donna went home with a smile on her face. She surely did miss his company. Until her realization hits her. After all these years, maybe this is what all she can get from him. Maybe that's everything he could really offer to her.
But she'll take whatever he could offer even though it pains her.
End.
