26. Divorce

They tried to work it out but they couldn't avoid the inevitable. Divorce. They both got busy with work and barely saw each other. Their fights got worse. Until both of them decided divorce is what's best for them.

"Don't worry about the papers I'll give it to Louis" Harvey said while leaning forward the kitchen counter. He couldn't face her. He couldn't watch her leave.

"I signed my part" she replied. She stood behind him, bags are packed. They stayed like that for a moment. She's frozen on her spot, not wanting to move. Not wanting to leave.

Eventually she got her composure back and welcomed her new reality.

"Good bye Harvey" she left. She also left the firm and went to work with Stu as COO, because Stu knows her potential and offered her the job.

Months down the road she met up with Louis. Louis had been wanting to see her to check how's she's doing but she's been so busy with work. But the truth is, she's just trying to avoid everyone.

She finally gave in and went out for breakfast with Louis on a Saturday, 3 months after the divorce. She asks how's everyone doing at the firm. She also asked about Harvey. Louis told her the truth that he's been miserable. Just as she would expect because she's been miserable without Harvey too.

"Louis, thank you for also handling our divorce. I know it's not what you want do but thank you"

"Of course Donna. Just give me the papers and I'll handle it"

"Harvey didn't give you?! You've got to be kidding me!" Donna was mad. All this time she thought it was filed and that they're actually divorced. She left Louis and hurriedly went straight to Harvey's condo.

Donna still got Harvey's keys to his condo. She barged in and went straight to his bedroom.

"Get up!" Donna ordered Harvey who's still sleeping peacefully when she got in.

"Donna! What are you doing here?" He was startled to see Donna and sat up.

"Surprised to see your wife?!" She emphasized wife.

She knows, he thought. She asked why the divorce papers weren't filed so he made up a reason that he got busy with work that's why he wasn't able to give the divorce papers to Louis.

"Busy? That's what you're going with?!" She asked furiously.

He had enough of it. So he stood up and faced her.

"You want the truth?! The truth is I don't want to divorce you! Because it doesn't seem right to divorce you Donna!" He loved her too deeply to just end their marriage just because they're fighting too much. Fighting is just part of marriage.

She didn't expect his revelation.

"I still love you. And it doesn't feel right to end what we have" He said in a soft tone that's reserved for her.

She felt the same, because there's not a day or night that she didn't think about him. Every little things reminded her of him. The coffee in the morning, his clothes that he left in her apartment, his cooking, his smile and his warmth.

"I miss you" she whispered.

"Oh you don't know how much I miss you too" he said and wrapped his arms around her tightly, right where she belongs. Right where she always belong.

"We'll try again" Donna suggested.

"No Donna. We'll make this marriage work" He kissed her hungrily and they make up for the time they lost again.

End.
