28. Apology (The Art of Letting Go)

Donna apologized to Paula for the kiss so she could keep her job but it didn't work.

She was already at the door, leaving, when she realizes something. After 13 years, she and Harvey wouldn't work together anymore. They might not even see each other anymore. Who knows?

So she turned around to face Paula again.

"Before I go, I know I shouldn't and don't have to ask you this but I just want to say it. Please take care of him, Paula. Don't break his heart. He's already been through a lot."

She heads out to the door not waiting for Paula's reply. She wanted to say more such as Harvey's likes and dislikes. How Harvey likes his coffee. How he likes his ties fixed. His favorite watch. How he hates olives on his pizza. And many more.

Because unfortunately, she's the only person who knows him very well. But she shut her mouth because unfortunately, she's also the last person Paula would want to hear that from.

So she leaves Paula's office, Harvey, and the firm.

She left her resignation letter on Harvey's desk.

Only to find him knocking at her door, the night she files her resignation.

Because her leaving means her breaking Harvey's heart.

And how ironic that she asked Paula not to break Harvey's heart when she's the only one who holds that power.

'Will you come back?' (Yes)

'Then I'm okay'

Just as how only Harvey holds the power over hers. Because as the weeks pass, she doesn't know what hurts more. If it's during the time Harvey was with Paula, or now that they're both available, they don't end up being together.

End.
