Ben snapped out of his daze when he heard your shriek, a chill going down his spine at the sound. When you flew into the air, he was scrambling to get out of the water. "(Y/n)!" Ben yelled, trying to follow you as you flew off. It seemed like you couldn't hear him. He ran as fast as he could after you, "(Y/n)! (Y/n)! Wait!" Ben yelled once again, losing you in the treetops. He stopped and looked around, trying to find you. He cupped his hands around his mouth, "(Y/N) PLEASE COME OUT!" He shouted, turning around against and looking for you in the close clusters of tree branches. Instead of you, he heard a raven crow. He turned towards the sound and was surprised when the raven flew at him and transformed into a man. "Why are you looking for (Y/n)?" The raven asked, looking quite angry. Ben stepped back, "She flew off and she sounded scared. I want to help her." "Flew off?" The raven's eyes widened before he glared at the prince, "And what will you do?" "I-I'll talk to her." Ben stuttered out as the raven stepped closer. "Will you spread her secret across the castle? Across your kingdom? Will you hurt her?" The raven questioned him, making anger burn in Ben's chest. "NO! I WOULDN'T DO THAT TO HER!" He yelled back in anger. The raven inspected him for a moment before nodding, "Fine. I'll bring you to her." The raven said, turning back into a bird and flying off. Ben ran after him until the raven flew up and landed on a branch, cawing.
You heard a familiar caw and opened your wings slightly, peaking through them. "...Diaval?" You whispered, shaking. Diaval cawed once again and pointed his beak down to Ben who was at the base of the tree. You looked down and gasped, standing up and pressing yourself against the trunk of the tree, shielding yourself with your wings. You looked down at Ben, fear still in your eyes. However, it softened when you saw awe wash over his face. The sunlight coming through the trees made you simply radiant in Ben's eyes. "(Y/n)! Please come down so we can talk! I'm not going to hurt you! I promise!" Ben shouted up to you. You chewed on your lip, hesitant to come near him when Diaval cawed. You looked at him and he nodded. Wondering what Ben did to get your uncle's approval, you slowly decided down to the ground, hiding behind the trunk and peering at Ben. Ben noticed you were trying to hide and almost chuckled at how cute you were since your wings were large enough not to be hidden at all.
There was a silence as you watched him from a distance and Ben looked for words. "Well...?" You prompted him. "I, uh, I'll admit I am surprised..." Ben rubbed the back of his neck as he gazed over your wings and horns before settling on your face. "I guess I never realized that since your mother was a Fae, you would be too." He admitted. You flinched back and hide further, "And now what are you going to do? Tell the kingdom? Kill me?" "K-Kill you!? Why would I do that?" Ben sputtered, taking a step forward and reaching out to you only to stop and pull back when he saw the way you moved back. "Humans don't like faeries... They burn us and poach us..." You told him, "Do you not remember the war between humans and faeries?" "War...? There was no war in Auradon." Ben sounded confused. You were hesitant to tell him, but you continued, "There was a war before your parents locked my mother away. Between a kingdom that is not in Auradon. It bordered the Moors or the enchanted forest as you people call it here..." You told him, moving slightly out.
"The kingdom killed many faeries, including my mother. Luckily, her magic saved her." You told him, watching his expressions carefully. He looked horrified and even sick at the mention of killing. "Did you really not know...?" You whispered in confusion. The tale of your mother cursing Aurora reached all the way out to Auradon, but not the war? You shook your head, "It doesn't matter. Humans still hate faeries." You said. "So, because I am human, you think I want to hurt you? That I hate you?" Ben asked, blinking in shock. You nodded, tears welling in your eyes, "Now that you know, you probably hate me. Think I look like a monster..." Your heart clenched as you said it. Ben might be under a love spell but that didn't mean that you didn't grow feelings for him even know that. And now... "(Y/n)..." You heard Ben gently call you. You looked up at him, realizing he was a lot closer than he was before. He took your face in his hands and brushed away a tear that fell down your cheek. "I don't care that you're not human. I don't care that you're a faerie either. And I don't think you look like a monster..." Ben told you, his eyes showing the truth behind his words. "I think you look beautiful." He whispered, leaning closer and resting his forehead against yours. You closed your eyes and held his wrists, "Really? You don't think I'm evil just because I'm a Fae?" You asked quietly.
"No. (Y/n), when I look into your eyes..." You opened your eyes to look at him. "I can see you aren't evil." He told you. You smiled a little, relaxing into his touch and leaning into him. Ben moved his arms to around your waist and you leaned against his chest, hugging him. Ben was surprised when your wings wrapped around him as well, an odd feeling but he smiled when he felt how warm they were. After a moment, he decided to lighten the mood. "You know..." You pulled away a bit and looked at him. "I was always wondering why you wore backless clothes." He said. You cracked a smile at him, "Oh?" "Yeah. Now it makes sense. And of course, now I am super jealous of you." Ben nodded, very matter of fact. You looked at him amused, "Why's that?" You asked. "Because you can fly, and I can't." He told you. "I've always dreamt of flying." He admitted. He was surprised and a little curious as your face turned to an expression, he couldn't put his finger on. You watched him carefully for a moment before pulling away from him fully and flapping your wings strongly at him. Ben held up his arms to protect his face from the wind before it stopped and he looked around him, seeing something swirling and amber. He looked at you confused before realizing it was coming from your hands. He opened his mouth to ask you what you were doing when you suddenly picked him up princess style.
"Wait- What are you-!" He didn't manage to finish his question as you launched into the sky with him in your arms. Diaval watched from his tree branch, laughing to himself. Ben slowly opened his eyes which had shut from the wind force on takeoff before looking around in awe. "It's... It's beautiful up here." He breathed in amazement. "Wait, how are you carrying me?" Ben asked, looking back at you. "Well, after I dried you off, I cast a weightless spell on you. I'll take it off when we land, wouldn't want you to be knocked over the next time you play tourney." You teased him with a lighthearted grin. Ben laughed a bit, "Why thank you... Hey, could you-" "Go faster?" You asked, amusement dancing in your eyes. He nodded and you grinned, "Of course." And with one strong beat of your wings, you were flying much faster. Ben hollered and whooped in excitement, throwing one of his arms into the air as the other was wrapped behind your neck, holding on. Ben was enjoying every minute of this. he was flying, with help, but still. He could feel the wind on his face, it felt different than when he was riding his bike. The freedom and beauty of the moment overtook him, and he roared out gleefully.
Hearing you laugh, he turned his head back to look at you and was struck by the expression on your face. You were smiling so warmly at him. So gently. If he wanted to take a leap, he would even call it lovingly... His face flushed as his heart raced, the pull he felt the first time he saw you growing immensely. After some time flying and showing off to Ben, you landed and allowed him to touch your wings. You internally begged your face not to redden as he gently glided his fingers over them. Then he remembered something, "Oh right, who was that raven man back there?" Ben asked curiously. "Oh, that was my uncle Diaval. He is my mother's familiar of sorts. He helped her raise me and Mal." You said fondly, remembering the past. Ben pushed aside the fact that Diaval was somehow off the island because he is a bird and continued, "What about your dad?" He asked. "What about him?" You looked at him curiously. "Well, you said Diaval helped your mother raise you and Mal, what happened to your father?" Ben questioned.
You smiled sadly for a moment, "The Isle isn't a good place for relationships to stay together. Mother and Father were both in love and I think they still are, it's just... Being trapped and having all your magic and freedom taken away from you... Feeling helpless and cornered... It doesn't help a relationship. So, they decided to separate ways so they wouldn't end up hating each other..." You said quietly, ending the conversation there. You assisted him in picking up the picnic and flew beside him for most of the way back to Auradon as he drove his moped. When you were nearing parts where you would be seen by others, you both stopped, and you cast a spell on your wings and horns once again. You spelled the helmet to appear like it was on your head as you did before and rode with Ben back to the school. He walked you to your dorms, "So, I guess this means you can't steal my clothes, huh?" Ben mentioned casually as you walked hand in hand. Your eyes widened at the thought and you blushed, looking at him. "W-Well who said that? A few magic modifications by me, Mal, or Evie can fix that quickly." You stuttered out, trying to appear like it didn't bother you.
Ben looked over at you with a crooked grin, "Oh? That's good because I wanted to give you something..." He said, stopping at your dorm room with you. "Oh, you don't have to." You protested lightly, but Ben wouldn't have any of it. He slipped off his jacket and handed it to you, "Here." "...You're giving me your letterman's jacket...?" You breathed, staring down at it wide-eyed. "Well yeah, you're my girlfriend, right?" He asked, that smile still on his smug face. "W-Well yeah, but I would have to cut a hole in the back to wear it!" You told him, looking up at him and making sure he knew this. His expression didn't change, "Yeah I know. But you're the one who is going to be wearing it all the time anyway." "But what if you want it back?" You asked quietly. "I won't." "But you might..." "Nope! It's yours now!" Ben said, kissing your cheek and running off, laughing as you called after him. "Ben!" After he was out of sight, you sighed and held the jacket close, walking into your dorm room. You got 3 seconds of peace and quiet before Mal and Evie practically mauled you for information on how it went. You spent the rest of the night talking with them.
