CHAPTER 4
Just as easily as the day had come to the sky, filling the day with laughs, the sun began to set back over the horizon just as easily. Kagome sat in the bed in her room with Shippo sitting beside her playing with a couple toys she bought him from her time. They were a little bit old and worn down, one of the very first toys she ever bought him but if was one of his favorites. In between her legs was a happy rin who swung her legs while humming a song to herself while kagome brushed the young girl's hair out.
"Alright Rin, you're all done sweetheart. Go into the bathroom and get dressed for dinner"
She hopped off the bed, and grabbed her kimono "yes miss kagome"
Oh, kagome turned quickly "rin, be sure to wash your hands before dinner"
Kagome patted the spot where rin had previously sat "your turn shippo"
He smiled "ok momma"
He placed his toys down gently and hopped up in his mothers lap. It didn't take nearly as long to brush out the kitsune's hair since she brushed his everyday sometimes more than once a day. Kagome began to hum a lullaby she learned from her mother, she sang to shippo when she was laying him down for bed, if he was sick or hurt and sometimes when one of them was having a bad day she'd let shippo curl up in her lap and just sing until they felt better. He loved his mother and father, and didn't want to seem like he was replacing them but he loved Kagome too. She was the closest thing he has now to a mother, she was the only one who took him in and didn't think twice about it.
After she finished his hair she patted his back
"go get dressed sweetie"
He nodded and went into his room to grab one of his montsuki.
After Kagome and the children were all three dressed they walked to the dining hall, they were one of the last ones to be seated for dinner. Jaken stood and looked at kagome and the children
"You're late!" he screeched
Kagome nodded "i'm sorry we're late, i had difficulty brushing rin's hair"
He shook his head "incompentent child if you cannot manage a simple task such as preparing yourself and the children for dinner and being here on time then what makes you think you have the right to not only dine with lord sesshomaru but be in his presence"
Kagome just rolled her eyes "children go take your seats please"
She smiled brightly at the children and watched them as they took their seats, she took her own. They all had done their ritual of waiting for the lord of the house to start before they started on their own plates, the quiet dinner was interrupted when Rin spoke up.
"Kagome, what was the song I heard you singing earlier? It was really pretty, i don't think i've heard it before"
Kagome smiled "it's a song I learned from my mother, she sang it to me when i was a child and now it's one i sing to shippo. Rin would like me to sing it to you too?"
The young girls face lit up "yes please" she squealed with happiness
It didn't last long before jaken had turned around to scold the girl for her inappropriate behavior at the dinner table, he took his staff of two heads and began to whack the girl on top of the head. Kagome stood quickly, the clatter of her chopsticks hitting her plate and her cup being knocked along with her chair being thrown backwards, she bent across the table her hand red from the impact, she made eye contact with the toad. The table was now quiet as it was before. Sango had quickly gotten up and gathered the children away from the feuding pair, lord sesshomaru just sat there watching the events unfold. Kagome jerked up the toad by the collar of the outfit and threw the staff across the room not once did she break eye contact.
"I know you were not just thinking about hitting her for no reason"
"Your right i wasn't thinking about hitting her for no reason, i was going to punish her for her rude behavior"
Her eyes slit at his cocky response, she pulled her fist back. Thoughts of plumbing the pathetic toad into a pulp raced through her mind several times, she let out an aggressive breath a few times before throwing him to the floor.
"As bad as the urge to pumble you is, I refuse to step to your level. But don't take that as i won't beat the life out of you if you ever raise a hand to one of my children ever again"
She looked towards the children and guestered for them "children, grab your plates we're going to eat our dinners in the garden this evening, afterwards we'll get you both bathed and put to bed"
They nodded and did as Kagome instructed, shortly after they left Sango began to laugh under her breath. Both sesshomaru and jaken looked at the woman.
"What's so funny, woman? '' Jaken had asked.
Sango covered her mouth
"forgive me, i didn't mean to laugh so loudly. Your lucky"
"Excuse me?!" jaken was shocked by what came out of the woman's mouth
"Kagome is sweet, she's a wonderful person but if you manage to upset her or threaten her family she even frightens me, and i slay massive, powerful demons for a living"
Jaken stared at Sango before he could say anything; the sound of Sesshomaru's chair drew his attention. "My lord, where are you going?"
Sesshomaru didn't answer the groveling toad; he didn't even look back to acknowledge that he had said something. He walked to the back Corredor that overlooked the gardens, his eyes searching for the miko who had left with her kitsune and his child. The words she said played over and over in his head, without second thought she had claimed rin as her's, she had become almost feral in protecting rin. If he wasn't sure yet he was sure now, this is the woman he wants to bear his pups. This will be the woman who will love and educate them but will also put herself on the line for them despite who's around. One thing still held him back, how Rin would react to having Kagome as a mother but not only this, but how she would feel about siblings.
Kagome and the children sat on a blanket that she placed on a tiny hill that overlooked the beautiful garden filled with a mixture of marigolds, dandelions, lavender and rosemary the variety of colors from the flowers planted in the ground complimented the white and bright pink flowers coming from the Weeping Sakura trees. Both children sat on either side of kagome enjoying their dinners, the sound of laughter could be heard from the three.
"Momma" shippo looked up to his mother
"Yes my love?"
"How long are we staying here?"
This worried kagome "I'm not sure, why? Did something happen?"
Shippo shook his head "no momma, I'm fine. It's just" shippo looked to Rin then his eyes locked on his lap"
Kagome noticed, she took a delicate finger and pushed up Shippo's chin. She looked at him and a soft smile graced her lips. "What's the matter shippo? You know you can come to me about anything"
"I like playing with Rin, I like having someone my age to play with. I don't want to leave"
Kagome looked at shippo i'm not sure what we're doing yet sweetie, don't stress about it. Just enjoy playing and being a child, ok?"
He nodded and went back to his food, they finished their food in silence with the sounds of the cicada making their music in the background. Both children stood and helped kagome clean up. On their way inside a couple of maids blocked Kagome's path, they walked towards her.
"My lady, his lordship has asked to see you. We will take over the childrens baths"
Kagome nodded, she stooped down to the children's level; she looked them both in the eyes. "You guys follow them and take your baths without a fuss, I'll be in later to tuck you both into bed alright?" she smiled to the children who both then nodded understanding her request.
She hugged the children tightly then sent them off with the maids. She watched them walk off waiting until they were out of sight before she went to find the lord who had summoned her.
she walked the halls towards his study, she knocked on the door.
"Come in" his voice boomed in it's normal icy tone, the door creaked as she opened it.
"You asked for me lord sessomharu?" he nodded in response. She closed the door behind her
He stood and leaned on the front of his desk
. "I wanted to talk to you about what happened at dinner."
Her face turned red she interrupted him
"i'm not going to apologize for reminding that toad what his place is, it's definitely not laying hands on my children"
There it was again, without second thought she not only defended his child but claimed Rin as her own. He noticed she was still talking, he reached out one hand grabbing her wrist the other cupping her cheek he bent down and planted his lips on hers. She stood for a minute not returning the kiss, the shock the kiss caused her system ran through her body like an electric current. Her skin had gotten tiny goosebumps and her hair felt like it was standing on end, she closed her eyes, allowed her body to fall into his and kissed him back. The kiss seemed to last forever and felt like fireworks going off in her mouth…

She quickly dressed, all of the pent up sexual frustration and excitement gone. She looked over her shoulder one last time before leaving the room, closing the door behind her.
