Chapter 9

Nights turned unto days, days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months. It was now six months after the fight with naraku and sesshomaru had been training kagome, since the visiting lords had left he had spent every available minute with her, other than her he had also spent a lot of time locked in his office doing the paperwork that required his attention. The sun began to rise over the hills and spilled into sesshomaru's room, and Kagome began to wake. Her eyes fluttered open, she had gotten used to sleeping with sesshomaru wrapped around her. She rolled over in his arms, her hand cupped his cheek softly she brushed his cheek with her thumb..

"Wake up my love, if you still intend to leave with me and the kids then we need to leave soon"

Slowly his eyes began to open as he heard the soft voice of his intended, they had agreed to go to her time today with the children so that by the time they would return by the new moon when they would return they could mate, the other lords had already approved of their mating.

Reluctantly he woke up, after he washed up in his personal hot springs and instructed his servants to prepare ah uh for the journey he, Kagome and the pups had left the castle for kagome's time. They traveled over half the day before making it to the clearing that held the wall. Kagome had given each pup and Sesshomaru a piece of the jewel before they left the palace.

"Does everyone have their shard?"

Kagome looked at her mate and pups, all three nodded. She took Shippo into her arms as Sesshomaru had grabbed Rin in one of his arms before wrapping the other around Kagome's wrist. They all had jumped into the well, Kagome hoped against hope that they all would be allowed to travel.

They all jumped in and were surrounded by a blinding blue light, the children looked around and saw all the sparkle created by the light.

"Wow momma! This is so beautiful!"

Shippo yelled with excitement bursting out of his voice. Kagome looked down at the young boy who looked around excitedly. When the light began to fade the group was left falling softly to the ground, as the light went away and their surroundings came into focus they were surrounded by four thick wooden walls.

"Sesshomaru, when we leave the well house, the smells of this era are very strong so be careful..you too shippo, my era is very polluted"

They both nodded before Sesshomaru had tightened his grip on his new family and jumped out of the well. They opened the doors and true to what Kagome said both shippo and Sesshomaru fought the urge to vomit in their mouths at the putrid smell Kagome's era held.

They walked out and followed Kagome to her house, Kagome put shippo down and walked right in and looked into the kitchen for her mother. Just like always, Kiko was standing in the kitchen putting together a pot of stew.

"Momma, I'm home!"

Kiko turned around quickly, hearing her daughter's voice. She put down the vegetables she had in hand and ran to her daughter, hugging her fiercely.

"Kagome, I've missed you..what are you doing home"

Kagome rolled her eyes as she hugged her mother back.

"Gee, thanks mom. I've missed you too."

Kiki laughed softly, she started to answer her daughter's sarcastic answer before her eyes caught movement in the living room . She let go of her daughter and walked in seeing the three that stood in her home.

"Oh my..hello, who are you?"

Kagome shortly after followed her mother, she silently cursed Sesshomaru for talking her into this.

"Mom. This is shippo, the fox kitsune I was talking about. This is Rin and this is Lord Sesshomaru. Rin is Sesshomaru's daughter like shippo is my son, and well Sesshom…"

He cut her off as he approached kiki.

"Ma'am if I may I'd like to speak to Kagome's father."

Taken aback she let a sad sigh go, a single tear streamed her face..

"Kagome's father passed away when she was eight…"

Sesshomaru bowed out of respect and sympathy to the woman before him.

"I'm sorry, what about the head of the house"

Again kiko sighed.

"Kagome, darling sit down please..children why don't you go play outside..I need to talk to your mother for a minute"

Her sudden statement surprised everyone, but Kagome ushered the children out and sat as her mother told her to do. Sesshomaru had sat beside her, he could feel the sad energy rolling off the woman and knew what she had to say was not going to be good. Her mother sat on the other side beside her daughter.

"Kagome, honey. There is something about grandpa I need to tell you."

Now that she mentioned it, where was he? He hadn't come running at the aura of demons in his house like normal.

*-he probably got into the alcohol again and got into trouble with law enforcement-*

She mentally had slapped her face at the thought of grandpa having one too many celebrating something, when it came to alcohol he never was able to control himself.

"Honey..grandpa passed away last month..he had a stroke while we were at sota's soccer game and by the time an ambulance had arrived it was too late and there was too much brain damage..we tried to wait for you so you could say your final goodbyes but we didn't know when you were coming home, I'm so sorry darling"

Kagome's eyes widened as tears began to flood her face and lap, she didn't make a sound or move an inch as her world froze before her, her brain having trouble processing everything her mother had just said. She felt Sesshomaru's arms embrace her, and her mother hug her as well..but she still didn't speak, or move, or breath.

"Kagome, honey. I know it hurts..it's ok to cry"

Her mother tried her best to get Kagome to let it out, but she wasn't responding and this worried her. Sesshomaru purred softly to sooth his mates grief, he leaned down to her ear.

"Koi?"

He nuzzled her cheek and licked her neck. She heard her mothers words but couldn't interpret what they meant, she then heard Sesshomaru and felt him pull her back into reality. She buried her face into his chest seeking comfort, hoping she would wake up from this nightmare. She let go of loud sobs as she felt the last of her heart that had been slowly cracking finally break. She cried loudly for hours as Sesshomaru held her attempting to calm her and her mother behind her also crying softly and rubbing her hurting daughters back.

The children were outside when they heard their mother begin to sob loudly, they both went into the house to check on their mother..seeing her crying and surrounded by the adults they both decided to investigate further.

"Mother?"

Shippo was the first to speak, hearing the worry in her son's voice as Kagome sat up. Deciding it best not to question further after seeing the pain on his mothers face both Shippo and Rin climbed into Kagome's lap and hugged tightly.

They stayed like this for a while until Kagome's mother decided to change the subject for her daughter's sake.

"Sesshomaru, was it? What was it you needed to discuss?"

Sesshomaru understood what she was trying to do, and he agreed this change of conversation was good for the woman he held so dear.

"I would like to ask for approval for the right to mate your daughter, and I am prepared to give you anything in exchange."

Her mother looked at him confused, seeing the confusion on her mothers features she laughed silently..she wiped the tears from her face and sniffled to clear her nose and throat.

"He's asking permission to marry me, mom. But since he is a demon their rituals on it are different from ours…they don't do weddings, they mate like the animals here do."

"Oh"

Kiki cleared her throat, she had to admit that explanation made her a little uncomfortable but she understood. It disappointed her a bit she wouldn't be able to plan her daughters wedding like she always dreamed of but after seeing the interaction between the two after she broke the news she saw how happy she made him, and him to her and that's all she wanted for her baby girl. She just wanted her to be happy, safe and loved.

"Sesshomaru. Will you provide for my daughter? Will you love her until the day you die?"

Sesshomaru didn't need to think these things over, he and his beast both came to this conclusion a long time ago.

"Yes, I am a lord to the western lands. She will never have a want for anything. And I love your daughter with my whole heart. I'll admit when I had first gotten her my intentions were not honorable nor were they right. But she has somehow managed to penetrate the walls around my heart and has shown me what it is like to love and be loved. I will love her for the rest of eternity"

Kagome smiled at his proclamation, she knew of his plans she didn't need to ask. It was her first thought, but the more they had spent time together and the more she was able to get him to open up to her she had managed to sway his mind about discarding her. She looked over and saw her mother shake her head.

"No. I do not mean material things, material things mean nothing..will you provide her with her deepest desires, her needs and return the love she will give you. I know my daughter l know she will love you with the entire fiber of herself. I need to know that you will love her just as much and will care for her"

Sesshomaru nodded.

"For her i would gladly would give my lands and rule if it secured her spot beside me, her heart as mine, if it would mean i would get to wake him to her sleeping comfortably in my arms, i get to hear her laugh, i get to see her amazing laugh, and have her as the mother of my pups. I cannot promise to love her as she loves me because I already love her so much more."

Sesshomaru wrapped his arms around her tightly as she hugged him. Seeing the interaction between her daughter and sesshomaru she smiled softly.

"Then sesshomaru, you may marry my daughter. I am so proud of the husband….i mean mate….my daughter has chosen for herself. And i look forward to house full of grandchildren you both will have for me"

This earned a quickly red faced, embarrassed and flustered kagome.

"Mooommmm"

Sesshomaru had chuckled to himself softly, his mate was always so easy to get riled up, and her mother seemed to enjoy how easily she was able to do this to her daughter.

"Mom"

Kagome looked down, her hands tightly wrapped around her kids.

"Can we go see grandpa?"

Kagome's mother smiled sadly. She stood from the couch beside Kagome.

"Of course dear, let me look, we should have some appropriate clothes in your and Sota's old clothes..I'll look in your dad's and see if I still have any of his."

Kagome nodded as she put the kids down and also stood. She bent down and kissed each child on the forehead.

"Stay here, I'll be back."

She walked upstairs with her mother and went into her room to find some of her black dress clothes. As she was pulling up the last of her outfit her mother knocked and came into the room.

"Here you go dear, and surprisingly your dad did have something I think will fit Sesshomaru."

She laid the clothes on the bed and started to leave the room to get dressed herself.

"Thanks mom"

Her mother smiled at her and left. Kagome gathered the clothes and went down to her family. She handed each child their pair of clothing and handed Sesshomaru his.

"Rin there is a bathroom across from the kitchen, shippo, there's a bathroom upstairs and koi you can use my room"

She showed Rin where the bathroom was, then took the boys upstairs to get dressed. She showed Shippo the upstairs bathroom and closed the door. She turned around and grabbed Sesshomaru's hand, taking him to her room. He looked around the room that had been once decorated by a teenage kagome, he took a deep breath her scent filled his lungs and nose. He turned to see kagome start to leave the room. He quickly pulled her into himself and closed the door.

"Koi"

She giggled softly, her hands resting on his chest.

"What are you doing?"

She looked into his eyes and saw the lust in them begging for her to allow him to taste her sweet juices once more.

"No, not right now"

She looked down fearful of how her rejection was going to harm him and the repercussions from it. He took a clawed hand and lifted her face to meet his, love replaced the lust

"Of course"

He smiled at her as he spoke, he kissed the top of her forehead and nuzzled her neck. She smiled softly before speaking into his neck.

"Get dressed koi, i'll be downstairs with the children"
