Chapter 10
He nodded as he watched her leave the room, closing the door quietly behind her.
The group followed Kagome's mother to the final resting place of her family. The kids remained quiet as they joined their father in taking in the surroundings, one by one they all noticed the gravestones that lined the land in a single row.
Sesshomaru's eyes looked to his beloved as he watched her shaking form, she has been quiet the entire trip and now he knows why. She was trying not to cry loudly, just like always she was trying to put on a brave face so the others would not see her weak. He laid a hand on her shoulder and watched as she turned to him, her eyes red and swollen. Her cheeks flushed and red, only one line on each side to show she had been crying.
Kagome and her mother lit incense for her father, grandmother and grandfather and placed each one in its prospective place. They clapped their hands and bowed their heads as they silently prayed.
-"Gramps. I'm sorry I wasn't here, I'm so sorry…I should have been."-
Her breathing hitched as she tried to take a deep breath but her chest felt tight from all of the crying.
-"please forgive me, though I would understand why you couldn't. Please give dad and grams a hug for me and tell them how much I miss them"-
Kagome raised her head to see four pairs of eyes on her. She wiped her face, as her hands left her face a pair of soft hands cupped her cheeks. Her eyes rose to see a pair of chocolate browns, her mothers eyes. They were always so warm and full of love, patience, and understanding.
"Kagome, honey. I know it's hard. You have already been through so much in your short life, you've been through the loss of three people here, I don't know how many in the feudal era. The betrayal of your closest friend. But sweetheart, I know you.. You are your father's daughter. I look at you and I see a reflection of him."
She smiled softly as she brought her daughter in for a hug.
"You wear your heart on your sleeve, you always try to not let anyone worry about you even when you're hurt whether it be emotionally or physically. But sweetie look around you have so many friends and family who love you just how you are. There is no need to try to remain strong all of the time. We are all here for you in your time of need. I know I love you dearly, your children love you, and the man standing right there loves you. Your father loved you, you were and i'd like to believe you still are the biggest joy he's ever had, you were always the apple of your father's eye. Your grandmother and grandfather loved you dearly too. Just because they have parted from this world does not mean their love for you and how proud they were of you has parted, that will always remain for as long as you're alive."
Shippo and Rin both came over and hugged their mother tightly.
Kagome began to cry yet again for a little while until she felt the pressure lift that was crushing her chest. Her mother rose from the place on the ground, the children backed up to allow kagome to rise. When a hand grabbed hers and helped her, she looked up to see green eyes full of love for her. She smiled softly.
"Thank you koi."
She stood on tiptoes and kissed sesshomaru.
The group left the burial site that held her family, kagome tugged on sesshomaru a little. He looked at her to see what she needed.
"Koi, can we stop at the mall please? I need a few feminie things before we go back.."
He nodded, kagome told her mother where they were going and waved goodbye before walking towards the mall.
They entered the huge building, she watched as the mate and children's eyes grew in astonishment. She chuckled before realizing shippo and sesshomaru were still in demon forms. She pulled them aside and whispered a quick chant asking her powers to hide the demon features.
"Momma"
Shippo looked down sadly
"Are you embarrassed of us"
Kagome smiled softly as she picked up her son and hugged him tightly.
"No baby, never. Demons don't exist in my world, I just didn't want to call a crowd that'll cause issues. Do you understand?"
Shippo nodded his head.
The family walked into the building, the children pulling their mother in different directions wanting to go into the store that caught their eye at that particular moment. Sessohmaru noticed the discomfort this caused Kagome since both children were almost her size now. Shippo stood at her hip while Rin was almost shoulder height to kagome. Sesshomaru let out a deep and disapproving growl, warning the children if they continued the punishment they would face when they get home. Both children heeded the warning and stopped tugging on their mother.
Kagome had led them to a vitamin store nestled in the back of the huge building. She looked at sesshomaru and smiled
"Koi, will you take the children please? If you want to, you three can look around and i'll find you when I'm finished here."
Sesshomaru nodded
"Ok, but be careful. If you need anything i won't be too far away"
He wrapped his arms around kagomes waist and kissed her gently but full of passion.
The children smiled and ran off with their father leaving Kagome to go shopping.
Kagome sat and thought about what she may need that they didn't have in the feudal era..she picked up a few bottles of folic acid, prenatal vitamins. She looked around seeing what else she may need before her eye caught some pregnancy test sitting on the shelf marked down from the full price, she looked to the cashier.
"Excuse me sir? Why are these on sale, is there something wrong with them?"
The older gentleman looked at her
"No, it's a good brand and the tests themselves are fine. We're just trying to get rid of the stock we have left, after these are gone we won't be selling them anymore."
"Ok, thank you"
Kagome grabbed a few boxes and walked up to the cashier to pay. He gave her a weird look
"Aren't you a bit young to be buying these?"
Kagome looked up
"They aren't for me, they are for a friend of mine who was too embarrassed to come into the store to buy them. We don't know for sure if she is or not but it's better to be safe then not have the vitamins to support a healthy pregnancy and need them."
Thankfully for Kagome he let the conversation drop, she handed him the money and grabbed her bags before leaving to find her family. Along the way she stopped into the toy store and bought Shippo a few new board games and a flag tag game, looking around she couldn't find much for RIn..
*" It's been five years since I've first been to the feudal era..Rin is almost thirteen, teenage girls don't play with toys anymore..what can I get her that she'll actually like?...oh! I know!"*
Again kagome paid for the items and ran across the hall to the jewelry store across the hall, she looked around until she found what she was looking for..the salesman came up to her and smiled.
"Can I help you?"
Kagome smiled back
"Yes, i want those right there"
She point to a mother and daughter necklace, the necklace was rose gold, with diamonds around the front lining the heart design, on the back of the daughters necklace was inscripted
"You may not be flesh of my flesh, nor bone of my bone, but I still proudly call you my own. So never forget for a single minute. You didn't grow under my heart but you are in it"
The man smiled and he showed her to the register to pay, once she paid he wrapped up the necklaces and put them in a box.
She walked out into the mall to find her family and found the kids sitting at a table in the food court area happily looking around and talking about all of the new sights, she looked around some more and found sesshomaru within eye shot of the children, her eyebrows furrowed when she saw three girls talking to him flirting away.
She rolled her eyes as she made her way to the young women desperately trying to get their claws into sesshomaru.
"Koi!"
She yelled out, her hand waving as she ran to his side. She pushed her way past the girls but not without one of them grabbing her wrist.
"Hey" one girl yelled out
"We were here first. Get in line skank"
Kagome jerked her wrist away and turned around to stare the women in the face.
"Actually, you're the skank. Out here desperately flirting with a married man….."
When she faced the women her face felt numb and looked like she saw a ghost. The three women squawked out in unison.
"KAGOME?"
The women who had tried to claim her intended were none other than Ayumi, Eri, and Yuka. one hand snaked around sesshomaru's arm and the other rubbed the back of her head.
"Hi girls, long time no see huh?" kagome choked out.
The girls chatted their friends ear off, bombarding her with questions she didn't want to answer right now. Much to her relief seeing the look on his intended's face, sesshomaru tried to swoop in and save the both of them from the annoying women in front of them. He personally didn't see why kagome would befriend them let alone even acknowledge their existence. But that was kagome he had to remind himself, his kagome never knew a stranger good or bad, intelligent or lacking enough to out smart a rock, she would still befriend them all and this was one of the reasons why he fell in love with her.
"I'm sorry to interrupt ladies, but koi" he spoke in a unwavering, deep and rough voice as his eyes turned to kagome and replaced the cold and distant look with warmth and love.
"The children are waiting, if you've grabbed what you needed then you think we should get them going so they are home in time for bed?"
Kagome smiled, knowing what he was up to.
"Yes, you're right. We need to get going." she spoke softly.
Before she was able to say her goodbyes and finally part from her nosey friends they had interrupted yet again.
"KAGOME! You didn't tell us you had gotten married and had children!?"
Hearing the fuss going on, shippo nudged rin.
"Rin, come on. Mother needs our help."
She nodded before grabbing Shippo's shoulders.
"Tell mother and father I'm running a fever." she began to cry fake tears that had looked real nonetheless.
Walking Rin over, Shippo approached the adults.
"Mother, father. Rin is running a fever" he tried to muster worry and concern for his sister's fake illness.
Kagome's eyes widened "what!?"
She picked Rin up and felt her head. Now knowing what her mischievous children were up to she held rin tight.
"Koi, we need to go. We left her medication as mothers."
He nodded, seeing how calm she was and how the determined look wasn't in her eyes this time he knew she had caught on to the children's plan.
"Well, here. This will help tie her over until you can get her medicine.`` Yuka spoke.
Without a chance to see what her friend had just put in her daughter's mouth, Rin had made a horrifically familiar sound. Knowing what this sound was she pulled rin back and looked.
"SHIPPO! MY BAG QUICKLY!"
Knowing that sound he raced to kagome's bag and grabbed the epi pens.
"Yuka! Did you give my daughter an orange?!" kagome shouted as she laid the girl down
Seeing the now unconscious girl and the worry on Kagome's face as well as her other child's and husbands she too became worried. "Yes, why?"
Kagome was beyond frustrated and terrified. Shippo handed her the epi pens, she turned it to the dose she had used last time and injected it into rin. She placed her hand across Rin's pulse to feel for it.
"My daughter is deathly allergic to citrus! Especially oranges! Why the fuck would you give someone elses child something without clearing it with the parent first!? Especially a child you have never met. How stupid and self centered can you be!?"
The girls began to scream at kagome for her harsh words
"You don't have to be such a bitch kagome, it's your fault we don't know them or your husband. I mean geez if we were you we would have adopted a child if you wanted one so badly so you wouldn't curse the child with a pointless life with your bad genetics"
That was enough. sessohmaru stood in front of kagome. His voice deadly as he spoke he practically spat highly lethal venom.
"You better leave now!. I will not just stand aside as you speak to my wife this way, you wonder why she has not spoken to you up until this very moment then take a long look in the mirror because it is very obvious. My wife was gracious enough to even befriend you when she herself is way beyond your own levels of intelligence, not to mention manners, personality and looks. It's no wonder you three behaved like the common brothel worker hungry for their next prey."
He turned his back to them, picked up his daughter and walked out of there with Kagome walking behind him holding shippo.
