Chapter 7:
He waits expectantly.
She watches expectantly.
The bow lying on the table sits unstrung and harmless. Percy looks from the weapon to it's patroness. "So, would you like me to string it?"
"Impressive deduction Perseus." Artemis snarks.
"It's not a ridiculous question." He grumbles. "Besides, I don't know really how to."
Her eyes narrow. "You had archery at Camp Halfblood, did you not? Surely this level of competency was expected."
"I was terrible at archery, so I didn't keep on trying. I mean, I saw some kids doing it and caring for their bow but that's about it." Percy shrugs sheepishly. "I'll string the bow; you just need to tell me how."
Artemis snorts and turns away. "I'll send one of the hunters to help you. This is beneath me."
Percy frowns as she leaves but makes no move to stop her. He turns back to the table to see the bow already strung. Thalia taps him on the shoulder and smirks when he jumps. He is a good fighter but Percy still has a lot to learn about hunting.
"Man, you really annoyed Artemis. She said you were a hopeless imbecile who would probably shoot himself in the eye if one of us didn't go help you." Thalia doesn't smile but her cobalt blue eyes have a glint of humor.
Percy chuckles. "Harsh, but it's kinda true. I can't shoot a bow to save my life."
"Well, you strung it; that's something." Thalia nudges him in what she thinks is a friendly manner. He winces at the elbow thrown below his ribcage and the undue praise.
"It was actually Artemis when I said that I didn't know how. She walked away, and then when I turned back, it was strung." Percy confesses.
Thalia's face falls. "Is there anything that you know about archery."
"Shoot the arrow at the target."
Thalia's face goes flat.
"Pull the string back." Percy tries again.
Thalia massages her temples in a circular motion.
