"Can I help you, miss?"
Shizuru Fujino straightened up from where she'd been looking at the lower shelf. The clerk, wearing the usual Animal Hut uniform of khaki cargo shorts, T-shirt with the company logo, and bright, perky smile reminded her a little of Mai Tokiha in her earnestness.
"Maybe you can. I'm looking to buy a Christmas present for my girlfriend's dog."
"I'm sure we can help you find something. We are Asia's largest chain of pet supply retailers, you know. If we don't have something in stock, then we'll be happy to order it in from one of our other stores or warehouses, guaranteed to be here in one day and at no additional cost to you. After all, 'we have everything' is our motto!"
Shizuru smiled, amused by the girl's enthusiasm.
"In that case, I'm sure that I am in good hands."
"Now, what sort of gift are you thinking of? We have a large supply of edible treats and snacks, nutritionally balanced and good for dental health. Oh! What size is the dog? You wouldn't want to make a small dog sick by overeating, and I always think it's sad to have to take a large chew away from one when it's just as easy to buy a suitable size."
"That's very considerate. Duran is a very large dog, about this tall." She indicated his height with her hand. "I do not think that I am looking for an edible gift, however. The vet says that Natsuki spoils him too much with table snacks as it is."
"Oh, I see. Well, how about a toy, then? We have a nice selection that are more rugged, suitable for the powerful jaws of a large breed."
"That might be nice," Shizuru mused. "His tug rope is getting a bit ragged these days. Although, there is one thing…Natsuki was mentioning she needed something that would make it easier to take care of him?"
"Oh? We have a fine assortment of grooming products. Do you remember what she said?"
Shizuru touched her lower lip with her forefinger, thinking.
"I believe she said something about…bronze bore brushes and solvents?"
"Ah! Of course. We have a number of top-of-the-line cleaning kits for breeds with internal or external firearms. If I can show you to our weapons section, I'm sure that you'll be able to find something suitable to his gun type and caliber."
It's nice to see a company that tries to live up to its motto, Shizuru mused.
