Duran-kun and Kiyo-chan's Omake Theater

(featuring the Munakata family pet)

At the third knock, the apartment door was opened by a tall, handsome young man. Unfortunately for Shiho Munakata, he was not quite as tall and considerably more handsome than the boy she had wanted to see.

"Kanzaki? What are you doing here?"

Reito Kanzaki did not give any external sign that he was irritated by Shiho's rudeness. He merely smiled at her with the ease that made Natsuki Kuga and Yuuichi Tate mutually think of him as "the smirking wonder."

"This is my girlfriend's residence," he said. "It's a fairly natural place to expect to find me. And after all, I suspect that you're here looking for Yuuichi using precisely the same logic?"

A raucous caw of laughter sounded from above Shiho's left shoulder. Yatagarasu fluttered down to the ground, as it was apparently difficult to fly and cackle at the same time.

"Be quiet, you, or I'll pluck your tail feathers and use them in a hat!"

"Black wouldn't flatter your coloring," Reito pointed out.

"You be quiet, too. Is oniichan here? He wasn't at home…"

"It will, I think, be difficult to answer that question and be quiet at the same time," he pointed out. Shiho wished that she still had her old hairstyle; the sausage-curls were easier to yank on in frustration than her new drills. "But no," Reito continued, "as a matter of fact, he is not. Mai and Yuuichi have gone to the zombie movie triple feature, which is how I have come to be here, Mikoto-sitting."

On cue, the voice of Reito's younger sister rang out from inside the apartment.

"Ani-ue, can you warm up the popcorn? Mai'll yell at me if I do stuff in the kitchen while she's not here."

A small smile flickered over Shiho's lips. She understood, now, why Reito seemed to be especially barbed with his comments. The idea of his girlfriend being out on a date with her other boyfriend would have been galling enough, without her actually asking for him to help with household duties to facilitate it! Shiho didn't know how Reito put up with it. Or how oniichan put up with it, when he had a young, beautiful girl like herself who'd have been willing to devote herself body and soul to him and him alone every hour of the day, for ever and ev—

A sharp pecking at her ankle jolted her out of her love-induced haze.

"Gah! What is it!?"

"I said, did you want to come in and join us?" Reito repeated what Shiho had missed the first time. "Mikoto rented Back to the Future—the subtitled version, so she can work on her English while watching the movie."

Yatagarasu gave a fearful squawk and cowered behind Shiho's legs.

"He prefers the Japanese dub?"

"What? Oh, no, but I think we'll have to pass. Yatagarasu doesn't like time-travel stories."

"Oh, I see," Reito said, nodding sagely. "I'm not surprised, though, that your crow would dislike stories about disturbances in caw-sality."

From inside the apartment, Mikoto nailed him in the head with a throw pillow.
