Over the next few weeks Beca and Chloe had forgotten all about Leslie's new school when everyone was back in ballet and everyone had a different story to tell.
Charlotte had an injury on her knee she needed to see a doctor about. Sophie's teacher wanted to talk to her mothers about her starting pointe, both knew enough about ballet to know it was too early for Sophie, who wasn't even 9 yet, to start pointe.
Chloe was free the afternoon so she went to Sophie's studio to talk to her teacher. She shook hands with the kind skinny woman and they sat down.
"Thanks for meeting me, Mrs. Mitchell." the woman, Miss Helena Stark, said.
"It's a pleasure." Chloe said. "Miss Stark, I have to express my concern about Sophie starting pointe, both my wife and I think it's too soon for her."
"I'm sorry, Mrs. Mitchell, perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I would like to start working with Sophie on her turnout, strength on her hips, ankles and feet so she could maybe start pointe in the next two years." the blonde woman said. "Sophie is talented and she has a future in ballet, there is another thing I would like to discuss with you and your wife."
"Yes?" Chloe asked.
"This year, I'd like to work with Sophie so next year she can compete in the Youth America Grand Prix." Helena said. "It's the most prestigious ballet competition in the world."
"You really think my daughter's up for that?" Chloe asked.
"Yes. If she wants a future in ballet, this will open doors for her. If she competes and does well, she will be seen by many of the most famous dance schools in the country." Helena said. "And when she's old enough, she can win a scholarship to one."
"That sounds like too much pressure for a little girl who hasn't even turned 9 yet." Chloe said.
"I know, so I'd like you to talk to your wife and get back to me. If you feel this is too soon for Sophie, we can wait." Helena said.
"Okay. I'll talk to Beca, we'll both talk to Sophie and see what she thinks." Chloe said.
"Okay." Helena said and they stood up, shaking hands. "Thank you so much for coming here, Mrs. Mitchell."
"Thank you for talking to me, I'll talk to Beca and we'll get back to you." Chloe promised before leaving.
The Youth America Grand Prix thing stayed in her head until she got home. She felt it was too early for Sophie to be involved in any competition, she was too immature for something like that.
Beca felt differently. She felt if Sophie wanted to do it, there's no reason she shouldn't. If she wanted to be a dancer, she had to make herself known as soon as possible. If she had talent, she should show that to the world. Chloe was only convinced when Sophie said she wanted to compete, that she had heard about the competition. So they called her teacher and explained they'd want Sophie to enter Youth American Grand Prix.
Sophie showed she knew a lot more about ballet than her mothers thought. She said she'd watched First Position and she knew how it worked.
"I know it's not going to be easy, mommy. Even Miko Fogarty fell when she was competing!" Sophie said.
Beca and Chloe shared a look, neither had a slight clue who Miko Fogarty was, she must be a dancer.
"Okay, sweetie, but you have to understand, this means ballet is gonna be even harder and you're gonna have even less time to play." Chloe said.
"I don't need to play if I'm doing ballet, mamma." Sophie said.
"Okay." Chloe said, surprised.
"Only if you're sure, Sophie. If you suddenly decide you don't want to do this anymore, you can tell us and we'll tell your teacher." Beca said.
"Okay." Sophie said simply. "Can I get a new leotard then?"
"We'll think about it." Beca promised.
Sophie grinned.
"Thank you!" She said before getting up.
oO0Oo
Beca had to go to the studio on a Tuesday afternoon and it was a rare day when Sophie didn't have gymnastics or ballet so she asked her mom if she could come with.
So Beca was in her Audi with Sophie in the backseat. The little girl was telling stories and talking to Beca the entire time, much like she did the first time Beca took her.
When they entered, Sophie was quick to say hi to Mike and Andy, announcing she was coming with her mom to the studio.
"Wow! She's grown so much, last time I saw her she was so tiny!" Andy said to Beca, who laughed.
"I know." Beca said.
"I'm gonna be 9 soon!" Sophie grinned.
"Your birthday is still about 3 months away." Beca reminded her.
Sophie crossed her arms.
"Okay little red, let's go, mommy has to work." Beca said.
The two went to the recording studio and waited for a young singer Beca was working with. When the girl arrived, they worked on a few songs before Beca sighed.
"Okay Olivia, let's work on the monster." She said making the other woman laugh.
"Monster? You work with a monster?" Sophie asked, standing next to Beca.
"No, baby, I call monster this song I can't remix." Beca said.
"Maybe I can help you, mommy!" Sophie said.
Beca smiled.
"Maybe. Come sit on my lap, maybe you'll give me luck." Beca said, placing Sophie on her lap.
"I will, mommy. I'm like a lucky penny." Sophie said.
Beca laughed and gave Olivia the ok to start. 30 seconds into the song, the brunette was with her face in her hand and groaning, not knowing what to do to make the song better.
Beca raised her head when she noticed the song had different beats, great beats. She looked at Sophie to see her pressing buttons on the turntable.
"Sophie! You're not supposed to touch anything!" Beca said.
"But I'm making the song better." Sophie said.
Beca watched with wide eyes. Sophie was making some mistakes, sometimes she missed the tempo or the cue but she was definitely improving the song. Beca could fix her mistakes later but Sophie was doing something to improve the song. And she was rocking at it!
"The song's ending, Sophie, wrap it up!" Beca sais.
When Olivia finished, Sophie finished with a final beat and threw her arms in the air. Beca wrapped her arms around her and hugged her maybe a bit too tight, kissing her all over while the girl laughed.
"Sophie! You just helped me produce a song!" Beca said.
"I know!" Sophie said. "I'm a DJ too!"
"You are!" Beca said.
Olivia came out of the booth with a smile.
"I assume there's good news?" She asked.
"Sophie here just made your song." Beca said.
"Yaay! I rock!" Sophie said.
Olivia grabbed Sophie's face and kissed her cheek with a wide grin.
"I love you, Sophie! I want you around all the time!" Olivia said.
Sophie laughed.
"I can't, I have school." Sophie said. "But I'll come as often as I can."
Beca laughed.
"I guess that's enough for today, Olivia." Beca said.
"Thanks Beca. And thanks Sophie!" Olivia said.
Olivia left, leaving Beca and Sophie alone.
"You know Soph, the Grammy's are coming and I can bring a plus one. Wanna be my plus one?" Beca asked.
"But what about mamma?" Sophie asked with a frown.
"Mamma can't come, the Grammy's are on a Sunday evening and she has to work early the next day." Beca said.
"Okay! I wanna come, mommy!" Sophie said. "Are you up for a Grammy?"
"Yep. Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Producer of the Year, Non-Classical." Beca said.
"You're gonna win them all!" Sophie said.
"Hopefully, I've been up for Producer of the Year 3 times now and I didn't win." Beca said.
"You'll win if you bring me, mommy. I'll give you good luck." Sophie said with conviction.
Beca smiled.
"You will." Beca kissed her temple.
oO0Oo
It wasn't that Beca didn't want to bring Chloe, it wasn't that Chloe didn't want to go, she had gone to 4 Grammy's in a row and she had to work the next day.
Beca had asked Charlotte but the girl said she had to study. Leslie was not interested so that left Sophie.
Beca called her hair stylist and makeup artist to do her makeup at home. She'd asked get her stylist to choose a dress for Sophie.
Sophie was extremely happy she would be treated like a princess for an evening. She got her nails done next to Beca.
When their limo arrived, Sophie squealed loudly and got in before her mother, who smiled at her.
"This is so cool mommy!" Sophie said.
"Yeah, it is." Beca said. "Do you want some apple juice?"
"Yes, please!" Sophie said with a grin.
Beca grabbed a box of apple juice the limo company provided when she said she would be taking her daughter and handed to Sophie.
Sophie talked about how excited she was and how awesome it would be to see all those famous people in the red carpet. Beca was happy, Sophie was super excited.
When they finally made it there, Beca got out first and helped Sophie, who grinned at people taking their picture.
Beca took a few pictures alone and a few with Sophie, who was loving all the attention. She waved at practically everyone. Beca was surprised she wasn't scared by the screaming.
Beca found one of the artists she'd worked with in the past and she was chatting with the girl animatedly while Sophie stood by her side.
The little redhead looked at her sides and spotted a woman with a blonde pixie cut and a familiar face coming towards Beca. Sophie could swear she knew that woman but she couldn't place it.
The woman didn't seem to notice Sophie though, and she gently touched Beca's back.
"Beca Beale-Mitchell!" The woman said.
Beca looked pleasantly surprised.
"Katy! It's been so long!" Beca said.
"Where's the wife?" Katy asked.
"She's home, she has a full day tomorrow, she didn't want a headache." Beca explained.
"Oh I see." Katy nodded.
"But I brought Sophie with me." Beca said, putting an arm around Sophie's shoulder.
Katy finally saw Sophie and the little redhead finally recognized Katy as Katy Perry, the singer Beca had worked with and who Sophie became great friends with.
"Sophie!" Katy said with a surprised look.
Sophie immediately hugged Katy tight.
"Katy!" She said.
"Wow you look so big! How old are you?" Katy asked.
"I'm 8." Sophie said.
"Come on, we gotta take a picture together, Sophie." Katy said.
Sophie grinned and squealed and Katy winked at Beca before going back out to take a few pictures with Sophie, who was grinning all the way. Katy then knelt down to kiss Sophie's cheek so she could take a picture then Sophie did the same.
"It's been very fun, Sophie." Katy said while they made their way back to Beca. "I love your dress, little lady, have a good evening."
"You too, Katy!" Sophie said, hugging Katy tight before the woman waved and disappeared into the crowd. "Mommy, I saw Katy!"
Beca chuckled.
"Yeah," she said. "You'll get to see many other celebrities here tonight,"
Sophie grinned as she grabbed her mother's hand and walked with her. Beca gave as many interviews as she could, many of the interviewers also asked the little one a few questions too before Beca was allowed in to take her seat.
"Mommy, this is so much fun!" Sophie said. "I love it! I wanna be a celebrity too!"
"Oh honey, being a celebrity can have its consequences," Beca said. "But it can be quite fun,"
Sophie smiled.
"I wanna be a famous ballerina," she said. "I want little kids to look up at me,"
"You mean look up to you," Beca chuckled.
"What did I say?" Sophie asked, confused.
Beca chuckled.
The show was quite fun, Sophie sang along to the songs she knew, danced along with her mother and even went with her to present an award, which was arranged after Beca let the producers know she was taking her daughter.
Sophie loved every second of it and when her mother's first category was announced, she crossed all the fingers she could and bit her lip, waiting anxiously.
"And the winner is..."
"Please let it be mommy," Sophie whispered.
"Beca Mitchell!"
Sophie shot up right and started jumping up and down before hugging her mom, who lifted her from the ground and hugged her tight.
"You won mommy, go over there and give a beautiful speech!" Sophie said.
"I will!" Beca said, kissing her cheek before going up to the stage.
Sophie applauded like crazy, before she was met with her mother.
"Now to the most important category: Producer of the Year," Beca said to Sophie, as she let the little one hold her Grammy.
"Mommy, this is such a pretty award," Sophie said, inspecting the award.
"Oh, hopefully I'll be home with two more," Beca said.
In their new home, they'd built a small recording studio with a trophy room where Beca could keep her awards.
Beca won the other two categories she was up for and she took Sophie with her to take pictures with the awards.
The two went home not long after that, not staying for any after parties since Sophie had class the next day.
"Mommy, it was so much fun!" Sophie said when they were back in the limo.
"It was, huh?" Beca said.
"And I told you I'm a lucky penny," Sophie said.
"Yeah, you really are my lucky penny," Beca hugged her and kissed her cheek. "And I love you,"
"I love you too, mommy, thanks for taking me," Sophie smiled.
Beca had to take off the little makeup they'd put on Sophie and they were off to bed.
oO0Oo
The year went by in the blink of an eye. Before they knew it, Charlotte brought home an invitation to her middle school graduation.
"Awww, I remember when you brought home your kindergarten graduation invitation," Beca said, looking at the invitation.
Charlotte smiled.
"I remember. You couldn't stop crying," Charlotte chuckled.
"I can control myself nowadays," Beca said with a roll of eyes. "Oh you're gonna love high school,"
"Alice's older brother says high school sucks," Charlotte said.
"He's a guy, of course he's gonna think that," Beca said. "But I think you're gonna love it. There's nothing not to love,"
"Besides, it's only four more years before I go off to college," Charlotte said and she almost had to hold Beca so she wouldn't fall.
"You've grown a lot over the summer, you're almost a whole head taller than me," Beca said.
"I guess I got this from Ma," Charlotte said with a smirk. Though Chloe wasn't that much taller than Beca.
"Or from your aunt Stacie," Beca said.
"Yeah probably," Charlotte said.
Beca knew it was from Caiden. I mean the guy was tall, even in high school. But she'd never say his name in her household.
"Go show this to your sisters," Beca gave the invitation back to Charlotte who grinned and ran out of the room.
Charlotte went to Leslie's room to find it empty, so she went to Sophie's room to find the little one stretching for ballet.
"Hey Char!" Sophie grinned. "What's up?"
"Where's Leslie? I wanted to show something to you two," Charlotte said.
"Leslie is downstairs reading," Sophie said, going down to her middle split and laying on the ground before propping her head on her hands.
"Okay, I'll get her," Charlotte said.
The brunette found her little sister sitting on the couch reading an economy magazine. She would eventually push her little green/blue glasses up her nose, concentrated.
"Hey baby Leslie, what are you reading?" Charlotte asked.
"I'm reading about amortisation," Leslie said.
"Oh.. okay," Charlotte said. "Wanna come over to Sophie's room so I can show you and Sophie something?"
"Okay," Leslie said.
"You like economy?" Charlotte asked.
"I prefer engineering," Leslie said.
"What kind of engineering?" Charlotte asked.
"Genetics," Leslie said. "I wanna be a genetical engineer when I grow up,"
"That's nice," Charlotte said before making it to Sophie's room.
"What is it you wanna show us?" Sophie asked, standing up from her stretches.
"My middle school graduation invitation!" Charlotte said, showing them excitedly.
"Oh this is so cool!" Leslie said.
"I love it!" Sophie said. "You're definitely a big girl, you have boobs, your period, you're going to high school.."
"I know," Charlotte said with a squeal.
"That means I need a new dress for your graduation," Sophie said. "I can't look ugly,"
"You can't, because you're beautiful," Charlotte assured her.
"Char's right, So So," Leslie said.
"Thanks, guys," Sophie grinned. "Char, wanna stretch with me?"
"No, thanks Sophie, I'm going out with Maya and Alice to see about our graduation," Charlotte said.
"Oh okay," Sophie said. "So I'm gonna keep stretching because I wanna become a very important ballerina,"
"You will, you work very hard but remember not to push too hard, don't pull a muscle," Charlotte said.
"Don't worry Char, my teacher taught us all how to stretch at home so we don't hurt ourselves," Sophie said.
"Oh good," Charlotte said.
"So So, can I stretch with you?" Leslie asked.
"Sure, go put on some ballet clothes and let's get busy!" Sophie said.
Leslie nodded and went to her room to change into her ballet clothes.
Next chapter I'm gonna have Chloe and Beca celebrate their 10 year anniversary as someone suggested! I completely forgot about that! Thank you for reminding me!
