I'd been giving this story a break, it felt like it was the only story I ever wrote lol but it feels so good to be back with the Beale-Mitchell family!

Hope you enjoy this chapter!

Much to her amusement, Sophie's 12th birthday fell right on a Saturday and, even though the little girl had 3 hours of dance, she woke up at 6:30 very much excited. She went to wake her mothers and almost didn't want to. The two were so cute as they cuddled. But the little redhead shook those thoughts off, deciding her birthday was much too important and it needed to be celebrated.

"Mom! Ma! Wake up, your most talented, favorite daughter is turning 12 years old today!" Sophie said.

"Also our proudest daughter," Beca said with a yawn.

"Hey!"

"I'm kidding, come here my little preteen!" Beca said, sitting up. Sophie ran over and Beca hugged her tight. "It seems just yesterday you were eating pepperoni pizza for the first time!"

"Happy birthday, Sophie!" Chloe smiled as Sophie climbed on the bed over Beca and hugged her next. "I love you so much, I hope all your dreams come true!"

"They will if I work hard, I need to eat my breakfast and go to dance!" Sophie said, letting go of Chloe and running out the door.

"She's a piece, how did we get so lucky?" Beca asked, turning to her wife.

"I don't know," Chloe shrugged and stretched out her arms. "I'll go make her breakfast."

"I'll come with you," Beca said, getting out of bed.

Leslie came down to eat with them and she was quick to give Sophie a big hug. She was going again to a group study with a few kids from Stratford, they were studying Mandarin together. Their parents were glad, because neither Beca nor Chloe felt they were capable, mentally capable, of helping Leslie with her studies, much less Mandarin and Stratford was really helpful with that.

"Leslie, next week the study group is here, right?" Chloe asked her youngest, who pushed her glasses further up her face and nodded. "Great,"

"I'm entering the Leadership Program, ma," Leslie said, taking her seat next to her sister.

"Yeah, I remember," Chloe said.

"Wait, Leslie you'll be here for my birthday dinner, won't you?" Sophie asked worriedly.

"Of course," Leslie said.

"We'll have someone very special pick her up," Chloe said to Sophie.

"Who? Aunt Aubrey and Aunt Stacie?" Sophie grinned.

"How did you guess that?" Chloe asked jokingly.

"Because it's obvious," Sophie said as her redheaded mother put two pancakes on her plate.

oO0Oo

This year, only Chloe's parents and Beca's mom could make it, her father was stuck in school before winter break, so he couldn't take the weekend off. The party was small, some decoration in the backyard, just like Sophie asked for it. Many of her friends were there, a few from dance class. She had gotten her hair and makeup done and was feeling like a teenager.

Beca was taking a bunch of pictures as well as Charlotte, who was just so proud of her little sister.

When it was time to sing happy birthday, everybody gathered around the table and sang and then there was a round of pictures.

"You know, I'm impressed by how much Sophie looks like you," Beca said to her wife as they watched Sophie eat cake and talk with her dance friends.

"I know," Chloe said with a smile.

"Mom?" Leslie approached them, wiping her mouth with a napkin. "Can I go back inside now? I wanna finish my book."

"Sure, sweetie," Beca said. "Though don't you think it'd be rude to leave in the middle of your sister's party?"

"It's not my party," Leslie said.

"Well, it's alright, just be sure to come say goodbye to your family," Chloe said.

"I will," Leslie said before going inside.

Beca wrapped an arm around her wife and rested her head on her shoulder, smiling as they watched the party. Charlotte had invited Alice and Maya over and they were talking in a corner. Sophie and her friends were taking pictures with Kira.

Due to having a puppy who absolutely loved swimming, they had to put a fence around the pool, they'd had a few incidents where they'd let Kira out for her morning potty and she'd jump in the pool.

Sophie was absolutely exhausted at the end of the day, she went to sleep before anybody else. Well, she actually fell asleep during the movie everyone was watching, so Beca had to wake her up and help her to her bedroom, reminding her of the old days, when she could just pick her up and tuck her in.

The rest of the week was pretty uneventful, the family was planning on going to Colorado with Aubrey and Stacie just like they did almost every year, so the details were being planned and everything was being arranged.

"Mom, I wanna ask a question," Sophie said during lunch the Saturday after her birthday.

"Yeah?" Beca said distractedly.

"Is sex good?"

Beca turned her head so fast to look at Sophie if she hadn't been sitting she probably would've gotten a head rush. Charlotte choked on her juice while she laughed.

"Excuse me?" Beca asked, blinking in confusion.

"Is sex good?" Sophie repeated. "I'm getting to be a teenager and I wanna know what I'm getting into. So is sex good?"

Beca was at a loss of words.

"No,"

"Yeah,"

Beca then turned to her oldest daughter who spoke at the same time as her and the teenager blushed profusely, suddenly finding her food very interesting.

Sophie had a look of confusion while she looked between the two of them.

"I think what they mean to say is sex can be good and usually is, but not all the time," Chloe said.

Sophie thought about it, seemingly accepting the answer.

"Okay," Sophie said. "I have an announcement to make."

"And this is related to your question?" Beca asked with eyes wide.

"No," Sophie said before thinking. "Well, sorta. But it's not what you're thinking, mom."

Beca placed a hand over her heart and Chloe and Charlotte laughed at her antics.

"Mom, ma, I'm straight," Sophie said, bringing the attention back to her. "I'm sorry, but I don't think girls are for me."

There was silence for a while, Beca and Chloe eyed each other, trying to figure out if Sophie was serious.

"What?" Chloe finally asked.

"I know, you two are gay, Char is… somewhere in the middle, but I'm straight, I'm sorry," Sophie said.

Charlotte tilted her head and looked nowhere in particular at the mention of her name and sexuality.

"It's okay, why are you telling us this?" Chloe asked.

"I didn't want you to have any expectations," Sophie shrugged.

"Expectations? Soph, we just want you to be happy," Beca said. "We don't care who you date as long as you're happy. You don't have to 'come out' to us, none of you girls do."

Sophie looked a little relieved.

"Thanks," she said before her face twisted into a look of pain. "By the way, do you think I can skip dance today? My tummy hurts."

"Whoa, are you okay? You never skip dance," Charlotte asked.

Sophie hugged her stomach with both arms and groaned.

"It's been hurting since yesterday, it was hard to dance," Sophie said.

"Of course, sweetie," Beca said. "I can give you something for the pain, okay?"

Sophie nodded.

"Come here," Beca offered with a smile and Sophie got up and sat on her lap, still hugging her stomach. Beca brushed her hair away from her face and kissed the top of her head.

"Char, help me put the dishes in the dishwasher?" Chloe asked.

"Sure," Charlotte said. "By the way, I'm going to the movies with Alice and her boyfriend later."

"Alright, remember, home by 9," Chloe said.

"Yes, ma'am," Charlotte said as she got up and got everyone's plates.

Leslie helped put away the food and the drinks before going to her room. Chloe then turned to Beca and Sophie, the little one looked like she was in a lot of pain.

"Soph, where does it hurt?" Chloe asked.

Sophie sat up so she could show and Chloe and Beca shared a look. A look Sophie did not miss.

"What?" she asked.

"I think you might be having cramps," Chloe said. "I'll get some Midol."

"Cramps? Period cramps?" Sophie cheered up despite the pain.

"Yeah," Beca said. "You have everything, right? Your tampons and pads?"

"Yeah," Sophie said.

"I think it's best you put on a pad," Chloe said, handing her a glass of water and two caplets. Sophie drank the water and swallowed the caplets.

"You think my period is coming?" Sophie asked.

Chloe smiled, of course Sophie would be excited.

"Yeah," Chloe said.

"Yay! I'll go put on a pad!" Sophie jumped from Beca's lap and ran upstairs to her room.

"We'll see that excitement end in about 2 months," Beca said.

"Maybe a bit more until her cycle regulates," Chloe said with a chuckle.

"Yeah," Beca chuckled before getting up. "Come on, I wanna have a bit of a lazy Saturday with you,"

Chloe smiled and followed her wife to the movie room, where they chose a TV show and cuddled under a blanket. Not too long after, Sophie was back, still in pain. She curled up in a chair with her own blanket and ended up falling asleep while her mothers watched their show.

"I'm leaving," Charlotte announced. "I'll text you when I get there and when I leave. We might go to Alice's for a drink,"

"What?" Beca snapped.

"Kidding," Charlotte chuckled. "See ya."

"You don't need DNA to tell she's your daughter," Chloe said with a chuckle.

"If I did, I'd be the dumbest mother ever," Beca said, making both laugh.

A while later, Sophie got up and stretched before getting up.

"I'm getting a snack," she said with a yawn.

"Are you feeling better?" Chloe asked.

"Yeah, the pain is gone," Sophie smiled.

Chloe smiled and Sophie left the room.

"I hate that Sophie is like a few inches taller than me already," Beca said. "She's 12!"

"Baby," Chloe said, making Beca look at her. "We both knew this was gonna happen."

"Fuck you," Beca said, making Chloe laugh.

Chloe pecked her wife's lips and turned her attention back to the TV, seconds later they both heard a scream. The two jumped from their seats to try and find the source but Sophie came running towards them with a huge grin, squealing.

"I got my period! I got it!" she squealed, hugging Chloe tight.

"Congratulations!" Chloe said.

"Yeah, congrats Soph," Beca said.

"I'm so happy!" Sophie said.

"Of course," Beca chuckled.

"Mom, can I get a period cake now?" Sophie said. "Just like Charlotte's?"

Beca tilted her head, confused. She looked at Chloe for help and the bigger redhead laughed.

"The period cake you got for Charlotte a few years ago," Chloe said.

"Oh! Yeah, baby, absolutely," Beca said. "I'll call the bakery and order it. Is it okay if they only have it for tomorrow though?"

"Yes, as long as I get a period cake," Sophie said.

"Great," Beca fished her phone out of her pocket and went through her contact list.

"Ma, can I wear a tampon to go to dance?" Sophie asked.

"Yeah, if you're comfortable with it," Chloe said. "By the way, we should schedule an appointment for you with a gyno."

"What's a gyno?"

"Gynecologist. A lady doctor, just to make sure everything's okay. We all go after we have our first period," Chloe said.

"Yay!" Sophie said. "Do we have enough pads and tampons at home?"

"Yes, we live amongst five girls, now four of us are getting their periods, we have more than enough," Chloe assured her.

Beca came back a few minutes later.

"It'll be ready by 5, I'll have Charlotte pick it up," Beca said.

"Yaaay!" Sophie hugged Beca.

"Congrats, Sophie," Beca said. "Now you're officially a big girl."

"Because I got my period?"

"No, because you're taller than me,"
