Beastars – Into the spotlight
Chapter 9 – Famous and lonely
POV Jack
It was just past ten on a very peaceful Sunday morning. Legoshi and I wanted to treat ourselves to a really nice breakfast in the cafeteria today, and we even had our trays already, but on our way from the counter the in the meanwhile quite famous grey wolf was held up by some of his fans yet once again. I went in search for a nice spot to sit in the meanwhile. Legoshi still had a lot of admirers, and he was getting really annoyed by it slowly but surely. But we still were in good spirit and the omelet we got ourselves smelled really delicious already.
But just as Legoshi finally was about to take a seat beside me at the table, he suddenly got approached quite brutally.
"Hey, Romeo!" the red fox yelled at him loudly, as he arrived him in an aggressive manner. He immediately made a scene that quite a lot of people noticed. Just like me, they all stopped in their tracks and watched with great interest.
I had no idea what this guy could possibly want from him all over sudden. I had found out his name though. He was called Sebastian as I had gotten to know from Zuki yesterday, and he apparently was running as a candidate for the Beastars as well.
He looked really mad right now.
Before Legoshi could even look, the fox smacked the full tray of food out of his hands from below and it all landed on the floor in quite a spectacular way.
"Hey!" Legoshi yelled in surprise, "What´s wrong? What is that about?"
The fox began pushing him backwards quite vigorously and became even more aggressive. People behind them jumped of their seats in surprise, I nearly chocked on the bagel which I just had bitten into.
Legoshi managed to stop him eventually, but this seemed to be just the beginning.
"You bastard slept with my girlfriend!" the fox yelled at him loudly.
A quite surprised and also slightly suspicious noise went through the crowd as they heard that, but Legoshi was just as confused as they were, apparently. Some students had gotten out their phones and started filming it in the meanwhile.
"W-what? When have I…what are you talking ab-"
"Shut up! I know you´ve been talking to her at the food counter Friday evening!"
"I…I was just talking to her because she asked me something…" Legoshi told him, still pretty calmly for that matter, "I haven´t seen her ever since! I…I don't even know her name, why would you come at me for this?"
"Well…you are one talented actor, aren't you?" he asked cynically, still being very aggressive with his body-language, "Cut the bullshit, Wolf!"
Legoshi just shook his head at this point. He seemed genuinely confused about this, and there was a very good reason for that. He had barely left the dorm this whole weekend. I could bear witness for that, I was there.
"What are you talking about? I have never touched her!"
"…then why did she have a photo of you on her phone, laying naked besides her?" he asked while showing him said picture on his phone.
Legoshi took a closer look and seemed to be really surprised about this right now.
"I…I…" he stuttered, looking at the picture on the screen, "…where did you get that from?"
"She probably took it after you slept with her!?" he yelled in annoyance, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"I didn´t do anything!" Legoshi assured loud but still rather calmly, "I´ve never seen that photo before!"
"Well, how could you when she took it, genius!?" he yelled, "But it is your back with the scratches, isn´t it? Don´t tell me that´s not you! I´ve seen the fucking show! Isn´t this your fucking back?!"
Legoshi didn´t know how to answer that right now. I sadly couldn't see the photo from my point of view right now, but I certainly knew about the scars on his back. Many people knew about those scars, most of them had seen the Romeo and Juliet performance.
"ISN`T IT?" he now yelled even louder, before he suddenly took a powerful swing at him, ripping Legoshi´s shirt with his sharp claws and a lot of violence, "ISN´T IT?"
This was really getting out of control at this point.
"Hey!" Legoshi yelled again, now trying to stop him from destroying his shirt even more, "Cut it out! I didn´t do anything with her! I don't even know her name!"
"OH YEAH!?" the fox yelled at him, "BULLSHIT! Where has she been the whole afternoon yesterday?"
"What do I know?" Legoshi yelled, as the fox tried to rip his shirt apart even further. This time the wolf just grabbed his arm in mid-air and stopped it dead, make him completely unable to move. They just stood there like this for a moment, and while the fox aggressively tried to free himself from his grip, Legoshi still tried to stay calm about this. He looked him right in the eyes and told him distinctively: "I have never touched your girlfriend. I don't know where that photo comes from, maybe it´s faked…but I would never do that to anybody."
"LIAR" the fox immediately yelled at him, ripping his arm out of Legoshi´s hands now, "You´re just trying to mock me! Don't think you can mess with me, just because you´re famous now!"
Quite a lot of people had gathered around their fight in the meanwhile, but nobody seemed to have the courage to stop them. I didn´t want to get in between this either if I was totally honest. They both were a lot stronger than I, and I was pretty sure Legoshi didn´t need any help for this on a physical level. He tried to stay on top of this situation, but the fox tried attacking him again nevertheless.
"Stop it!" Legoshi told him loudly, trying to keep him away, "I don't want to hurt you!"
"Are you scared you little pussy?" the fox growled at him, "You scared of a little fight?"
"I´m scared of hurting you" Legoshi replied dryly, pushing him away once again.
He just wouldn´t give in.
"…I´m not scared of you" Legoshi just sighed tiredly.
The wolf sounded really annoyed by this circus in the meanwhile, but apparently that was exactly what the fox wanted. We could tell he wasn't scared of the little fox.
I just hoped he would keep his calm a little longer.
"Come on then, fight me!" Sebastian growled again, already preparing to take the next swing at the wolf. But Legoshi still remained ignoring it pretty successfully.
"No, I won´t fight you" he told him coldly.
"FIGHT ME YOU LITTLE BITCH!" the fox yelled at him, taking another swing at him which Legoshi now blocked very easily.
"You would not want me to fight you."
"I´m not scared of you!" he growled again, already preparing for his next attack.
Legoshi still didn´t stop him, but this time he actually got hit in the face by a really mean swing of the fox´s sharp claws. It even drew a bit of blood on one of his cheeks. It seemed to hurt pretty badly too, and he stumbled backwards a few feet, but he still didn´t look too angry about it.
"Yeah!" the fox yelled loudly, "You like that you little shit?"
I had the feeling that he was doing this on purpose in the meanwhile. He really tried teasing him so badly that he would lose his patience and fight him back eventually.
Legoshi at least blocked his next attacks now, but he still didn´t make an effort to defeat him.
"Still scared of hurting me?" the fox asked in a provoking way "Huh?"
Legoshi still didn´t react to his teasing and remained trying to keep him on a certain distance. He just shook his head at that question, hoping the fox would get tired of this soon.
"HEY!" a female voice suddenly yelled, loud enough to make both of them stop what they were doing. Everybody around, Legoshi and also Sebastian just remained staring at her now. Juno was standing right beside them all over sudden. I didn´t know where she came from, I hadn´t seen her in the entire cafeteria until now, but now she was just as present as she was when she played Juliet on the stage.
"I took that photo!" she clarified loudly, "I sent it to somebody who I really thought I could trust. It was a big mistake. Legoshi didn´t do anything!"
That statement was followed by a big noise of shock and then a big silence.
"Well…" the fox growled lowly now, "Isn´t that convenient?"
They all looked a little dumbfounded right now. Every rumor about Legoshi and Juno seemed to be proven with that, finally. Now they all knew it.
Now she just looked at him with sad eyes. "I´m sorry" she told him low but very clearly, "…for everything."
It really sounded like a sincere apology to me, this looked too real to be just acting.
With those words and everybody staring at her, she quickly left the cafeteria, not looking back for a single moment. Nobody said a word until she was out of sight, the only thing to be heard were her footsteps.
Sebastian seemed to have calmed down a little now, still panting heavily from the fight. Now there was no more reason left to fight about.
Legoshi kept looking at him with cold eyes though. All that drama had proven to be completely pointless.
But somehow, the fox still didn´t feel humiliated enough at this point.
"Be grateful she saved you" he spat at him loudly and still quite aggressively, and with that he just turned around and left him standing there next to his ruined breakfast. We all just stared at the scene, not being able to react or say anything.
"At least a sorry would be nice" Legoshi told him now low but distinctively, and I was glad he did at least that. I couldn't understand how he could still be so calm about this.
"Fuck off you little pussy" he just got as an answer.
Everybody just stared at the red fox in pure hate and disbelief. Who did that guy think he was?
"…and you want to become the next Beastar?" Legoshi asked him with an amused smirk, "Good luck with that."
Almost the entire hall now supported Legoshi for that statement.
"Yeah, that´s right!" someone yelled.
"Get lost, fox!" another one.
"Legoshi didn´t do anything!"
"Get some respect you dick!"
He just now seemed to realize how much of a prick he had been this entire time. But he still didn´t really seem to care that everybody here hated him now.
"At least I don't run away from a fight!" he yelled in his defense.
That didn´t make it any better for him either, they all rather started booing him.
Legoshi raised one of his paws now and waited until everybody had calmed down a little. It seemed like he had something to say as well.
"I fought a clan of Lions already…" he told him lowly but very intriguing, "…guys bigger and definitely stronger than you…" he added, "…If I had fought you back, you would lie in the infirmary right now, or probably still there on the floor by my breakfast…"
He gave us a moment to let that sink in, and the energy in this room went to a scarily high level right now.
"Yeah!" some other student yelled in agreement, but then immediately shut up again.
"…but I don't fight with somebody for a reason they completely made up. Be grateful for that decision of mine. I think other guys would have already punched you for ruining their meal like that."
Now that shut him up for dead. There was no recovery from that.
After Legoshi said that, a lot of support, even cheering came from the students around them. The wolf still stared him right in the eyes, but now he also smirked a tiny little bit. "…so, if you´re not still here because you want to apologize, clean up all this mess and get me a new breakfast, I´d really recommend you to leave right now."
The fox just didn´t know what to answer to that. That probably hurt a lot more right now than the bleeding scratches on Legoshi´s face. Keeping his mouth shut was his best option anyway, because anything he said would have just made him look even stupider.
Legoshi waited another moment for everybody to calm down a little once again, watched in amusement how the fox looked more and more stressed out with every second that passed, and then he finished him off: "I always thought foxes were so clever…guess there are exceptions to everything."
With those words, Legoshi just left him standing there and slowly took a seat at the table I was sitting at.
The fox had no other option than leaving the cafeteria at this point. They all clearly were against him, even booing him and telling him to leave, and he really hurried to get out of sight at this point.
After he left, they really cheered, even clapped for how well Legoshi had solved that situation. But he just shrugged his shoulders with a little smirk. I figured he was glad all that trouble was finally over.
After taking a few deep breaths, he stood up from the table again and went for the counter one more.
"I´m gonna get myself a new breakfast" he told me with a tired little sigh, "Dig in, don´t wait for me."
POV Juno
"Hey" I immediately stopped him as I saw him leaving the cafeteria.
The annoying fox guy who just started the fight with Legoshi headed straight back for his dorm and tried to ignore me though.
"Hey! I was talking to you!" I said, quickly following him down the hallway.
As he still wasn´t listening and kept on walking away from me, I grabbed him by one of his arms now and stopped him quite abruptly.
"What do you want?" he growled at me angrily, but that impressed me just as little as it had impressed Legoshi. I had been waiting for this, and he wouldn't get away from it now.
"I could be asking you that" I told him distinctively, "Why are you searching for trouble with Legoshi? What has he ever done to you?"
"He told me you´re not his girlfriend. How could I know it was you took that picture?"
"You knew very well that he didn´t do anything with that vixen. He´s not known for doing something like that! This is about the Beastars, isn´t it? You want to mess up his reputation?"
"Let go of me" he told me in annoyance, trying to free his arm from my grip.
I grabbed him even firmer therefore so he knew how much stronger I was.
"Ah…fuck…" he winced.
I looked him right in the eyes now. "Legoshi would shred you apart in mid-air if he wanted to" I told him coldly, "Don't give him a reason to."
"Fine!" he groaned in annoyance, "Chill out, okay?!"
"God, that guy really does behave like a little kid. And he wants to become a Beastar?"
I grabbed him a little firmer and still looked him right in the eyes once again.
"You won, okay?" he told me with a pain infused expression, "Jesus!"
"That vixen you´re talking about…" I asked him, "…she´s not really your girlfriend, is she?"
He seemed a little surprised that I knew that.
"Just fucked her a couple of times…" he growled, still trying to free himself from my grip, "…don't care what she thinks. Why would you ask that?"
I just couldn´t help but shake my head at so much insolence. He was an even bigger asshole than I first thought.
"I met her in a hallway last evening…" I explained, "…had a really nice talk with her. She didn´t sound like she was happy with the relationship she is in though…"
"Yeah? What do I care?"
"Girls have feelings too you know?" I told him in pure disbelief, "That´s really cruel."
"Yeah? You jealous?" he asked, now with that arrogant and really stupid ´I-think-I´m-superior´-grin once again, "Wanna get it on with me as well? Was that loser of a wolf not able to satisfy you?"
I couldn't believe he was still going on like that.
"How could that douchebag ever think he could become a Beastar? How could he ever think that any girl could be impressed by that bullshit?"
Without thinking about it twice, I grabbed him by his neck, lifted him up and pushed him with his back against the wall of the hallway. Then I stared him right in the eyes, before I said: "That´s not the right way to talk to any women, scumbag! And you are just a little fox, how could you ever even think you could satisfy a wolf?"
I looked him deep in the eyes for another moment, then I released him and let him fall back down onto the floor.
"Last warning" I told him coldly, "If I ever hear of something like that again, I´ll mess up your image even harder than you ever thought was possible."
That shut him up for at least a moment.
"…whatever" he said lowly, looking a little fearful now though.
"And if that´s not enough…" I told him, as I went on my way, "…I´m gonna mess you up as well."
And with that I left him standing right where he was. That was everything I wanted to clarify. At least with him.
POV Legoshi
"Hey Legoshi" somebody behind me asked, "Is it true you´ve slept with Juliet?"
I just nodded tiredly. The lady from the cafeteria raised an eyebrow when she saw me here ordering exactly the same meal once again just a few minutes after the first time, but she gave it to me nevertheless. She didn´t say anything about my almost completely ripped shirt either, but I was pretty sure she had noticed the fight that was going on anyway.
"Are those scratches real on your back?" the same guy asked.
"Yes" I sighed, "They are real."
Although answering that question really annoyed me in the meanwhile, it just made me realize something right now:
"That was the reason why Juno took that photo! She and Bill´s girlfriend wanted to see the scars at the party already!"
Now all that made so much sense all over sudden. Juno must have taken that photo after we had sex. I must have been asleep already and she sent it to Samantha so she could see my back as well.
"Samantha was the person she thought she could trust!"
It didn´t make the fact any better, but at least I knew she did it not because of grief or something like that. It was a pretty wild evening and she too was a little drunk after all.
"That was just awesome!" the opossum behind me ripped me out of my thoughts, "You should really think about becoming the new Beastar! I would vote for you!"
"Thanks" I told him with a polite little smile, before I took myself another paper cup and filled it with coffee.
"Hey, are you alright?" a zebra girl asked me now, stopping me on my way to the next station, "You´re still bleeding!"
"Oh…" I said, trying to stay patient, "…that…yeah, no, it´s fine. Don't worry."
"That fox guy is such an idiot! I would totally have punched him for that!"
"I don't want any trouble with him" I waved it off.
"You´re such a nice guy" she told me, "I´m sure you would never cheat on your girlfriend!"
"I…uhm…" I said, actually a little shocked about those two assumptions she made, "No…of course not."
This situation felt just so strange to me. It was not just that nobody was scared of me anymore, they all seemed to think that I was this perfect person. But that was just not true.
"If you only knew what is really going on" I thought to myself.
Luckily I had my original breakfast back together in the meanwhile and therefore an excuse to leave this conversation.
I went back to our table after I´ve had paid for my food once again and took a seat besides Jack. There were still quite a lot of people who looked at me with great interest, I wasn´t quite sure if it was because of the fight, the food on the floor or because my shirt was almost completely torn apart, but I didn´t care about any of that right now. I really didn´t mind about being the center of attention anymore. I was just hungry at this point.
"Honestly" Jack grinned, putting his fork down for a moment, "How is that fox still alive?"
"That´s probably just what he wanted" I told him, waving it off, "He came to me like that before already. I think he really wants to become the next Beastar. Seems like he sees great concurrence in me…"
He nodded understandingly. "Well, he can forget about that now..."
I nodded in agreement. I couldn't disagree with him on that point. I still didn´t care about the Beastar vote, but the students would surely remember what happened today. They even filmed it.
I finally began eating my breakfast and took a big sip of coffee first of all. That made me feel so much better right away.
"You´re bleeding on your face by the way" Jack reminded me as well.
I just nodded with a full mouth.
"...I know, and my shirt is almost off…" I chuckled, actually being quite amused and kinda well-spirited about all this right now.
"Yeah…" he chuckled lowly, "They are still staring at you…"
"Let them stare" I waved it off, arming myself with a fork as well now, "It´s fine."
I really didn´t mind about any of that. The omelet tasted fantastic, and that was reason enough to make me feel happy right now.
POV Haru
"I sent it to somebody I thought I could trust."
That sentence from Juno kept coming up in my mind again and again even long after I was done with my breakfast. So that was how my roommates got that picture. It had spread throughout the whole school as it seemed. That seemed to be so special that everybody needed to know about it: The scratches on Romeo´s back.
I knew all along that it must have been Juno who took that photo, but I just couldn´t figure out why she would send it to anybody.
This was by far the most interesting Sunday-morning I´ve had in quite a while. I was sitting in a really far away corner for my breakfast, but when I came closer to watch the fight as well, Legoshi was by far too troubled to even notice me.
It seemed like he was seen as concurrence for the Beastar-title as well in the meanwhile. Sebastian must be really afraid of him for that matter, otherwise he wouldn´t try to provoke him like that. But sadly -for him- Legoshi´s fuse didn´t seem to be as short as he thought, and Juno saving him from that made-up ´you´ve-slept-with-my-girlfriend´ -bullshit wasn´t exactly part of his plan either. That photo of him was just what the fox needed, and that vixen he was talking about probably wasn´t even his girlfriend. I knew Sebastian, he had an equal problem giving as me committing to a relationship with just one person.
He tried to make Legoshi look like an asshole so he wouldn´t stand in his way becoming the next Beastar, and that could have worked out for him, but today that really back-fired at him.
He really wasn´t that stupid, moves like this had worked out for him before. He just made the giant mistake of underestimating that Wolf. This might have cost him all the sympathies he had been working for so long.
I actually really wanted to talk to him about this. And I wanted to know how serious Legoshi was about the Beastars in the meanwhile. It wasn´t unlikely that Legoshi would have chances.
Maybe Sebastian knew more about that than I. It has been quite a while since he last visited the garden though. Maybe I should go see if I can find him in his dorm.
POV Bill
I didn´t think it was possible, but when I woke up this morning and checked my phone, somebody had sent me a link to a video that really made me feel sort of cheerful for a moment: "… …I sent it to somebody who I thought I could trust… …"
I knew exactly who that was. She would be sleeping right beside me, if we hadn´t had this really rough argument last evening.
So I wasn´t the only one who fucked up sometimes. I knew Sam couldn´t keep something like that to herself. Even I had that picture of Legoshi´s back on my phone.
And now I also had a video where a fox was trying to pick a fight with him.
I even believed I had seen that fox-guy before. I was pretty sure he was in the athletics-club or something like that, and I believed he was one of this year´s Beastars-candidates as well. But I couldn´t believe that he was so stupid and thought Legoshi could have the balls to sleep with his girlfriend. He didn´t even have the balls to sleep with Haru, although she really was the biggest slut I´ve ever met at this school.
Sadly, even that didn´t mess up Legoshi´s reputation. Quite the opposite was the case once again. The guy from my class who sent me the video also said in his next message: "I don´t know who´s going to become the new Beastar this year if it´s not that guy."
The whole school loved him for being a pussy and backing off from a fight rather than being a wolf and ripping that little fox in half.
"It´s about time he gets beaten up really badly. Maybe he would notice then what it meant to be a large sized carnivore."
I watched that video once again, then I put my phone away and pulled aside the curtain of my bed.
My dorm was completely empty. No roommates, no Sam. It has been a while since I last woke up all alone.
"…I thought foxes were so clever…"
That statement from Legoshi just wouldn´t get out of my head right now. That move of the fox really was stupid, there was no other way of saying it. I had to agree with Legoshi on that, sadly.
He did rip him apart. He just used his words instead of his body strength.
So now the wolf became the clever fox. Quite ironic.
"Okay" I thought to myself, not being able to hide a little smirk, "Let´s see how long that strategy will work out for you, Volpone."
POV Jack
Just a few minutes after Legoshi went into the bathroom, somebody knocked on the door. I quickly picked up his ripped shirt and threw it onto his bed, so it didn´t look too messed up on the floor, then I went to get the door. When I opened, a really beautiful, fire-red vixen stood in front of me. I wasn´t quite sure if I had seen before or not, but I was pretty sure I would have remembered a girl with this humble elegance.
"H-hey…" she greeted hastily, and she seemed to be pretty nervous about something, "…m-my n-name is Anita" she introduced herself, "I´m searching the dorm where Legoshi lives! You know, the actor from the drama-club who played Romeo…"
"Uhm…" I stuttered, still a little dumbfounded by her staggering appearance, "…yeah. You´ve found it…"
"Yeah?" she asked with a relieved, but still a little nervous, smile.
"Y-yeah… …Sorry! Yes, you´re at the right dorm! …I´m Jack, I´m a roommate of his!" I told her while gesturing her to come in, "He just hopped under the shower though, he had a little brawl at breakfast today…"
"I know…" she explained with sad eyes, "I just saw the video! I came to say sorry!"
"Video?! Right, there were quite a lot of students filming that fight in the cafeteria! Damn, I had totally forgotten about that. But what had that to do with her?"
"Sorry for…what?" I asked in confusion.
"For what my ´boyfriend´ did to him this morning" she explained.
I liked how she put quotes above the word "boyfriend" with her hands. And I liked that not just because it was funny.
"Oh…" I said, nodding understandingly.
"He is such a jealous douchebag" she sighed, "But I really didn´t think he would spy on me and search through my phone…"
"Did you get that photo from Juno as well?"
"I don't remember where I got it from" she sighed, "I didn´t even know I still had it on my phone…"
"Oh man" I said lowly, "That sucks."
She nodded with sad eyes.
A little pause appeared while we waited. I liked this girl immediately, she was so cute and down to earth. I couldn´t take my eyes off her. She was so elegant with every move, so precious, so innocent.
"Why would she ever pick somebody like him as her boyfriend? Because he´s a fox as well? Or because he´s in contention for the beastars? Maybe because he´s in the athletics club and has a strong body? I didn´t know, but I knew that I liked her."
"Don't worry too much though" I waved it off, "Legoshi has survived worse things than that."
"I just really want to apologize" she explained, "He´s a really good guy, he doesn´t deserve getting treated like that."
"He is a good guy" I affirmed, "…but somehow he still manages to get into trouble all the time…"
"Sebastian starts trouble with a lot of people, it´s because…"
Just in that moment Legoshi unlocked the door of the bathroom, and I really hoped for him that he at least had a towel around his waist.
He did have one, luckily, but he still looked kinda surprised of course.
"Hey" he asked, sounding a little puzzled, "What is going on?"
"H-hey…" the vixen greeted him, "I came to say sorry!"
That puzzled him even more.
"For what Sebastian did to you this morning…" she explained, "Oh my god, he really hit you in the face!"
She came closer towards him and took a closer look at him carefully.
"Oh…" Legoshi said. It seemed he understood it as well now, "…you´re his girlfriend?"
"I was…" she said lowly, "…but it never really was a genuine relationship in the first place."
"He has quite an ego, that´s for sure" Legoshi chuckled.
"He really has!" she agreed, "I feel so bad for all that! He must have searched through my phone when I was still asleep this morning! S-somebody sent it to me a few days ago…I´m so sorry I didn´t delete it right away!"
She almost sounded like she was crying right now.
"Hey…" Legoshi tried to console her a little, "It´s not your fault! Don't worry, I´m not mad at you…"
"T-thank you so much!" she said, now hugging him gently, half naked as he was, "You´re such a good guy! I really hope you become the new Beastar!"
"That´s nice of you to say" he waved it off, "But I don´t care about that. I won´t stop him if that´s what he´s after."
"Really?"
"Yeah…" he affirmed, "I don't care about that. But I doubt that he would become the Beastar after that anyway…"
"Don't worry, he´s not getting the vote after that" she agreed, sounding deeply convinced about that as well.
"He should do what he wants" Legoshi said with a little chuckle, "I don't care about what he does, as long as he doesn't treat you as poorly."
"I just broke up with him. It never really was a relationship anyway. It was just sex in the end…" she explained.
My heart began pounding even faster when I heard that. She was not in a relationship.
Just in that moment Legoshi took a short look at me and his smirk widened a little bit. He must have noticed that I liked her.
"Was it that obvious? How could he tell?
Then I suddenly noticed what it must have given it away: My tail was wagging like crazy.
"Shit. How embarrassing!"
It just wasn´t possible for me to hide it. I really hoped she didn´t notice it as well though. But I was standing behind her when she hugged him, so I was pretty sure I was alright for now. I just had to get my stupid tail under control.
"…and yeah, he was treating me really poorly…" she added with a little wink, "Not everybody has as much luck as Juno for that matter…"
I could literally feel how uncomfortable Legoshi was with that compliment right now. The way she looked at him right now was obvious: She too thought that Legoshi was this perfect guy without any flaws.
He just gave her a little smile for that comment but didn´t say anything.
"And you don't want to become the next Beastar?" she kept on asking, "I think you would have good chances!"
He just shook his head with a little smile, before he carefully walked past her, went towards his drawer, got himself fresh boxers, which he put on under his towel, short pants and a fresh shirt as well. He didn´t really mind her watching, but it was not like he had something to hide anyway.
"I don't understand all this hype" he told her while pulling his new shirt over his head, "I really just try not to get into trouble with anybody…"
She still stared at him with great interest. First at the huge wounds on his back, then at his face when he turned towards us again.
"I´m really sorry I wasn´t there to stop him" she told him with sad eyes once again.
"It´s okay" he told her with another little smirk, as he already made his way towards the door, "Really, I don't blame you for anything. Thanks for your visit though!"
With that he reached out for the door-handle.
"N-no problem!"
"Excuse me, guys" Legoshi apologized himself now, "I gotta talk to somebody."
"Have a good day!" Anita told him.
"Later Romeo" I yelled after him with a little chuckle.
With that and a little wink he left the room and closed the door himself smoothly.
"Romeo?" Anita asked with a little chuckle, "…you think he´s on his way to Juliet right now?"
"I hope so" I said, shrugging my shoulders with a little smirk, "It´s not like they don't have anything to talk about."
POV Legoshi
"Who is there?" a female voice asked through the door a few seconds after I knocked. It wasn´t Juno´s voice, so it must be one of her roommates.
This was really unnerving already. It took me forever to get here in the first place, because everybody had questions about the fight; if I really haven´t slept with that vixen; about the scars on my back and if I already was nominated for becoming the new Beastar, and they didn´t bother asking them.
It felt sort of cool to be famous like this, but right now I really had other business.
At least I was alone here in this hallway right now.
"Uhm…" I said, "It´s Legoshi…from the drama-club…is Juno there? I would like to talk to her, please."
Now they immediately opened the door. It was a wolf who stood in the doorframe, but it wasn´t Juno. I had seen her before when I woke up in Juno´s dorm after the Halloween-Party, but I couldn´t remember her name or if she even had told it to me.
"Hi" she greeted, in a voice that somehow sounded really flirty to me. I found that a little weird already, but maybe that was just her style. Who was I to judge?
"Hey…" I greeted back, waving her shortly.
"Looking good, Romeo" she chuckled, "…but what happened to your face?"
"Nothing bad, a fox hit me in the face with his claws" I waved it off, hoping to get rid of that topic as quickly as it came up, "…is Juno here? I need to talk to her, please."
"What? Why would somebody hit you?" the other wolf girl wanted to know, "Why would a fox even start a fight with a wolf?"
"It´s not that important, really" I waved it off.
"Come on…" she giggled, "It´s nothing malicious, I´m really just curious. You can call me Vera by the way" she introduced herself.
I didn´t like her already. There was something greedy about her and I found her really pushy.
"Why wouldn´t she just tell me if Juno was here already?"
As I didn´t like how she tried to force me into that conversation, I kept her on a certain distance right away.
"Romeo" I told her with a little smirk while shaking her hand, "…nice to meet you. Excuse me, is Juno here or not? It´s really important…"
"Oh, is this about…" Vera wanted to ask, but now immediately got interrupted.
"I already told you I´m sorry…" I heard Juno´s voice coming from her bed lowly, "…and I meant it. What more is there to talk about?"
So she was here. I was so glad I had a reason to ignore that other wolf-girl now.
"It´s not about that, I promise!" I assured, "…I wasn´t quite fair to you either and I want to apologize as well."
I was aware that this wouldn´t be easy, but I really wanted to do this.
She didn´t answer me for a moment when I said that, but then she suddenly moved aside the curtain of her bed and showed herself.
"There she is" Vera chuckled.
I could tell how annoyed Juno was just by that comment already. I understood her pretty well actually. Vera seemed to feel like she was totally above our situation and knew everything about us and our problems, when in reality she probably had no clue what was going on. Having her around was really unpleasant, but she didn´t notice that at all, sadly.
Juno ignored it though, got off her matrass, took a quick look in the mirror and then immediately went on her way towards the exit of the room. She didn´t want anybody to listen to our conversation either.
I gave the other wolf girl one last faked little smirk, then I wordlessly followed Juno into the hallway and left her behind me as well.
As we went through the building, a lot of people stopped and stared at us once again. It was not like we weren't used to this, but in our current situation that was quite uncomfortable nevertheless.
I hadn´t thought about that before. There wasn´t really a place on the campus where we would be all alone, and since the weather outside was really nice, the park would be full of students as well.
But then I suddenly had an idea: I still had the key to the garden.
"Come on, follow me" I told her lowly, immediately changing direction, "I know a quiet place…"
I led her up the stairs and right towards the entrance door of the gardening club. I hoped Haru wasn't here by any chance, but even if she was, I was pretty sure she would understand that we just were searching for a place where we were alone for a minute.
Nobody was here. Juno and I were all alone, finally.
When I closed the iron door behind her, I took a deep breath first of all. The lovely smell of the flowers made me relax a little right away. I had a good feeling about this.
I took a look at her and it seemed like she felt a little more comfortable here as well. But she still tried avoiding direct eye-contact as it seemed.
"Your roommate is really annoying, isn´t she?" I asked, trying to lighten up the mood at least a little.
That made her nod without hesitation. Now she finally looked at me.
"It´s not like I don't deserve it though…"
"You sent that photo to Samantha, didn´t you?"
She silently nodded once again.
"I don't care about that photo being around" I clarified right away, "Almost the entire school had seen me shirtless in the Performances."
She nodded understandingly. "I wasn´t thinking about it twice when I sent it. I couldn´t sleep, I was tired and I was stupid."
I wordlessly got a step closer and hugged her gently. I could tell that she really felt bad for all that, and I didn´t want her to feel bad anymore. She probably has been suffering long enough.
"I never saw your perspective of all this" I told her after a deep sigh, "…I was so blinded by my stupid feelings this whole time. I still thought I had chances with her."
As much as it hurt me to say this to her, and how much this might hurt her as well, I wanted her to know the truth.
Her breathing became a little heavier as well now.
"…every time we kissed on the stage" she said, while a single tear slowly ran down her face, "It always felt like you meant it as well…"
"I´m…I´m sorry" I sighed while shaking my head very slightly, "I´m sorry it took me so long to realize…"
She nodded slowly. "You can´t force feelings for anybody…" she said with a sad little sigh, "…but you surely knew how to make it look realistic."
I just realized how much that really must hurt her hearing it from me personally.
"God, I feel like the biggest idiot in the world right now. I was such an asshole to her!"
"I´m…" I sighed, "I´m not in love with her anymore. I haven't seen her in quite a while actually. She rejected me before the premiere already…"
"What, really?" she asked, really being a little surprised about this.
I nodded slightly.
"Is it because we had sex after that Halloween-party?" she asked in fear.
I just shrugged my shoulders about that. I wasn´t quite sure if it really was just because of that. Haru always had doubts about this relationship.
"But she did find out about that, right?"
I nodded slowly.
"I´m…I´m sorry it all ended up like that" she told me once more.
"Yeah, me too…but I´m glad we talked about it."
"Yeah."
She nodded in agreement. Then followed a long and quite awkward pause.
Although she was only dressed in some short pants and a regular white t-shirt right now, she still looked as pretty as ever. Just that normally quite upbeat and positive smile was missing right now. I wanted her to be happy again. Although she had messed a few things up for me, I didn´t want to stay mad at her any longer.
"Do you…" she suddenly asked, looking a little puzzled, "…do you smell that too?"
"What…what do you mean?" I asked, being a little confused about that sudden change of topic.
"There is a scent here that kinda reminds me of Bill…"
I took a deep sniff and tried sorting out all the different smells here. It was quite dominated by all the flowers around us of course, but then, coming from the shed, there was a tiny bit of scent that could come from a tiger. She was right, it reminded me of the drama-club a little bit.
Following the smell, I went towards the shed a few steps and it became a little stronger. It wasn´t fresh, probably from yesterday or even earlier, but I was pretty sure she was right. That scent was quite familiar.
"You could be right" I told her, "It does remind of Bill a little."
"What would he be doing here?" she asked, "Is he here regularly?"
"No…I never met him here…" I said, while a thousand other thoughts already shot through my mind.
"What are you thinking?" the red-furred grey wolf asked lowly.
"There is a bed in that shed" I told her, "…and Haru is the only member of the gardening-club…"
"What, really?" she asked in shock, apparently now thinking the same thing, "You think he?"
"…he knew I had something with her" I told her lowly, really being disgusted just thinking about that, "…and now I stole the lead-role from him…"
She nodded understandingly. "You think this is revenge?"
I nodded with a shrug of my shoulders. "Would make sense, wouldn´t it?" I sighed.
Although I thought I was completely done with Haru at this point, somehow this really got to me right now. Maybe it was just a reflex because her smell was in my nose right now, maybe it was just my pride. Whatever it was in the end, I didn´t like it. That tiger really began annoying me in the meanwhile.
"What an idiot" Juno chuckled in amusement, and that surprised me a little as well.
I never thought Juno could be so malicious about something, but it suited her kinda well right now. And I believed she had a right to think like that right now.
"He has a girlfriend!" she then laughed out, "He betrayed her just to take revenge on you!"
She was right. I hadn´t even thought about that yet, although we just had talked about her.
This was so ridiculous I couldn´t even comment anything on that right now. I just nodded in slight disbelief.
The fact that Bill would actually do something like that was very absurd already, but there was one thing that hit me even harder:
"My god, I really was stupid enough to think she meant it! She really does it with anybody who comes here! She doesn´t love anybody, she´s just hunting for new hearts to break. I was just one of many to her, although I saved her life!"
I could almost feel how badly Juno wanted to say: "So much for your great love you saved yourself for. All that acting and holding back for nothing. You rather wanted to be with that slut instead of me!" right now, but she didn´t lose a single word about that.
I really felt like an idiot right now, there was just no point in denying it. But now that all that got revealed, I somehow felt even more drawn to her.
"We gotta tell Samantha about this!" she said now, "He can´t get away just like that!"
I nodded carefully. I couldn´t deny it, I wanted him to suffer for that too, but there must be a better way of letting her know than just telling her. I liked how we both were thinking about that right now though.
"Shouldn´t we wait for a more fitting moment for that?" I asked with a little smirk.
"You´re right" she agreed, "I want to see her taking him apart when she finds out."
"Yeah."
We really were thinking the same thing.
"I think I have an idea already" she told me excitedly. "I´m gonna arrange something…maybe we can tell her to come pick him up after the rehearsals or something like that…"
I nodded, followed by a little shrug of my shoulders. I wasn´t quite sure how solid that plan was, but I didn´t want to ask for further details right now either. I was pretty sure she would tell me about the details soon enough.
Now it was just another moment silence between us once again.
"Alright…" Juno said lowly, making her way back towards the door slowly. Since I was done here as well, I followed her right away.
Side by side we walked towards the exit together, until we stopped for another moment just as we reached the door.
"Thanks for the talk" she said lowly, "I think it was really helpful to the both of us."
"It was" I agreed.
With that she grabbed the handle of the door and actually wanted to leave me just like that.
"So…" I said, making her stop in her tracks for another moment, "…do you maybe want to…you know…c-can…can I make it up to you for all that somehow? I mean…we could get something to eat or…"
To my surprise, she immediately started shaking her head. "I´m sorry, Legoshi…" she told me quite plainly, "…but I don't think that will work out. Why would you have feelings for me now if you didn´t have them before?"
That really left me a little dumbfounded right now. I had expected a lot of things to happen, but not that she would reject me as well now.
"Did I really look that desperate right now? Wasn´t it always her who wanted me to be her boyfriend? Did I really mess this up so badly? Did she hate me now?"
All those forwards and backwards developments every day were getting really annoying in the meanwhile.
"Why couldn´t anything workout for me just for once? Am I really that bad of a person?"
"I…I…" I said, probably quite noticeably a little disappointed, but not knowing a good answer to that question either, "I…"
"I think it would be best if we went our separate ways for now" she told me, not stuttering with a single word she said, "Romeo and Juliet is over, maybe it´s better that way."
"Wow. Okay, maybe it really was that bad."
"Yeah…" I sighed.
"Thanks for being honest with me, Legoshi…" she told me with a little smile while opening the door slowly, "See you in the rehearsals."
"Yeah…" I sighed lowly, waving her shortly, "See you later."
And with that she closed the door behind her and left me standing here in the garden.
Just like that I was all alone once again. A feeling I hadn´t had in quite a while I just noticed. But I surely hadn´t missed it. And now, on top of that, I really began feeling those scratches on my face for the first time since I got them. And I still had Bill´s scent in my nose. Right now, I felt just as miserable as it felt when Haru broke up with me.
"Just what is wrong with my life? Can´t something nice finally happen to me for once?"
POV Jack
She was here for over an hour in the meanwhile, and to me it could have stayed like that the whole day. I really enjoyed her company. She was a year younger than me but just one semester behind Legoshi and I, and since she struggled with some of the physics tasks a little, like a lot of students did because of that teacher, I decided to help her out a little on that matter.
She really felt comfortable in our dorm as it seemed, and she really was fun to be around as well. Legoshi still hasn´t come back from his talk with Juno, but I was pretty sure everything was alright. Maybe they were otherwise engaged in the meanwhile.
"I hope I don't waste your time with this" she told me at some point, because I just had taken a quick look at my phone.
"No, no! Really, this is fine!" I assured while immediately putting it away again.
"You sure?" she chuckled.
"I would probably bore myself to death if you weren´t here" I waved it off with a little smile, "And I really enjoy your company! You´re nice to me…"
That compliment made her smile happily.
"You know…" she said, "You´re the first guy who sees more than just a red vixen when he talks to me…and I really enjoy that!"
"You´re about the most beautiful girl I´ve ever seen" I told her with a little wink and an ironic grin, "Sorry I didn´t mention it earlier!"
"You dork…" she laughed out, punching my shoulder lightly, "I liked you, but now you´ve ruined everything!"
"Oh…" I told her with a faked sad expression, "But I thought a pretty girl likes a compliment…"
"Stop it already!" she grinned, pushing and tickling me a little more.
"I´m sorry" I told her, laughing in surprise, "I…I won´t ever mention it again! Can…could you forgive me?"
"Nah…I don't know…" she said, really trying but still totally failing to keep a serious expression, "…maybe."
"I´ll take that as a yes" I grinned.
I really liked where this was going already. I wasn´t quite sure where all that self-confidence of mine was coming from all over sudden, but it just worked out for me right now.
We understood each other so well. I could just be myself when talking to her, and that really was a rare feeling for me.
After a little pause, she suddenly began shaking her head a little once again, "…I still can´t believe he thought I slept with him!"
"Who? …Sebastian?" I asked, being a little confused about her sudden change of topic.
"Yes, of course…alone that he thought I would cheat on him…" she explained.
"Oh…" I said noddingly, understanding what she meant now, "…yeah, okay…now I get it."
"What where you thinking right now?" she asked with an amused chuckle, "That I wouldn´t sleep with Legoshi because he´s a wolf?"
I shrugged my shoulders and then carefully nodded a little. I couldn´t deny that that was what I was thinking at first. She really brought me into a tough situation with that question.
"…a lot of girls would go out with him right now" I explained myself lowly, "I´m sorry for thinking like that."
"Don't worry" she waved it off in amusement, "I can´t really blame you, can I?" she asked with a mischievous smile.
"No, really! I shouldn't have put that label on you in the first place!"
"What label would that be?" she asked with a big grin.
"Shit, why would I say that! What a stupid thing to say, Jack!"
There was no good answer to that either. I just managed to get myself into an even worse situation with that.
But she already knew I was in a dead-end here, and she seemed to really enjoy seing me struggling.
"Aww" she giggled, still with that happy attitude, "You´re really cute like that!"
She patted my head while saying it, and I was just left with taking it like that. Not that I minded her touching me anyway. I was already in love with this girl.
"You should see them running after him" I told her with a relieved little smile, "The most beautiful girls of the school, all talking about him…whoever I give extra physics-lessons too…"
Hearing that made her giggle even more, and it was just contagious. I was so happy right now. We had so much fun together.
She was just the type of girl I´ve ever wanted to meet in my life. I could sit here and just talk with her the whole day.
"You´re really good at explaining all that optics-stuff by the way" she told me now, "I never understand anything in the class."
"Yeah, that guy shouldn´t have become a teacher" I agreed with her, "No wonder his classes really struggle with his tasks."
"Glad I got to meet you today" she told me with a little wink, "You really helped me out and you´re really nice to me."
"Did I get that right? Was she really flirting with me? Did she see me as more than just a teacher too? Jack, don't mess this up now, that´s the first time that has ever happened to you!"
"That´s how I get my money" I explained with an ironic little grin, "First I pretend to be your friend, then I´m sneak around the corner with a bill for the extra physics-lesson…"
"I see" she laughed, "So I fell right for your trap, is that what you want to say?"
"No, I´m kidding…" I waved it off with a happy grin, and in that moment I realized that I wouldn't get a better chance than that, "…but I wasn´t lying earlier: You´re smart, you´re funny and you´re also really beautiful…"
Just while I said that, I already noticed her smile was getting a little wider once again. Now I was sure I was doing the right thing.
"…and…you know…I´d love to take you out to a nice dinner whenever it fits your schedule."
POV Haru
I had just begun picking weeds out of a flower-bet, when I heard somebody coming through the door and towards me. He seemed to know his way around here, and when his steps came closer and I took a look, I immediately interrupted my work went towards him as well.
"Louie!" I greeted, before hugging him tightly, "Where have you been all this time?"
He didn´t wear his school uniform or in fact anything I had ever seen on him before. Over-all looked a little more mature now.
"Haru" he greeted me lowly, "So nice to see you."
First of all, I just felt like hugging instead of asking him a million questions. I was so glad I finally got to see him again, to have a sign of him being alive.
But some details I just had to know.
"Where have you been all this time?"
"I´m afraid I can´t tell you that exactly" he said, "But I intent to stay at least until I graduated."
"You want to move out of the city?" I asked, releasing him from the hug in the meanwhile.
"Most likely, yes."
I wasn´t really surprised about that answer. I knew about his ambitions since quite a while. He always dreamt of something bigger, something more important than becoming the Beastar or having a lead role in the drama-club.
I had hoped he had gotten a little less self-conscious with time, but it still was nice seeing him.
"Come on, let´s get in the shed, it´s a little cooler here" I said, as I waved him to follow me. I wanted to take a break from my work anyway, since the sun today really was powerful once again.
I threw myself onto the bed after tossing away my shoes carefully and he took a seat on the matrass besides me. Just like in old times.
"What about the drama-club?" I asked just out of interest, and probably also because I couldn´t think of anything else to talk about, "Do you think they´ll let you join again after all this time?"
He nodded. "I was already talking to Sanu this morning. I was a little too late to get a role, but I can help him as a co-director. But I will be on stage again in the near future."
He did sound a little sore about that actually, but I didn´t want to mention it right now. So I nodded understandingly. Normally, all that wouldn´t really have bothered me, but since everything that had happened, I found that topic quite interesting right now.
"You´re going to have quite a lot of concurrence now" I chuckled.
"Finally" he said with a nod, "I always knew that wolf was hiding something."
"He has been hiding" I agreed, "But now he´s the biggest star at this school all over sudden."
He nodded with a shrug of his shoulders. It didn't seem to bother him that much.
"What is your relationship with him right now?" he wanted to know, looking a little suspicious somehow.
"I broke up with him a while ago…" I told him the truth, since I saw no point in hiding it, "He also had feelings for that wolf-girl form the drama club apparently…and I didn´t want to stand in between them."
He nodded understandingly.
"Why do you ask?" I wanted to know.
He lifted one of his hands now and showed me something very thin he held just between two fingers.
"There is orange fur in your bed. That cannot be Legoshi´s…" he explained while raising an eyebrow.
"Oh, so you´re a detective now?" I asked with a little chuckle.
"I´m just curious" he waved it off, shaking the string of fur out of his hand, "I haven´t been here in quite a while, and there have been some interesting developments…"
I nodded once again, still looking at him with an amused little smile.
I wasn´t really in the mood to talk about any more of that right now though. I just wanted it to be like it always has been. I missed those days.
To distract him, I put a hand on one of his knees and looked him right in the eyes with a mischievous little smirk. "It´s nothing important, really…" I explained, as I waved it off with my other hand, "Just another guy who helped me in the garden."
POV Legoshi (later that evening)
"I shouldn't have told her about that. Was it even true that I didn´t have any feelings for her when we performed on stage? Was I lying to myself there? Why did I fuck everything up all the time?"
Now I was alone once again. The whole school looked up to me and I felt like the biggest failure who ever lived. Not even the others coming back from their weekends one by one really lifted my mood.
"What´s with the long face, Legoshi?" Collot asked with an amused chuckle, after pulling his luggage towards his bed and resting himself on his matrass for a moment.
"I´m a wolf" I told him lowly, "I have a long face."
He chuckled a little and I hoped I was done with that talk with that, but I should have known that that was by far not enough to stop him.
"Where is Jack by the way?" he wanted to know, before I could even look at the script in my hands once again.
That topic was the only thing that cheered me up a little though. I was happy for Jack.
"Having dinner with Anita" I told Collot with a proud little smirk.
"Who´s Anita?" he asked.
"A really nice red vixen he met today. He gave her some physics lessons and they have spent the entire afternoon together."
"What, really?" he asked excitedly, and I even noticed how his tail began wagging a little
I nodded with a little smirk.
"Good for him! It´s about time he gets a nice girl as well!" he said, before continued unpacking his suitcase and stuffing his fresh clothing into his drawer.
"What about you?"
"What about me…?"
He took another, closer look at me again.
"What happened to your face?" he asked I surprise, "Got into a fight once again?"
"A red fox accused me of sleeping with his girlfriend this morning…"
"What, with Juno?" he asked in confusion.
"Anita" I said while shaking my head a little.
"You slept with this girl and now Jack is dating her?"
"No" I sighed, shaking my head, "I didn´t sleep with anybody. The fox guy made that up to make me look like an asshole in front of the whole school. Didn't end well for him. That´s also the reason why his girlfriend left him today."
"Wow" he chuckled, shaking his head in disbelief.
"Jack is the better deal anyway, trust me" I told him with a little smile.
"There is no greater gentleman than Jack really" he agreed in amusement.
I nodded.
"Quite an eventful weekend, wasn´t it?"
"Ha. If you only knew what was going on this weekend! …but I´m not gonna tell you, because you´ll tell the rest of the dorm when they arrive and then they´ll be talking about this all evening. And I´m sick of everybody talking about me!"
I didn´t say that out loud of course, and I was really glad that Collot couldn´t read my thoughts right now.
I nodded with a little smirk, before putting my nose into the script once again, "Yeah…a few things happened."
Just a few things happened...nothing special, really ^^
