Mid-November
Sonny walks into the living room to find Lisa curled up on the sofa with her laptop. "Workin already?" He asks before kissing her on the top of the head.
"You know, I can be on my laptop without working." Lisa looks up at him. "And good morning to you too."
"I see sassy Davis woke up this mornin." Sonny calls from the kitchen.
"First off, I'm always sassy, it's one of the many reasons you love me. Second, I am actually planning Thanksgiving." Lisa tells him.
"Do we really need to plan it?" Sonny asks walking back into the living room with a cup of coffee. "Can't everyone just bring somethin and we eat and get drunk."
"Well, yes, but this is the first time we have been home for Thanksgiving in a couple of years." Lisa takes a sip of her coffee. "I want this to be special."
"That's real nice of ya Lisa."
"The last holiday we hosted was Christmas our first year in the house." Lisa turns her focus from her laptop to Sonny. "That girly side of me that comes out every now and again wants to host this big, beautiful Thanksgiving dinner."
Sonny scoots closer to her and drapes his arm over Lisa's shoulders. "In that case, what ya got planned there baby?"
"Well, I clearly want fall decorations all over the house and a really nice table scape." Lisa pulls up a picture on her laptop. "Like this."
"That looks nice." Sonny says trying his best to sound interested. "We gonna have enough room for food with all of that on the table?"
"Yes Sonny." Lisa chuckles. "Is the food really all you care about?"
"Is that a serious question?" Sonny laughs. "Any other plans."
"Well, clearly the firepit. I have some new pillows and blankets for the Adirondack chairs. I want to make some special cocktails." Lisa keeps scrolling. "I just want it to be a nice night."
"I'm sure it will be." Sonny kisses her on the temple. "Should we break out the karaoke machine?"
"Oh, I completely forgot we had that." Lisa laughs.
"What? You forgot that we have something to embarrass all of our friends?" Sonny shakes his head. "I thought you were smarter than that."
"Harsh Sonny."
"I still love ya very, very much." Sonny chuckles and leans forward to kiss Lisa.
"Mmhm. I can sleep better tonight knowing that you still love me oh so much." Lisa giggles.
"Now see, ya really are gonna sleep much better after I have my way with ya." Sonny reaches forward and takes her computer off her lap and sets it on the coffee table.
"Are you forgetting that it is this morning not tonight?" Lisa turns towards him.
"Not at all my love." Sonny moves towards her, pushing her onto her back.
"I'm loving this not having to be into work early this morning thing." Lisa wraps her arms around his neck.
"Ya and me both baby." Sonny mumbles against her lips.
Thanksgiving
"This place looks damn good Lisa." Sonny says walking in from the back yard where he had been cooking the turkeys.
"Thanks babe." Lisa walks over to him and kisses him. "And you smell like meat."
"See, normally ya don't complain about that." Sonny chuckles. "Is that your way of tellin me to go change?"
"You know it." Lisa says patting him on the chest.
Lisa turns to walk away and Sonny slaps her on the butt. "Them leather pants lookin real good on ya."
"Why thank you Quinn." Lisa smirks. "Now go change."
"Yes Ma'am." Sonny mumbles as he walks heads towards their bedroom.
Lisa hears the doorbell ring and heads towards the front door. "Mandy." Lisa says when she opens the door.
"I thought you would be happy to see me." Mandy says taking in Lisa's surprised demeanor. "I mean, it's been like six months."
Lisa reaches out to hug her. "I am happy to see you, I'm just a little shocked you showed up."
"Thats fair." Mandy chuckles as they separate, and she walks inside. "Love what you have done with the place."
"Thanks Lisa." Smiles as she closes the door. "How have you been?"
"Good." Mandy says leaning against the kitchen counter. "How's life with DEVGRU?"
"Same old, same old." Lisa shrugs. "Still working crazy hours and still sending the guys I consider family into the line of fire."
"I wasn't even close with them like you are, and I don't miss that one bit." Mandy pauses. "Miss what time I did spend with the guys, but I don't miss them potentially dying on a mission I sent them on."
"Oh Davis." Lisa hears Jason call after she hears the front door open.
Mandy fidgets. "The person I am most nervous to see."
"It will all be okay." Lisa reassures her before Jason and Mikey walk into the room.
Jason stops dead in his tracks when he sees Mandy. "Hello Ms. Ellis." He tries to play it off.
"Hi Jason." She says trying her best to keep her voice from cracking. "How have you been?"
"Good." Jason nods. "Just enjoying retirement."
"That's good." Mandy smiles.
"What have you been up to?" Jason asks.
"Just doing what secret agents do." Mandy smirks. Why did talking to him have to be so effortless, she wonders.
"As a secret agent does." Jason returns.
The tension is broken by Metal walking into the kitchen. "Well, this is awkward." He looks between Mandy and Jason and then at Lisa.
"Way to hold back Metal." Lisa scolds.
Sonny walks into the room and looks around. "What in the hell is goin on in here?"
Mandy turns and looks at Sonny. "Metal was just calling Jason and I out on our bullshit."
"He is he man of only necessary words." Sonny chuckles.
"That's the truth." Jason laughs. "Who else needs a drink?"
"I think all of us do." Sonny says. "And y'all are in luck cause we have plenty of alcohol, don't we Davis."
"We do." Lisa nods and turns to the bar. "Of course there is beer and makers, but if you guys want something a little different, I have that too." She points at the first pitcher. "Apple cider margaritas. Then cranberry bourbon sour punch. And lastly cinnamon maple whisky sour."
"Wow Lisa." Mandy smiles. "For once I don't feel like the black sheep for not drinking beer."
"That's what I'm here for." Lisa jokes.
"This place looks amazing." Naima comments as her, Ray and the kids walk into the house.
"Thank you." Lisa reaches out to hug her.
"And it smells amazing." Ray adds.
"I'll take credit for that, considerin how much Davis here hates cookin." Sonny chuckles. He sees her giving him a side glance. "Don't look at me like that Davis."
"Uh oh." Ray laughs looking between the two. "Trouble in paradise?"
Sonny walks over to Lisa and wraps his arms around her from behind. "Never. All y'all wish you were as perfect as us."
"Because we're amazing." Lisa says turning her head to kiss Sonny.
"Gross." Jason fake gags.
"Speaking of gross, where are the two love birds?" Ray asks noting that Clay and Emma where to be found.
"Emma's flight should have just landed." Jason tells him. "She's been working really hard on an off-Broadway production lately."
"Oh, that's awesome." Naima comments.
"You must be one proud Dad." Tent says to Jason as he and brock walk into the living room.
"I am, you asshole." Jason retorts. "And I'm equally as happy that she is continuing to follow her dreams.
"Relax Jace." Brock shakes his head. "You know we are just busting your balls."
"Don't think that just because I retired, I can't kick your ass." Jason laughs as he pushes Brock.
"Watch those hands old man." Brock fake lunges at Jason.
"Someone's gotten braver since I left." Jason chuckles.
"Maybe I feel more impowered under new leadership." Brock counters.
"That's a little hurtful." Jason tells him.
"Play nice boys." Lisa says looking around the group. "How about everyone gets a drink and relax."
"These look interesting." Brock says walking over to the cocktail pitchers.
"I mean, I think they are good." Lisa tells him as she takes a sip of her drink.
"What have been up to Mandy?" Naima asks as her, Lisa, Mandy and Emma stand around the kitchen island.
"Just been crazy busy with work." Mandy tells her.
"You don't miss this place at all?" Naima pushes, she didn't know the details of Mandy and Jason's breakup, but what she did know, Jason's heart was broken.
"Is there really that much to miss in Virgina Beach?" Mandy chuckles. "But I do miss the people."
"We miss you being around." Emma looks out to the backyard where Jason and the rest of the guys were hanging out. "Even the ones who don't know how to tell you that."
Mandy offers a small smile. "Right person, wrong time."
"If it's meant to be, then it will be." Naima tries to assure her.
"If I'm being honest." Mandy shrugs. "I'm done talking about me and Jason. We want different lives right now."
"Well, my new play premieres the second week in January. I expect as much attendance as possible." Emma says hoping to shift the conversation to her.
"Oh, I can't wait to see it." Naima says.
"Yeah, you know we will be there if we can, but I'm sure if we miss it, Jace will fill us in." Lisa smiles.
"That's for sure." Emma nods. "It's like he is making up for all of the missed plays and soccer games."
"He always wanted that." Naima tells her. "He just didn't know how to stop being an operator and start being a Dad."
"I believe that." Emma agrees. "I'm just happy he is adjusting to retirement."
Their conversation was interrupted by Sonny busting through the door with the smoked turkey in hand. "Hope y'all are hungry."
"Oh, that smells amazing." Emma tells Sonny as she makes room on the counter for the turkeys.
Sonny sets the bird down. "Bet ya can't get food like this in dumb old New York."
"Good barbecue is hard to find up there." Emma agrees.
Clay sits the fried turkey down next to the other one. "And I'm not there." He jokes.
"Shut up Clay." Emma giggles.
"Alright everybody." Sonny says. "How bout everyone grab a plate and let's dig in."
After dinner and dessert, Naima joined the rest of the group at the fire pit. "Sonny, I just want you to know the kids think you have the best video game set up ever."
"That's what I'm here for." Sonny chuckles.
"Hey everybody." Blackburn says as he walks out to the circle. "Sorry I'm late."
"No worries, Eric." Lisa smiles. "Just happy you could join us. I don't know if you're hungry, but there is plenty of food left over."
"Oh no, I'm good." Eric says grabbing a beer out of the cooler before sitting down. "This place looks great, Lisa."
"Thank you." She smiles. "I just figured since we have missed a lot of holidays the last few years it would be nice to have a big Thanksgiving."
"That's nice of you." Eric nods.
Jason looks around the group. "When was the last time we were all drinking around a fire pit?"
"It's been a long time." Trent notes.
"It really has been." Clay agrees. "Then you know, Jace and Metal went and retired."
"And left a place for you to be team leader." Jason points out.
"Details." Clay chuckles.
Lisa snuggles in a little tighter to Sonny while she watches everyone interact. "Thank you for helping me pull this off."
"You're very welcome my love." Sonny kisses the top of her head. "It's been a fun evenin."
