A/N: This chapter is set a while after Sonny and Lisa's wedding. In this story Sonny never got in trouble and set to Texas. Let me know what you think!
Sonny was sitting in Lisa's office eating lunch with her when his phone starts ringing. He looks down at it and sees it an unknown number. Sonny studies it for a second and realizes it is a Texas number calling. "Aren't you going to answer it?" Lisa asks.
"Nothin good can come from a call from Texas." Sonny says looking up from his phone.
"What if it was important?" Lisa pushes. "At least listen to the voicemail Sonny."
"Why do ya care so much?" Sonny asks.
"You know how I just get gut feelings about things." Lisa watches him nod. "I'm getting that feeling about this phone call. I mean when was the last time you talked to anyone in Texas, if you're getting a call from there, it's more than likely someone you need to talk to."
"Okay, little miss know-it-all." Sonny unlocks his phone to play the voicemail.
"Hey Sonny, long time no talk." Before she even says her name, Sonny knows who it is. "Um, just in case ya don't remember my voice, it's Hannah. I wish this was a social call, but, uh. Your Dad isn't doin so hot. I really don't want to explain this on a voicemail, can you please call me."
"Holy shit." Sonny says resting his elbows on his knees and leaning forward.
"Wait, Hannah... Like your childhood friend who you haven't talked to since you enlisted?" Lisa asks, shocked.
"Uh yeah." Sonny leans back in his chair. "And what in the hell does my Dad ain't doin so hot even mean."
Lisa stands and walks around her desk to stand behind Sonny. She wraps her arms around his neck. "There's only one way to find out honey."
"But I don't want to." Sonny groans.
Lisa gives him a kiss on the cheek before sitting down in the chair next to him. "I know Sonny, but you have to, and I'll be right here next to you the whole time."
Sonny lets out a long breath. "Alright, I guess it's just better if I get it over with."
"It is." Lisa scoots her chair closer to Sonny and grabs his left hand. "Don't tell me the big bad Teir One SEAL is afraid to make a phone call."
"No." Sonny huffs. "Here goes nothin." Sonny hits redial on his phone and waits for Hannah to answer.
"Sonny?" Hannah asks when she answers the phone. "Sonny are you there?" She asks when he doesn't answer her.
"Uh, yeah, I'm here." Sonny answers. "It's just weird to hear your voice after all of these years."
"I know Sonny." Hannah pauses. "Listen, this isn't how I wanted to talk to you again, but here we are."
"Yeah." Sonny mumbles. "What's goin on with my Dad?"
"He has cancer." Hannah sighs. "And the chemo is really taking it out of him."
"Is he gonna die?" Sonny asked.
"Um. From what he will tell me, the cancer is responding to the chemo. But you know how stubborn he is." Hannah tells him.
"Listen Hannah, we haven't talked since I enlisted, but neither have Emmit and I." Sonny says.
"I figured as much." Hannah responds. "Sonny, he has been alone on that ranch since you left. He needs help, but more help than I can offer."
"Hannah, I don't know what ya want me to do." Sonny huffs. "I have a job and a life. I can't just up and leave, the Navy has rules against that."
"So, you're just going to let him suffer all alone?" Hannah pushes.
"I don't know what to tell you." Sonny grumbles.
Lisa reaches over and mutes Sonny's phone. "Sonny stop being an asshole."
"Lisa, I don't wanna see him."
"Fine. Just tell Hannah you will think about it and hang up." Lisa says looking him in the eyes. "I get the feeling she isn't one to back down."
"Damnit." Sonny unmutes his phone. "Look Hannah, I'll think about, talk to my wife and to my command."
"Your wife Sonny Quinn?"
"Uh, yeah." Sonny chuckles.
"Well, think about it. He really needs help and don't you think it's time that you two settle the past and move forward." Hannah tells him. "Bye Sonny."
"Bey Hannah." Sonny hangs up the phone. "Please don't lecture me."
Lisa leans over and kisses him on the cheek. "I'm not going to lecture you; I am just going to tell you that you should go see him. If he is bad off enough for Hannah to call you, then you should put a lot of thought into going down there."
"I left that little town and never looked back." Sonny turns to face her. "And I never intended to go back there."
"Sonny you know no one understands that better than me. But maybe Hannah is right, maybe it is time to bury the hatchet."
"What if nothin has changed and he's the same hateful POS he was all those years ago." Sonny says looking at the ground.
Lisa runs her fingers through his beard, gently pulling his face back up to hers. "Then you know that he hasn't changed and never will. I know you Sonny. I know that under that tough exterior you have a heart of gold."
"If I'm goin you're goin." Sonny strokes her upper thigh. "I can't do this alone baby."
"I have to talk to command, but I will do everything I can do to go with you." Lisa leans forward and kisses him.
"Why won't ya just let me pretend like he is already dead." Sonny chuckles.
"Because I don't want you to regret this in the future. As many issues as you two had when you were growing up." Lisa pauses. "That doesn't mean that he couldn't have changed."
"What if you're Mom showed up, would you want me to say the same to you?" Sonny asks.
"That's different and you know it." Lisa frowns. "Emmit was a shitty single father, but my Mom was on a whole new level."
Sonny sees how much that comment hurt her. "You're right baby. I'm sorry I brought that up, I know it's different."
"Hey." Lisa smiles. "You got this."
"Thanks baby." Sonny smiles.
