A/N: This is the first New Years after Sonny's injury. Hope you enjoy!

2000 New Year's Eve

Sonny woke up from the nap he had been taking. He pulls on jeans and a T-shirt and makes his way downstairs. He is greeted by New Year's decorations. "Lisa." He calls.

He finds her in the kitchen. "Hi sleepy head." She makes her way over to him and gives him a quick kiss. "How was your nap?"

"Uh, it was good." He turns and looks around the family room. "What is all of this?"

She moves her hands to his hips. "Even though you refuse to say it, I know you're upset about Bravo spinning up for the first time since you got hurt."

"It ain't no big deal, Lisa." Sonny says brushing some stray hair out of her face.

"You're a bad liar Quinn."

"Davis, baby, seriously, ya ain't gotta do nothin."

"Too bad, it's too late." Lisa grins. "There is a fire in the firepit. Cold beers in the cooler out there. And a couple of steaks if you feel up to grilling them."

Sonny looks down at her. "Have I ever told ya how great ya are?

"Yes." Lisa smiles. "But you can tell me as many times as you would like."

"Good. Cause you're amazin." He says before kissing her.

"Now onto more pressing matters, you grilling dinner." Lisa smirks.

"I guess since ya did all this, that's the least I can do." Sonny chuckles at the eye roll his answer earned. "I would love to grill some steaks for us. Is that better."

"Much." She pulls out of his arms. "Do you want a beer?"

"Of course I do." Sonny follows her towards the fridge.

"Your beer." She hands him a beer. "And the steaks."

"Ya got them marinaded?" Sonny notes.

"Don't sound so surprised." Lisa throws a dish rag at him. "I have learned a few things from you over the years."

"I'll make my final judgement when I taste them." He winks at her.

"Whatever Quinn." Lisa giggles.

"Ima go get the grill fired up."

"Already done." Lisa says before he can walk away.

"Were ya gonna cook'em too?" He asks.

"I was actually." Lisa nods. "The plan was to have everything ready to go then wake you up."

"Thank ya baby." Sonny reaches across the kitchen island and strokes he hand. "This is all really thoughtful of ya."

"I just wanted to do something nice for you, for us." She smiles.

"This nice." Sonny grabs the container with the steaks in it. "Let's get these babies cooked."

"Mmhm. Please do." Lisa says in agreement.

"This table looks awesome Lisa." Sonny notes as he sits the plates containing their dinner on the table.

"Thank you." Lisa smiles. "I didn't mean to get all of this, but, um here we are."

Sonny cuts into his steak and takes a bite. "Damn Davis."

"Is that a good Damn Davis or a what the hell did you put in that marinade Damn Davis?"

"It's a good one baby." Sonny chuckles at her expression. "I hope ya remember that recipe, cause we're usin it again."

"Oh, it's that good?" Lisa smiles.

"Yes Ma'am." Sonny extends his hand out and strokes her thigh. "I like this. Just the two of us, good food, alcohol and a fire."

"Do you think it's funny that we spent all that time hating having to have nights like this, but now here we are seeking out those nights." Lisa asks.

"That's a good point." Sonny points his fork at her. "I guess I would have to say that I like havin the choice."

"It was a huge weight off our shoulders." Lisa says remembering how much better she felt after the team found out about her and Sonny.

"That mornin was a mess." Sonny shakes his head. "I thought for sure I had lost ya just after gettin ya back."

Lisa looks down at her lap. "I would love to tell you that didn't cross my mind."

"Hey, that would have been the easy way." Sonny rubs her shoulder. "But let's face it, neither one of us like it easy."

Lisa laughs and shakes her head. "We do choose the hardest path, didn't we."

"But look how great it turned out." Sonny smiles.

"This has worked out incredibly well for us." Lisa agrees.

"What does Miss Davis have planned the rest of the evenin?" Sonny inquires.

"Ah." Lisa smiles. "You and me cuddled up on our comfy outdoor sofa with some more drinks and the projector."

"Watchin?" Sonny asks.

"The New Year's Eve thing that's always on, maybe." Lisa shrugs.

"Are we gettin old and bornin?" Sonny chuckles.

"You're recovering from being paralyzed and our friends are out of the country on a mission." Lisa counters. "If we were already asleep, then I might agree with you."

"Ya got me there Davis." Sonny takes the last bite of his dinner. "That was a good meal, if I do say so myself."

Lisa takes a sip of her beer. "It was. Should we move this to the sofa?"

Sonny stands and extends his to her. "My love." She stands taking his hand, he pulls her against him. "Thank ya again for tonight."

She wraps her arms around his neck. "You're welcome."

"Wake up beautiful." Sonny kisses her temple. "It's almost midnight."

"Mmm. Did I really fall asleep?" Lisa mumbles.

"Ya did." Sonny runs her fingers through her hair. "But it's five till and I got the champagne ready."

Lisa looks up at him. "Remember when you asked if were getting old, I may need to change my answer."

"I'll cut ya a break this one time since ya were up all night in the ops center and didn't sleep long when ya got home." Sonny leans forward and picks up the two champagne flutes.

She takes the glass from him. "Thank you. What are we toasting to this year?"

"Rememberin what matters the most." Sonny raises his glass.

Lisa raises her glass to meet his. "To health and safety."

"Cheers baby." Sonny says before they take a sip of the champagne. "Less than a minute."

Lisa turns her attention to the projector screen. "Another year we got to spend together."

"This mean so much more this year." Sonny smiles.

"Here we go... 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Happy New Year." Lisa smiles before Sonny captures her lips.

"Happy New Year indeed." He chuckles.
